When my brother was little, we were riding a ferry over a lake. It was a windy day and my mom's hair was growing increasingly tousled. She had a smile on her face. My brother, in his baby boy innocence, put it this way, "Mom, the messier your hair looks, the more beautiful you look!"

Thank you Marie-Anne for your video. It's very true. I remember a story my father told me about how my grandparents met. My grandfather would always see this woman running to work from his office window. Long jet black hair, flying all about her face, running late (always). Well he fell in love with that girl. Over the course of the last two years I let my hair color go naturally gray, mostly white. This morning my husband said "I love the color of your hair." Unprovoked - it wasn't even brushed yet. So there you have it. Desinvolte♥️

Marie-Anne, this is the most profound video you’ve done so far. Just when I thought some of your previous videos couldn’t be beat, you do this one. This particular aspect of the French is the thing that has always stuck out to me the most. I love this about the French mindset. You’ve really helped me to accept a lot of imperfections in myself. Yes, the frizzy summertime hair is a big one for me too. But you’re personality and demeanor, as well as your mindset in your videos is so endearing. You’re really an incredible lady. I don’t know any way other than that to say it. Xx💖💖btw, your little CoCo is adorable too💖😘

This video made me so happy. My hair is fine and has a mind of it’s own. People always criticize my hair. I love your attitude of non-perfection. A happy woman is always the most beautiful woman in the room. The picture of you on the beach is my favorite one of you as well. When I look at it, it says “freedom “. Thank you for not being perfect. It makes your videos more relatable. We want to enjoy this stage of life, not run around making ourselves miserable trying to attain perfection. I also adore Coco, who just might be perfect.🌷🌺🌹

I love this woman - she is the essence of the chic, alluring, intelligent French woman! I love also her philosophy here. Perfection is impossible to achieve - that is such a French concept, that the falling short of it has in itself a kind of attractive style! American women strive to achieve perfection and in doing so end up looking clone-like with no originality. I am an American born and bred woman, but I have always admired the French style and have always felt French in my heart and soul!

Yes! I fought my fine curly hair since age 12 but became a natural ‘curly girl’ 10 years ago. Last year I decided to ditch the dye and am halfway to white and grey. Guess what?! My hair is thicker and easier to manage, I travel light in a carryon without brushes, irons, hairspray, and my plane tickets are ‘free’ by saving the expense of 2-week coloring. Win win win!!

I started turning ehitecat 21....after having g a serious allergic reaction to hair dye..decided my financial resources were going to stay in my purse rather than a cosmetic company and I started investing in a very good stylist and he cuts my hair and styles it wo fearfully fir 30 yrs now neither of us want to see me in a time warp so the hair style changes here and there but I leave his chair confident I can achieve that look at home and for some one to whom is a serious klutz the curling iron does not always have to come out and me end up burning myself somewhere some how.....good cuts are worth their price long or short.

As an art student, one instructor emphasized that it's the irregularities, the imperfections that make a subject look alive. Also, Rodin, the great French sculptor, wrote that his works are meant to give a sense of change and movement from one state to another. Life is imperfection, movement.

Great video! 2 years ago I chopped all of my damaged hair from straightening it and grew out all my natural curls. In the 90's working as a beauty consultant and make up artist for the 3 biggest cosmetics and skin care companies, I had the required "hair helmet" and lot's of makeup that I had access to each day. Nor retired from a long career in the medical field, I no longer color my hair, cut it myself( it looks like yours) and I rarely brush it. Letting my hair air dry, I only use my hands and fingers. In the summer months, the horrific humidity lets my hair get very curly on it's own. And since the grey hair and casual styling, I get so many unexpected compliments. You've certainly helped me get my inner desinvolte out and trusting my instincts. Spending a summer traveling around france and studying women my age was a wonderful experience and part of my travels.
Coco seems to be quite the bon vivant. Would Coco like a sweet blonde deerface chihuahua? My Willow Grace would love to have a French Boyfriend. My house pet chicken Yvetter LaFleur is fascinated watching your presentation. She's also available !!

Wow. I believe that I'm more French than what I thought---my paternal Grandmother is half French. I love how French women are. All my life, I really don't brush my hair. I shower & go. I started wearing mascara & lipstick when I was in my late twenties. I still do not need blush or foundation. I love small earrings, I love, love scarves, etc. The more that I educate myself about the French woman I'm very happy to say that I have always been very French & proud of it.

Marie Anne, I watch your videos every morning when I am having my morning coffee, this video really hits home for me, I was born with curly brunette hair, I was a teen in the 60s so all I wanted was straight long hair parted in the middle when I was in high school, so all my life I have been trying to have the perfect straight hair and without frizz in the summer months. I would use product after product, blow out my hair, use a flat iron etc, etc
BUT this year I have just had enough of that, I decided to buy a product to bring out my natural curl, and not use any heat on it, and it has been liberating. My head is full of natural curl, soft and to be honest not frizzy since I have stopped fussing with it. My husband is wild over my hair, he loves it, my 15 year old granddaughter told me I looked so beautiful with my hair curly, and I have been getting compliments from strangers telling me how blessed I am to have such soft natural curls. So your words really struck a cord with me, as they always do. For the first time in my life I have decided to,let nature take over, and my life is so much easier and happier. I’m just sorry I waited so long. My hair never will be perfect, but that’s ok, curly hair has a mind of its own, and I just decided to embrace what God gave me, if he thought that was was best for me who am I to argue.
Have a lovely day, I have messaged you everyday, so please know it’s ok if you don’t message me back, I know your so busy. It’s just I have to because your videos just are so amazing, and bring me such joy ❤️

Bonjour Marie-Anne! One of the worst things that we are experiencing as a community these days is the (majority of) instagrammers. They set standards so high (yet so fake) that it's impossible to keep up on a daily basis! Thereby causing their audience to feel bad about themselves and become depressed. On the contrary I see you being comfortable in your skin and it's so contagious it makes me happy too

Your room looks so fragrant! And Coco a l air tres sage! I love the way you turned back your sleeves to show the white detail on the inside, with those white jeans I think this is desinvolte. In English, I would probably say 'flair'. There is also the term, 'artfully undone'. Flair is that special individual touch that takes things to another level. It doesn't need to play exactly by the rules. Living from within is the key to happiness how can we live from within if we are totally preoccupied with our appearance the whole time? Our clothes etc. should enhance our self-confidence not destroy it. xx

    • @Tiesquel
      @Tiesquel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

To me "flair & artfully undone" still have to do with something conscious, striving for beauty, that you can't let go, whereas "desinvolté" is going a bit against the system, a bit sauvage !... Great food for thought, in the video !!. . Tks Marianne ! ...We can't always be posing !....It destroys the happy, carefree attitude.

I love this word desinvolte! I remember your beach video. I loved it and you looked beautiful and desinvolte. This is what happens when you get older. You learn to embrace yourself, imperfect as it is. I have worn my gear in a messy shag for a while now since I have shoulder injuries which make it difficult to blow dry my hair. I have received many compliments for my bed head look. I have been dressing in this French chic way for a while now, not knowing the full reasoning. But it’s wonderful and freeing. Thank you for your videos and very wise advice. I think younger women need to embrace themselves and not try to achieve that instagram look too. Your beach video was the epitome of French beauty. I recently bought a several stripe shirts like your video not remembering who was my inspiration. It was you! That photo is tres Jolie. Merci beaucoup, Marie Anne! Another great video.

I love your little friend Coco! She is adorable. As to the message: Marie-Anne, you've nailed it for me. Be who you are and be happy about it. When I moved to Australia 23 years ago I tried so hard to fit in. Naturally. I changed my style - also, to blend in. Only recently, about four years ago I said to myself "this is ridiculous, you can't be who you are not". I worked on the idea of happiness, did a fair amount of journalling, etc. I am happy in my skin now and YES there is a lot of desinvolte in how I look. Thank you, I am always looking forward to your videos.

    Bonjour Marie-Anne.
I am French living in London for 30 years now. What you are talking about is my way of being everyday. I am anti perfection (boring)
Rebellious by nature even if it's not always obvious like a punk would be or so. So I see myself in that French way to be. Sweet and fun.
This video make me even more appreciate to be French in London. Merci🤗

I showed this video to my youngest today after she was fussing over her flaws. Those videos from Mexico were also ones I showed her. I'm still trying to decide what i want to do. I am starting as a retail clerk in a local grocery store. I love your videos and quite frankly, when I've been depressed about losing my job, you've been the kick in the seat and the voice of reason for me. I just want to say thank you with all my heart!

I am glad you brought this up, Marie Anne! I feel perfection is a bit of a “prison” we create for ourselves. We should free ourselves from what it’s being imposed to us and embrace our own natural and unique self. Most social media “influencers” show the highlights of their day and its simply their job after all to appear “perfect.” We lack real, authentic content to unite us not to create disengagement. 😘💖

Love the outfit! The light blue shirt and white pants fit your coloring well. It's my favorite outfit I've seen you wear on your channel. It's this great combo of relaxed, professional, and chic all at the same time. Thank you for your interesting videos.

My hair has never wanted to be perfect, and I live in a miserably hot and humid climate that requires way too much fuss for my taste to keep a hairstyle in place. I don’t like to use styling gel and hairspray. It seems so unnatural to me. And windy! I’m never going to be one of those women who look fabulous in a convertible, and that’s that....but once when I was a little girl my sister took it into her head to give me a shag haircut. That was the closest thing to perfection I had ever experienced, hair-wise! I love the feeling of freedom when I shook my head. I loved that my hair fell into place every day just by dragging a comb through it. Do you know how hard it is to get a hairdresser to give you a shag haircut when in their heart, long layers are the way to go? I finally took scissors to my own hair. Chopped those layers right out! I figured, I’m in my late 50s now so this is the perfect time to do it. I’m old enough to not care what other people think, but too young for people to simply decide that I belong in the psychiatric ward of the nursing home! I got more compliments on my hair after that, it was amazing. It transformed my ordinary frumpy Bob haircut into an easy-to-care for, Roll out of bed, run your fingers through style that made me presentable without a lot of fuss. Putting sunglasses on my head is no longer ho-hum: it gives me a lift that is cute as a button! When I want to look more perfect, I blow it, and I know that any wind will simply give me a more casual look. Now it is easy to get my haircut the way I want. Even if I have to do a little doctoring before an appointment!

I agree😀. To be desinvolte in my opinion means to feel comfortable in front others, not because you think to be perfect or the best, but because you love yourself, you love people, and deeply love life and world( also rain and wind that fizz your hair 😁) All people can feel your happyness and your self -confidence,and be influenced, and even feel better. This is beauty, to tell to everyone with our movements, attitude and glances that life is wonderful What has perfection to do with this?

Wow! This is one of those aspects of French style I have seen and felt but never been able to really put my finger on. You explained it so well, so articulately! And bonjour, Coco!
