And thus Atlas became Atlantis. I love how Salem doesn't even acknowledge Ironwood at the end there. He was never a threat to her and did most of the work for her.
I love how Ironwood never realised who he was truly fighting all this time until it was too late; he had been so focused on Salem and Ruby's group that never even noticed Cinder until she had already made the final move and checkmated him right in front of his face. That was the moment in which Ironwood realised that he had truly lost.
It has been a privilege to experience your journey throughout this series. Now you're on the same boat as the rest of us, and I look forward to seeing your journey continue alongside us in the future!
*immediately sees the Penny plushie & shirt* Ooooohhh.... Oh.... Uhm... I'm so sorry. :( RIP Penny. I'm sure her and Pyrrha are piecing things back together.... Yeah. *runs* You were right about Ironwood. He had a messiah complex as you mentioned in your E11/E12 reaction. I think he could have been written to be less extreme and more sympathetic while still playing the role of an antagonist. His turn was hinted at as far back as his debut in volume 2, but I just want some grey area; he didn't need to be an extremist. In the end of V7 both he and RWBY had valid points and I could see both sides. With Atlas now becoming the drowned city of Atlantis, we're down to three kingdoms. Salem is quite literally almost at the apex of being the one in control. She no longer has any reason to hide herself and can freely burn the world as she sees fit. With Jaune, RWBY, and Neo falling into "Wonderland" and Crocea Mors breaking, I think Jaune will end up with some form of a combo between his old sword and Excalibur. On that same note, I think Neo will team with RWBY and Jaune after a brief scuffle and agree to work with them, but only to get back at Cinder. I know you hate Cinder, most of us do, but I made something using the titles of the 14 episodes that portrays her story in this volume. DIVIDE them Deny their REFUGE Pull the STRINGS Do not FAULT yourself Play your false AMITY MIDNIGHT tolls for the final hour This is WAR DARKness will fall Serve the WITCH Proclaim your ULTIMATUM RISK it all Make your CREATION Become WORTHY And then you'll have THE FINAL WORD Checkmate
*_"And that's checkmate."_* -- Cinder Fall Just like in Volumes 1-3, we have Cinder just manipulating the hell out of *_everyone_* INCLUDING, potentially, Salem, and I LOVE to see it. Whether you love her or hate her, there's no denying that Cinder was a boss-ass villain this Volume, especially in the last two chapters. This really was Cinder's Volume more than anyone else's, from the first word to The Final Word. In the first chapter, Salem claimed that this was her game to win, rather than Cinder's; but in the final chapter, Cinder proved Salem wrong: this was indeed Cinder's game to win, no one else's, and Cinder proved that she is not some piece on the board, but rather her own player just as much as Ozma or Salem or anyone. And she planned it all in less than an hour as well. And after everything, as if mocking the countless deceased, Cinder Fall alone emerged victorious; in the end, she was the only one who really won in the War for Atlas. The former slave finally got her revenge on the kingdom that caused her so much pain and degradation, and if/when she gains enough power to overthrow Salem, the rest of the world will be next. As Cinder herself said: *_"I want it ALL."_* Now we can fully understand all the Cinder moments in the V8 Opening. That long scene with everyone frozen in time while Cinder just walks confidently past them all is in reference to Cinder's use of the time-stopping abilities of _TWO_ Relics: the Lamp of Knowledge and then later the Staff of Creation. Also, the OP scene when Team RWBY is falling into the abyss, Cinder's Shadow Hand grabs onto Ruby's forearm to drag her down, which is in reference to the fact that Cinder sent the entirety of Team RWBY as well as Jaune and Neo into the abyss. The funny thing is that despite Neo attempting to assassinate her 2 Volumes before, Cinder would've most likely spared Neo and kept her around had Neo not betrayed her again by trying to threaten her with the Lamp in V8. But after having taken Watts and the treacherous Neo out of the picture, no witnesses remain to rat out Cinder for the lies she told to Salem in order to secure her continued support. Cinder is using Salem just as much as Salem is using her, but they both fully intend to betray each other when the time is right. The question is: whose usefulness will run out first, and who will be the first to strike when it does? Emerald has still not fully learned that Cinder doesn't care about anyone other than herself. Emerald may have severed all ties with Salem, but she hasn't yet done the same with Cinder (she never even cared about Salem and was only ever doing any of this for Cinder). But now, thanks to Cinder's use of the Lamp of Knowledge, the Dark Maiden is now aware of her loyal servant's defection to the heroes. I wonder how Cinder will plan to deal with her going forward. Will she attempt to manipulate Emerald back to her side, or just use her up and throw her away as she did with Watts and Neo? The first line of Penny's song ("Friend") in the credits, *_"Darkness like Midnight,"_* is a reminder that one of the first and last things that Penny ever felt as a human was the pain that Cinder gave her. Destiny is cruel to Cinder Fall's opponents; Penny especially has been killed by her _TWICE_ now. Will Winter be able to carry on the torch forever, to keep the Winter Maiden powers away from Cinder as long as possible, or will Penny and so many others have *_"[given] up [their] lives just to find that it was not enough,"_* as the Volume 8 Opening song said?
@@kingraplhmativo5178 I think that Cinder will likely plan to kill them both eventually *_IF_* neither of them show any willingness to come back under her command. She may attempt to manipulate Emerald into coming back to her again. And now that Mercury’s faith in Salem had been shaken thanks to the combined efforts of Emerald and (unwittingly) Tyrian, he is once again liable to switching sides; from the master that wants to _end_ the world rather than rule it (Salem), and back to the master who wants to *_rule_* the world rather than end it (Cinder). Though I’m sure Cinder was furious at both of them betraying her for Ozpin/Ruby and Salem respectively, I believe that Cinder will look past that if they choose to serve her again. After all, Cinder was willing to look past Neo’s attempts to assassinate her despite Neo having once been Cinder’s subordinate alongside Torchwick, but then Neo crossed Cinder again by threatening her with the Lamp, which caused Cinder to use Neo up before throwing her away. Cinder gave Neo another chance after betraying her the first time, so it’s certainly possible that she could do the same for both Emerald and Mercury. If Em and Merc don’t show a willingness to serve her again, I don’t think Cinder will move to kill them until she has gotten everything she can out of them first; she’d manipulate them, use them up for all they’re worth and then cast them aside, just like she did with Watts (for all his backtalk and verbal abuse towards her over their time as associates) and with Neo (for betraying her twice; attempting to assassinate her the first time, and threatening her with the Lamp the second time).
50:52 fun fact, that building here in this scene is the Glass Unicorn where Cinder was raised as a slave, sorta symbolic that place is the last scene of Atlas before it get flooded.....
The people at CRWBY are fueled by our tears. Congratulations on finishing, and I’m sorry for laughing. Penny's death broke me, Qrow calling out for Ruby and Yang turned the pieces into dust, and the credits song set the dust on fire. Last thing: you may have missed it, but Jaune is the one who had to kill Penny
in response to the Qrow part, the fact that he did is either poor writing, or it means they never told him (and Robyn) the entire plan about going to Vacuo, where global communication would be impossible.
@@ImPersonNation He could have been calling to make sure they DIDN'T answer, which would mean that they were out of range (but yeah, it's more likely bad writing)
Yeah, I was gonna say, with such a plan communication would have been key... It's shown by Winter trying to get in touch with anyone at all after kingdomwide comms went down (just before Ironwood arrived). Qrow at this point probably wasn't aware that comms went down early, and hasn't heard a single peep about how the evacuation effort has gone, he has no idea if they got out or not... So you can imagine his emotional state having seen Atlas crashing down...

Imagine her happiness but worry not finding ruby in the afterlife tho, the questions roaring thru her head only to be powerless to get any answers, its too cruel in my mind, like sure she knows ruby is alive but is she alright??
16:53 Jinn made it clear when she revealed to Ruby and her friends Ozpin's past with Salem that she has no loyalty or obligation to anyone or any cause in specific, only to whoever is using her Lamp and asking a question. She made it clear that her only purpose was to give knowledge, even if she's personally against it......
I love how Jinn did not seem to be worried at all when she seemingly noticed Neo in the background in "Witch", but the moment she lays eyes on Cinder Fall we see the first sights of genuine fear and sadness on the ancient spirit's face. You know Cinder is a threat when even nigh-omniscient magical spirits from the Gods are worried about her making use of their power.
@@TheGreater-ScopeVillain I didn't see fear. I think she was hesitant, because she liked Ruby and her team and didn't want to answer Cinder, but didn't have a choice. Also, she was said, because she knew, showing Cinder RWBY's plan will give her the best chance to beat them.
Two thoughts: 1. Qrow is going to think his family is dead and we all know he has such healthy coping mechanisms. 2. All the other chapter totals were single words, and in this case "The Final Word." that was spoken was "Checkmate".
Welcome to the club now. Despite everything that's happened, you are now officially caught up with the rest of us. All those times you spent asking "how do all of you wait a week between episodes", now you get to find out. By suffering those agonizing 7 days of uncertainty with us.
I wouldn’t want to be a Grimm in Vacuo right now, not after Winter lost both Penny and (in her mind, presumably) Weiss within a matter of minutes. She has a lot of inner turmoil and pain to burn off, and they’re clearly her targets. 2022 can’t get here soon enough, although they haven’t given us a start date yet.
Thing many people didn't realize in the sad moment of Penny's death, that her last wish was for Jaune to stab her to death so she could think of Winter to give her the powers. And he did. I am curious how he is gonna convey that to Ruby...
Worth pointing out every other episode this season has a one word title, so "the last word" has a double meaning, Cinder gets the last word, and it's "Checkmate"
I've cried A LOT watching this show, but this last volume broke me. These last two episodes destroyed me. I've watch the episodes many many times but hearing Blake screaming Yang's name in sheer horror still tear me up inside. I doubt I'll ever be able to watch that scene between Penny and Winter without choking. Can we all take a moment to aknowledge and applause Jaune's courage and resolve for going though with Penny's last wish, despite the extreme pain and trauma it must have caused him :(
To be honest, I skipped the video to where it was at the end credit scene. I was too afraid and broken to see what was going to happen because I already saw the entire volume. I just hope Volume 9 doesn't give us as much of a tearjerker like this one.
@@ketanmay8469 It would be great to have some happy times for a bit just to be able to let them breathe. I feel like it gets darker with each volume and giving the escalation of the plot I doubt it's going to be less intense...

During your intro I couldn't stop myself from tearing up bad, because of who you were holding and what you were saying, becuase I knew what was going... I was bracing myself for you retroactively since this is all past tense by the time this aires on YT!
Aw man when she cried when the song at the end said "Do hugs always make you feel this warm" my heart broke a little bit. I hope she will be okay. My first reaction to this to be honest I didn't cry but I did feel emotional to it. Also I hope she reacts to the volume 9 sneak peek.
Your one of a few people I see that understood Harriet, which I like a lot. Because she did love and/or care about Clover and they only had like 48 hours to process it. If the FNDM could be understanding about Jaune and how he was handling Phyra for maybe a few months I was kinda surprised about how people didn’t put that into perspective about Harriet. Also, I feel Salem knows Cinder was lying. But why care when your halfway to your goal of wiping out humanity. And the fact Salem’s lying about her goal to her underlings so that’s a thing to. And lastly, nobody hasn’t really brought this up at all. But With everyone and everything falling to that place, Penny’s body is there to. Just saying
People have no issue with her grieving... The problem is what she chose to do while grieving. Jaune used his grief as motivation to better himself and didn't really do anything wrong that we know about (although we didn't see the immediate fallout, so who knows?)... Hare went along with Ironwood, blamed the wrong people (which she kinda partly wouldn't know, but still), was kinda spiteful and then tried to blow up a load of civilians lol... I agree, people should probably be more sympathetic, but I don't blame people for being done with her either.
Now, it's a possibility that Salem knows Cinder is lying, and it's an equal possibility that Salem merely suspects but doesn't know precisely what Cinder has actually done, or that Cinder is just that good and her development as a villain in Volume 8 has enabled her to fly under Salem's radar. Whatever the case may be, it doesn't really matter. They both fully intend to betray the other in the end, but the fact remains that both Salem and Cinder still *_need_* each other. Salem needs Cinder due to Cinder's status as the Maiden vessel and "the key to [their] victory", and to make up the huge gap in strength that appeared in her faction since the betrayal/death of a good portion of them (partially by Cinder's own design). And Cinder needs Salem to help her obtain the power that she desires (both the powers of the Maidens _and_ the Relics); Salem's resources and power will help Cinder immensely in her quest until Cinder gains enough power to betray and overthrow Salem and take the world for her own. Both Cinder and Salem are willing to work with each other for now. The question is, however, whose usefulness will run out first, and who will be the first to strike when it does?
So, these 2 episodes... Destroyed me. I had not realized how invested I was in this show. Your initial reaction to Yang falling was me as well even more cuz Yang is my absolute fave. Having to wait a WEEK just being an emotional wreck to the point I had to talk with a friend all day to get under control again. I really appreciate you caught on Harriet's emotional state, doesn't excuse her actions but its real a case of "Hey bad things can happen if you don't have the time to properly deal with or talk about your emotions." But I will sum up so this isn't super long. Loved Ironwoods whole arc seeing how it comes apart and that last shred of a tear. Penny *sobs*. Cinders becomin embolden, killin Watts and lying to Salem's face. Just yeah I am eagerly awaiting Volume 9 and your reactions have been very entertaining so thanks for the ride~
Indeed. I love how Ironwood never realised who he was truly fighting all this time until it was too late; he had been so focused on Salem and Ruby's group that never even noticed Cinder until she had already made the final move and checkmated him right in front of his face. That was the moment in which Ironwood realised that he had truly lost. Cinder has recognised her recent mistakes, and is becoming more like the villain that she was throughout the first 3 Volumes. She wants it all, and she will not stop until she has defeated Salem and anyone else who would stand in her way of ultimate power, freedom and revenge.
My first thought when watching it was also the World Tree, Yggdrasil, from Norse mythology. The God of Light did pluck Ozma's soul from the afterlife to meet with him in what he described as "between realms". It is possible that this dimensional plane that Team RWBY, Jaune and Neo find themselves in could be the same or similar, perhaps even with a connection/window into the afterlife, where we might even see some familiar faces. If this place really is a nexus/core of creation that binds worlds/universes together, like Yggdrasil, then perhaps seizing control of it and manipulating it will become Cinder's ultimate endgame after she eventually learns of Team RWBY's survival.
I was so worried, having seen your connection to Penny I knew the finale would hit you hard. I know you appreciate her actions a lot, even if you hate her absence.
Harriet was blinded by her rage and grief at Clover's death, leading her to cling to that loyalty to Ironwood and Atlas that Clover always had. She knew that Clover would follow through to the bitter end, so that's what she tried to do. But thanks to her friends, Harriet was able to see the error of her ways and repent. She can work on redeeming herself in future Volumes.
@@TheGreater-ScopeVillain I didn't like Harriet, and she's still the only Ace Op I'm hesitant on trusting, but that scene got to me. Her VA KILLED it ._.
@@sidous471 Indeed she did. I’m pretty sure that Harriet is somewhat trustworthy now since she’s on the heroes’ side, though she’ll be overcome with guilt for what her actions have caused, which her friends will have to try and help her get through.
That's the first thing that I thought of when first watching it, yeah. The God of Light did pluck Ozma's soul from the afterlife to meet with him in what he described as "between realms". Loved your reaction no one really knows where the end credit scene is but I think it’s based off of the world tree I’m also excited to see how juane character progresses he already feels responsible for Pyrrha death and he literally just had to kill Penny and I find it interesting that it was juane that did it cause Pyrrha was who destroyed Penny in volume 3

I find it interesting that both Pyrrha and Jaune had to kill Penny on separate occasions due to the machinations of Cinder Fall. The Dark Maiden has now killed Penny twice. Apparently, not even those who have died and resurrected are safe from her, Ozpin could tell you that much.
Hi! I know this is ages too late and you'll probably never see this, but I just wanted to say thanks for being such a fun reactor! I've been bingeing your RWBY reactions recently, and they're a blast. Thank you for being awesome! ♥😄
Hope you'll do RWBY Chibi reactions (You'll need it after this...) and maybe RWBY: Fairy Tales reactions as well. Going through Volume 8 again with your reactions was just as tough, the crying started for me way before the finale since I knew.
@@dcaslick Actually, it kinda was. Small fires littered the room after Cinder slaughtered everyone in the command centre. Cinder had Ambrosius add even more flames to those she had created earlier, thus making the room impossible for Watts to escape, burning him alive.
Cinder used the rod of creation to burn Watts alive and grimm's sea path from the previous episodes opened the path that caused the creter to flood when he fell atlas. PS: there is already a teaser trailer for the ninth season
The green was just Ironwood's shot reflecting :) I really hope they won't let Ironwood survive somehow. He is half robot and Atlas became Atlantis, so swimming is not really an option for him. I wonder what Cinder really asked from Ambrosius, maybe to prison Watts into the Control Room or make it unbreakable or something. Cinder had to take care of Watts and Neo, to keep it a secret, she asked the final question. Maybe Salem knows what's going on, but she still needs Cinder as the Fall Maiden to get the Beacon relic.
There’s actually a very plausible argument for his survival, but I hope it doesn’t manifest lol. All he had to do was escape into the vault. Although he couldn’t close it, the inside seems to be an ever stretching plane of existence. But from what we saw, I don’t think he was able bodied enough for him to make it in there.
Wait hell no, after Cinder killed Ozpin in the vault, she unlocked the vault of fall, but it was a decoy. Then, in volume Ozpin made it clear, it hides crown somewhere hidden.
One of the things that amazes me the most about this volume is knowing that it was done during the peak of the pandemic, when CRWBY was working from home and with limited face-to-face contact with each other. It's really a miracle that everything came out as well as it did.
Well, you're finally caught up with the rest of us! No more desperately trying to hold back spoilers from us! As for the end scene, "Am I supposed to know this tree?" ... I don't think anyone knows... It doesn't look like any tree we've seen before, but Crescent Rose being there indicates that team RWBY + Jaune + Neo are, well, somewhere... I'm not even sure if it's on Remnant. Meanwhile, everyone else is now in Vacuo. If you haven't done so yet, now might be a good time to read the novels! ;)
With the end scene, it isnt anywhere you should know but if you recall a few episodes back (V8CH9: Witch), oscar mentioned an old story about "The Girl who fell through the world" and ended up in a new one whilst in the torture chamber. Many think this place rwby ended up in is linked to that old story. But no one actually knows yet as many old stories and myths have a basis of truth
We all needed a new tissue then... There is also RWBY: Fairy Tales, which just had it's second episode. Vol 9 is postponed until next year sometime. Gen:Lock season 2 just started again also, btw.
I have waited til I've seen all your reactions to up til now, just to walk this long, winding path thru your eyes. Now, welcome to the RWBYverse!!! Our shared tears & laughter is one..... And, like you, I can't wait for the next volume!!! Til then, I'll be around. Checking out your other content. 😎👍🌹❄❤
Congrats on catching up, it's been a fun ride. Can't wait for your RWBY Chibi reactions. It's gonna help to get some wholesomeness back, this season got dark.
CRWBY is fueled by our tears and I think the RWBY fandom is also. It is so good to get through all the events that are full of loss because it makes us feel better about them. Melissa, Penny will live in our hearts and on in Winter. This whole arc has been so eventful and lit that I think everyone enjoyed it. Penny made a final choice and made sure the power went to Winter, who would command it so well. Cinder has changed so much. Since Watts' savage monologue towards her, she realized she could win if she wasn't so quick to action and took time to be smart. She pleased Salem, (thinks) she killed Ruby and her team, (thinks) she was rid of Neo, and knows that Salem will give her a longer leash after this victory. Abt the after credit scene: We are calling it Wonderland because of the fairytale brought up by Oscar ,"The Girl That Fell Through The World" being an allusion to Alice in Wonderland. Jaune went through with Penny's death by stabbing her, ending it quickly and letting her choose the transfer of maiden powers. Her sword broke after. **The Volume 8 Soundtrack hasn't been released yet. We don't know when it will be. "Friend" is the only full song released. I would suggest reacting to the lyric video early to deal with the withdrawls.** (the song is also Penny's theme!!!!) Volume 9 is scheduled to be released early 2022 Yes RWBY Chibi! You need a prescription of it, STAT! One last thing: A short Volume 9 preview was released a few months ago that gives insight on "The Fall", you should watch it! P.S. Another reactor that recently watched through volume 8, David the Hooman loves Penny also and got a print of her put on his previously blank wall so now whenever we watch we see Penny Smiling.
I push play.... i see Melissa with a Penny Plushie... oh, this is gonna hurt like hell.. (I knew this before but like seeing her with the plushie was too much too soon...)
Melissa starts to cry in the 1st opening credits. Me: I think we will be seeing a reactor pass out today. Oh dear you are not ready. This finale was…rough. Ironwood’s selfishness in trying to save less and less resulted in not even able to save himself. And in his last moments for him to see those he was swearing to protect from smile at him showing he did EXACTLY what he wanted was an agonizing death. Yeah I was not even REMOTELY scared the team perished after they fell. The series can’t be called RWB and the story can’t handle their loss like that. It’s their story and main characters don’t die until the final volume. It is how narratives work. Penny…was not protected by that. And we will likely be seeing her body again unfortunately since it probably fell with the rest of them traumatizing the whole crew even more. And Jaune will NOT be having a good day as he is down there too to explain himself why he mercies Penny. So that’ll be fun. Jacque is dead. Sorry not sorry. If the evacuation had gone better he could have been retrieved. But he was such a contributor to Atlas falling it’s only right he goes down with it. Both he and Ironwood had already lost. At 1st I thought maybe it was a touch too soon for Watts to die, but it’s only fitting Cinder finds a way to reclaim what made her unsettling in the 1st volumes. Giving people hope, and then taking it all away. Luckily I was immediately reminded that Chris Sabbot had to go be the Symbol of Peace for MHA and knew he couldn’t stay in the story much longer anyway. Cinder…she has to die soon. She isn’t the main villain and I straight up don’t see her claiming more than 1 maiden power for herself even if it is her design to hold all 4. This bitch killed SO many in these episodes and she can’t be forgiven because of her childhood. She chose this. After her lying to Salem…yeah her days are numbered. She won today but she sure as hell won’t win again. And then there’s the ace ops. They all FINALLY came to their senses due to how fast things moved for them and they followed without question to ignore their growing uncomfortable feelings leading to the downfall of Vine who was the least emotional of the bunch. Harriet tucked it all down til she exploded. Although she can be brought back I don’t really want her to. She used her pain on everyone else so she didn’t get more and that’s all she got. Qrow screaming for Ruby over his earpiece in terror was beyond my most tortured part of this episode. I hate that Penny died, and it’s only going to get worse, but poor Qrow is getting worse and worse luck. He got scrapes with Clover’s badge, but I REALLY hope Robyn is there for him more. (Personally I think they should get together as much as Nora and Ren, but same reasons why they aren’t apply.) Most of next volume will be people reeling from the events of this one. Much like Volume 4 after Phyrra died. And once they recover, everyone will be that much stronger to face what is next.
I wouldn't be so sure. Cinder has won before with the Fall of Beacon, she's won again with the Fall of Atlas. Why shouldn't she be able to win again? If any villain was capable of doing so, it would be Cinder. I love how Ironwood never realised just who he was truly fighting all this time until it was too late; he had been so focused on Salem and Ruby's group that never even noticed Cinder until she had already made the final move and checkmated him right in front of his face. That was the moment in which Ironwood realised that he had truly lost. It makes sense for Watts to die, given that the technological kingdom of Atlas has fallen and there's much less technology around in Vacuo, but more importantly, Watts was, like Neo, a loose end that Cinder had to tie up in order to keep him from ratting her out to Salem for lying to her, and also to ensure that he would not get in the way of Cinder's greater plans to overthrow Salem and overtake the entire world. Cinder had planned Watts' death ever since she came up with the plan to win the war of Atlas in the wake of Salem's failure. It’s a possibility that Salem knows Cinder is lying, and it’s an equal possibility that Salem merely suspects but doesn't know precisely what Cinder has actually done, or that Cinder is just that good and her development as a villain in V8 had enabled her to fly under Salem’s radar. Whatever the case may be, it doesn't really matter. They both fully intend to betray the other in the end, but the fact remains that both Salem and Cinder still *_need_* each other. Salem needs Cinder due to Cinder’s status as the Maiden vessel and “the key to [their] victory", and to make up the huge gap in strength that appeared in her faction since the betrayal/death of a good portion of them (partially by Cinder’s own design). And Cinder needs Salem to help her obtain the power that she desires (both the powers of the Maidens _and_ the Relics); Salem’s resources and power will help Cinder immensely in her quest until Cinder gains enough power to betray and overthrow Salem. Both Cinder and Salem willing to work with each other for now. The question is, however, whose usefulness will run out first, and who will be the first to strike when it does? Also, regarding Jaune's Joan of Arc story, Joan of Arc was ultimately killed by being burned at the stake, which does not bode well for Jaune if he intends to go up against the main fire-user in the series: Cinder Fall. The same could apply to Salem, since Salem witches were also killed by fire at the stake, and we've all seen how effective fire is against Salem in "Witch". At least Jacques finally accepted that he had lost. The core of his character was that he was a man who desired to win above all else, so I really respected that moment with him when he admitted that he had lost.
I do not expect Cinder to die this early on in the story (at least not permanently, if my theory that Cinder could be an immortal turns out to be true). After all, Cinder is in fact one of the two main antagonists of RWBY alongside Salem. In fact, even though Salem is technically the "top" villain, at least for the time being, Cinder has always been kind of _the_ "main" villain. In many ways from our perspective, Cinder has been written as the main villain of the show because she's been written as one of the main *_characters_* throughout pretty much the entire series, which only adds even more intrigue to her character now that we have at least part of her backstory. Cinder has survived _far_ more than any other character in RWBY (besides perhaps Ozma, but he's lived for countless millennia so that's not really a fair comparison), with at least two climactic end-of-volume near-death experiences under her belt. I highly doubt that she is dying any time soon. Not until the end of the series as a whole if at all. I doubt there's a being in all of Remnant with more tenacity and relentlessness than Cinder. They're not going to have her survive through everything she already has survived only to fall so easily to Salem or anyone else. *_"I have come TOO FAR to be stopped by some TOY!"_* - Cinder Fall, Volume 7 finale Besides, Cinder is much too important to the story to die yet. She is, after all, up there with Salem as the main antagonist of RWBY, both of whom are possible candidates to be the final boss of the series. After all, Cinder has committed more atrocities than any of the other villains and continues to have more conflicts with the heroes than any of them, including Salem. Cinder also has by far and away the highest body count of any villain in the series; excluding the countless people who died across the world due to her machinations and speech in Volume 3, the Dark Maiden has _personally_ executed Rhodes, Watts, Amber, Vernal, Pyrrha, however-many-dozen citizens in the Ever After dimension, and even freakin’ _OZPIN_ himself (the latter in about a minute and without even breaking a sweat). Furthermore, Cinder has psychologically tormented many of the heroes in Volume 3, psychologically tormented Jaune in person during Volume 5, fatally impaled Weiss, tormented all the heroes with Team RWBY and Jaune’s apparent deaths at her hands in Volume 8, and was the one who planned and had carried out _BOTH_ of Penny Polendina’s deaths. Not to mention Cinder’s master plan at the end of Volume 8 (which took her less than an hour to come up with, by the way) resulted in the deaths of many many others as well as setting up a conflict between her and the Winter Maiden in Winter Schnee like the conflict she already has with the Spring Maiden in Raven Branwen. All these many conflicts - all the people who remain alive that have been hurt by Cinder, rather than Salem - still need to be resolved, and if Cinder is to die permanently, it most likely won't be until the end of the series nor at the hands of anyone other than Ruby. Also, Salem herself has openly stated to all her faction that Cinder is the key to their victory, so, at least for the foreseeable future, Salem still needs Cinder - Cinder’s the Black Queen to Salem's Black King.
@@TheGreater-ScopeVillain great reply! Genuinely wasn’t expecting it! I can’t really counter anything because I know a lot less basis and focus in RWBY and going entirely off of the arcs. I was going off of that Salem unlike AFO and Shigaraki don’t have a relationship. And Cinder can’t overthrow someone who’s literally immortal and can pull herself back from particles. But I guess we can also assume full Majin Buu for the end and destroy EVERYTHING of her all at once.
@@Kaempfdog Thanks, I appreciate that! I think that Cinder has a good chance of overthrowing Salem. After all, her plan is to obtain the powers of all four Maidens as well as those of the Relics. If Cinder succeeds in acquiring the powers of all the Maidens, she will essentially become Prime-Ozma, who as you may recall was able to overpower Salem in their fight and reduce her body to ashes at least once (the only reason Salem won in the end was because of her immortality regenerating her). But just like the heroes, Cinder doesn't need to kill Salem in order to beat her. Moreover, Cinder possesses a power which no one else does: the ability to siphon and absorb magic. If Cinder is able to break Salem's body down enough, she can theoretically siphon Salem's powers away little by little during the slow periods of regeneration -- Cinder could even freeze Salem's remains in ice to slow down the regeneration even further. Also, who knows, Cinder may even be an immortal herself and just not know it yet. After all, I have a theory that Cinder might have become immortal during Volumes 5/6, when she fell into that pool of water beneath the Vault of the Spring Maiden, a pool which I suspect to be the remnants of the God of Light's Fountain of Life -- the same Fountain which granted Salem her immortality in the episode immediately after. It would certainly explain Cinder's comment in Volume 5 upon seeing the Vault for the first time: *_"Hmm, it's certainly grander than Beacon's. I wonder what the extra effort was for."_* It would be interesting if Salem or someone else deals a fatal blow to Cinder, only to be shocked as Cinder regenerates her body completely with the revelation that she's immortal too, just like Salem. As for Salem herself, I don't think we'll get to the "destroying every part of her to kill her" stage, since I expect her to be redeemed in the end. The God of Light specifically stated that Salem must learn the importance of life and death in order for the curse of immortality to be lifted, and so at some point, Salem is going to have to finally accept that she was wrong and repent, and she can only really do that if she turns away from the side of evil. This is another reason why I suspect that Cinder will turn out to be the final antagonist of the entire series. I think in the end it might come down to everyone vs. Cinder Fall who's armed with the powers of all four Maidens and maybe a Relic or two. But who knows?
@@TheGreater-ScopeVillain I didn’t even put together that the design of the vault is identical to that of the god of light’s spring but underground. Also I’m pretty sure the Beacon one is also hidden and maybe the dark God’s spring. Or maybe the Vacuo one. Regardless the vaults we have seen are ALL designed in that shape actually.
I've known this breakdown was coming since you met Penny. I'm sorry Melissa, it hit us all hard, too. On the topic of "Production Babies" that's a term used in all movies, referring to children born to the families of the movie during the production of said movie.
I know this is a week late, but I just found out that Ambrosius (the dude genie in the staff) got his name from Merlin's last name! (As in THE Merlin, greatest wizard of all time) Ambrosius is actually the name of a British war leader from the 5th century who appeared in British ledgends in the 9th century. The writer who imagined up Merlin in his 12th century writings chose Merlin's last name from this Ambrosius. Thus his full name being Merlinus Ambrosius.
Until she and Winter inevitably become a part of Cinder when the Dark Maiden finally collects all of the Maiden powers. At least, that's what I expect will happen.
"You can only create, not destroy, but you wouldn't be destroying 'Penny', she's a soul. The mechanical parts are just extra." Ambrosius can make whatever he want, freely, like how he made the little looking-eye-glass thingy to inspect Penny further (and compliment her dad lol). So when he was concerned about Penny not having a complete body, they said to "get creative". What they asked of Ambrosius is to use the already existing machine parts of Penny to make a new version of her, leaving behind the soul. If the soul were to just be, that would kill Penny, so that's HIS problem, not RWBY's. New Penny is a creative endeavor by Ambrosius, and lives after RWBY creates the portals while her old self - what RWBY actually asked for - fades away. Hold up Atlas > Make Virus-Penny, Atlas-holding power fades away > Make portals, Virus-Penny fades away > Make fire, Portals fade away ouo)/ I'm sorry, but your suffering was delicious. And now you must wait with all of us... *sad souls*
Nope, no one has any idea where the hell they landed. But it might not be far fetched to say that it's where the gods went, when they left remnant. The relics were made by the gods, so it's reasonable to assume that they are still connected somehow
My first thought when watching it was the World Tree, Yggdrasil, from Norse mythology.

I wouldn't be so sure. Cinder was able to dodge the much faster lasers of Penny with relative ease, and even took the full, charged and concentrated power of the Winter Maiden combined with Penny's lasers directly for a prolonged period, and still her Aura did not break as it never has yet (the only exception being against Rhodes when she was only about 13, but even then hers was the last to go down), in comparison to Neo's Aura which got obliterated in an instant against a significantly weaker laser. So I doubt that Ironwood's cannon would've been much help against Cinder.
I actually got angry when Penny died again, i was like REALLY? Its just for the drama isn't it?! I was so angry at the writters for what i called lack of proper story telling, but the most i think about it, more felt like this second arc in her life was the better choice.
CRWBY just knows how to traumatise there viewers don’t they with v3 finale and this one god damn happy more light hearted moments to wtf just happened like these 2 chapters and one thing that I don’t many people pick when Cinder attacked penny with her grimm arm that was the first time penny has ever felt pain ever which god damn she’s been a human for like what 10mins and one of the last things she ever felt was pain and thank god there is RWBY chibi for everyone as a form of therapy for all of us anyway amazing reaction as always can’t wait for v9 to come out
God… I knew this one was going to be tough to watch… Penny was an amazing character and they gave her a much deserved redo for her character. Really great reactions all the way through
Welcome to Hiatus Hell with the rest of us. I know you probably finished in real time a while back, but now… well, no new uploads for a bit. Gosh I can’t even imagine how many new assets are going into this new season. I just want to shout out to Winter and Penny’s VAs this episode. They’re always a treat, but between Elizabeth’s angry growls and Taylor’s just sincere conviction… that goodbye scene is also just god tier voice work from both of them. I’m so excited for when the soundtrack comes out. Reckon it’ll be around the time the show comes back. Gotta love that James thought he was the hero of this story, that he was Salem’s true opponent, and in the end she doesn’t even acknowledge his existence. It was never about him, and he dies I think finally having realized this. The irony is kind of fantastic. Bye Ironwood. You were a fascinating antagonist.
I love how Ironwood never realised just who he was truly fighting all this time until it was too late; he had been so focused on Salem and Ruby's group that never even noticed Cinder until she had already made the final move and checkmated him right in front of his face. That was the moment in which Ironwood realised that he had truly lost.
I always felt really heartless the first time Penny died because in comparison with Pyrrha I didn't care that much, she was just a quirky robot. But this last two volumes made me care about her I could see her struggle with a lot of stuff and after all this, I can really see her as a person. The way she died too feel more horrifying and sad, and her song is the cherry at the top. Meaning, I am devastated.
Only the portal to Vacuo itself is a one-way thing. The other portals from Atlas to the dimension in-between can be freely entered and exited from. It's only specifically the portal to Vacuo that you can't go through more than once
No surprise, I’m just as much of a wreck as I was the first time. I feel just like you when it comes to Penny, I want to be mad cause I was worried about them bringing her back just to kill her again back in Volume 7, and that’s exactly what they did. But at the same time, we got so much more time with her than before Volume 3 and they expanded her so much. This is such a hard episode to watch, to the point where I haven’t watched any other reactions to it before this one. Just when you think you’re done crying, Atlas falls onto Mantle and you can’t help but cry again, especially when you see Qrow. No matter what happens next Volume, it’s definitely going to have some emotional fallout with what happened with Jaune and Penny, Neo and Ruby, and everyone on the Vacuo side. This has been a crazy year and I’m so glad you watched RWBY because this has become my favorite series of yours. So glad we have therapy to look forward to with Chibi coming soon.
You asked if Roman’s hat was a magic hat when Neo pulled the lamp out. No the hat isn’t, but the lamp is. Whenever Ruby or someone else clipped the lamp to their belt it would shrink. It would resize when they held it up.
There actually is speculation that the silver Eyed warriors are aware when made into Grimm because of the song that's sang in Latin when they killed the hound which basically translates over to the Hound telling them don't weep over having to kill him because he was suffering
And thus Atlas became Atlantis. I love how Salem doesn't even acknowledge Ironwood at the end there. He was never a threat to her and did most of the work for her.
Mans was like “notice me senpai” 😆

Ahh, she’s holding a Penny plushie in her hands, this will totally go well.
Yeah. *runs*
You were right about Ironwood.

*_"And that's checkmate."_* -- Cinder Fall
Just like in Volumes 1-3, we have Cinder just manipulating the hell out of *_everyone_* INCLUDING, potentially, Salem, and I LOVE to see it.
As Cinder herself said: *_"I want it ALL."_*
Now we can fully understand all the Cinder moments in the V8 Opening.
@@TheGreater-ScopeVillain Do you think Cinder will kill Emerald and Mercury for leaving her side? Joined Ozpin & Salem.
@@TheGreater-ScopeVillain Wow can't wait to see this dynamic, I feel bad for Emerald though cause she genuine loved Cinder 🥺
@@kingraplhmativo5178 Yeah, I agree.

They didn't know it was one way. So I imagine Ruby would have come back and gotten in touch with him.
@@noremac7216 That's a good idea as well!
When you hugged that Penny plush after what you saw what happened to Penny, I can only say, she was the best real girl.
Damn Straight!
Penny did believe that her very special first friend with the heart of gold fell to her death.
and when Ruby finds out what happened to Penny she will be devastated. Again.
I do not think Penny would regret her choice, because a huntress would know there really was not a choice to make. And Penny was a huntress.

Two thoughts:
1. Qrow is going to think his family is dead and we all know he has such healthy coping mechanisms.
2. All the other chapter totals were single words, and in this case "The Final Word." that was spoken was "Checkmate".
Its so great watching people feel the same anguish over the course of the volumes of RWBY as everyone else does on their first watch.
This whole volume, especially these last two episodes, destroyed us all
Unless you're a fan of the villains who just loves to see them succeed.
Episode 12: And nothing can go wrong
Episodes 13&14: Oh no, it all went wrong!!
Worth pointing out every other episode this season has a one word title, so "the last word" has a double meaning, Cinder gets the last word, and it's "Checkmate"
Indeed. Cinder also got the first word as well, funnily enough.
I saw that thumbnail of you with your penny shirt and plush and episode number and thought: ...oh no
I've cried A LOT watching this show, but this last volume broke me.

It's been a wild ride, you've always been my favorite rwby reactor!!!
SAme here!
God you guys look like she about to die...
oh....
If you had realized that Penny asked Juane to kill her I don't think you would have been able to finish your reaction.
Aw man when she cried when the song at the end said "Do hugs always make you feel this warm" my heart broke a little bit. I hope she will be okay. My first reaction to this to be honest I didn't cry but I did feel emotional to it. Also I hope she reacts to the volume 9 sneak peek.
Just seeing the thumbnail I know I'm going to cry....
As someone who loves Penny, sending a virtual hug your way.
I really appreciate you caught on Harriet's emotional state, doesn't excuse her actions but its real a case of "Hey bad things can happen if you don't have the time to properly deal with or talk about your emotions."
But I will sum up so this isn't super long.
She wants it all, and she will not stop until she has defeated Salem and anyone else who would stand in her way of ultimate power, freedom and revenge.
the thumbnail.... hoo boy😬
How often can you kill a character?
Rooster Teeth: YES
Indeed. Cinder Fall specifically has by *_far and away_* the highest onscreen body-count out of any other character in the entire series.
> branched portal place between realms
> there's a huge tree where they fell
Yggdrasil, the World Tree?
Welcome to the hiatus, join us in our suffering......
Oh no. I have been so anxious to see you catch up to the end of RWBY, but now that it's here...😢
Plushie Penny: “He he, I’m in danger”
There are 3 seasons of Rwby Chibi you can catch penny in one of them
"Where are they?"
They're in Helheim Forest, RWBY x Gaim crossover let's gogogoooooo
37:47
This could be shown to be Clover’s Luck still being up, but I like to think that the bomb stopped because of Qrow’s Misfortune.
43:32
What makes it even worse is that Jaune’s weapon is made of Pyrrah’s equipment...
This means that Pyrrah also killed Penny a second time...
If Puns of Damage is the Pyrrha of the reaction FNDM, Melissa you are our Penny
You're one of the only people I've seen that seemed really sympathetic of Harriet. You understood where she was coming from. I like that.
The tree is likely Yggdrasil.
Well, it looks like a Baobab tree, which would make it African, maybe Australian.
I get why Yggdrasil makes sense, but...
That's the first thing that I thought of when first watching it, yeah. The God of Light did pluck Ozma's soul from the afterlife to meet with him in what he described as "between realms". Love you Melissa, it's been a journey 💗💗💗

Aww, thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying them!!
Not the penny plushie 😭
Hope you'll do RWBY Chibi reactions (You'll need it after this...) and maybe RWBY: Fairy Tales reactions as well.
Going through Volume 8 again with your reactions was just as tough, the crying started for me way before the finale since I knew.
She's been watching both of those but right now only on Patreon
@@Scaring-Crows Ah okay, I'm not currently in a position to pay for Patreon content, hopefully those videos come to TH-cam one day.
when Cinder said the thing about the flames she lied to Salem, she killed Watts
She trapped Watts with fire. The room Watts had been in while having his fun definitely hadn’t been on fire before.
The green was just Ironwood's shot reflecting :)
I really hope they won't let Ironwood survive somehow.
Yeah and he was at the bottom of Atlas which hit first. Plus CRWBY confirmed his death
Wait hell no, after Cinder killed Ozpin in the vault, she unlocked the vault of fall, but it was a decoy. Then, in volume Ozpin made it clear, it hides crown somewhere hidden.
@@kingraplhmativo5178 Where in the world was that said?
These two episodes absolutely destroyed me, then again so did this entire volume tbh
One of the things that amazes me the most about this volume is knowing that it was done during the peak of the pandemic, when CRWBY was working from home and with limited face-to-face contact with each other. It's really a miracle that everything came out as well as it did.
Oh god. As soon as this video opened with you in a Penny shirt, holding a little Penny plushie, I knew it was gonna go bad.
S8 soundtrack day is gonna be some waterworks
Listen, without sounding like a sadist, I really enjoyed those full body sobs. Cause gotdamn it got me too. Full body sobs over penny!
At least take comfort in the fact that no one can derive as much enjoyment out of people's suffering over Penny than Cinder Fall can.
If you haven't done so yet, now might be a good time to read the novels! ;)
JUST started the Video and I see her Wearing the Penny Shirt and holding the Penny Doll .. Oh God! This is GONNA HURT!!
Got RWBY, Jaune, and Neo down there now!
I feel like a lot of folks miss that like 10 people were knocked off by Cinder's attack too
Indeed. Cinder Fall has by *_far and away_* the highest onscreen body-count out of any other character in the entire series.
We all needed a new tissue then...
There is also RWBY: Fairy Tales, which just had it's second episode.
Vol 9 is postponed until next year sometime. Gen:Lock season 2 just started again also, btw.
I knew that your reaction do penny would be good but oh my lord. You just served us.
Here we go
CRWBY is fueled by our tears and I think the RWBY fandom is also.
I would suggest reacting to the lyric video early to deal with the withdrawls.** (the song is also Penny's theme!!!!)
Volume 9 is scheduled to be released early 2022
Yes RWBY Chibi!
(Personally I think they should get together as much as Nora and Ren, but same reasons why they aren’t apply.)
Most of next volume will be people reeling from the events of this one.
*_"I have come TOO FAR to be stopped by some TOY!"_* - Cinder Fall, Volume 7 finale
Besides, Cinder is much too important to the story to die yet.
I wonder what the extra effort was for."_*
It would be interesting if Salem or someone else deals a fatal blow to Cinder, only to be shocked as Cinder regenerates her body completely with the revelation that she's immortal too, just like Salem.
53:07 best part of the whole reaction
Hi Melissa !! Sorry you've had to witness this but hopefully you recovered in those past couple months
You had by far the most emotional reaction to Jacques' death of any reactor or commenter. By which I mean you had one.
It comes in three’s part II.
Even In death, may she be triumphant.
We will miss her, we will remember her, and we will always love her for who she chose to be. 😔
Hold up Atlas > Make Virus-Penny, Atlas-holding power fades away > Make portals, Virus-Penny fades away > Make fire, Portals fade away
ouo)/ I'm sorry, but your suffering was delicious. And now you must wait with all of us... *sad souls*
I usually lose it at, “You were my friend.” Also, I looked up ‘ugly crying’ in the dictionary and…etc etc…
I almost didn't even wanna watch this one, cause I knew how much Melissa loves penny :(
Do not worry about not knowing where they are, I don't recognize the tree but lots of people think they they know.

Atlas became Atlantis
Ironwood and his hand cannon would be helpful against Cinder if he would actually use it against her and not RWBY.
CRWBY just knows how to traumatise there viewers don’t they with v3 finale and this one god damn happy more light hearted moments to wtf just happened like these 2 chapters and one thing that I don’t many people pick when Cinder attacked penny with her grimm arm that was the first time penny has ever felt pain ever which god damn she’s been a human for like what 10mins and one of the last things she ever felt was pain and thank god there is RWBY chibi for everyone as a form of therapy for all of us anyway amazing reaction as always can’t wait for v9 to come out
*_"Darkness like MIDNIGHT,"_* Destiny is cruel to Cinder Fall's opponents indeed.
I don't know who Cinder thinks she's kidding. Salem's a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them.
After I finished the finale, the first thing I told my mom was
"Well... At least Penny's Christmas themed now..?"
you are so sweet. what a sad, but great finale! thank you for the reaction!
I binge watched the whole series in a week. I'm angry, sad, but overall I'm hyped as hell for the next volume!
I have no idea what that place is lol
Guess we'll find out.
When I saw Penny plushie i was literally screaming "NOOOO!"
there was a teaser released recently for the next season
Im actually genuinely laughing and crying at the same time seeing her reaction, what is going on with me
Just finished watching the ENTIRE Rwby reaction from ya!
I just hope Volume 9 will release very soon, we still haven’t seen what Shade Academy looks like.
What happened to Maria & penny's father
Ironwood thought he was playing against Salem, but was blinded by Cinders actions, so lost to Cinder. Never even comimg closs to his goal.
