Bonjour Marie-Anne, I appreciate that your videos are brief and to the point and that you don't meander around and go off topic or do a lot of redundant and extraneous chatting. You know your subject and do a great job of offering us your knowledge. Don't get me wrong. I love spending time with you here on TH-cam, but I appreciate the straightforward and direct style. You're a gem, Marie-Anne. xo, Sue
I am petite size and have learned the very hard way that colour blocking very rarely works for me, yet keeping the tones/saturation of colour the same top and bottom halves works brilliantly. For example - white jean & shell or beige top; navy skirt & rust top. Also the same colour from top to bottom. Not only does this avoid me looking shorter but it is a more elegant look too.
If you buy a button down shirt that bags out below your chest, sew a fisheye (waist) dart on each side of the placket for more shaping. I did this for a plus sized colleague of mine, she was buying blouses that made her abdomen look larger because the shirts had no waist darts. Don't let a shirt "hang" from the bust. It should shape you under the bust - even if you are plus sized, as it will slim that area and could effect more of an "hourglass" shape even if you aren't an hourglass. Such great tips in this video!
Bonjour, Marie-Anne! You are truly passionate about helping ladies dress beautifully. I appreciate that so much! And YOUR openness with the outtakes gives me the absolute giggles. I love them and I love this channel! 😘❤
I never realized about satin or shiny fabrics causing one to look larger. All fantastic tips, Marie-Anne. Your scarf is lovely today! Have a wonderful weekend. Xx💖
Hi, MarieAnne! You are an excellent teacher! I’ve recently gained weight and have learned that knits are tricky fabrics if you have lumps or bumps. No form fitting knits or prints for me. Please make a list of specific clothes that add weight. Gathered skirts and cropped trousers are good examples. Merci!
Great advice Marie Anne as for me since I’m very busty and don’t really have hips if I want to Wear white pants I almost always wear black on top it evens me out
@@MarieAnneLecoeurHaha, so funny! You do very well in your second language Marie-Anne. Better than I would do with my "high school French". Still, I enjoy the bloopers. Always good to laugh at ourselves!!
This is so funny! I am tall and and lean, and I use in my style all the opposites of what you mentioned here😃 I wear horizontal prints, actually I have almost the same dress that you showed in your video. I never wear the same color on top and on bottom, if I am in two piece outfit. Even in summer and don't wear all white. I don't wear V neck line ever, only open and rounded neck line because it makes eye look horizontal way. In my skirts and trausers I often wear shapes of tailoring which and volume to the hip aeria, and my pencil skirts often are just below the knee because it cuts my siluet in three equal parts, if I have a top wich is slim and ends on my hip line. It is all about optic perception and we can use it well in our advance, if we know how it works. Good video, thank you Marie Anne
Bonjour, Marie-Anne, a very informative and useful video, per usual!!! I am in the process of losing weight, and don't want to, "Let it all hang out," if that's the phrase!! I feel as if that's exactly what's happening with my clothes lately, so your advice is very welcome!! Btw, it's been fun to watch your hairstyle evolve into the really fun style that you're wearing now!! A bientot, et merci un mille fois!!
Great video as always! I find dressing tricks don’t work for more than five pounds of visual difference, perhaps a touch more. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a lot, but often not what many people are after. My “trick” is to invest in high quality, tailored clothes; then you just suck it up and lose the weight because they aren’t as forgiving. I got a beautiful silk, Prada skirt for a steal on consignment around five years ago and my heart broke when it got too tight this year. Better eating (mainly French food since French cooking is my hobby) and light work outs for three months put me back on track to rewear my old, slimmer favorites in time for fall. Another reason yoga pants are evil. If you wear them all the time it is very hard to tell when you need a minor course correction in behavior and habits and you may not know until it becomes a much higher mountain to climb.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur, I’m sure the course is great, I guess I just mean that even you probably can’t wizard 25 pounds away. Whether we are holding a couple extra pounds or not you are right that it is invaluable to know what to avoid. Some things can make people look heavy even when they are already slim, like those paper bag pants.
Yes, and it is only relative to yourself. I might look 5 lbs (2-3kg) lighter in a flattering garment compared to a non flattering garment. But I’ll never look slimmer than my skinny friend if I’m not skinny myself.
Very true Mystic Fox ! It's all too easy to wear big sized clothes to hide overweight, they are a trap !. . .In the end wearing tighter clothes keeps you more on your toes although they aren't so comfortable !.... Tks Marianne for your useful tips, there are many things to consider to appear slimmer and we need to be aware !. . . Is wearing a dress more slimming than a skirt & top ?. . . .
Wonderful to see the French words and your beautiful wardrobe room. I would love to see some regular women in their choice of clothing and then how you would style it better. Or formula dressing for each of the body shapes the triangle the Apple the hourglass etc.
Hello Marie-Anne, another great video. Recently you made a video about your love of Gingham. I have just seen Emma Hill modelling a black and white gingham shirt and a swimsuit by Sezane. They look super.🙂
I enjoyed this video Marie-Anne, I'm not only educated by your knowledge, but I had a good chuckle at your out takes and the 'whoohoo' at the start of this video 🤭😂💕
Marie-Anne another excellent video with important, helpful information. I love your scarf! Is it navy and white or black and white and where might I find one like that? (Brand name?)
I thought of asking you, Marie-Anne Lecoeur, whether you could cast your experienced eye on how a woman can travel light. I am packing to go away for a three-day weekend tour which includes a formal gala (dinner and dance) on the last night. How would you pack a small travel bag (and perhaps an additional rucksack) with all you would need to dress/pack for casual days out, swimwear for the time at the spar, followed by a formal dinner? Thank you for your ideas and great channel! :)
I sew for my plus size friends, and one of them just referred a woman to me to dress her. She is large busted, large abdomen, and large hips. When I took her measurements, she looked like she had great legs, so maybe an apple shape? I can't think what style of dress would look good on her except maybe a color block hourglass dress, but usually those dresses are knits. I can try making one in a lightweight wool and block it, though. Any suggestions?

Color blocking chops the body parts up to much.
I like the way Marie-Anne tied her scarf, I feel it gives an elongating suggestion due to it's lengthy drape.

I hate shiny and glossy fabrics ! You are so right on that they make you look not only bigger but awkward too :)
I also love the way you tied your scarf. The pattern definitely ties your outfit together.

very true hence why yoga pants are used when I'm doing yoga, or going to the gym.

I like watching marie video learned a lot how to match colour and dress up and plus do not need to buy so expensive clothing.
Great video. Cool colors make you look bigger, and warm colors make you look smaller. Wear cool colors only as accessories if you must wear them!

Video suggestion: how to dress to "fake" a narrower waist.
