Thank you Marie-Anne for the idea of keeping a Clothes Journal. I started one after doing your course "How to Eat Like a French Woman" I have gone from size 18 to size 10. It is a great Idea & I will purchase a Journal & start writing. Thank you again for all your help. You are a great teacher.
A style journal is a great idea, Marie-Anne. You have inspired me to replace some old rayon & acrylic garments with light weight wool and silk pieces. I especially love my new wool cape and enjoy twirling around in it, and I believe it even helps me walk faster :- ) I don't see anyone else dressing this way in Southern California, but at age 64, that doesn't bother me at all. Thank you for your wonderful ideas!
I did an exercise 2 years ago with a journal as I wanted to clarify my style and then declutter my closet. This exercise really helped me figure out what to get rid out, things I didn’t wear and determining WHY I wasn’t wearing them. I also recorded the brand of clothes I wore the most and the least. This has informed my shopping decisions. I avoid the stores that ended up on my least worn list. I identified the colours I prefer, fabrics I love, cuts I feel most beautiful in etc. I would suggest that if someone can’t or doesn’t want to commit to journaling daily I would highly recommend taking a day and go through the exercise at least once with your entire wardrobe.
Marie Anne, this video has reminded me to go back to basic living. This principal of writing not just about clothes but life itself is very important. And you are also right about being grateful in general. Thank you
Marie Anne, the best tip for me is writing in a journal. Recently I purchased a new pair of black leather block heels which I have searched for a year. Oh the thrill of the hunt! I'll describe my joy and gratitude in my new journal. The Kate Spade shoes were on sale with the signature 'spade' design at heel and across toe; so precious.
As usual, very informative and entertaining. Last year I left the USA, purchased a home in southern Italy, fulfilling a long time desire to retire in Europe. Of course, I had to pare down my wardrobe for the move. I made some great choices, but regret a few classic items I wish I had not discarded, but we move on. I am currently searching to replace these articles in due time. This “hack” is an excellent suggestion. I am no longer in need of business attire, the climate here is a change, my social life is evolving, and I have less closet space. All wonderful reasons to journal because I always want to appear attractively dress for the occasion. No sloppy American tourist outfits for me. In these cold winter months when shut in due to inclement weather, I am reorganizing my wardrobe closet for efficient use of space and time. Your guidance is so inspiring and knowledgeable. Thank you.
Journaling IS life altering. I keep a bullet journal that keeps my day to day organized, but also includes passing thoughts, quotations, book notes, and wish lists. I also have a wardrobe/style journal. It includes a complete inventory of my clothes. Just the act of hand writing out everything I owned made me realize that I had more clothing than I would ever need in three lifetimes. So by checking off items I could edit down to the items I really needed and loved to wear. Now I create a seasonal capsule out of my total inventory. If there is anything I think is missing, I write it on my wish list giving time to think about if I really need it and look for sales. It makes dressing so much easier, You also end up doing less laundry and maintenance. Thank you so much for your good advice. Seeing that you have posted always puts a smile of anticipation on my face.
Bonjour I just decided to take a look at my closet and had written down on scraps of paper what looked good and what did not,so now I am off to purchase a beautiful journal for this purpose, once again Merci.
I've made a start by photographing every item in my wardrobe, putting the photographs into a word document and describing each piece. This is invaluable for seeing what I want to keep and what I should send to the charity shop. Some things weren't even worth describing as I could see immediately they need to go. I've ordered a journal online so that I can write by hand as I develop a new style.
Bonjour Marie-Anne, thank you very much for this explanatory video. Having a daily diary is one thing but organising my thoughts to do a style journal I found perplexing. For me, the little light went on in my brain as I thought about what you were saying. So, it occurred to me that the best way, for me, was to sectionalise my style journal into categories. For example: Foundation wear. Dresses, Smart Dresses, Trousers, Jeans, T-Shirts, Blouses etc. I would also write where I bought them from. How they differed in style. Material. Durability and of course... Cost!? As my Mother taught me, I always write in my daily diary what I have worn for the day, and to where. I try then not to repeat the outfit to the same place the following week or whenever, however, one may ask why? It is because I can then work out the PPU or price per usage while at the same time overturning the wearability of my clothes evenly. A wonderful video for anyone to watch and so appreciated. 🙏 xx
Thank you Marie-Anne, yet another really inspiring and brilliant video! I love your style journal idea and will be following your advice and encouragement immediately! I am currently suffering from a very boring, too much grey, too much shapeless wardrobe. Completely lost my sense of style over recent years. Enough! I will turn this around and act on your inspiring ideas. You are such a joy Marie-Anne, please keep your videos coming, they’re very special. Merci bien!
Have been a journal writer for years and years. And I also keep a gratitude journal----Love doing this----- Now, onward to a style journal---- Thank you!!
A big WOW on this one. I started a style journal with French Daily 365. I literally got a 2” binder and made my own paper, dividers etc because I didn’t feel like buying one. I have vintage clip art in the background. I do need to print more paper. I also need to write MORE. I need to start reviewing my clothes and why I like them. I also like the idea of writing other things about my day. Love it 😍
I have problems with overpacking for vacations(and sometimes still having to buy missing items while on said trips) to combat this I write down what I actually wear, and What I should have had packed, but didn’t.
Marie-Anne, Marie-Anne 💃. I just discovered your channel a few days ago. I have been practising what you teach about creating an outfit on a mannequin. Now I do it day by day and I've never looked this good. I feel happier and more confident. I'm so excited
Need to buy a journal tomorrow! Merci beaucoup, Marie-Anne, Bonne soiree! Im trying to learn french! forgive the mistakes! just dont write back in french as I just started and do not know enough to have a conversation yet...
Great video ! And what a novel idea ... a style journal! I feel certain it will reveal valuable information! So ... for those of us who struggle with actually writing in a journal ... try using PENCIL instead of ink! I know it sounds a bit strange. But those who have experienced childhood trauma often have a difficulty writing in ink ... it seems to have to do with permancy. So USE PENCIL! This is the only way I can start & write consistently in a journal of any kind. Weird! I know, right! Thank you, Marie-Anne for teaching us how to become more stylish! 👍😁 💞💞
This is so true about writing in pencil I don’t like looking at cross outs and blobs my favorite pencil is the kind not made out of wood but you twist and the lead comes out I can’t member the name of them
Great suggestion I have been keeping a journal for 40 years I started out writing down how many laps I swim in the pool and also I kept track of my weight and measurements and then I started writing other things about my life it has been so helpful sometimes when I’m mad and I write down why am mad the anger goes away it’s all on the page now not inside of me
I keep a journal and have for years. I had started recording my bp/and O2, weather, and how I feel as I have a chronic health problem that I must keep track of. I also note such mundane things as my household do lists, grocery needs, menu plans and such. Its nothing to note something as fun as style and add that to the record. I like this a lot. Thank you for this little addition and the nudge to make it fun :)
Bonjour Marie-Anne! I had been writing on scrap pieces of paper and have now found a journal to use so will transfer my notes into it! I love certain quotes and will start off with one of Coco Chanel's clever quotes! I adore your enthusiasm!! Merci!!
I've done this electronically for years by spreadsheet and even in my palm pilot way back in the day. But I'm intrigued by your idea of writing it in a journal. One thing I learned for myself this way is that I feel ridiculous in baggy clothes. If I wear one larger piece the rest must be fitted.
Fantastic advice Marie-Anne Lecoeur! Writing things down like you mentioned its a fantastic excercise and practice to make one's style second nature. I will dare add one more thing, maybe take pictures of the outfits print them and add them to the notes. Sometimes when we look at ourselves in the mirror we focus on one area and don't look at the whole thing but a picture(full body preferably)its un filtered. By doing so and looking at it days later we could be more objective with the whole thing, I feel. Anyway, thanks for loving what you do and share it with us all through your channel!
I think style journaling is a great idea. I have been journaling since retirement, a little over a year. I would agree that creativity, insight and peace are benefits of journaling. And now improved style. 😎
Hola Marie-Anne, I like the idea of having a style journal, the way you suggest with questions and descriptions, for it will help me a lot and I am sure I will enjoy it. I thought I was the last human being who wrote down notes and it is great to know that you encourage other people to handwrite. I constantly listen to young people who use their laptops and tablets and who state that nobody uses paper in these days. Saludos desde CDMX
Bonjour Marie-Anne A journal is an excellent idea, thank you I’ve also been using another of your ideas from a previous video; taking pictures of outfits I’m really pleased with and saving them on my phone to an album so I can refer back to it and recreate the look again
This is so very important! I love your videos as I see new openings, possibilities and creative solutions to address not only my style journey...but life! The Artist's Way was a book that I purchased when it first came out....in the 1990's???....this journal keeping was suggested as a way towards creativity. I love how you applied these journaling, gratitude, and discovery principals to style awarenesses. Style is an expression of oneself and is creative... I love your channel and your knowledge. I am confident in my style, but keep moving forward...I am glad you are a part of my journey....your wisdom rests on my shoulder ready to whisper in my ear...
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I purchased the teal blue journal with the woman in a dress from amazon. I also have a Sprocket and I am currently printing off pictures of my favorite outfits....they are posted on IG as well. I thought I would analyze them to see why they work. I am not certain what I did for some....as they should NOT have worked according to the "rules" that govern my body shape....petite....short waist....long legs. I used a wide...super wide leather Alaia belt with a tiered ruffle maxi skirt. I should not be able to wear wider-than-wide belts...but I really like how the look came out (based on Christian Dior's 2019 Resort Collection). I am thinking about it and will put my comments in my new journal. I was so inspired by this video. I am very confident with my style and just play around until I really like the look. I am picking out the outfits that are not just really good....but GREAT! I will be LEVELING UP with this notebook
Hello Marie-Anne, I don't do a written journal, I had the idea of putting outfits together and photographing myself in the mirror, my dressing up sessions I call them, well I ditched the photography in favour of memory because the less I have in my wardrobe narrows down the choices and confusion. This way I find out what to de-clutter without too much trouble. However the downside of this is a hell of mess in the bedroom with the constant interruption of hubby asking whether I'm 'playing shops' again! My self indulgence is on a timer😁 It's a good idea tho and gives you focus.
I thought I was the only one that kept a journal. I’ve been doing it since I was in college. I started doing it because I was spending to much on clothing. When I took inventory of my closet I had the same item but different designers. I realized that I could get a few good quality pieces of clothing and mix and match to create different looks. I also take notes on which outfits I got the most compliments on. This help me determine what clothing styles fit me, since it does change as I get older and my body change. It also fun to go and read about some of the ridiculous things I have worn. Like the huge shoulder pads or Mc Hammer pants...what was I thinking.
My question is, do I love it? It helps me decide what to get rid of and what to keep. What do I love about it? I have lots of notebooks and journals for different topics. Writing helps to clarify what is important to you on any topic. Just start and then start again.
It would help me to see sample pages of a style journal. I've never done this before. I keep pictures of my capsule wardrobe on Pinterest and find that helpful. I'm open to trying a journal. Thank you for this helpful video, Marie-Anne
Great idea, Marie-Anne. I have kept notes on your videos in a notebook, almost a "how-to" manual, but I like the idea of a more personal journal on my wardrobe and observations. Merci!!
What a really thought provoking video! Thank you, Marie-Anne. I have a new journal at the ready and am already recording tips, and ideas and it is a joy!
Bonjour, Marie-Anne! Ah! I knew what is perhaps the number one style hack every woman should know before you told us as I have started a similar type of journal where I document ensembles that I assemble that I have enjoyed wearing so I remember to pair everything again to re-create the look, or to change it slightly with different accessories. And as you have also suggested, I already have many blank journal books that are lovely along with special pens so that also makes it a pleasure to record all the details of what ensembles I want to remember and I also note if it is perhaps in a seasonal category. Merci, Marie-Anne, I enjoyed watching this before I begin celebrating my birthday to-day. 😘 xx 😊
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Merci, I did have super day. 😊 xx Also, I have again added some new ideas in my style journal using what I already have in my wardrobe to prepare for the autumn season around the corner! 😊
Marie-Anne, it may be helpful to give an example of the effectiveness of journal writing. If you could show an excerpt of how journal writing actually facilitated in the development of a style.
Hi Marie-Anne, i did started observing more how people around me , and i am so overwhelm to see how bad things really are...i did not notice until very recently how people just don't care....i have the perfect setting to "watch" people because i live in D.C. and here people walk around and do not use the cars so much...but the metro , buses and uber, plus they walk a lot , and for that matter i can watch better than other towns in U.S., any how...what in the world is going on with fashion, or the lack of it...
A style is such a good idea! I am rebuilding my wardrobe so I can see how this will be incredibly beneficial as I replace pieces! Especially as things work for me, writing down things I get compliments on because that means I should get more of that thing!
Dear Marie-Anne... the biggest problem and huge frustration is not being able to buy the good quality classic clothes. Manufacturers need to cater for those of us who are not tall and slim. I find armholes and sleeves are always tight and way too long.to get a garment to fit is a nightmare. The quality of many fabrics is poor quality. I used to make all my clothes but at 81 .... no more !. Thankyou for your lovely cheerful videos.. you brighten my day xx
I hear you! You might have to try different brands, since brands vary a lot in the fit. I can't even wear the same brand in all clothes, either. For example, I like Lands' End 100% cotton sweaters (their Drifter line) but I have to order sweaters 2 sizes larger than I did 20 years ago in order to get the same fit since their fit went shorter and tighter. You can see even on the models in the catalog that their supima cotton cardigans have become very short and the buttons pull - they can't even button the bottom button! And yes, I still have Drifter sweaters that I bought 20 years ago, so I can compare the fit to what they have now! But their shirts have never fit me. The armholes and sleeves are too tight on their shirts.
The Style Journal is a fun and enlightening exercise. If you watch these videos, take a course from Marie-Anne, or subscribe to the French Chic Daily (which I highly recommend), you can write down the pearls of wisdom. Just glancing through my journal I see, "Three Pillars of French Chic," "Declutter to dress better," and my favorite "If it's not a 'Wow", it's a 'No." The last one is very helpful when shopping for new clothes and for decluttering! Merci, Marie-Anne!
@@MarieAnneLecoeurOf course you can ask. I started it to write down different outfit combinations that were winners.I would try them on to make sure. I'd even write what jewelry and shoes to wear. This helped me tremendously when I was in a hurry, or packing for a trip. I also would write down the items I needed to buy for the "perfect" outfit to make it complete! When I had more time I would try to make other outfits with the same items. But it's a blessing to have it written out so I can dress in a hurry. I made outfits from every piece in my wardrobe. It was fun! I've been very ill for years though so doing these things is not really likely anymore. I rarely go out anymore.
Love your videos, Marie-Anne, and the idea of a style journal is a great one that I will be implementing soon. Thank you so much for all your information! You really do inspire me to take more time with and put more thought into what I wear every day.
Dear Marie Ann, thank you for your advice and for sharing your energy and meaningful, reasonable, tasty approach to life and motivating us to grow personally. P.s Your new look with a new hairstyle has made you even thinner and weightless. Your style is so beautiful. Thanks a lot for the idea of outtaikes - it is very hilarious..

Merci Madame pour cette vidéo et merci pour toutes les excellentes idées ... Vous êtes trop mignonne ... adore toujours écouter et appliquer votre idées uniques dans notre vie quotidienne :)
I had never thought about writing anything like that but it sounds magnifique! For sure I will get a beautiful journal for this! I loved your shirt, I happen to have a very similar one! A bientot Marie-Anne!
Can you go into more detail about a fashion journal. Perhaps share a snippet of yours. I don't understand the concept. A gratitude journal, yes! So helpful, but a fashion journal stumps me. Thank you Marie-Anne. Really enjoy your channel.
I have a belated gripe. In your video on jackets, you did not talk about my favorite, the white with dark piping. I saw a similar one at Talbot's, and went to the store to try it on. I was disappointed because the length was too short for my taste. I will keep searching.
I see what you are saying, but, I think that digital photographs, with a timer and tripod or while looking into a mirror, are a better record of what Madam is wearing and what looks best on her. It is from digital photographs that I learnt what looks better on me.
Hi marie ann. That is a very good idea. I do it when im planning a trip, but now on , i will do it in a regular basis.Out of topic , do u wear snickers or trainers with all your beautiful clothes. I heard is in style now in france? 😳😊
Marie Anne ... i love your advice and I watch your every video but I like your pink shirt but this blue one is too busy and it doesn’t complement your beautiful face

You are so delightful. I feel so encouraged and motivated after watching your videos..
Having seen your videos...more than once,Think i start understanding your tips.
Excellent video. Your content is so refreshing and uplifting. Thank you for sharing.
Started my style journal today, 22/5/21. I have written lists before, made capsules before but a journal will be more rewarding. Thanks, from Ruth
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I am getting on really well and have even started tweaking a few items of clothing to give them a new lease of life.
I just bought my first style journal!
Great idea, Marie-Anne. I have kept notes on your videos in a notebook, almost a "how-to" manual, but I like the idea of a more personal journal on my wardrobe and observations. Merci!!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Of course you did! Lol. You've given us the basics of French chic! Invaluable!
Such a good idea! Going to buy a journal now. And I love the outtakes!!! You are so cute and funny!
If you could show an excerpt of how journal writing actually facilitated in the development of a style.
a style journal is a great idea! I'm going to pick one up tomorrow! great video as always Marie-Anne!
Wonderful insight Marie-Anne!
Love this suggestion I will be keeping a style journal.
Aspinal of London has a 15% off special today that I noticed. I ordered the Soho clutch via your link! It looks lovely.
LOVE your blouse!! Love the color, love the checks!
Thank you very much
Great advice Mary-Anne! I already do have a style journal, but haven't looked at it, nor written in it for a long time. Thank you for the reminder!
Bon Jour Marie-Anne! Enjoy your videos so much and now the out-takes! Great idea!
Merci!
Love your videos, Marie-Anne, and the idea of a style journal is a great one that I will be implementing soon. Thank you so much for all your information! You really do inspire me to take more time with and put more thought into what I wear every day.
I have just received your journal, I am starting right now thank you
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I received the original

Always a pleasure to watch your videos! Have a great weekend Marie-Anne. :)
Thank you, a really useful process.
I always love watching your videos. You look stunningly gorgeous as always. I love that you keep your hair short because it shows off your beautiful face. The gratitude journal you showed reminds me of something another person I'm friends with on here does.
Thank you very much for your advice 😍
Bonjour Marie Anne very interesting I never thought to write a Journal on the things to wear how it worked or didn’t etc... great advice Mahalo Nui
Bonjour Marie Anne I think I will give it a go mahalo for the tip Aloha

Madame Marie Anne absolutely I will watch your videos and listen to your great advise ... I just thought the blue shirt didn’t suit you like pink one ...thank you for replying and I hope you didn’t take it as a negative
Bonjour Marie-Anne, What a great idea!!! I am definitely going to get myself a journal. Love the gingham blouse it's very fresh looking. Thank you for more fantastic advice. 😘😘🇬🇧👚💄☕
I taught my 6 children at home for 25 years and they used journaling for recording what they learned
Love your hair - très chic.
Love your shirt .
i love your new hairstyle!!!
Enjoyed 😊
Great idea to keep an style journal, l think it would make me more mindful of my purchases and appreciate what l already own.

😆😅Enjoyed your outtakes as well
I see what you are saying, but, I think that digital photographs, with a timer and tripod or while looking into a mirror, are a better record of what Madam is wearing and what looks best on her. It is from digital photographs that I learnt what looks better on me.
Enjoy the outtakes 😁
Wow! I guess there are always unkind people.
As for me, I really enjoy your videos, Marie-Anne, and I learn from them.
Hi marie ann. That is a very good idea. I do it when im planning a trip, but now on , i will do it in a regular basis.Out of topic , do u wear snickers or trainers with all your beautiful clothes. I heard is in style now in france? 😳😊
Thank you!
Bonjour Maria-Anne love your top
Is that a fountain pen you're holding in the thumbnail? 😃
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I thought so! Is it a Montblanc? I have a little collection of fountain pens and they're all I use when I write!
