Clockwork angels has to be one of the best albums any band ever ended their career with. And the Garden is the most fitting songs ever to close an album and career. Hard to listen to that song without tearing up.
I second this Dave, you really need to hear clockwork angels, and the garden is my favorite on this album as well. Definitely emotional.

As, I'm sure, every other Rush fan on this video has commented, you HAVE to listen to this WHOLE CD!! It is an AMAZING Rush album!! Dude, where have you been? Rush's Clockwork Angels was their ultimate sign-off/Swan Song album and it was great final statement from this legendary band! Yes, get the album and do a video to react to every song on the album! Trust me/us, you will be blown away!
Rush ended with a banger of a album in Clockwork Angels. It is their first full concept album and has a steampunk theme and it is one of my favourite Rush albums.
Neil cowrote a sci-fi book to go along with the album. I loved the look if Joy on your face listening to this song

I am requesting Caravan off this album from the Time Machine Tour live in Cleveland.
Steampunk fits the album perfectly. And the entire story/.concept. Caravan 100% steampunk. My favorites song was the early release of BU2B. That and Carvan were released to streaming before the album dropped. I think they hurt BU2B with the album remixed intro. Also love Garden (as said above).
The U.S. Army band did their arrangement of Time Stand Still as a tribute to Neil about a month after he left us. Very well done tribute.

Wow, discovering new Rush! That’s friggin bad ass🤘 One of the greatest final band albums of all time, enjoy brother!!! Gotta check out The Anarchist, Caravan and BU2B from this album. I actually really liked snakes and arrows, Malignant Narcissism is such an underrated instrumental.

This is definitely my favorite reaction. I’ve watched you do! Though, I can’t believe you didn’t know about clockwork Angels, it was so cool to watch your first reaction to the song for the 1st time. I really do believe you will love the album. It is definitely one of my favorites. Yes, it was Neil on the drums and who wrote the lyrics. He passed in early 2020 (when the whole world went to crap). The best way I could sum up the album is it is a culmination of everything they have learned and played up until that point. So glad that their last album was one of their best. And as many people have and will point out. The garden is the perfect swan song for the band. 9.3 baby!

The guitar solo section of this song is killer .. shades of Freewill. The last song on the album .. The Garden .. is a very poignant way to end their career. And might be the album's best song.

Clockwork Angels is a top five album. I agree you should react to the whole album. Fun times.
Clockwork Angels came out in 2012 and it was a lovely album with a great story. Caravan, BU2B, and The Garden are all terrific songs.
Dreamline is a fantastic song and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.

A fantastic concept album and a great way to end the journey (with an accompanying steam punk novel conceived by Neil) .... Particularly, the last ever Rush track, The Garden, which takes on a whole new dimension, since Neil's sad passing. You should watch and react to the live version, in my opinion. Difficult not to tear up at the significance of the lyrics, combined with it being the finale.
Perhaps, if you must hold off on the album, you could read the book, the songs being an abstract take on the chapters (rather than a 2112-style story, which needs no further explanation).
Final idea... Why not do a special, and react to the whole album? 🤔
Same thought in my head. If you can’t wait then schedule a time to discover it while we all listen and laugh along.
great reaction! Clockwork Angels is one of my favorite Rush albums. This album is the only true conceptual album meaning every track tells a part of a story and the album as a whole tells a sci-fi story set in a steampunk world. They are also books written by Neil that further tells the story of the album. I would recommend listening to The Garden on this album. It is Rush's last studio album and Neil Pearts way of saying goodbye in a song. Probably their most beautiful song!
Hello David, I'm new to your channel first time I've watched one of your videos. I was just browsing through rush and Rush reactions and came across this one so I thought I would give you a listen.
Anyway I'm sort of a long time mediocre Rush fan. Now what I mean by that is I never did the deep dive in and bought all their albums but everything I've ever heard I pretty much love and I think they're great. But I finally started a deep dive into Rush this year, when I heard a couple more songs on reaction videos that I've never heard before and I never heard the album 2112 for instance!
So I started my Rush journey watching reaction videos and within the first couple of weeks I had already bought remastered versions on 200 gram LP of moving pictures and 2112. 2112 was my favorite Rush album for the short while that I've been getting into them (of course I listen to 2112 at least two dozen times over this year).
But I now own 14 of their 19-20 studio albums and several of their live album releases as well as some in-concert video releases. All purchased this past year.
I've become a huge fan and they have quickly become my favorite band ever. At age 54 I guess it's better late than never!
Clockwork Angels was about the third or fourth album I bought, and it displaced 2112 as my favorite Rush album. Now mind you, I have listened to their entire discography with streaming, even though I don't know own every album yet. In any case I recently got Snakes and Arrows, a few weeks ago, another 200g audiophile version LP. And now I'm torn between Snakes and Arrows and Clockwork Angels, as my favorite Rush album of all time.
I am one of those people who don't care for Rll the Bones as much, though I do think it's better than Hold Your Fire and Presto. I do own Presto on 200g LP and Roll the Bones on CD. I will probably never own Hold Your Fire, the one album by Rush that I just really dislike I think I like one song off of it..
But I'm going to go ahead and subscribe and hope that you start doing some reaction videos to Rusj's Clockwork Angels, so I can enjoy your reaction to this new-to-you album. And see if your reactions are similar to mine the first time I heard Clockwork Angels.

The entire Clockwork Angels album is incredible, react to the whole thing…btw, it’s the only full length concept album in the entire catalog.
Clockwork Angels is a full concept album. I would recommend reading the book (same title and co-written by Neil) before listening to the album. It really helps in understanding the story better.

Read the book too. Co-written with author of Dune (a Rush fan). Not sure I loved all the older lyric drops throughout the novel. It was fun for a while but then got distracting. It surprising the balance in life is a performer.
@@don-o-seven1437 I agree about the lyric drops, a little overdone. I thought it was a simple read, but it does bring the story to life more. (Like the 2112 album liner notes, but more in depth)
1. Do something for your own self - get the album and enjoy it on your own. Really. I’m actually jealous that you have the chance to experience it for the first time. It’s a good one.
2. It’s a concept album with a companion novel. It’s on Audible, and Neil is the narrator/reader.
3. When my father passed, I called the Social Services Administration to report it. I heard, “Thank you for calling the SSA, this is Geddy Lee, how can I help you?” Turns out his dad was a huge Rush fan and named him accordingly. That was a truly bizarre experience. 😜

This album to me is like Permanent Waves (my personal favorite btw) in that I don't feel there is a single bad song. I think you should just do the whole album song by song. I look forward to your reactions (it's what youtube Rush fans live for, to see 1st reactions 😄) and can't wait for you to get to the end, which is "The Garden".
I saw three of their last four tours before they called it quits. I loved their Time Machine Tour in 2011 and there was a new song called Caravan. Which would be on their next and last studio album Clockwork Angels. When I saw them on their Clockwork Angels tour in 2013, they just did not play Caravan as the opening song after intimation, they played most of the album with other musicians playing violins and cellos right behind Neil. This concert was the best one of the three. When you get the cd, I recommend the Blu-ray live version Clock Work Angels is worth it. Others in the comments have stated Caravan would be a good reaction. Especially the live version. 🎻
Read Neil's novel, "Clockwork Angels". I love Rush musically, but I am mostly about the lyrics. These lyrics make no sense outside the context of the story Neil creates in his novel. Obviously you should listen to the entire album, but "The Garden", the last song on Rush's last album, is the most beautiful musically, and meaningful lyrically, song ever recorded by the greatest band of my lifetime. (IMHO) And I'm close to 70.
The live concert Clockwork Angels live in Dallas 2013 is an absolute gem. The only tour they ever did with extra musicians on stage (string section) who join them for the second half of the dhow which is mainly the Clockwork Angels album. This song live is magnificent.
That day you discover a Rush album... Incredible! Do the whole album in order, being the only true concept album, the band says. End it with The Garden and a tear. I personally am not fond of the last 3 albums, but hey! 🇨🇦
What an incredible album this was for them to end their career on. It's an absolutely incredible farewell, and such a cool concept story throughout it. The Garden is really emotional.
I'm a fan of Roll The Bones, and also don't care for Snakes And Arrows. Clockwork Angels is a great album, top tier Rush in my opinion. And this song is very indicative of the sound of the entire album. Headlong Flight is also my favorite song from this album.
A request from this album...do the live version of The Garden. It is their swan song, and seeing them perform it live is amazing.

Was so happy to see this pop up! I don't know how you missed this, but I'm kinda glad you did! Get the album, it's a classic concept album. Full story. It even has graphic novels and novels attached to it. Neil wanted to take it to Broadway at one point. He was really proud of it.
There's a live dvd for the tour of this album too. It is amazing. Second half they have a string section for the Clockwork Angels album. Brilliant. Probably my 3rd favourite album of theirs. A Farewell to Kings still has top spot for me and Permanent Waves 2nd.
I think Alex admitted he was channeling Bastille Day for this. It's one of their most energetic songs. It kicks into high gear right from the start and doesn't let up for over 7 minutes. An awesome rocker to cap off their career!
David, please go and get the album, its brilliant, their best in years and worthy of your investment and time. Get some new friends .....ha ha.
Rushs only full concept album. Each song is definitely its own stand-alone song, the album definitely tells a story . There is a novel by Kevin J Anderson and Neil Peart. I hear Neil did the audio book. This album is pretty badass. And Rush toured like three times after the S&A tour. Lol. Of course, there was another albu.m. lol

This is Rush’s very last studio effort and their very first full album concept record. There is a running story through the entire record. This was from three guys in their 60’s after a near 50 year career and this is the last thing they did which is light years beyond so much of the music of that year.

I thought this song was talking directly to me--a lapsed fan. The intro callback to Bastille Day... The energy! I felt everyone was committed to taking this track next level. It was fun! This could easily've been on Grace Under Pressure. I think it's among my Top 10. It's a straight up banger. And yeah, this old fan is down with all of Clockwork Orange. Upvote!

How about a full album reaction? It almost has to be that way. This is Rush's only true concept album. The books by Kevin Anderson with Neil Peart are amazing too. The album tells a story. The final song, knowing it's Neil's final and favorite lyrics (The Garden) will bring you to tears.

Snake and Arrows never quite grabbed me. It has a few songs I like, but it was the only tour since Grace Under Pressure (my first concert) that I missed. I am so happy I saw them for Time Machine and Clockwork Angels...
I really enjoyed Roll the Bones (but the rap rubbed me the wrong way for a bit until I realized it was a personal bias I needed to get over).

If you want a truly unique RUSH experience, watch the DVD or Blueray of the Clockwork Angel's concert, it's like nothing else Rush has ever done.

I agree with your entire opinion on all Rush albums. I only disagree with your favorite 2112, i feel the second half is weak, so i don't put it at number 1. I put Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures equal as number1, because all 3 are perfect albums.
Okay what you need to do is watch it from start to finish and let us come along for the ride! :-) it's an amazing album in that it's their only true concept album you really need to listen to it from start to finish totally get it

I use to hear on radio thru a local record store, on the new album of a band I love... they would play the partial track and I can't describe the breathless anticipation, of having the music album in my hand and gently dropping the needle and listening to the crackle then experiencing the sonic joy of analog.... the hair on the back of your neck standing, your mind reeling, the moment, forever a mile marker of your life. without music...what is life but just existence.

Snakes and Arrows was weak, but Faithless is one of their best all time songs.

David, now that you are re-experiencing Rush with their album from 2012, please, please, give Snakes & Arrows another listen or two! You said you've only listened to it a couple/few times. I'm thinking you may have underserved yourself and the band but putting it aside so quickly. Why do I think this? Because you said you thought the album sounded "thin". THIN???? OK, this is not correct, and I really believe another listen, full-immersion style, loud with headphones and a comfortable chair, might give you a better perspective. It's not a thin Rush album. It's HUGE, actually. Listen to it again just so you can re-experience songs like "Far Cry", "Armor and Sword', "Spindrift", "The Main Monkey Business", "The Way the Wind Blows" and "Malignant Narcissism", among other great songs on the album. Please go back to that one for another try. At the time you first heard it, it wasn't the right time or whatever, but it warrants a re-listen.
Do your self a big favor in listen to this song live you won't regret it the live version is actually much better.
