I've got a 2015 and I cannot express how awesome this bike is. Even nearly 2 years after I bought it, it still brings a smile to my face every time I press start.
My 2013 Ducati Monster 696 is so awesome! The mirrors suck (replaced) but everything else is great! so much torque and so much fun. It's my daily commuter. The engine sounds so delicious
What's good Chase! Riding a Duc will always take time to get used to, cuz those bikes are torque monsters! It can get choppy if you are not used to blending the clutch and throttle or chance the front sprocket. Also, I made sure I pick up the true sound of the monster on my vids, so viewers can have a real good understanding. Good vid man!
Utility is what I think this bike is for. Proper daily commut from point a to b and beyond. If all I had was this bike to get around in, I would do so with a smile!
I know the feeling.. I call the Ducati Scrambler Urban Enduro my Eleanor, because I will always want her, but never have her.. or more like - I almost had her, but it will never work out..
Soul is the right thing, Ducatis have so much personality, I would love to see him ride an old air-cooled one and see what he thinks of it, they're so much better.
I figure, what is better is a lot determined by where do you come from.. Us fresh riders probably find it hard to understand what everyone found so incredible in those old moody, heavy, and hard to control machines of the old.. But I must honestly say, before I have properly ridden one myself I will not judge any bike.
What I mean by better is that everything people seem to rave about on Ducatis, old Monsters have more of, and my S2R doesn't have any low down torque/having to rev it to be fun problems, also it can do u turns and is a single sided swing arm bike
Si però non gasarti tanto perché le fanno a bologna o in emilia romagna i think that you must be very s....d🤮 after two miles they are broke an cost a fortune to repair most unreliable bike ever made what a piece of junk crap🤮
I laughed when you said it's got that "something ". I have a monster 796 and that why I bought it. It shifts hard with tons of false neutrals, it doesn't like going slow, no wind protection but my god does it make you smile. And if you took it to the mountains you would love it as long as you rode it hard.
Hey brother I just wanted to say thank you for all the insight and attention to detail on your videos. Keep up the good work and keep making more videos of these series. I love that it is an actual genuine review without somebody just praising the bike in order to sell it.
Great video Chase! I actually agree with you regarding that "certain thing you can't quite describe about a Ducati." I think it has to do with the fact that the bikes are really built to be a piece of art. The engines are unique, and it has that Italian passion that really shines through with the feel and the ride of the bike. I'm going to be taking out a Monster for a first ride this weekend so it will be interesting to see how I feel compared to your review. Great work as always :)
I own this bike and love it. Almost all the quirks he says the bike has I agree with. I still love the bike. I don't regret buying it one bit. I got used to the turn signals and ergonomics of the foot position and the hard shifting. The shifting actually took me a bit to get used to but now I know how it acts. Its honestly what you are used to and the more you ride anything, the more it becomes natural. Love my Monster!
I have one after 3yrs on a Ducati sixty2 scrambler, progressed to a big bike! 2 weeks in. At the 1st ride, omg I’d made a mistake “got to sell it , too tall too heavy for little ole me at 5.4” but now its got its lowered seat I’m beginning to love it. & The big tank is great for a rest and regain composure at the lights! I do need a little more confidence on cornering and undulating roads, as I feel the steering is being snatched from me, oppose to the scam where I felt like I was in charge … early days but I hope I stick with it !
For the single sided swingarm you would have to swing for the Monster1200, it does look amazing though. Also, false neutrals between 5th and 6th happen every so often on Ducatis. One other thing, the 821 motor loves high revs, so while it does have a decent bit of torque down low, it really comes alive once you get up to 6k rpm and above.
You're right about the sound, I havent heard a single video which does the big v twin sound justice. In person its just sooooo meaty, brutal, best sounding bikes on the planet :) I feel like what you were trying to say is its nothing in particular just the way the whole bike is put together feels lovely. The sound is a big part of ducatis for me personally. NIce vid man.
All I have to say is, I get this I totally get it. I owned one loved every minute. Flat black 696, noisy clutch deep loud exhaust and the best looking bike anywhere.
The bike looks amazing ! The only downside to it is that it sounds a bit boring with the stock exhaust , but no one makes a more beautiful exhaust that that stock triple is .
sounds completely different in person. it has a thud that doesn't transfer through the mic. Check my page. My audio turned out slightly different/better I think.
It's funny seeing him ride my bike for the first time. Actually lots of very observant points, most of which I too have experienced, all the little gripes he mentions are true to my real life, everyday experience. Good vid.
Seriously. Comments like his in the video drive me bonkers. "Oh the clutch almost has to touch the bars". So...? Just means it needs adjustment, that's not a factor of the bike. Argh!!
how about this if anybody complains about the clutch, go buy a honda bike with DCT. seriously, the technology is there for people who complain but why aren't they getting it?
I have a Monster 821 and I don't think thats the case even with the factory setting. When you are riding it you just need a little pull on the clutch to shift no need to pull the whole thing.
I rode that, a 1200 monster and a hypermotard at a demo event at my local Ducati dealer. And your 100000% right. It's only happy at idle or full throttle. Anything inbetween and none of them where happy
That undescribable feeling that you couldn't get into words chase, I understand what you mean just so you know lol and yes that white and red body with black engine is simply beautiful.
14:45 to 14:55 - it is the Monster factor, it has been with that model ever since the introduction in 1993. "It" is something that many other manufacturers have tried to emulate. I owned a 1996 750, I know what I'm talking about.
lol my 696 pops out of gear relatively often. 4th->5th or 5th->6th it happens pretty often. Gotta give 'er a good kick. Sucks though shifting up to 6th it doesn't have much feedback at all so it's hard to know... Happens on the way down too sometimes... 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are good but the other three gears sometimes have a mind of their own. From what I've read though that's just a Ducati thing. I've learned to live with it although I've had a few pucker moments trying to get around cars and it jumps out of gear when I snap down into 4th. You're right about one thing for sure: The Monsters beg to be ridden hard. Ride it slow and it will punish you for it.
The problem you were mentioning at 10:40 is called throttle adjustment, it is not a factor of the bike being poorly made. The throttle is adjusted by the mechanics when being PD and made ready for sale or test riding.
Chase! I'm kinda surprised you don't like the transmission/clutch. I've gotten a lot of seat time on a 2000 Ducati Monster M900Sie, and the trans/clutch is an absolute dream. Butter smooth, positive shifts, clutch that bites strong but won't surprise you. Beats every new bike I've ridden. Hope Duc didn't ruin the new gen Monster. You ought to ride an M900 some time!
The seat on them is like a lazy boy lol. I fell in love when I sat on it. The stuff you said about having torque in turns and up top in straights like you're moving through time is why I love my Harley Dyna.
it's wonderful to watch C2W's videos at 0.5 speed, he sounds intoxicated driving up and down Cobb Parkway. also, cutting off a Honda Element constitute maneuverability on a motorcycle.
Sick bike m8 hopefully u don't crash it Ik u won't though sick synaptic shots u put so much effort in to these videos just for us a big thanks to u keep up the good work hopefully when I'm older I'll have a bike
Z800 vs FZ-09 vs Monster 821 In slow, third world traffic - For engine refinement - Best Chassis/suspension - Best Brake feel - Best overall - 5 questions, Chase I need answers, or ill go ahead and ask the dank whoolies guy
Sadly I wish I could make an entire video with all three bikes covering that. Since I'm currently not able to do that I'll just answer here: In slow, third world traffic - Z800 For engine refinement - FZ-09 Best Chassis/suspension - Monster 821 Best Brake feel - Monster 821 Best overall - FZ-09/Monster 821 (sorry can't decide)
I think street triple is a much all around better bike. But there is something with Ducati that you can't explain. I ended up buying a 2016 821 monster. I've never been so attached to a bike in my life. That and my 2006 fz6
Question for the next Q&A on moto mumble- if you let a friend ride your bike and he wrecks who pays to fix it? I'd love to hear y'alls thoughts. Going through this right now....awkward situation to say the least.
If they're an actual friend, they'd pay for it. It's like what Han said in Tokyo Drift, "I have money, it's trust and character I need around me. You know, who you choose to be around you lets you know who you are. One car in exchange for knowing what a man's made of? That's a price I can live with."
you're gonna wanna hop into the live stream so they might see the question. But if your bike is insured your insurance should cover at least some of the damages, but if you don't want to get insurance involved, or it makes you insurance goes up in cost, your friend should pay for the damages if they wrecked the bike. Also depends on the wreck, was it his fault or did someone else cause the wreck?
chaseontwowheels hey i ordered stickers on october 15th and they still havent showed up. And i havent gotten any notifications that they have been sent or anything. Help me pls
The ZX-14 sitting on the right at the beginning of the video to compare to the Busa you rode a few months back. Loved the cinematic by the way, keep up the awesome work!
I liked the way you stayed calm when that car pulled out on you. I don't rage when that happens to me, I usually wave my index finger at them 'naughty naughty'. :)
Chase, the only way I think you could record a Ducati well, is get a sound studio mic, like a 'Sure' and throw a wind sock on it, or get something like 1 of the Rode directional mics, which pick up outdoor sounds really well without too much background noise! Good luck man! As for Ducati, I actually liked the 09+ Monster's better for the exhaust position being away from the leg.
Hey Chase, I know you give feed back as to if your feet touch the ground, and overall fit, but you can remind people in your videos your dimensions? i.e, I'm 5'9", 31" inseam, and there is a few bikes I don't feel confident sitting at a red light with.
I've also noticed the Monster line doesn't have a good turning radius. It's the same with my S2R. Getting into false neutral happens easily too. You have to commit into shifting up or down a complete solid click. Try to halfa** it to shift faster just isn't gonna fly.
I live these first rides. they are my favorite review videos on TH-cam. I can't wait to see you finally get to review the 2017 R6, gsxr1000 and ninja 650r.
I've got a 795 monster and the issues you had in the video are just how I felt coming from riding a CBR500. Shifter is heavy, sudden neutral from not shifting hard enough and suddenly panicking for petrol haha.. I like your videos!
At 9 minutes in Chase demonstrates the wonders of the false neutral. Shifting gears on Ducatis requires you to SHIFT GEARS like you mean it. A toe on the shifter nearly guarantees a false neutral. Luckily you can just pull the clutch and shift again, just do it like you should have the first time.
No worries, there are a lot of Sunday riders, that don't ever take their bike out of their garage when there's a chance of rain and never find these things out the hard way.. :P
I'm really thinking about buying the 821 stripe. But as far I just had japanese bikes, with an easy clutch and easy gearbox. This thing with changing gears and ending up in Neutral, seems a bit shitty? Dangerous? or is the bike characters and sound waving away all negative points? :)
I think the exhaust sounds pretty good on video. I really miss my Buell. It was a horrible bike but had tons of torque and an awesome exhaust (nonstock).
I have the 2016 dark. It has character ,torque everywhere, sounds great . It is different to the norm. You have to ride one to understand just what it can do. It's involving.
@@vii2991 Ducati have improved their reliability alot in recent times. Service intervals are 12 months or 15000klm. Desmond service at 30000klm. Have had no issues with my bike.
@@filofilo8127 nice I was thinking of buying a 2015 Dark or a Yamaha XSR900. Only thing that held me back was a concern on reliability and a feeling that the monster engine may leave me wanting more vs the XSR. Other than that I prefer the looks of the monster and it’s quality feel.
Dude, you handled those close calls so well. I would've revved and honked the shit out of them and roast them on the spot. You just laugh it off and be professional about it. Good review!
Hopefully you get a chance to do a first ride on the 2017 Ducati Supersport when it comes out, as well as the 2017 kawasaki ninja 650. Would love to see your take on those two.
I do Admire the Ducati motorcycles. If i was not riding a japanese bike i would go for Ducati. I was into Harley when i was a kid, then i grew up. Can get a just as good Japanese cruiser, as you can an American Cruiser. With much less price. Price is the reason i never went for Ducati. I have always loved the sound of a Ducati.
TechSoldierOfficial isn’t that a Yamaha? I’ve seen a orange one I fell in love with. Im thinking my next bike would be a monster, an Indian or bmw scrambler.
TechSoldierOfficial yeah I was talking about that one, and the one I fell in love with was the Yamaha MT-09 an orange one. Yeah that could be another option for naked ones since Yamaha it’s one of my favorite brand along with Ducati.
I've got a 2015 and I cannot express how awesome this bike is. Even nearly 2 years after I bought it, it still brings a smile to my face every time I press start.
821 Monster stripe- Best bike I've ever had. My sportbike was killing my back, this thing rocks. I always have people staring at it.
5:20 dont complain about where the clutch engages cause that little knob on the clutch cable adjusts that
11:00 that can also be adjusted with the knob on the throttle cable
Manamon me or chase?
Manamon i dont see you at over 500 thousand suns
true that's what i was thinking.. maybe he never worked on a bike to know
xxroyalxtigerxx but dude, the clutch adjustment is the same on every bike
The word you are searching for is character. The bike has character
This is the video that made me fall in love with motorcycles, damn

I was waiting for this one :) Already bought this bike a couple of months ago. Awesome machine pulls so hard from the get go makes you smile everytime
The word you were looking for is "soul". That bike has soul! ;) (was practically screaming this throughout the video :D )

Haha true..i want a du-kaw-di very badly but just too poor..for now !!

It does look great in white but I think a Ducati should always be in that Glorious Red.
the dark r version is pretty nice imo too
Shashank Laur i want a mate black all black one ot looks bad ass, the red screems a lot,
Shashank Laur screams*, the last guy i saw riding one here in chicago was a grey with red rims and the red side bars the thing besided the engine
I have the white one and its awesome
OverKnight 52 that’s the 1200

SPI CREATIONS thats so true
Oh my god yes this so much
The bike looks amazing ! The only downside to it is that it sounds a bit boring with the stock exhaust , but no one makes a more beautiful exhaust that that stock triple is .

Brutale Dragster 800 rr!!!
It's funny seeing him ride my bike for the first time. Actually lots of very observant points, most of which I too have experienced, all the little gripes he mentions are true to my real life, everyday experience. Good vid.
I had a Monster 696 for a couple years. I had false neutrals every so often too. Typical Ducati, but it was still the favorite bike I ever owned.
5:20 so why dont you adjust the clutch cable before you ride the bike?
Seriously. Comments like his in the video drive me bonkers. "Oh the clutch almost has to touch the bars". So...? Just means it needs adjustment, that's not a factor of the bike. Argh!!

Absolutely beautiful first ride impressions and video. Good job chase
That undescribable feeling that you couldn't get into words chase, I understand what you mean just so you know lol and yes that white and red body with black engine is simply beautiful.
first ride starts at 2:07
The problem you had with with randomly shifting to neutral happens with me on my 96 M900. You gotta put some gusto into the shifts
14:45 to 14:55 - it is the Monster factor, it has been with that model ever since the introduction in 1993. "It" is something that many other manufacturers have tried to emulate. I owned a 1996 750, I know what I'm talking about.
Appreciate the brutal honesty dude!
lol my 696 pops out of gear relatively often. 4th->5th or 5th->6th it happens pretty often. Gotta give 'er a good kick. Its a MONSTER and wants to be ridden like one! thats all I can say... do it and you'l have a blast! Great Review!
Just picked up a 821, totally agree about the throttle and low speed riding being not great. But man it loves to rev!
chase that intro was freaking amazing bro. Your intros are getting better and better. Definitely about to elbow drop that like button.
Had this bike for a year, was so good to ride it everyday !
Best intro since the Fz09 review, this was a top notch.
The problem you were mentioning at 10:40 is called throttle adjustment, it is not a factor of the bike being poorly made. The throttle is adjusted by the mechanics when being PD and made ready for sale or test riding.
First ride a harley. Just saying i am a sport bike kinda guy, but i am curious to your take on it.
that feeling is only a OWNER of DUCATI 821 can explain. SHOUTOUT to all the NYC ducatistas!

Dude I always love your shots and editing at the beginning of these first rides you nailed it in this one.
thanks +chaseontwowheels I love my 821 monster glad you did a first ride for people that are looking into buying one
you detailed the bike more than the factory knows about it lool
come on Chase when are you going to do a first ride on the ZX-14. I seen that they have one
it's wonderful to watch C2W's videos at 0.5 speed, he sounds intoxicated driving up and down Cobb Parkway. also, cutting off a Honda Element constitute maneuverability on a motorcycle.
Sick bike m8 hopefully u don't crash it Ik u won't though sick synaptic shots u put so much effort in to these videos just for us a big thanks to u keep up the good work hopefully when I'm older I'll have a bike
I get so excited when i see a new first ride video out and its a sick bike
This is the best cinematic review I've seen... Great job... Keep it up
The white and red immediately makes me think Motonosity would love this bike
great review, had the similar experience test riding the 821 earlier this afternoon, your description was spot on. Great job.
Z800 vs FZ-09 vs Monster 821
In slow, third world traffic -
For engine refinement -
Best Chassis/suspension -
Best Brake feel -
Best overall -
5 questions, Chase I need answers, or ill go ahead and ask the dank whoolies guy
Sadly I wish I could make an entire video with all three bikes covering that. Since I'm currently not able to do that I'll just answer here:
In slow, third world traffic - Z800
For engine refinement - FZ-09
Best Chassis/suspension - Monster 821
Best Brake feel - Monster 821
Best overall - FZ-09/Monster 821 (sorry can't decide)
okay! thanks a bunch, hope this video hits a million! :)
Govinda Shedde FZ09 without a doubt
The z800 gets really hot in traffic apparently. I know someone who bought a 100cc moped for work because of this problem
damn I'm going between fz09 and monster! itssss sooooo hardddd!
Which would you prefer, a Ducati Monster 821 or Triumph Triple Street RS?
Yes
I think street triple is a much all around better bike. But there is something with Ducati that you can't explain. I ended up buying a 2016 821 monster. I've never been so attached to a bike in my life. That and my 2006 fz6

(Is not this Poster the guy who wrecked his friend's Ducati a while back? He might know yeah.)
Good Dog! Treats! Lol...
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO FOR SO LONG
the exhaust of this bike is extremely good, compared to any other standard exhaust this thing sounds phenominal, heard it irl, trust me... :)
Great video chase. Do you plan on ever doing a first ride on the vulcan s? It's one of the bikes i'm looking at for a first bike. :D
Not sure if that's on the list yet. I'll have to add it to my "to ride" list!
Sweet, thanks!

That neutral to 2nd accidental wheelie cracked me up! I Had an 800 for a year and was not impressed. An Italian Harley is my best description.
MSF suggests that during the day you ride with your brights on all the time. Slow on a Monster is loads of fun compared to an 1198.
I've also noticed the Monster line doesn't have a good turning radius. It's the same with my S2R. Getting into false neutral happens easily too. You have to commit into shifting up or down a complete solid click. Try to halfa** it to shift faster just isn't gonna fly.
The word you're looking for at 14:54 is personality
I live these first rides. they are my favorite review videos on TH-cam. I can't wait to see you finally get to review the 2017 R6, gsxr1000 and ninja 650r.
I've got a 795 monster and the issues you had in the video are just how I felt coming from riding a CBR500. Shifter is heavy, sudden neutral from not shifting hard enough and suddenly panicking for petrol haha.. I like your videos!
Another thing.. yes it gets hot during idle.
Camera shots were fab Bro. I need to do something like this. Great stuff.
I just bought one and yep it has “something “ but I don’t know what it is 😂😂👍🏽 , it’s awesome though I love it ❤️
One of my Favorite Ducatis, The Monster!!
DUCATI LOVE! :) Sweet vid.
FZ09 has ALL the bite off idle. Scary but AMAZING!
It's like an escalade... comfortable, and satisfying.
Try to shift Clutchless, Is pretty nice, and is really nice hitting corners and hills.
Makes me want a new bike every time you make one of these...
The shifting in a Ducati gets much smoother after the break in period. So I wouldn't make too much of the clunky shifting on a brand new unit.
Why do they always make stock fenders stick so far out?
So that if you'd happen to be stuck in the rain, you wouldn't get shitload of water and dirt on your back.. ;)
in my country for example the rear wheel cannot be stick out over the bike itself,,,
Ahh ok, I'm new to riding so I didn't know :)
No worries, there are a lot of Sunday riders, that don't ever take their bike out of their garage when there's a chance of rain and never find these things out the hard way.. :P
Many governments require the license plate to be at the outermost portion of the vehicle, that's why they make those hideous "tails"
Thank you for finally doing some more ducati's! finally!
How have you found the reliability on it?
@@vii2991
Ducati have improved their reliability alot in recent times.
@@vii2991
Engine wise the ducati has plenty of torque. Yamaha would be a bit more linear. Test ride the bikes if possible.
@@filofilo8127 will do thanks for the responses!
Bought 2019 821 2 weeks ago loving the bike it need a bit practice to get some muscle memory it’s an amazing bike
Did you get the red one or yellow?
@@lukelaputka7164 Red
Very nice and classy video brother! Great work
Can a beginner start on this bike if you leave it in urban mode
Please put the Hypermotard or Hyperstrada on your list of bikes for the First Ride series! I would like to see how it compares to the Monster.
The "Little lines" on the fuel tanks are for expansion. That's why the filler has a neck. Usually.
Dude, you handled those close calls so well. I would've revved and honked the shit out of them and roast them on the spot. You just laugh it off and be professional about it. Good review!
I can't wait to see you do a 2017 fz-09 first ride
Hopefully you get a chance to do a first ride on the 2017 Ducati Supersport when it comes out, as well as the 2017 kawasaki ninja 650. Would love to see your take on those two.
man your so lucky to be able to test ride a number of different bikes :)
16:35 I'm not gunna ramp that!
Hey Chase, are you able to ride MV agusta's? Those bikes are so sweet, you can call them art
I have always loved the sound of a Ducati.
yeah, i adore ducatis too, especially if someone "carbonized" it, but the price of it and the price to care of it is too high, such a pity
Nice bike, I used to not like naked bikes but i started to like them now.
Yeah that could be another option for naked ones since Yamaha it’s one of my favorite brand along with Ducati.
great vid as usual chase! naked bikes are becoming really popular in the UK. i was always into fairings and speed...now i have a grom 😂
You and yummi are hilarious together
its got a neutral finder by the looks of it. a half click in any gear will find neutral
