I know it doesn’t have traditional Monster styling. But I like it. My wife got me a SP for my birthday, and I’ve been loving it. I don’t have the talent, or desire to push a 150-200HP bike. For its size and weight, the 111 HP seems like enough to me.
@@paulboulanger00 I bought my husband a Street Triple for MY birthday, because I felt bad that my Ducati Monster had all the 6 axis IMU stuff that his didn’t. So I guess I’m a good wife, too.
I picked up a new to me 2021 monster 937 (non SP) with 1800 miles for $8500 back in April. So much fun. I love it. Anything over $10000 and I would have probably not bought it. I use it for street riding around KC and work commute.
I love my Monster SP, it’s my first bike and just did the ARC with it and leaning it over and really exploring with it was a blast. As a short rider the height definitely took some time to get used to but it really isn’t that bad. Over all it just always makes me smile and the exhaust is lovely. Such a playful bike
I think this performance class (Monster SP, MT09, Z900 etc.) is the upper end of what's actually usable and enjoyable on the road. If you go to the 150+ or 200+hp super nakeds or supersport bikes, you can't really use them in normal traffic. At least not in a way that would be both fun and also legal (without losing your license). 115hp or whatever the Monster makes, it's still a lot of power in a bike!
The tubular frame was one of the most iconic features of the Monster. This new model is saucy but doesnt compare. They have really cut themselves out of many markets by not offering a smaller model...Thanks for all the kick ass vids!!!
I have a 2019 Monster 1200 25th Anniversario (Only 500 were made and only 100 came to the states) to me the last Gen 1200's were the pinnacle of the Monster evolution they were the muscle cars of motorcycles, it's a shame they went away from them. Thanks for sharing Yammie 🤘😎🏍
Got the Monster SP 937 a couple months ago as my first bike. Honestly such a great first bike. Has power and speed, not anything crazy but more than enough for a beginner. With the race exhaust and tune it does make it more aggressive feeling and a little spicier. Month 1 riding I took it to the track and it was a good time for sure. Feel like everyone should have a middleweight naked bike in their garage, great all around ride
As a youngin' I absolutely fell in love with the Monster. I was probably around 5 or so, back in 2001. Dad always had Harleys, and we went dealership to dealership because he was the kind of guy who always picked up parts for his friends. I feel just by the look that it's not the ol' classic I fell in love with as a child. 😢
I had a chance to try few different size Monster before I decided to go for the Monster 1200R. Nowadays quite rear to find, sound is killer, power and handling is sharp 👌🏽 official weight 180kg, 160hp… full önhils… for me that’s the MONSTER.
There is “two” versions of the base. I say “two” because the plus is just a seat cowl and a tiny bikini fairing that blocks wind from hitting your speedo. But you can get them fairly discounted. I saw one new going for $10.5 last month
One has a single cylinder and for some reason the other is a 2 cylinder. Check it out. Weird shit because I believe the Single cylinder is actually higher HP!
I have a 2022 Monster plus. I’m a short female and I had to use the OEM lowering kit and the lower seat to get it where I was comfortable in terms of seat height. The lowering kit is not available for the SP, unfortunately. I love the light weight of the bike coming from a 500 lb Bonneville and I have no issues with the handling. I will say that my right thigh is probably cooked to medium rare if I have to ride it 100 F weather in the city with stop and go traffic, to the point that I wrap reflective duct tape around my thigh. That works. Not sure if it looks cool or dorky. I did try the Street Triple, but it was just too tall for me, and I felt like I was sitting on it, not in it. With the Ducati I can nestle into that seat and feel one with the bike. My husband has the 2024 Triumph Street Triple and he loves it. I’m not bonded to the Ducati trellis frame and I do appreciate the lighter weight, so I have no issues there. I like the bison-like shape of the fuel tank so it gets style points from me. It is fun, too.
I own 2021 scrambler 1100 pro Oceanside along with triumph tiger 900 gt pro. Both are great in their own right . Tiger is smooth jazz and scrambler is hard rock. It’s a riot
That's precisely why I didn't buy it. I already had a MT07, and sold it. This year I was planning on buying the monster, the only Ducati I can afford, but I won't give 14000$ for a bike that looks like a 8000$ MT07.
Yammie liked your comment about latest parallel twins with 270 cranks trying to have the sound and feel of a v twin. You appear to enjoy the proper v twin. For me a long time ago bought a Yamaha TRX 850 twin in 1996 with a 270 crank (available in the UK not sure about the US). Nice sound and nice vibe enjoyed the bike 80bhp however snatchy below 4k in 4th or 5th gear and limited to 8500rpm. Traded it in for a Suzuki TL1000S. Oh my goodness proper 90 Degree v twin with 125bhp that pulled all the way to 10,500 rpm.
I've had a monster plus for a year now with the racing exhaust and tune up, along with upgraded front and rear suspension, they do better on track than one might think they would. I'd imagine the rear end grip issue is from the suspension just not being dialed in, when I take it on track I'm in full sport mode pinning it out of corners without having issues with grip.
This Monster is a great bike, very light and maneuverable. I tested the SP and the +, the + has everything for a lower price, perhaps adding a stiring dumper would be the only add. I’m not a fan of changing the exhaust, the stock one is fair and has a nice popping sound when shifting down. Trellis or not, I don’t care, even if the Monster looks nicer with it, there is plenty older models available in the market. Also, the light weight makes it more enjoyable to ride, and Ducati is evolving, which is a good thing. My only complain would be the heat from the engine in summer time. Used, they are a good deal for an entry Ducati and the package offered, and it is looking sexy.
I picked up a 22 monster as my second bike I traded In my sportster 883 after all dealer fees out the door for 7500 so not bad love the bike it’s fun and glad to see papa yam do a review on the bike
Ducati Monster was the 911 of bikes, an almost 30 year old lineage that was volves over time. With the new gen, they decided to make the 911 look like a run of the mill BMW. Nothing wrong with a BMW looks, but no 911 fan would be happy with it
sold my m-sp two weeks ago (traid it for a panigale...😈) IT'S AN AWSOME BIKE!!!! a perfect bike for day to day rides and sporty rides in weekends or track days from time to time. perfect!
I have a 2013 monster 1100 evo and a 2023 monster SP Yeah the 1100 is more iconic but when I really want to have fun in the mountains, I grab the SP key, no question I’ve never had any rear end issues of any kind with the SP and it is way ahead of my 1100 in handling and it doesn’t have as committed a riding position like the supersport or my 1100
I became a new motorcycle rider in August, and the Monster 937 is my first bike. I could learn and grow a lot from it. It is a beautiful city bike that meets my needs, and most importantly, it has a Ducati aesthetic that no other bike of the same level can compete with.
10:56 "Middleweight"?! It's amazing how performance levels have moved on in 30 years. This latest Monster has just 3bhp less power and 3lb-ft more torque than the original 916. And yet it still meets the latest Euro 5 emission limits.
Middleweight make 100-150 horsepower now buddy 😂. Also can't ignore the fact that motorcycles of the same displacement have been able to shed almost 30 kilograms compared to 90s and early 2000s motorcycle of the same displacement. The honda rc51 was 210+ kilograms for only being less than 100 cc more than this motorcycle. So calling a 765 a middle weight makes sense probably because it only weights 188 kgs (414 lbs).
It would’ve been nice had you actually spoke about the performance characteristics of this bike instead of complain about how the new Monster fits, or doesn’t, into Ducati’s lineup. You mention you spent the morning riding it. I assume you did more than ride it on suburban streets as you did in your video. You gave the Monster SP seven stars. Your begrudging review doesn’t rate that high.
Don't care about status. I want a monster because of where it's at in power and handling. I just want an L-twin for the noise and something easy on my pocketbook.
Do you really need the ohlins though becuase the SP is mad expensive for what it is, or do you just like this model so much. Because the street triple rs have so much more to offer with less. But well 🤷 I guess it's a ducati so their buyers don't look for price.
@@rns6889 the fact is I own a street triple haha, but with time I want to take more plasure on ride and fun and also going less faster, my street is alteady fast enought for me but I want more fun and this monster give me the thing, for my level of riding skills the olhîns is usless I ont go on track but I love to de and get nice parts haha (also, sorry for my bad english)
@@rns6889 Yes, I need Ohlins because I plan to track the bike. There are also a lot more Ohlins service centers which makes it easy for me to have someone service and revalve or respring the suspension. Unlike Sachs, Kayaba, Marzocchi, OEM special, etc which have no service center. Yes, it's expensive for what it is. I can afford it. Cash payment. Not a problem. I would have bought a Street Triple RS Moto 2 Edition. But Triumph wants to gatekeep and limit production with that bike, so they lost a sale from me. Once the RS version gets Ohlins front and rear, I'll consider getting one in the distant future.
Dont worry Yam, the Scrambler is a real Ducati in my book. It holds onto the old school tried and true soul of Ducati and is essentially the modern OG Monster in spirit. As an owner of an older 2010 Monster 696 with an old air-cooled 2 valve v-twin, i test rode this newest gen Monster and tho it is a better performing bike, it's missing that soul my old Monster has. I hate Ducati got rid of the trellis frame but I get why they did so, and it makes sense for the sake of progress (hence, again, the Scrambler is the OG Monster in spirit). I will never get one of these newer Monsters, it's just to similar looking to a Japanese bike, and too over priced. Plus, the right side passenger footpeg sticks out more due to the exhaust, and it grinds my OCD gears. I can't unsee it now.
Hey Yammie! My names Skyler Sanem and I just wanted to let you know I’ve been watching you for a long time now, I think since 2018, and your videos have helped me through a lot of bad stuff, and I’ve had an extremely rough year, I’d like to go riding with you sometime if you’re ever near Iowa!
I heard chatter that the mono engine is being lined up for a sports bike, which I thought was odd, as you were the only person I'd heard mention the idea before that (I think it was on MotoBob's channel). It would be pretty great, though.
I had a Monster 600 in 1997 the transmission was awful; getting it into Neutral was a black art, and changing gear was a lottery. Hope it's better on the new model!!
That’s an expensive mark up, got mine in Sydney for $19k aud or $12.8k usd in July 24. I love it but with the current conversion $17k usd would get me a Streetfighter V2 in the land down under. 😮
Where is the review?!! Half the review you are talking about your scrambler ! The other half you just talking crap about positioning of the bike and psychology of a buyer! Talk about riding experience and what do you like and not like please. How does it feel on highways twisty and urban? What's the power at the mid range and top end and low range! What about the suspension and break power!
I think Monsters peaked looks wise 10 years ago (I am biased because I have a 2014 796 S2R)... but... Anyone that rides the new ones says that they are awesome bikes. They just aren't different enough from the competition (Looks wise) for my taste...
The MT-09 is the perfect girl friend I don't want. I like Ducati with some edges and character. I don't like a bike when every second guy is riding the same.
They should make a Monster that is A2/LAMS compliant so beginners can buy a detuned 35kw Monster and then derestrict it to 70kw when they get their full licence.
@@unknown_truckers I think you are talking about riding modes. Not the same thing. But I did some searching and I believe there is actually a 35kw A2 compliant version of this bike available.
Not necessarily, I am tempted to buy a monster because of the look/design(actually I would remove the writing), good hp/kg ratio and electronics but may go for the Yamaha MT09 because the overheating issue would really bother me.
I have a 2022 Monster plus and I’ll agree the exhaust is hard to get used to coming from a Triumph Bonneville which sounded like angels purring. At first it sounded like my bicycle when I was a kid with the playing card hitting the spokes as one did back then. I’ve since gotten more used to it, and the sound upon deceleration with the pop pop pop is pretty awesome. But I get your point.
8/10 1 gear lesss shorter whellbase thpugh is more stsble in fast corner but less nimble in very slow 👌🏻 lil more tprq lil less topend power now have 93 nm 111 hp i wpuld like more 100 nm 100 hp with peak torq at lower rpm than 6800 still much better characterisitc than in me cb no doubt anyways perfect somewhere sround 5000 rpm with pesk torq like for me taste 😉 👌🏻 and 10/10 dont know about weight distribution though if have alot less than 50% at front than i give this bike 7/10 👌🏻
Had someone almost go though my back window of my car on one of these today ,I was at 100 and he panic breaked... was scary ,I knew in was OK but I was scared for him ..
For me the Monster is dead since they changed the look. I had an early 2000 600cc, it was nice, far from a fast bike, but a nice neo retro bike for everyday riding. The sound of te 900 with dry clutch was one of my all time favourites.
I test rode the Supersport 950 S. Same setup but so much more comfy. I absolutely love that bike but it is just overpriced at 18k IMO. Especially since 2 years ago it was 2k cheaper than it is now and is exactly the same. Makes no sense. That being said the quality felt unlike other bikes. It just feels really premium
Nearly 20k for a bike putting out 10k middleweight naked bike numbers is a bit much. I get the ducati tax, but it still seems like its a few grand too high
@ for an msrp of 16k? Taxes tags and dealer fees are gonna add a few grand to that and i dont see dealers taking a 4 thousand dollar loss on just the msrp. You sure you arent looking at places selling them for 12k Euros?
The streetfiighter v2 is so much more bike. More power and better in so many ways. I have a monster and will be selling it for a V2 streetfiighter soon.
@@robertrossi9374 I had a street fighter at the time but I’m in love with the hyper mono. I have plans to pair it with a Mt-09 SP. Supermotos are for sure my favorite category now, especially fancy Supermotos lol. How about you?
The Monster took the aesthetic from the Honda Hawk 650. It did not start the naked movement, it stole it from honda. Honda had the single sided swing arm, and tried, but was too ahead of its time.
I don't know where this guy gets his information from, but his numbers are way off, or he's getting ripped off and needs to find a new dealership. It's not nearly as expensive as he kept saying it was. As far as the nitch, it's just a really fun bike. That complaint about the rear end is the downside of an adjustable suspension, you have to know what you're doing when you set one up. If you're not taking it to the track all the time save your money and get the standard suspension. Better in the real world anyway. P.S. It is a little rough at low RPMs but if you're not riding it in the upper RMPs where it likes to be whose fault is that? The bike or yours? That shifter is there for a reason. Just sayin" lol. I've owned a lot of bikes with a lot more power than this lil" Monster but never anything as fun. 😀
I hate how they couldn't keep any of the old trellis aethestic. Is the weight savings really worth that? Were customers really aching for a 40lb weight reduction? I'll stick with my 620 and 1200.
Yes, the weight savings is worth the lack of a trellis frame. The new Monster destroys all other Monsters in the past, specifically because it weighs so much less than any of them. If you want something more traditional, get a Scrambler.
Don't like it. Prefer previous iterations of Monster-ness. I mean, yeah it performs. But it's missing that 'je ne sais quoi' feeling that I used to get just looking at a Monster. Meh. Seriously. I am getting too old. I feel like I'm shaking my fist at a cloud. Ignore me. Get one. Ride it. Bah!

That’s an expensive mark up, got mine in Sydney for $19k aud or $12.8k usd in July 24. I love it but with the current conversion $17k usd would get me a Streetfighter V2 in the land down under. 😮
“Seat fight is 33” I have a 32” inseam. I can flat foot this bike” something here doesn’t math right
Boots, bro.
Seat height is unloaded.. when you sit on it, the bike squats.
Boooo hoooo
I think Monsters peaked looks wise 10 years ago (I am biased because I have a 2014 796 S2R)... but... Anyone that rides the new ones says that they are awesome bikes. They just aren't different enough from the competition (Looks wise) for my taste...
The MT-09 is the perfect girl friend I don't want. I like Ducati with some edges and character. I don't like a bike when every second guy is riding the same.
Hypermotard SP or Monster SP? I love my 22 HMSP it's really nice and has a smidge more PS than this Monster SP
Ducati belongs to the VW / Audi group
They should make a Monster that is A2/LAMS compliant so beginners can buy a detuned 35kw Monster and then derestrict it to 70kw when they get their full licence.
They have a street tune built in to limit the power with a flick of a switch.
@@unknown_truckers I think you are talking about riding modes. Not the same thing. But I did some searching and I believe there is actually a 35kw A2 compliant version of this bike available.
It would it be cool on your edit to add the right price, spec etc
It's the same price as the Streetfighter V2. Buying a monster over the SFV2 is insanity.
Same price as the S1000R, I'd take that over either.
Ducati needs a solid middle weight around 6-700cc
"which one should I buy", Ahahahahah, it don't matter because you buy a Ducati for the badge. Just buy the one with the biggest badge. Ahahahah.
Not necessarily, I am tempted to buy a monster because of the look/design(actually I would remove the writing), good hp/kg ratio and electronics but may go for the Yamaha MT09 because the overheating issue would really bother me.
3:14 ive never heard such a weird exhaust note. Im not a Ducati fan really. They dont have a single bike that gives me the wow factor
Ride a diavel, watching videos does no justice
Dude you said Termi”G”noni!? 😂
I love mine! Extremely usable as a street bike. I think you’re being a little too picky with this because you like the old ones
Had someone almost go though my back window of my car on one of these today ,I was at 100 and he panic breaked... was scary ,I knew in was OK but I was scared for him ..
Funny the timing of this coming out
Its ok.. nice and nimble - the Hyper 950 SP is more fun
For me the Monster is dead since they changed the look.
I had an early 2000 600cc, it was nice, far from a fast bike, but a nice neo retro bike for everyday riding.
The sound of te 900 with dry clutch was one of my all time favourites.
This feels like fresh air after your periodic giveway bullshi. Being honest at last
Honda hawk gt NT650 started the category. Sv650 and monsters were a copy of it
I had an NT 650 Hawk. Probably my favorite bike I’ve owned.
I almost bought this bike.
Looooota marinara sauce 😂😂😂
what are you doing with your hands, putting on a show for the cars around you...?
no sound???
I test rode the Supersport 950 S. Same setup but so much more comfy. I absolutely love that bike but it is just overpriced at 18k IMO. Especially since 2 years ago it was 2k cheaper than it is now and is exactly the same. Makes no sense. That being said the quality felt unlike other bikes. It just feels really premium
Big Yammie do a Beginner Naked Bikes please bro
1 min gang 😎
Tbh, if they made a sv650 like monster, they could cover low and mid range fairly easily I think.
Nearly 20k for a bike putting out 10k middleweight naked bike numbers is a bit much. I get the ducati tax, but it still seems like its a few grand too high
Nah it's closer to 12 an ive seen them 10k new just gotta look in th3 right places
@ for an msrp of 16k? Taxes tags and dealer fees are gonna add a few grand to that and i dont see dealers taking a 4 thousand dollar loss on just the msrp. You sure you arent looking at places selling them for 12k Euros?
The only thing we are Perturbed about is the under powered motor
Maybe
"Costs north of 15 thousand dollars" - monster price fosho.
29:45. Yeessss! Come to the dark side!
When I think of the Ducati Monster, I think of the cool af trellis frame and the silhouette.
🎉WOW LOOKS JUST LIKE A 2014 HONDA CB1000R
Unfortunately, it looks much more like an MT07
Yeah, I thought it had a single sided swing arm but doesn't
Ducatis attempt at cutting cost
Just got back from a track day, was on my yellow street triple 765 rs. This bike destroys all the other middleweights, MT09 sp included, on the track.
Bro just rambling
The streetfiighter v2 is so much more bike. More power and better in so many ways. I have a monster and will be selling it for a V2 streetfiighter soon.
When Ducati released this Monster, I went back and bought a 2019 monster.
I would never buy the monster just because of that red pimple thing between the bars
looks like an MV Agusta
If its not air cooled its not a Monster.. The 1100evo was the last great Monster..
Ride it fast dont talk too much let the bike do the talking!
Owner one of these for a while. Fun bike, but got bored of it quick.
Yep, it was the same for me.... what did you replace it with?
@@robertrossi9374 I had a street fighter at the time but I’m in love with the hyper mono. I have plans to pair it with a Mt-09 SP. Supermotos are for sure my favorite category now, especially fancy Supermotos lol.
How about you?
I would rather get the Speed Triple. Ducati also got rid of the single sided swingarm.
So? Aprilia did too 16 years ago.
@smy5607 that's a long time. I've never seen a 16 year old Aprilla.
If I wanted a somewhat sporty v twin like the monster I'd get an Indian ftr 1200. Similar price but much more bike and much sexier.
The Monster took the aesthetic from the Honda Hawk 650. It did not start the naked movement, it stole it from honda. Honda had the single sided swing arm, and tried, but was too ahead of its time.
1 view in 50 seconds, bro fell off
Do you post this on every video?
Got your view within 50 seconds and that’s all you should worry about
Its a Sunday night.
This was funny 4 years ago when it was kinda clever and not on every video posted ever
19:20 was there a baby
2 Minute gang
the engine area looks indistinct... like you crumpled up a piece of aluminum foil.
Why this instead of mt09????
Ahh. So nothing but flexing the name of Ducati... got it
I feel like this gives off duke vibes. It's a between the 390 and 790
I hate how they couldn't keep any of the old trellis aethestic.
Just get a supersport. If you're feeling really adventurous, chop the fairing down a bit and expose that awesome trellis frame.
I’ll take my Kawi Z900RS Cafe over this any day. Then, take the money I save and buy another one. 😂
Ignore me. Get one. Ride it. Bah!
It looks like a MT07. Horrible marketing mistake.
Sigh... this bike is so disappointing. They should have kept making the 1200S.
I by no means dislike it, but for $5,000 less, you get more power and an absolutely awesome bike in the Street Triple R.
