  • Another episode of Riding Bikes. This time its the one and only, the one I want - THE Monster. 2018 821 to be exact. Huge thank you to my broski Guy of the @Meat and Motorcycles fame for letting me touch his delicious bike. 109hp at about 450lbs wet of delicious speed. The timing was not right for me to pick up this specific bike but one day soon I will more than likely be on one of these. As always, thank you very much for watching, commenting and all the love. Ride safe out there - and if you got a bike that I can ride around NYC area, let me know in the comments!

      @@ducatinyc First think that fell me in love with Monsters are easy maintenance like changing air filter, plastic tank - no rust forever, battery, fuses... No plastic parts like newer models... or battery under the rear suppression like 821. Sorry for newer models, but my old Monster 620/2004 has clutch-less shifting up and down and enough power to beat Kawasaki Z1000 and BMW K1300R on curve roads and mountain passes :D
      My dream bike is still S4R, but don't have a money for him :)

    Long time no see!! Glad you are doing fine and looking for a new Monster! One of the reason the engine may be shutting down is because it's working on a very lean fuel/air mixture to rudece pollution. I know that because before purchasing a Monster I was looking at some Ducati Scramblers, some users where reporting this issue. Those 2 bikes share the same engine if I remember correctly.
    One thing for sure, the 620 sounds way better.
    I finally got to enjoy my Monster after having it delivered a couple days before quarantine, I fookin love it!

      Well to be fair the 821 has a stock pipe while mine is a wide open Mivv. And the stalling issue, who knows. Hard to tell exactly. And like William said - 797 and Scramblers have the same engine - 821 is another beast.

    A very good bike indeed, they're awesome! Honestly i feel like you would grow tired of not being able to stretch it's legs properly in the city, but you just have to experience it for yourself obviously. A 696 would be a great modern monster for the city, but you just do you and enjoy the big boy! Either way, all Ducati monsters are awesome bikes anyways, so you can't really go wrong. Stalling like that raises a big red flag to me on this specific bike, but I used to have a Triumph Street Triple R that had similar specs - it was a fun little ripper. If and when you go, another issue you have to deal with is the possibility of theft since you are a city dweller. That's a very attractive bike. But I'll tell you, you fit on that bike.

      Yea, it did raise a big huge flag, one of the reasons I decided to pass on this one. Theft, yes. Especially once I make it all sexy with a Motodemic and Mivv's and such. I would be infinitely more concerned with my bikes safety if I get the 821.

    I have a 2020 821 & love it. Engine heat is a bit of a bitch if it is hot outside - It can get hot enough to burn your leg a little. You just gotta keep moving on this bike. Engine stalling is a weird issue - if the engine not fully warmed up - when you rev high & then rapidly engine break, it can stall. Not sure if it's "the character" or an engineering problem.

    • @ducatinyc
      @ducatinyc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea it was stolen once but completely repaired. I did ask the owner and its actually a reoccuring issue as far as it seems on the internet. It happens to some but not others, its not a huge deal but seems weird. I'd imagine the heat is not a problem, my bike is air cooled as of now.

I remember cruising with some harleys at 70mph , that was the limit. Anyway I LOVE your bike and barebone machines , I gues the solution is on the proper gear to wear.
