Thank you, Ceri, for these fantastic tutorials. I made my first master board this afternoon. I'm a beginner crafter so don't have a big collection of papers, but I went to the local thrift shop and picked up a variety of books. I also discovered that I could use the old, fancy paper bags I've been saving for years. They were a terrific addition to my plain colored cut-out pages. I can't wait to cut up my board and start creating tags, pockets, and art journal pieces. Bottom line, I just want to express my gratitude for your willingness to share your knowledge to both seasoned crafters and us newbies.
I like the main message of "do whatever you want." There is a lot that I don't do because of my personal needs and preference. BUT what I still do not understand are tags!! The big tags. Are they meant to be turned into "to, from" at some point? The big ones that have ribbons and embellishments seem to be for pure enjoyment because I do not see how to write on them (by others especially). The rest I get their uses, I think. Thanks for all you do, Ceri.
Denise a tag as you rightly say could be a “to/from” item but the journalling world uses them as another place to create writing space for journalling. The front is decorative the back is meant to be a journal entry although some tags are so decorated I feel it would be difficult to write in the reverse side. Hope that helps.
Thanks for your video even while you aren't feeling well.. Praying you will feel better soon, and can continue to make your amazing videos.. Have a wonderful weekend.
How thrilling to watch another masterboard video this morning. Also, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who measures the way you do. Example: 2 notches before the 6, 3 notches after the 8. 😁
This is beautiful and very inspiring. I find that I'm unable to cut mine up so I scan them to print later. Maybe I need to be firmer with myself and just cut them. Thank you from another Welshie.
Hi Ceri, I love making master boards, When I’m done, I turn it over so I am surprised. I so enjoy watching you create. Love how you added everything onto your base. Thanks so much for sharing. I hope you feel better soon, hugs and blessings 💜🤗🙏
I am an OG when it comes to Junk Journals, but I still enjoyed this video. Just like everything you create, this video was very informative and instructional. If there is one thing you may have failed to mention is many of us scan our masterboards so we can use them again and again in print form. Love your videos Ceri! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much, I do mention that sometimes but in the past some have taken that as permission to scan and sell which breaches copyrite in some circumstances.
Just found your channel and I LOVE it! I have been making junk journals for years and have just discovered masterboards. I took a break from crafting for a few years while working on my business but now I am back! I will check out your other videos. I used to make videos under the name GingersEclecticLife.
Ceri, I just recently came across your channel, and I've watched so many of your videos. So relaxing to watch after a long day. Thank you for sharing your gifts of creativity and teaching!
Another great tutorial. Thank you for, even when you are not well, taking time to explain about the master board. I discovered your channel a short time ago and I am binge watching. Best wishes from the Netherlands
Have made lots of master boards, but still learned new tricks from this video! Your MB started out gorgeous and the pieces you made are fab, too! Loved how you explained all the uses for the pieces you cut, too! Feel better! TFS. 🙏🥰
Good morning Ceri. Sorry you're not feeling tip top...hope you feel better soon. Love watching your decorating pieces. TFS Hope you have a great day. 🌞
Thank you Ceri for your wonderful videos. I have been playing catch up on your previous years of master boards and other crafts. You have given me a lot of inspiration as I start out on my journaling journey.
Thank you! Love your work. I saw a masterboard video about a year ago or so and it’s what really got me back into paper crafting and a love for collage. I’ve got a freebie tourist magazine I picked up at a store entrance this past spring and I’ve started collaging the pages in there, figuring I can take pages out and cut them up later on. It’s a great way to just relax and collage.
Thank you for answering my question about the master board so clearly and perfectly! I am anxious now to make one too! I fear I may not be able to cut into it if it turns out as beautiful as yours!!! Thanks so much for this video and clearing up the mystery, really appreciate it and am loving your channel!
I do believe you, Ceri, are the Master of Master Boards! They are always so beautifully done with a sense of perfection though you create as you go. Love every one of them and this was especially good because of all of the wonderful ideas you shared. ❤❤❤
I hope you feel better soon Ceri, snuggles with Biscuit would be very medicinal I'd think 😀 thanks for that tutorial, it was very helpful even for those of us who are not as new to this, thanks again, it was beautiful as always.
Hi Ceri! Thank you so much for this video! I’m new to journaling and your a great teacher, I’ve learned so much. Take care of yourself and feel better. Enjoy your weekend! 🌻
I borrowed this idea Ceri and have completed five MB so far, as well as a page of clusters. Interestingly I find I’m leaning towards a particular colour scheme…maybe it’s a phase 🤭. Having fun and learning lots!
Mr. Ceri, that's just beautiful. You make art easy and fun. Okay, I'm off to create a Master board! Thanks! Feel better soon! "I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life..." ~ Jesus
thank you for explaining what a masterboard is for us "newbies!" Another question: What is the difference between a journal CARD and a journal TAG? thanks :D
I would say it’s basically the shape, a journal card is normally square or rectangular, sometimes with the corners rounded or clipped whereas a journal tag normally has its top corners snipped. But in saying this there are no rules so journal cards and tags can be any size or shape.
thank you so very much for taking the time to reply & for your thoughtful explanation! I understand now. I started "journaling" a few months ago, after my son suffered a major heart attack that he thankfully survived! I found that writing my thoughts down helped me work through things, and in the process, I discovered "Junk Journals!" I've become addicted, and I'm soaking all this info up like a sponge! I don't have a lot of money to purchase supplies, so I am especially drawn to videos that use "self-made" materials & ephemera - like scraps of paper/fabric, old book pages or junk mail envelopes! To me, they are not only more affordable, but they are much more interesting and unique! I love your collages! I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to more awesome "thumbs up" videos like this one! Have a wonderful day! @@CeriGriffiths
Hi Ceri! I feel like I saw you had a video somewhere, that had a diagram of cutting the master board to get a good amount of ephemera very efficiently. Where might I find that?
Oh I’ve done that a few times, normally when I’m creating with a 12x12 background, there is no one specific video but if you look at my mass makes play list you’ll find that information in there. th-cam.com/play/PL9jo60Ix0S8IKIxo6sEsc6Xh8F-oyhA0u.html&si=RUqFBpF2bRuk5uph
Hi eri. Would you kindly add a link to one of your coffee coloured paper videos. I’ve tried to search for one but can’t seem to find one with directions. TIA.
A master board looks like fun to make, but difficult in terms of design. I have tried making some out of fall themed papers, and it was super busy, and lacked flow. My eye had no place to rest. Any suggestions?
It’s just an idea I’ve been playing with to help people with the same question. If you find a scrapbook page, or 12x12, or digital page you like……you don’t have to print it just have a screen shot of it and try to recreate it using your own pieces. For example if there’s a flower then add a flower that you have, if there’s a butterfly then add one of yours, basically try to replicate the layout on the screen using your own scraps. That might help. I do have a video of this process planned I’ve just not filmed it yet.
I have some real vintage newspaper that is fragile. It’s from 1910 I think. Maybe a few years earlier. I need to check again. Anyway would you use it? It was going to be tossed out from someone else. I asked if I could have it but not sure what to do with it
I also have vintage newspaper and the way I use it is that I choose my favourite pieces and then back them with other paper, copier paper mainly because it is thin or you can use an old book page, the glue I use is just a Glue stick. Glue the paper you’re using as a backing and then lay the newspaper over it and gently smooth it down, this will strengthen it.
Ann the official meaning of the word Ephemera is “things that exist or are used or enjoyed for only a short time.”, however in the journal world ephemera is a blanket term used for anything that can be added to a journal but is also removable. That is my personal interpretation of the word in relation to journal making.
Kim I often use master boards as covers, I normally cut my master board down to 9”x12” which is my preferred cover size, I give it a coat of Mod Podge to seal it and add a little protection from wear and tear, I usually add a liner paper to the inside so that it look good both in and out. If I have any tip it is to try and avoid having joins of papers at the six inch mark where you would fold the cover as that will be the spine and edges could lift, its easily cured though by adding lace down the outside spine after you’ve sewn in the signature.
YOU WERE BORN TO BE A TEACHER. WELL DONE AND THANK YOU

Love Master boards, 😊 ? Is it possible it can be used for a journal cover, if all is glued down and paper is thin enough, to bend !!??
Yes you can, see my previous answer to your question.
Hi eri. Would you kindly add a link to one of your coffee coloured paper videos. I’ve tried to search for one but can’t seem to find one with directions. TIA.
Lynne I’ve never made a coffee dyed video as I felt some many are already out there and better than I could achieve.
Oh ok. I’ll keep looking. But meanwhile, would i just make coffee and dip my paper into the solution?

What is the book you are using to make your master board ?
It is a 12x12 scrapbook I picked up at the thrift store.
Cari, can you show how to actually START a Master Board?
I am rather apprehensive about starting!!☹️
