    Final song of the final album. The absolute perfect end to an amazing career. Still have a hard time getting through it without tears.

      Absolutely! That is why this song hits so hard. A ballad as their send off and then Neil’s passing to close the door. Amazing!!!
      The line “a measure of a life” hits me every time but live with Neil…OMG. Moving up my Rush rankings.

      So true.
      All RUSH fans knew this was the end.
      So much respect to these guys.
      They will forever be missed.
      Thank you RUSH for a lifetime of amazing memories.
      RIP Neil.
      Never forgotten!
      Remember, Neil knew this was the end,
      Thus this masterpiece.

    The measure of a life is the measure of love and respect. So hard to earn so easily burned. In the wholeness of time, a garden to nurture and protect..... Who other than Neil can write lyrics like that????

    I remember when Neil passed away a LOT of people on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. we're referencing this song to Neil and his life. The lyrics take on a whole new meaning after his passing. What I think made his passing SOO hard to so many people was because no one knew he was sick. Neil was such an extremely private person he didn't want anyone outside his family and very close friends to know that he had brain cancer. He suffered for 3 years and NO ONE knew. So much respect and kudos to everyone involved for honoring his wishes and keeping it private. RIP The Professor.

    I lost my mother to cancer one month before this video was released, and my brother, who introduced me to Rush, just over 3 months ago, and seeing it always makes me burst into tears. It's a beautiful tribute to three lives that have touched mine, and who were taken much too soon. I hope you have a chance to see the U.S. Army Band doing a beautifully moving rendition of their song Time Stand Still as a tribute to Neil. Rest in peace Professor.

    Have been a fan of Rush since the 90’s. Seen them countless times in concert. Even have signed photos in my office yet this song hits me every single time. It totally has a new meaning since Neil’s passing. Absolutely beautiful song.

  • @mycroft16
    @mycroft16 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It IS a beautifully written and played song. The lyrics are emotional and very relevant to the band, to Neil, to their relationships with each other, with their fans... so many meanings in this. And the music does build, slowly, adding layers. Adding harmonies. You can tell it's special to them as well. They are all 3 extremely involved in it. Their faces show how important it is to them. It's an incredible farewell for the band that redefined themselves and stayed on top to the very last note.

    Do you want to know what part of this concert brings me to tears? It have it on blu ray and watch it often. At the beginning, when the house lights go down and the crowd goes nuts….. it brings to life that feeling of watching them live and knowing it will never happen again. I’m a wuss.

    Yes, Dave, the strings are a part of the cd version. In fact this live version is VERY close to the album. Well done in recreating the studio sound.

  • @CygnusKC

    FUN FACT: One of the string section musicians (violin, maybe?) is Peter Dinklage's ("Game of Thrones", "Elf", etc.) brother Jonothan. Peter himself does a cameo in the rear screen video during the song "Roll the Bones" along with a few other celebrities. Oh, and yes, the strings appear on the studio version.

Always emotional for those of us for whom their music and lyrics meant so much throughout our lives. Yes, this was a live performance in Dallas. **Edit** I just listened to your comment again and I misunderstood. The strings are definitely on the original studio recording.
    Have you heard the live version of Losing it with the original album musician on the electric violin? His name is Ben Mink. Another great version of that is the one with Johnny Dinklage. In fact, I think Dinklage was even better.
    This song always makes me shed a tear for our dear departed Neil Peart. RIP Neil. This song was the last song on the last album. It was his swan song in more ways than one. It was goodbye (retirement wise) but now (unfortunately) it serves another purpose. Every time I listen to it, I think of him.

    What's cool is this song came from Geddy and Alex noodling on each other's instruments. Then they built the song from there. If you listen to the melodic bass intro and the accompanying chords Alex plays in the beginning, it makes total sense. Neither of them would approach the song that way on their respective instruments. Cool way to get inspiration!

    Knowing what Neil died of, this song is unbelievable. I don’t think he knew of his illness when he wrote this, but the day I heard of his passing and how, it hit me doubly hard because the lyrics of the last Rush track on the last Rush album are sooooo close to reality it’s scary. I have several lines of the lyrics tattooed on my right forearm…years before he died. It’s good that this made you choke up, because you’re like me, you love Neil.

    To answer your question about the string section, yes it is on the studio album also, just beautiful and helps set the ambiance and fills space nicely.

  • @chiefbrody75
    @chiefbrody75 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Yes, the strings were on the album, which the band said it only makes sense to hire a string ensemble for the tour. I was wary at first (Rush with a string section??) but it enhanced the songs and show greatly. Even on classics such as YYZ and REd SEctor A. Also Dreamline, which did originally have strings also. It was so good that when selections from Clockwork Angels were played on the R40 tour, they were definitely lacking imo because of the string section not being there

  • @darrenvanderwilt1258
    @darrenvanderwilt1258 ปีที่แล้ว

    For greater context, read the lyrics and introduction story on the album, read the novel “Clockwork Angels,” and discover the background philosophical story “Candid” by Voltaire. After that, this song will cause you to choke up every time you hear it with tears of joy for a life well lived by Neil Peart.

    This album, magnificent. This song, the last Rush song we ever heard, brilliant. I listened to this whole album the day it was released. At the end Olof this song I sat for a good 2 minutes in silence wondering what could ever possibly tip what I had just listened to. A very fitting end to their discology. I sensed that the his was the end of them somehow and they went out on the highest notes of their lives.

Not every song needs to be a technical masterpiece to matter as this shows. Peace
