Regarding the brake tapping, another potential cause is that the car ahead is using a Logitech G920/923/29 because those have a very common issue with the potentiometer in the pedal getting a bit dusty/dirty and randomly applying itself. It’s very annoying (it happens to me too) so I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the issue.
Disassemble it and use a contact cleaner on the potentiometer, it should solve your problem, I used to have the same problem with the gas pedal and doing this solved it.
@@macan94126 you will be disgusted by how much of your old skin has collected inside it, its very easy to clean though just need screwdriver and an alan key
Allan McNish would talk about this all the time on the WEC broadcasts. Drivers in multiclass racing are making thousands of minute judgements and decisions every second, especially when it comes to overtaking. Occasionally, there are moments like that where the telepathy breaks down and a faster car will run into a slower car. It's amazing it doesn't happen more often, tbh.
the brake tapping from the GR86 is a very common issue with the old G27 style pedals from logitech. The potentiometer gets dirty and worn out over time and starts registering an inaccurate pedal position. Typically the brake input in-game will look very jittery and spikey. Mine was actually so bad, that without a fairly significant deadzone set up, my brakes were always on, with spikes being registered all the time.
I posted in that thread you were featured in at the time - the guy posted with the clear effort to gain attention, rather than for what that sub is for - for drivers to gain feedback if an incident was, or was not their fault. The LMP2 guy had no intent, at all, to change his mind that you had decided it was your fault, they agreed and put fully on you. That entire thread was 90% comments, like yours, telling the LMP2 guy that he should have driven in a predictable way.
I remember this as well. That dude was almost proud that he was involved in that incident. He got his 15 minutes and got roasted for it. Entertaining thread.
There is someone in the comments here claiming to be the driver, saying their son posted the clip to reddit pretending to be him to wind him up, knowing Jimmer would see it. Could explain the weird mindset there.
if you look at 9:00 closely it looks like the other car turns into the pink one agressively way before the corner, im not a pro racer but if they where to keep turing similar to that i feel like they would cut straight over the grass. What i think they are doing is going for late block or something.

I absolutely hate incidents like Jimmy's, you approach the slower class presuming he will take a normal line and knowing its not a good place to pass you slow down. However the slower class has decided to let you through by going slower than usual. That catches me off guard, I panic and lock the brakes.
Agreed. The LMP2 did wrong, Jimmy could of avoided it by guessing what the LMP2 was doing correctly, But a racing line isn't really a guessing instrument, it's kind of universal, everyone in an LMP2 should take the same line at similar speeds but this was the wrong line at a very incorrect speed, resulting in a wild closing distance from Jimmy
And yet he was the one to fumble it and murder a man that was as far out of the way as physically possible and doing nothing that would raise concern other than obviously letting him through.
Being consistent and predictable is the biggest take away from this. Even if your line is wrong if you do the same thing every lap other drivers can at-least know where you will be
That Frosties intro was an unexpected blast of nostalgia! It was that game which was one of my biggest intros to sim racing after being sick eating frosties every morning for weeks as a kid.
With the brake issue (5:37) it can be broken potentiometer if he's using logitech pedals. It occurs more often the older the pedals are speaking from experience
I've had issues of having bits of dust or some other crap in my pedals, I can sit there and watch the axis flicker between 0 and 3ish percent. Eventually just spritzed the pedal from every angle i could get it with a can of air, and it seems to have sorted it.
Yeah the one thing I’ve learned from endurance racing is the slower car always should take the normal line and be predictable and let the faster car do the overtaking. In this case Jimmy did go a bit deep but if the lmp2 car took its normal line then most likely there would be no contact, so I’d just leave it as a racing incident.
I think the 8:04 crash was actually on the BMW, cause just before the collision the BMW starts turning sharply to the right directly into the Lambo. Think they may have gotten the track layout confused and tried to turn into the coned off turn, and because that wasn't the correct way crashes into the Lambo.
I simply don't understand how that's 100% on the Lambo (unless the bimmer's turn-in was caused by contact). Like you said, bimmerguy turned in like he was taking the coned-off road. You wanna talk about unpredictable racing lines, this would be it (but it was probably an intentional block).
some people nboted it may be due to lag, but then again, thats not what Jimmy argued. Insane tocall this the fault of lambo with the argument he could overtake another lap.
8:25 BMW turns into the lambo, BMW is turning either way too early for that corner and would have missed it by a car length or is deliberately turning into the Pink lambo. No matter breaking or whatever he still turns into the lambo.
I thought the same but I agree with the other guy rewatching it. Just barely made contact with the BMW as he's going left, and he spins out to the right
Jimmer punted that last dude, but the P2 is also AT LEAST 50% responsible. Number 1 rule being lapped in multi-class is be predictable. He didn't do that in the slightest. Slower class should NEVER 'get out of the way'. Mistake by the P2, but Jimmer did punt him.
On the brakes bit.. I often do this, on purpose. Wait... waaait, hold them pitchforks... On some circuits, where there is a long time between braking zones (spa turn 3, bathurst after the chase, last 3 corners of the ring... you get the idea), brakes tend to be a bit cold at the braking point. So a small tap, or ghosting the brakes for a couple of tenths, usually brings them back to operating temps, making the most on the initial bite of the brake. Also, it allows a deeper braking point ( because you are a bit slower and because your brakes are at a better temperature). To be clear, i think Jimmy is right here. He might be ghosting the brakes inadvertently due to a lack of dead zone. But be aware this is a thing, too.
Watching Jimmys crash live my reaction was, "What the f**k is this guy doing?"The last thing I would have expected was for the guy to be thinking, "Oh, Jimmy's behind me, I'll just pull over here and stop to let him pass." Really thought the race was over at that point so quite relieved Jimmy got the car to the line. But yea, when you're expecting someone to be predictable your choices will be based on that and when you suddenly discover they arent the amount of time to correct and avoid is minimal.
Its' not the job of the car being passed to get out of the way, DRIVE YOUR LINE. If you watch much endurance multiclass racing you'll hear them talk about that a lot.
I feel putting everything on the passing driver is an easy excuse. There's only so much the passing driver can do if the slower car is all over the place
It is the job of the faster guys to pass safely, yes. But it is much easier when one class goes one way and the other class the other. You can predict and plan out better. It's genuinely frustrating when some GTs do not follow this. T1 at Daytona is an absolute pain in the lmdh due to the brakes. One little bit of extra brake and your car locks up and you cannot turn at all. In my Daytona split some GTs stayed high, which forced me low meaning I had a much tighter entry, which forces me to brake harder leading to the danger of locking up and ploughing into the tyre wall, maybe with a few cars being collected. The LMDh doesn't have the acceleration the LMP1s had, you need to use that aero to pass. You can't use it if your line is compromised. TLDR drive the line the rest of the slower cars do.
As someone new to the channel and racing with a wheel in general, this sort of thing is fantastically helpful in learning how it's supposed to be done. It's like AITA court but for racing. 10/10
The brake tapping is a known issue for the Logitech g29, the brake pots get a bit dirty and when you yeet on the gas sometimes it gives a dual imput with Brake+gas, and sometimes a neutral brake position makes it flicker up to like 5% sometimes
I have a bit of an addiction to real life videos of accidents (or almost accidents) on track and on the street. It started when I spun 3 times on track with other cars and hit absolutely nothing and had no video of it and went looking for in-car videos from other people at that race. It always baffles me when so often the person who VERY clearly screws up in spectacular fashion is instantly angry at the person who did absolutely nothing wrong. I'm not talking about the 50/50 or 40/70 or even the 30/70 calls, but the 100% you sir are the idiot incidents where the idiot is absolutely certain they were done wrong and they insist in telling the actual wronged party in invective filled blaming shouting and screaming. And it happens a LOT!
100% brain fart, was so funny watching it at the time cause it looks like you just crash into him on purpose to the point I thought you had just done the final lap
Jimmy, not sure if you've seen but Car Mighty invited you to join him in one of his car hunt vids. He mentioned it in Muye's latest questionable racing video, I think you'd have a great time with them on beamng
If you’d turned inside the P2, you’d have been wiped out on the pit wall on 900th T1. Hilarious in playback that you leave the track to go hunt & kill like its #51 😹
First off....I LOVE these videos! It's a great way to learn what to do in a situation, and how to avoid them. Second.....I really think you were at fault on this one. No matter what your thought process was. Granted, you were tired and probably not thinking correctly. I know you're busy but would love to see more of these.
I watched the Daytona clip live and I think you summed it up great! It was just an unfortunate situation. The lmp2 car was going really slow, you missed your brake point and well you tried to avoid them and couldn't. I'd say the crash is mostly on you but the other car had a big role to play. Driving so slowly even off the racing line causes the following car to close the distance so fast, that it is hard to determine where they are going and what they are doing. You trip over them so easily because of the speed difference alone. Very nice gesture from them but better to race your race..
Honestly when I saw Jimmy’s incident at Daytona I also thought that the P2 car had gone wide but was still going to turn in to T1, so I can definitely see why Jimmer went to the right to try & miss him. It did look worse from onboard tho 🙀Either way I enjoyed watching the race
hearing Jimmy talk about his own incident at the Daytona 24 reminded me of some advice that FailRace gave in a live stream once, specifically in response to someone else asking for general driving advice (because they were about to go for their actual driving license test). it was a two part answer, first "don't ask the internet for advice" (lol), but second and possibly more importantly, "don't be courteous, be predictable".. but honestly, I would say the same concept applies in racing, just with everything happening at much higher speeds and with much less space between vehicles. which makes that idea exponentially more important. "hold your line" isn't just a suggestion, it's an unwritten rule of driving fast.
You should've pressed the secret button on the back of the wheel to activate the QHFD (Quantum Higgs Field Displacement) module and phased through the other drivers car
The BMW lambo crash is 100% on the BMW, there was no corner when he turned in, there was no contact until the BMW decided to turn a decade before the corner.
9:30 He was actually nice to you, I would clickbait everyone with a title like "Jimmy Broadbent crashes against me on purpose, as seen by his steering wheel, on the last lap of Daytona 24h".
Im glad you explained that second clip the way you did, because most sim 'drivers' would rage if they thought they made a clean overtake like that but still got spun out like #4 did, but they have to understand that they would overtake with caution in real life so why not in the game. its a sort of arrogance imo
13:00 - This is actually applicable in normal everyday driving too. I can't tell you how many accidents I've witnessed, and also accidents that either I've _almost_ been involved in, or seen people narrowly avoid, when people on the road are trying to be courteous instead of taking their right-of-way. I get that people like to be nice, but when its your right-of-way and you give it up, you become unpredictable and people on the road no longer understand what it is that you're going to do. And many people on the road don't have the ability to adapt, because they don't always need to; they're trying to get from point A to point B. So, moral of the story: Don't give up your right-of-way. Unpredictable courtousy is still unpredictable, and you may end up causing an accident (or getting into one yourself) when you're only trying to be nice. One of the worst examples is yielding when you have the right-of-way (rear-endings happen a lot because of this) or locking up a stop-sign and refusing to go when its your turn (causing more than one car to take the right-of-way from you).
Merging onto a highway at a slow speed is also a good way to get your rear taken out when you pull into 75mph traffic while going 35-40mph lol. But that's less about giving away your right-of-way and more on the side of being unpredictable and not assimilating with the rest of traffic. This is also why many jurisdictions, esp. in Texas, do not ticket you for speeding if you're going with the flow of traffic: It's safer to match everyone's speed then to be the odd one out going 10-15mph slower than everyone else.
It's different on the racetrack though. Often the same people who say that are the first to complain when someone doesn't get out of their way and end up costing them time. You can't win sometimes 🤷♂
Most of these just look like people who are either starting out, or do not get enough race craft to deal with "Driving the alternate line." People forget most of the people who play sim racing are not professionals, have no plan on going on a team, though occasionally they will drive in a league. There is a difference between deliberate contact, and accidental misjudgment of spatial awareness. And the Jimmy clip, just seems to be the case of "Driver follows driver who makes error and then compounds the error and both cars are now involved." Things change if one of the drivers is a personality, because people drive differently (regardless of sim) when the person they are leading, passing, or drafting just so happens to be a content creator for said sim. Unless your Gran Turismo, then morons just ram the personalities off the road and PD doesn't do anything and you get click bait videos for more views/subs/content in which become the talking point for "Why do I not play online" examples.
100% agree with drive your normal line when being approached by a faster class. Doing anything to ‘assist’ them to pass opens the door to uncertainty and then the zagging when you should be zigging begins, followed by F bombs.
I had a crash at Daytona doing something similar to the P2 in Jimmy's clip. I was trying to yield a corner to a faster driver, drove in my mirrors & missed the brake point so went straight ahead into the tyres at the bus stop. It was my first enduro in 9 months and I was rusty. My takeaway was exactly what Jimmy said, everything about my decision process going into that corner was wrong. I should have focused on my race, drove my line and let the overtake happen after the corner.
5:32 I think it is just overly sensitive pedal setup. Mine used to do exactly this and I didn't realise until a chap behind me in a race pointed it out. It didn't affect speed but can defo be offputting to drivers following you close for the brake lights to flicker on and off as you rest your foot on the pedal
You know we live in a petty world when the most people took from this video was two mispronounced words... Good video Jimmer, cheers for the advanced race craft tips. I think that Daytona incident was on the other car. You must be predictable, and that car was off line and missed turn in (or was too slow going in). You go left, you clean up at the apex. You go right, he shouldn't be there. You, rightfully, tried to put your car where that car shouldn't have been. But that car, wrongfully, was still there. 80% on them for being unpredictable and off-line, 20% on you for going in too hot.
7:50 In my opinion it might also be if the guy is using some pedals like for example logitech G27 pedals they might be dirty af and the potentiometers in the pedals might start reading oddly, hence the flickering, its the first thing i thought about cause i had the same issue on my pedals 💀
For those who think the lambo wasn't at fault, the BMW was in front and started braking for the corner, the lambo was tailgating and did not. The BMW swerved right because he was hit, not because he turned into him. Afterwards, the BMW still made the corner pretty easily because he actually slowed down, the lambo plowed off the track because he missed his braking point entirely. The situation is pretty cut and dry to me, that was a punt.
Slight consternation arose within DHR to assess elements of Jimmer's final stint before this incident occurred. Anxiety filled questions abound (from pit people and the driver tbf) like: How many laps remain? Where's the leader? Can I catch P4? How much fuel is in the tank at the line? Do I have to pit on the last lap? Add in Broadbent running a double stint, then rapidly approaching a P2 not driving predictably... ... and I believe Jimmy target focused/panic'd on the other car. My opinion is that his braking, down-shifting and line were likely going deep into T1 regardless (if not off the track). Unfortunate that it ultimately collected the P2, though I don't know if that's where Jimmy's eyes were locked, but it was an obstacle he wanted to avoid, only to do the exact opposite. I'd guess a lot of faster class drivers in sim racing have done this at some point.
I do really believe that injecting a concept "we all people and do mistakes" into our mindset will make online racing way more cleaner. Whenever we go on the limit we leave no room for mistake to others. And it's not always necessary. In the end we race to have fun.

Allan himself was involved in a huge crash at Le Mans in 2011 attempting to overtake a slow car
the brake tapping from the GR86 is a very common issue with the old G27 style pedals from logitech. The potentiometer gets dirty and worn out over time and starts registering an inaccurate pedal position. Typically the brake input in-game will look very jittery and spikey. Mine was actually so bad, that without a fairly significant deadzone set up, my brakes were always on, with spikes being registered all the time.
the dude trying to let you by when you're a second+ back is the prime example of racing streamers/influencers differently when you shouldn't.
@@iammars142 Jimmy's response just shows how truly genuine he is.

To me it looks like the BMW got hit at that point and lost his rear. If you watch it in slo-mo you can see the right rear of the BMW being lifted.

4:19 “resafe joinly”
I was looking for this lol
Being consistent and predictable is the biggest take away from this. Even if your line is wrong if you do the same thing every lap other drivers can at-least know where you will be
That Frosties intro was an unexpected blast of nostalgia! It was that game which was one of my biggest intros to sim racing after being sick eating frosties every morning for weeks as a kid.
4:18 always remember to resafe joinly guys
With the brake issue (5:37) it can be broken potentiometer if he's using logitech pedals. It occurs more often the older the pedals are speaking from experience
I've had issues of having bits of dust or some other crap in my pedals, I can sit there and watch the axis flicker between 0 and 3ish percent. Eventually just spritzed the pedal from every angle i could get it with a can of air, and it seems to have sorted it.
same as what I thought, I have the same problem. It isn't about broken potentiometers but about dirty ones.
Incident #2 at Oulton Park: The car literally disappeared as Jimmy says "He doesn't just disappear" Great comedic timing there

No matter breaking or whatever he still turns into the lambo.
fairly sure slowed down the lambo clips the rear right of the BMW causing it to come right, rather than him turning right.
4:20 was the best timestamp jimmer could have said something like that
Watching Jimmys crash live my reaction was, "What the f**k is this guy doing?"The last thing I would have expected was for the guy to be thinking, "Oh, Jimmy's behind me, I'll just pull over here and stop to let him pass." Really thought the race was over at that point so quite relieved Jimmy got the car to the line.
Remember guys always resafe joinly 4:30
You're so right.

4:20 - love the scramble of words you had going there, Jimmy.
To quote Rocket Powered Mohawk:
“THROW, HIM, IN, JAIL!! RIGHT NOW!”
Yeah my fav series. Wish it was a lil longer

From Jimmy’s onboard it definitely looks intentional 😂🙈
Damn. Hit in the child hood feels with that frosties f1 game.

@@mrchico2621 Oh for sure hahah
“ReSafe joinly” Jimmy Broadbent 2023
Always remember to 'resafe joinly'

9:00 It seems to me that the BMW braked early for the corner and the Lambo didn't anticipate it.
i think the BMW was going to turn down the track blocked off by the witches hats.
You know someone is British when they call them "Frostys"
100% agree with drive your normal line when being approached by a faster class. Doing anything to ‘assist’ them to pass opens the door to uncertainty and then the zagging when you should be zigging begins, followed by F bombs.
6:56: that's a dangerous driving incident following a blocking under overtaking manneuver, and can be sanctioned in almost all motorsports
"Be predictable" is the single greatest bit of advice for all forms of driving.
4:20 lol "re-safe join-ly"
5:32 I think it is just overly sensitive pedal setup. Mine used to do exactly this and I didn't realise until a chap behind me in a race pointed it out. It didn't affect speed but can defo be offputting to drivers following you close for the brake lights to flicker on and off as you rest your foot on the pedal
4:19 "resafe joinly" HAHAH
You know we live in a petty world when the most people took from this video was two mispronounced words...
Good video Jimmer, cheers for the advanced race craft tips.
I think that Daytona incident was on the other car. You must be predictable, and that car was off line and missed turn in (or was too slow going in).
You go left, you clean up at the apex. You go right, he shouldn't be there.
You, rightfully, tried to put your car where that car shouldn't have been. But that car, wrongfully, was still there.
80% on them for being unpredictable and off-line, 20% on you for going in too hot.
4:20 Beautiful tip. I never knew that you had to ‘resafe joinly,’ in motorsports. LOL
7:50 In my opinion it might also be if the guy is using some pedals like for example logitech G27 pedals they might be dirty af and the potentiometers in the pedals might start reading oddly, hence the flickering, its the first thing i thought about cause i had the same issue on my pedals 💀
4:20 “resafe joinly” you what Jim? 😂
4:20 "resafe joinly"
Yes. Flawless English there, Jimmer.
I came to mention "resafe joinly". Seems like everyone's got it covered already.😂
Loved racing against you at Daytona! Greetings from BRT!

re-safe joinly
2:55 "He can't just disappear" he says, as the guy promptly disappears.
I do really believe that injecting a concept "we all people and do mistakes" into our mindset will make online racing way more cleaner. Whenever we go on the limit we leave no room for mistake to others. And it's not always necessary. In the end we race to have fun.
It's up to him to "resafe joinly". Proper English. 🤪
