Only RUSH could release an album that is one of their very best at the end of their career. A true masterpiece swan song. The final song on Clockwork "The Garden" is a beautiful farewell and an absolute MUST for Reaction in Action!! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂

I agree completely that "The Garden" is worth a reaction. It is NOT what I expected the first time I listened to the album. I still get a bit choked up every time I play it. Like someone else has mentioned, the entire album is best experienced when it's played start to finish.

I've been a Rush fan 45 years and wish I could live it all again! Rush has stood the test of time as their musical prowess and genius etches the name RUSH for eternity beside the likes of Beethoven, Mozart, Elvis and the Beatles. Pure mastery and a hundred years from now the name Rush will still be recognized. Awesome reaction guys... So cool to see Rush music strike again, enjoy the journey.

Oh, I forgot…the whole album is a story of the progression of a young man’s life. There was a companion novel written as well by Neil and Kevin Anderson. The album is the musical story, so it helps to listen to the album from start to finish. This song kicks live! It’s awesome! 😎

I couldn't believe it when Rush came out with this on their final album, hitting as hard as they did! And a callback to "Bastille Day" from CARESS OF STEEL, on top of that. For a final album, what a way to "take off!", to borrow from a certain Geddy Lee guest vocal; "what a beauty way to go"...

Was at this show in Montreal, my 24th and last show, seated 5th row ice with 3 of my buddies. The night was electric, charged and flawless.
couldn’t understand how 3 guys in their 60’s could bring that much intensity and musical attack, at that point in their career. Kudos to the three of them; their capabilities were in full display all over this song.
But special props to Geddy for singing this flawlessly all while playing one of the craziest most inspired bass lines of his career. The man is a living genius, a virtuoso of old.
We’ll be studying the Triumvirate for centuries to come.
Thank you Rush for all the memories and inspiration,
    & RIP professor & master poet NEP🙏

Guys. Please please please do the Full album beginning to end. Its the only full prog album Rush ever did and IMO in their top 3 or 4. Making them more ingenious and relevant than ever. But please read the accompanying book or at least a synopsis first so you know what its really about. And yes see it live...with orchestra😁👍Cheers Davy

Notice the time on the clock? 9:12. Aka 21:12 (twenty one twelve, lol) ... This is Rushs one true full concept album from beginning to end. It's a hard badass album. There is also a book called Clockwork Angels which also tells the story from the album.

This was their first full concept album and it has a steam punk feel. The whole album is awesome!! I feel they came full circle with this album.
They started outwith more of a heavier sound and they have come back to it but with a maturity and a sophistication that time and maturity bring. This song is a banger!! Caravan is also from this album and there is a live version from the Time Machine Tour live in Cleveland. I think you would enjoy it. Cheers 🇨🇦

The line 'I wish that I could live it all again' came from Neil's drum teacher Freddie Gruber who said that in conversation with Neil as he was reminiscing over his life. Neil actually didn't concur with this sentiment saying that he had no desire to live his life over again, but would rather focus on the present. Understandable in light of what had transpired in his life with regards to his family.

How many 20 and 30 somethings wish they could write and play as well as these guys did in their late 50's. Absolutely dominating musicians. We are all mere mortals compared.
I saw this live 15+ times.
Clockwork Angels is the closing chapter. It demonstrates ALL they have learned and mastered over decades. the story, the music all in a perfect album. However, before you listen to the album, get the Audio book Clockwork Angels. The Professor himself narrates it. It will give you such an amazing mental canvas to enjoy the music.
And finally you just to listen to "The Garden" this was Neil's swan song to all of us. You will not make it through the song without shedding a tear or 2.

All Rush concerts are epic. Not sure I would put any show in front of the other because first, they always bring it; second, they are/were so creative with their stage and their visuals, it's extremely difficult to prefer one show over the other. Lol. I mean washing machines, mini Stonehenges, dinosaurs, dragons, snakes, arrows, time machines, being moved by pictures, always will be close to my heart, 😜 Time Machine Tour was a ton of fun though! I threw on some steampunk goggles jeans and and burnt orange Rush shit and people wanted to take pictures like we were at Comic-Con, lol. Although, downside to wearing the goggles! I lost a pretty big section of hair that night, lol. Totally worth it. We were like 5 rows back right next to Alex's side of the stage. My bestie was in guitar heaven! I'm always just so grateful to be there.

Listening to Headlong Flight is like riding a wild bull.
Loved your guys' video and your perspective. As a "seasoned veteran Rush fan", my usual favorites are the usual suspects like 2112, Xanadu, La Villa, Natural Science, The Camera Eye, and numerous others. But this one... this one took me by surprise. To this day I hear something new everytime I listen to it. It will take years for humans to peal this onion. I love that about this song. Top 5 for me in Rushdom.

I could be wrong, but I don't know any set of dudes (old rockers) in their 60s who wrote songs like this, still making hard original music, and displaying such major skills. A lot of bands are still around, but they mostly play their old music. RUSH was still making great originals all the way to the end.

Rush - The Garden (live version). The last song of their very last album. Be ready to be moved (emotionally). It’s a bit of a tear jerker for me. Given the subject matter of the song and the melancholy melody and the fact “The Professor” (R.I.P) is no longer with us. .There could not be a more fitting last song for an epic trio like Rush. The older you are, the more this song will hit you in your soul.

There's something to be said for the earlier analog album constraints of 45 minutes. As of the 2000's Rush began releasing longer and longer albums, but only gave us 3 originals in that time. Vapor Trails, Snakes and Arrows, and this one. Meanwhile, all the songs tended to suffer a case of homogenization across all of the albums. Look back earlier in their career and every 5 years or so, they changed up their sound in some major way - classic Hard Rock -> Prog Rock -> Mainstream Rock -> New Wave -> Pop Rock -> Grunge -> Metal... and they just got stuck in that last rut until they retired. Can't help but think that if they spread out their creative juices a bit, we would have gotten more variety out of them over that last decade and a half.

yep, the book is pretty fun.
but just a small point of fact about how neil actully felt: he was adament that he had absolutely no desire to "live it all again". that was literally the sentiment of the main character in "Clockwork Angels" the novel.
If your your into fantsy adventure novels, it's worth a read. My son and I both enjoye it. Or you can always choose to have Neil read it to you in audio book format
it's al there for the taking, gentlemen.
P.S. Oh yeah. And the album makes more sense having read the book.
PPS: "The Garden" may be the most perfect swan song for the band and especially for the man who wrote the story. Just a little teaser for you the preface to the song is a quote from the classic novel "Candide" by the great French Philosopher Voltaire. because of course it is! -)

Love the reaction boys, especially during the break. Clockworks is a great album. Don't know the whole story but it's a concept album about following your dreams. The theme is steampunk. Neil also collaborated with a friend to write a novel based on the album. Just before the TIme Machine Tour 2010, the band released two song from Clockworks for digital dll. They continued this process of releasing tracks as downloads up to 2012/13. The full album was release in 2013.

The R40 show was an amazing show to see live. However, knowing it was the end of the road for Rush it was also bittersweet. As the last strains of the encore finale "Working Man" were fading away and Geddy was saying farewell to the crowd there was not a dry eye to be seen. It was a very special moment to share with fellow Rush fans. The show was awesome on several levels but musically they were on another plane of existence. Lerxst was on fire all night. They were locked in to a groove that was a tight as any I've ever seen with my own eyes (that is to say live without being overdubbed to edit out 'mistakes'). After 40 years of being a Rush fan, I said the same thing after that show as I did after my first one, "These are, with the exception of Armstrong and Hendrix, the best musicians at their respective instruments that I have ever heard." I meant that sincerely in '76 when I told my buddy Larry that I just seen a band that changed my life and I meant it in 2015 when I said to my wife and son as we were walking back to the car after the show. I still get teary listening to "The Garden". 'Tis hard to believe that the Professor is gone. Their music was a big part of the soundtrack to my life and times.
I saw my first Rush show on 27 March 1976 in Spokane, Washington at Gonzaga University's old basketball arena (it's been replaced with a much better one) and I was blessed to be able to see at least one show on each subsequent tour. I took my then girlfriend to her first Rush show and we took our now 30+ year old son to his first Rush show for the Time Machine toue. As you can imagine, the music of Rush has made up a great part of the soundtrack to my life and times. "Although it's just a memory, some memories last forever" #RushLyricsForEverything 🤘😎☮

Clockwork Angels was Rush's final album and this was a concept album that delved into 'steam punk' which is a kind of post-industrial future shock. This is an excellent album and we couldn't ask for a better finish from these legends. Check out the live version of 'The Garden'. This is a beautiful final statement from Neil.

Every comment from each person is dead on! Thanks for reminding me of how great this album and tour was. It was so much better to be there than the concert video they produced (disappointing quality imo). Saw shows in Dallas and following night in San Antonio which had alternating sets which made it even better! Now this is totally off topic but I have side story to Rush that needs to be told. Me and my friend Bryan with his son took a journey to see Rush in San Antonio. On the way there we stopped at a Arby's of all places in Temple (of Syrinx)Texas to get lunch. As we were walking from car to restaurant we met a transient male who took time out of his day to stop us and compliment our Clockwork Angel tour shirts we were wearing from the previous night show in Dallas. He told us that he went to a Rush concert in 1983 and loved it because the crowd was so awesome and not too rowdy like at other shows where he got upset and stabbed people in the crowd. At that point we ended the conversation with this man and proceeded to walk at a slow to rapid pace as if leaving a tigers cage. So moral to story, even possible serial killers appreciate the greatness of Rush! My request for you guys, Stick it Out off Counterparts their best album imo.

Best song on the album. If I'm stranded on a desert island and I can bring only 3 studio albums of Rush one of them is Clockwork Angel's.
Do "The Garden " off this album and try to figure out what Neil and the boys are saying in this one. They ripped this live.

Those are alchemy symbols on the cover. The story is set in a Steampunk world. Think the Will Smith movie Wild, Wild West

Neil’s lyrics are not about wanting to live his life again, especially because of the tragic death of his daughter and then wife.

@@JaredDoyle76 You may have just answered my question for decades…why did they pick 2112 for the year on the original album? Cool!!

@@brettking1014 I've thought that too. It's interesting how they incorporated some elements of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture into their 2112 Overture.
