Perry recently had a lawsuit against Cain and Schon over copyright issues. Perry dropped the lawsuit after Schon and Cain started having the conflict over the credit card.
No, Perry was the control dreak. He can't sing the difficult songs anymore. He tried to launch his solo career 2 times but failed. I have to hand it to Perry, he manuevered Cain and Schon give him 50% of the net profits!
Neals wife Michelle is the Yoko Ono of Journey. She has always been trouble before she came into the the Journey picture. Good luck Neal, its either her or your band, thats what its going to boil down to.
Soooooo let’s go back to 1997 when Steve Perry was doing a interview with GMA and blatantly said.. “it’s unbearable to work with Neil anymore, always has been
I like Neal Shon. I was in a wheelchair for the Indy concert several years ago when I was undergoing chemo. He saw me and made sure that I got his guitar pick.
I mean while I can respect that and it's truly a nice gesture I really could see him being a complete another nightmare to work with a complete egomaniac. Of course on my part that's just conjecture I'm just some random that actually Journeys a bit before my Arab but that doesn't mean I'm unaware of them and their songs and I like a couple but not really most of them to be honest. Point being just because he gave you a guitar pick doesn't mean he's a good person, in situations like that I often wonder if he didn't have an audience there to give him adoration for that move would he have still done it?
Schon is Journey for Christs sake.. And knowing Cain and his wife were part of the movement to destroy Democracy makes me humongously biased against him..
I am sure that Neal is a very warm-hearted individual. We all have to realize that business is business sometimes it gets nasty. Just like our lives sometimes it's good sometimes it's not so good. Now I wish Steve Perry would come back and they can become journey everybody teases me know that's not going to happen well I always go back to I Don't stop believin.
Since he got with that real housewives lady who’s all plastic. I can’t stand those fake housewives shows. So fake and all Karen’s barking at each other every episode 😂
After years of Perry telling us exactly what a control freak Neil is and years of “oh no that’s not true” clearly shows the Neil is a control freak! And Neil was the reason Perry left.
Perry left because he had a hip injury and was conflicted on getting a major surgery schon told him to either get the surgery or we're firing you and replacing you. Perry said that schon had no right to pressure him into something that personal and that major, so he said fuck it and quit for good
This guy is right “no one wins” but Neal Schon never sued anyone or became such a venomous a guy until after he married the White House Crashing “Real Housewife of Any Rich Guy I Can Get My Hands On” …now? he and his wife sue anyone that looks at them wrong…Live Nation, Arena Security Guards, The City of San Francisco, his own bandmates?!??? Just really sad and shameful they’ve been my favorite bands for years :(
Man, you hit the nail square on the head!!! I just wish Neal could see the truth, and not be so damned whipped. "Any rich guy I can get my hands on" is the truth if it's ever been spoken!!!
@@mitymac no she was married to some rich douche named Tareq Salahi. And Neal is only her second husband, not her fifth. But yeah, his attitude seemed to change after they got married. But then again, so did Jonathan's - after he wed that charlatan, Paula White and became "a born again Christian". They're THEE worst kind of Christians.
@@mitymac she was married! She ran off with Neal and then officially divorced her husband for Neal. Neal had just got married as well and quickly divorced his wife for her. Wikipedia conveniently leaves that out. I am a fan of Arnel but not Journey( at least not anymore. )
I think perry saw this happening all before it did... the 90s. Then made that unbelievable contract to perfect his interest and future. Such a contract would never made today. It's equivalent to reeves deciding he didn't want a salary for the matrix, instead he want a percentage of the matrix revenue, it was like investing in Microsoft before mircrosoft was even known. Perry, knowing he was responsible for all those songs that made journey the biggest band in musical history, protected himself and his hard work by continuing to receive financial compensation without having to tour. He in a sense retired without really rehiring from journey, he makes like 30 percent when journey tours. And he still must be included in all business decisions as it is he, schon and cain who own the journey name and legacy. Such a contract would never be made today. Perry was smart, he knew the deal and of course he makes music on his own terms now when he feels like it. It's not for any want or need only the passion that drives him. And whether he had that voice that had all of us dropping to our knees back in 84 or not has little to do with his decision to remain off the grid. Watching a babd you loved emplode is not easy to do but I'm sure now ss he sees it with his own eyes he knew he was right to leave back when they made trial by fire. He knew that this day would come, even begged them to let journey rest, keeping making music don't not under journeys name. He is right and all of this proves it. So sad, the 80s are over and so is the greatest band in musical history 😢😢😢😢😢
I respect Neal greatly, but he needs to come back down to earth, as well as getting ahold of his wife. She has NO BUSINESS in the workings of Journey or any of it's members, PERIOD!! Sounds like Neal is completely whipped, and that's not good for any man!!Get her out of the bands business!!!! I will believe John above anyone. Seems Neal is suffering from a massive ego problem these days. He's hasn't been the quiet and very humble guitar player for quite a while now. They all owe Arnel everything for bringing them back from the utter dead. They should be extremely thankful to be in the position they are today!!
So glad to have seen them on the Escape tour in 1981 before all the cuckoo for cocoa puffs nonsense between Schon and Cain and their respective spouses. Steve Perry was absolutely spot on in leaving them and gets a percentage of the Journey money without performing at all.
A lot of the problem Steve Perry had was when the rest of the band demanded that he get hip surgery and go back on tour right after surgery. To him, surgery was a personal decision not a band decision.
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle The kind of hip surgery that he had to have was not something a person could just bounce right back from like the band expected him to.
Its just SUCH a bummer! I used to live Close to Schon and a few people in the Journey circle would tell me horror stories. Now- I wasnt ever there around him so its all hearsay- but he was a massive annoyance on social media a few years back with opinions of his. Could we all just get back to the MUSIC?
I lived in Mill Valley & San Rafael 1968-1985; saw/heard lots o great music! 1980 Drove taxi, had a call way up Mt. Tam. Arrived @ bottom of at least 100 steps, to find an unattended Mesa Boogie amplifier. Then bounding down the steps came Craig Chacico, guitarist fot Jefferson Starship! He was going to the Porsche dealer to p/up his car, after it was serviced. Nice guy, tipped well.. In 70's was driving through the San Rafael canal district, & noticed bunch of BMW's, which Grateful Dead members were known to drive, outside a warehouse with door open a couple feet @ the bottom, & familiar music emanating from within. I ducked under & walked right in to a practice, & stayed for an hour, watching them work on new music, til some roadie/security figured out I wasn't with the band.. Also 70's, hiked up Fairfax side of Mt. Tam, & just as we got to the top, & walked around to side facing Mill Valley, an incredibly loud solo guitar-only, unmistakably Carlos Santana came pealing up the side of the mountain! Played about 20 minutes, then trailed off.. Had a few other brushes, but those were the best..
Journey lost its soul when Steve Perry left; Schon was only half of the band's foundation, and he's done nothing but alienate the other past members except for Gregg Rolie, who left for his own reasons.
To some degree thats true…. But hey I see GNR with AXL now adays and its not the same. Perry left initially because he could not sing as he use to and that was 2 decades ago. Unless you been on a tour spot singing not cutting it.
Neal Schon is a great guitarist and has been a huge influence in my playing, but it seems over the years that he is always right in the middle of all the drama. Never a bystander. And now Arnel seems to have had enough. This in-fighting takes away from their legacy as far as I’m concerned. Good for Steve Perry for walking away when he did. He’s the only one who remains untarnished in my view.
@@roxannemoser You know what phuck u, greg, Ross, Neil and Dunbar were about to implode had not herb fixed Perry in, so, Neil s the lucky and talented one since he and pre Perry Journey couldnt make a legend of themselves by their own merit. Get your facts straight. Phuck Neil schon.
You know what? I personally sacrificed a lot of my life writing recording performing live in the Rock bands I was a vocalist for. Always Independent. So that we had the control of our destiny. I have been blessed with the opportunity to preform music for thousands of people. I gave the crowd all they wanted. I had the opportunity to let fans forget about their daily lives, relax, let go, have fun, and let their emotions go. That for me is everything. I know it’s a business. However, how selfish can these mega rockstars be so damn selfish? IF YOU ARE NOT HAVING FUN ANYMORE ON STAGE OR LIVING YOUR ROCKSTAR LIFE…THEN ITS TIME TO HANG IT UP! IF NOT…WELL THEN YOU ARE BASICALLY RAISING A MIDDLE FINGER TO ALL OF YOUR FANS.
Steve Perry was vocal in the band’s retrospective that he felt that the band Journey should retire without him. Start a new band, but leave Journey and what we’ve accomplished together alone. They really should have listened !
"what we’ve accomplished together alone"... i think that sums it up, or should I say I alone summed up what we did together...... not confusing at all huh
@@synthonaplinth5980 Yes he did Street Talk in 1984, after Neal had released 2 albums of his own, even though Herbie told Neal not to do it because it would leave the door wide open for Steve to do his own album, which is exactly what happened and it unlike Neal’s album’s was very successful. So much so they are still playing songs off Street Talk today and as for Steve getting royalty’s still today of 12%, I think that’s fair because Steve is named on so many Journey songs as a co-writer, songs that were made famous while Steve was still with Journey. I just think Steve is a very good businessman, who shuts his mouth and doesn’t make waves and Neal has said on more than one occasion it was Steve who bought all the fame for Journey,so I reckon he deserves what he gets.🇦🇺😘
This is what happens when too many exploding egos share a stage. Drama, drama. If Arnel was smart, he would run for the hills and go out on his own, away from these clowns.
@@doctorfeinstone6524 I was thinking of that too. When they met, Perry told Arnel to call him anytime. They can have Steve Smith, and Ross Valory back, if Deen wants to join them why not(not sure though if he is a Schon guy), and maybe Jon Cain if the beef between him and Neal is irreconcilable. That makes up a significant but old band.
He is a simple guy. Tbh, he seems set to live a simple life in the PH with wife and kids. He had one hell of a ride and best dream come true. I bet if he is not under contract, he’d get out in no time. However he has asked to be fired. Sad.
That little money is about 1.1 Billion if converted to Philippine peso if Journey boys will shoooo him away he will have enough time counting, not bad for a hired gun as some called him that way..
@@banditdarval9401So? Doing it well, as a respectable musician. Whadayou got? I've been in both original & cover bands. I now play mostly covers every week in churches, with excellent players, & it's really good, it's very rewarding, & people overtly appreciate it! So get off your false hi-horse!
First they blamed Steve Perry and maybe there was something to it. Either way it's ridiculous,as grown men, they can't work this out. Now someone throws Arnel under the bus. I'm sure he's not perfect but he saved the band and is all about charity in the Philippines, which is probably not a tax write off. Meaning, he just wants to help those people. Who else does that? Probably not many.
Some tried to blame the girlfriend or blamed Steve for leaving. Personally I always felt Steve was pretty level headed, ambitious yes but not a greedy or selfish person. Neil on the other hand has always been a different story & even Jonathan to a degree. I really think Jonathan tried to mend things so Steve would return but I think we're seeing the reason he hasn't & won't. Toxic people aren't good for anyone even if it comes in waves. Neil has always seemed like a bit of an ass
and his like 20 minute self indulgent stupid solos.... Sorry not a George Lynch or Steve Vai or others of that caliber to warrant a 15 to 20 minute j off session and once again if not for Perry we probably would not be discussing this at all.
Saw Journey in 2001 with Steve Augeri fronting the band. I got the vibe that Schon's ego demanded attention. Every few songs Augeri would announce "Neil Schon!" And point to his side of the stage and Neil would do a quick solo. It just seemed a bit much.
What is the main reason that any band splits up? It is ego. There seems to be some of that in play here. One person thinking they are better than another person opens the door to all manner of distrustful and dishonest behavior. Having two or more inflated ego's clashing and things get much worse, all hell breaks loose. It may be the most difficult problem the individuals and the band as a whole must face. I'd like to see this group find some reconciliation and understanding. They are, of course, legendary, and it would suck for them to go down leaving such a bad taste in everyone's mouths.
Before this Billboard article, I sort of thought Cain and his wife might have been the issue specifically with regards to the lawsuit Schon filed (given White's evangelical grifting). But I really didn't know until this article (I don't follow every detail of these bands like some folks do) that Schon is 10 years married to that known manipulator Michaele Ann Holt (who is probably worst of a grifter than Paula White). I don't care for Cain's politics, BUT from all accounts including radio vet John Beaudin, Cain is at least really nice and pleasant to talk with so long as you ask him to keep politics out of it (which he does respect). This is the complete opposite of what you hear regarding Neal Schon (including additional anecdotes in this article). And his piece of work wife is at the center of this (getting into the bands business); I'm now more inclined to believe Cain's account of the AMEX account abuse by Schon and his wife racking up personal charges on it.
Nicely said but this is a bit different in my book.. one iota of support for trump is supporting the fall of democracy,, This isn’t really debatable if you’re keeping up with the news.. Schon might be a control freak in band but isn’t he the only original guy left?
I 100% agree! Everyone does remember who Neal Schon's wife was married to and snuck into the White House party with. She is a bottom feeder and most likely the source of the problem. Tells me a lot about Schon as his judgement shows zero class. Sad because they used to be my favorite band but I may just pass this time around.
@Betty Wallace he has to say that so people will actually continue to purchase tickets and go to their concerts. There's still an ongoing lawsuit between him and Schon. The two definitely don't seem "unified", and haven't been for quite some time.
When making the kinda money they make and the money they will loose if they cancel because the shows are for sure under contract they will be at that show.
Herbie Herbert was the founder, their original manager! He formed Journey & like Walt Disney made a dream come true. As the paranoia continues Neal Schon needs to lay off speed! My friend was backstage years ago & saw him talking with his suppliers from the Hells Angels giving him his fix! Steve Perry is smart not to be around all this garbage.
How many years ago was that where Neal had to get drugs from bikers?? Back in '78??? Are the Hells Angels even around anymore? I'm sure if Neal has to "get his fix" these days, it won't be from some grubby biker!
@@detroitdiezel7856 well my friend saw him talking with them & she couldn't believe her eyes & what she saw a long with her date! He told the 2 men he would chat later & not now! Even the rich go to trashy people
Wow, more of an idiot than I previously thought! Drugs will make you behave like an ass, & mess up your playing: hence, 20 minute self-indulgent solos!
Yes I’m a Journey fan from way back and so I'm just going to say it from where I'm sitting, Journey could do no wrong back in late 70's and 80's and even The Trial by Fire Album in 1997, was a fine Album. Now having said that, I've always felt most of Neals solos were to long. Not knocking his guitar work, he is a genius when it comes to that. However Neal is not and has never been the sharpest nail in the tool box, he shy's away from having to do the things that are hard and he has been using Jon for years, if anyone needs to be told, or someone has to be told something not pleasant. He just sits there hugging his Guitar. The minute I heard his wife was getting involved in the legal and workings of Journey, I knew there was go to be trouble and I said so on different channels, there is alway trouble when the wives get involved and boy are they in trouble now .Neal has said in more than 1 interview that it was Steve who had bought all the success to the band . Thats true but Steve is a very smart man who is not going to get involved in the shit show Journey is today. The people I feel most for in all of this is Arnel and Dean, they don't know most of the time whether they’ve got a Gig in the next town or not and they work their arses off in every show. I don't really even blame Jon for much of this but he's been put in a place where he had defend himself yet again and he's as dedicated to Journey every bit as much as Neal and maybe even more. If Neal does not shut his wife up, he wants to be careful because his beloved Journey will be no more and he'll be standing up on that stage alone hugging his Guitar. Just saying. 🤷♀️
@Forrest...Wow! Incredible overview. Thank you for your very incitfull comment. I agree 100% with all you spoke about, being a long time Journey fan myself. Life is waaaay too short for all of this unnecessary heartache....let it go, let bygones be bygones, play on and enjoy or hang it up boys!
Neil Schon’s wife is analogous to Yoko Ono, except worse. Besides being a terrible person in her own rite, she also brings out the worst in Neal. At this point, I would not mind having Journey’s lineup be Steve Perry, Jonathan Caine, Ross Valory, Steve Smith, and Steve Vai instead of Neil Schon. Neil can go do his Journey Through Time or whatever he wants to call his solo act or perhaps form a new version of Bad English with John Waite, Dean Castronovo, Greg Rollie, and Randy Jackson.
@@stevenpeltier1376 You do know she’s the one who with her husband at the time was the one who either tried or got into a White House reception. It was all over the news at the time. So yes your right she is worse than Yoko, at least for all her stupidity she did love John. I’ve got a feeling and I could be very wrong but I can’t get this feeling out of my mind, that Neal is frightened this marriage is going down the toilet like all the other’s,so he’s just going too let her run with the ball. I could be totally wrong but I can’t help wondering how much he’s letting her do as she pleases just to keep her sweet.
@@donellefeltham yes I do know who she is. There are some guys in my company that fall victim to the same thing as Neal Schon. They get married and the next thing you know whatever bad traits that guy had are now amplified and then the wife starts putting crazy ideas in their head. I saw Journey with Arnel just prior to Covid. He was a really nice guy and does a good job of trying to sing like Steve Perry. Still, I couldn’t look at him on stage because it made feel like I was watching Karaoke. I thought it was just me, having spent a substantially amount of time in the Phillpines, Japan, and that part of the world but other concert goers made similar comments to me without me even asking and I didn’t even know those people. I also noticed during the concert that Neal was intent on making everything about himself whereas Jonathan Caine was about giving fans what they wanted. I completely understand Journey moving on from Steve Perry after he was stringing them along with not getting surgery and basically sabotaging their momentum after recording Trial By Fire. That was so ridiculous for Steve to do. With insane concert ticket prices these days, fans deserve better. Journey just played in my city last weekend. I didn’t go. Between the drama and apparent firing of Ross and all these other issues in addition to ridiculous prices, it just wasn’t worth it.
I'm one of the new Journey fans. May God bless this band some more. Their songs are like gospel to me. The titles alone speak volumes. "FAITHFULLY," "DON'T STOP BELIEVING."
I’ve been reading and watching lots of videos lately of the journey drama and even some from when Steve Perry left and it always seems to circle back to Neal Schon. When you look at the major hits Journey has had had Perry and Cain have written the majority of them, yet Neal continues saying,it’s my band. What Schon seems to forget is a band is many parts and he’s NEVER been the lead singer. Honestly Journey could probably get rid of Schon and get a guitarist just as good or better these days. I know some people think Schon deserves all the accolades but I think his ego and behavior make him a jerk. Oh and his wife is a social climber. I’m sure if someone came along with more money she’d dump Schon in a heartbeat. Schon is like the emotional teenager he was when he joined Santana. Grow up! I do wish Steve would spill the beans, because there seems to be more to leaving the band than his mental health and drug or alcohol abuse, which I’m not discrediting. All that being said, I saw Journey in the late 80’s when Randy Jackson toured with them and they were so good I purchased another ticket to see them one more time and I’ve never done that.
Neal actually has sang lead on a few songs. Do some homework before you open up your stupid yap. And he's the ONLY remaining original member, so yeah... he definitely has the right to call it "his" band. He's earned it. He's been the only remaining constant for 50 years and he's a guitar virtuoso. So without Mr. Schon, there would be no Journey. If anyone sounds like a whiny teenager, it's you Snowflake!
Its Neal Schonns band, plain and simple. He founded it, he's been there since day 1, and he's hired every guy in the band. It doesn't matter if Cain wrote a lot of hits, he could go perform them solo. Journey is Neal Schonns personal property.
All these bands act like babies , look at the ridiculous feud Roger Waters and David Gilmore have. It's been going on for 35 years , these guys are in their 70's and are fighting like children on Twitter. I mean at this point does it even matter , they're irrelevant now like Journey...🙄
@@mikeg6666 At this point, when its only one original member, the guy who founded the band in the first place, hired every member, and been through every up and down, why would Schonn give any power to anybody. Cain is great, he wrote some songs, but he would be nothing without Journey as his vehicle. Its not Cains band. he was a replacement keyboardist for an already majorly successful band.
@@klaws32 I get that but at this point does anyone really care , their glory days are over. I wasn't a fan but Steve Perry had a great voice and once he left it was over for them IMO!✌️
We just saw them on 3/3 in State College and the stage performance was very good. Not sure about what goes on backstage, but the on stage looked like they were in sync and wanted to put on the best show for the fans.
Steve Perry IS Journey, period. I will NEVER watch them, live, EVER, unless Steve returns. Their front singer will never take his place. Journey is dead to me.
Ok, you hold your breath for Perry to return to Journey, while I hold mine until Mark Farner is welcomed back to Grand Funk Railroad. Ready? 1, 2, 3.....
@@richboutin4044Thanx for updating those late comers! I was a fan of Rolie, & later, Schon when they were in Santana. I Was at Fillmore West, June 1968, when Santana opened;& Chicago Transit Authority followed, a year before either had an album; & headliner was Big Brother & The Holding Co.with Janis Joplin! Little known fact: Chicago's drummer wasn't able play, so Santana's drummer, Michael Shreve played their set brilliantly! I can still play all that music in my head, & it sounds like I'm standing there!
Let's hope Toto can mediate this. Luke is close to both Neil and Jonathan and to a lesser extent Greg) He has gone through such issues himself (although not very sucessful). Fingers crossed they do not throw their legacy down the dumpster.
Now the truth comes out. I had a feeling Neal Schon’s ego was causing chaos and dysfunction in the band. He needs to keep his ego in check. He’s trouble for the band as far as I can see. Jonathan & Steve are great easy going guys dripping with talent & creativity. I think schon’s ego needs to be put in check.
The common denominator is ALL of Journey's revolving door of musicians since the band's inception is; Neil Schon! The 800 pound gorilla in the room is and has always been; Steve Perry, (no one would even remember Journey if it weren't for Perry) who also acts like a diva... but his unique talent warranted his arrogance, that's not the case with Schon. Yes people can copy Perry pretty well, including Arnel and Deen, (both can actually sing Journey parts better than Perry at this point) but neither created the parts that made those songs great, Perry did. Perry did push several Journey members out of Journey (Dunbar, Rollie, Smith, and Valory) and Schon let it all happen which IMO says a lot about Schon's lack of character. As soon as Perry quit Schon started trying to recreate the magic with a band called The Storm, which had a Perry sound-a-like singer, which failed. Schon went to Bad English which had limited success but it was short lived. When Schon found Arnel he formed a Journey cover band, billed as "Journey", that still exists to this day. But the problems between the members continued long after Perry left and the common denominator is Schon.
Was Van Halen with Hagar a cover band?? Asking for a friend. Also since Ozzy left Black Sabbath with your logic Dio with Black Sabbath is a cover band.
Journey got back together in the late 90's with all of the classic era members minus Perry and Smith. Back then, they had Steve Augeri in the lead. They worked and toured poor Augeri to death until his voice was almost completely shot which was around the late 2000's. When Augeri could no longer sing anymore, they kicked him out and replaced him with Arnel and have been going with him ever since. Now rumor has it that even arnel is getting exhausted
@@doctorfeinstone6524 anyone would be exhausted. Arnel being the longest running vocal, can’t blame him. 15 yrs. And tbh, he’s getting up there in age but I feel the drama is what he’s exhausted about more than anything. With Neal or wife, or both trying to bring him into the dirt that he wants nothing of. He’s been quiet until Twitter attacks from the wife came for him, which he didn’t appreciate one bit.
Dude, what are you smoking? Neal was never in The Storm, the guitar player was a guy named Josh Ramos. The Storm was formed in the early nineties, Bad English was formed in 1987.
Saw Journey the only time when they toured in Australia in support of Deep purple over 10 years ago they were great but now I will just to to their classic period and would not waste money buying a ticket now
I've been a big Journey fan for many, many years. This situation is sad and downright embarrassing not just for the band in the public eye, but for fans and all that are exposed to this. Neal, as talented as he is, seems to have issues with e v e r y o n e and really comes across as a toxic element in many of these fronts. I don't personally know Arnel, but as I understand from those who know him well, he's a very nice, down-to-earth, still humble, drama-free individual and the situation has managed to piss him off too, to the point of him (Arnel) having to make a public statement (via tweet). It's very sad it's come to this. I hope they're able to somehow work things out amongst themselves before tarnishing and downright destroying the legacy of such an amazing band. Best of luck to all of them.
Well, I WAS, but IMO trying to push Perry into surgery and then ditching one of the most iconic frontman in rock, as well as cowriter of major hits (including the Grammy nominated "When You Love A Woman") always struck me as insane. Well, OK, Schon & Cain roll on with their filler singers, and a lot of the audience is happy enough. But it's weird, it's like Perry took the light with him. Perry had fretted around ROR about becoming "another fading rock band" and now that seems not just prescient, it's worse. IMO this isn't "Journey" at all - unbelievably Valory and Smith are gone, and Rolie probably showed up because of Schon - but that's it. It's like the Neal Schon show with whoever is under contract, with plenty of guitar solos stuffed in. And has anyone asked Schon if he is using a lot of alcohol e.g. the hard driving bad boy thing? Because long term alcohol abuse can lead to erratic behavior, being hypercontrolling, failed relationships, paranoia, feelings of grandiosity even if supposedly functioning, and an enabling partner. If I were a friend of Schon's it'd be worth asking the question. You can't party all night at these guys age. I don't KNOW that's the case or what Schon does on his days off, but nobody ever seems to ask what's going on with these bands physically unless someone keels over onstage.
@@twilitetide Arnel is a really nice humble guy, I can listen to him sing but I find it very hard to watch him on stage, I know he’s doing the best job he can. However I think his over the top performance’s are aimed at pleasing Neal. To be honest, I think it’s a shame, Neal should have told him, mate slow down I’ve got your back but he didn’t and worked him like a dog, fully knowing that eventually Arnel would pay the price of his voice becoming toast and that’s what has happened. I’m not saying he can’t sing anymore, he can but he’s singed around the corner’s and I feel for him and I don’t think he’s got the recognition he deserves. Although I do think Steve did his absolute best at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame award’s too try to make sure Arnel was included and recognised for working his arse off for Journey. Personally I don’t think Steve will ever sing with Journey again, Steve is an honourable man and I think there was a lot more than just his hip, that led to him bowing out of Journey. He’s even said as much in interviews he did for Traces. He said there was a lot of partying and and other substances going on. I don’t think Steve wanted to be around that , just to keep going, so I think even if he hadn’t done his hip in he would would have bowed out. No one seems to want to know about what Steve was going through, even on The Raised On Radio Tour, when Steve lost his Mother and it’s no secret how close they were. Steve would have been devastated even though he knew she was very ill by this time but I think and this is only my thoughts Steve needed to grieve for her and I don’t think the other’s could comprehend this and had the attitude, come on get back on the road that’ll help you. No it wouldn’t help not Steve anyway. As I said these are only my thoughts do I know this for sure, no I don’t but the the clue’s are there.
@@donellefeltham I've been thinking about this lately. What weighed heavily was the heavy blow and beating he received on his back. Not just Steve, but all the vocalists so far and I hope nothing happens to Arnel, I'm worried about him. He's being squeezed to the last drop.
@ You’re absolutely right, Arnel has never been given the credit he deserves. To my way of thinking he’s been used and his voice has been abused . Steve Augeri, who was the first to front Journey after Steve left, damaged his voice trying to make Neal happy and I’ve heard that Arnel’s voice is toast now but this is what happens to singers who have to reach the same level as Steve Perry. Steve was born with his voice and unfortunately the others were expected to sing exactly like him but they were not Steve. 🇦🇺😘
Yoko Ono syndrome. Neal is the only original member. firing Steve Smith and Ross Valory was just another bad move. and now he is squeezing Jonathan cain out by messing with him and he's got his backup lined up, Greg Rolle. what a mess!
There's apparently a lot more money in touring than selling records, because records don't cost $100 each and most of a record price goes to the company anyway. I don't know how tour money is split up but t's gotta be better than with records.
You are correct. Touring is how most artists make their money. That's the reason KISS, Crüe, etc. keep coming back for "1 last tour" because it's so lucrative. Album sales don't equate to "that" much due to the way label contracts are structured. That's why you have plenty of bands out there that have gone platinum yet if they don't tour much they live a relatively modest upper middle class life. Touring is where it's at.
@@mikeygraves16 agreed. The majority of any music artist's money is made via ticket sales and tour swag, especially these days. That's why they charge so much for a concert ticket and why a lousy $10 T-Shirt costs $40 (or more) at their shows!
Cain is hurting the band's legacy by associating with Trump. He should have more sense than to associate with such a divisive figure. This is to say nothing of his marriage to Evangelical grifter extraordinaire, Paula White. None of this is good for the band.
Sooner or later the time comes for every band to call it a day. That time has come for Journey. When you're no longer having fun & its all about the bennies , time to pack it in and stop before it gets real ugly.
They have tainted their legacy IMHO. Greed does that to people on both sides. I really got to like and respect Steve Augeri. But once his voice failed and they kicked him to the street. I was done with this band. Tired of the revolving lead vocalist and band members revolving door.
Journey to me has been finished for years I’m soooo tired of bands like journey, foreigner & Styx with new singers & half if not all the original band gone going out & performing iconic songs & charging a war price to basically hear a tribute act Journey was done when Steve Perry, & Gregg Rollie were out May we remember & cherish the classic lineups of these bands
Yeah these bands were great in their times and it's good to listen to their old albums but when they try to keep it going at a greatly diminished capacity, I'm not interested. Salvage some legacy and hang it up.
The facts are they are still in demand and very good at it or they wont be making this thoe of news. Your stating an opinion and the facts are undisputed. Anyone else talking about Foreigner or even Boston??? Their problem is no different than most of the bands we cherish have you giys not heard abiut VAN HALEN… go ask Dave or Hagar. The only travesty is they got lucky in discovering Pineda and could not keep themselves staright as they head into their twighlight.
You really need to see Arnel and Journey live. There is so much energy and the music is just as beautiful as ever. You are doing yourself a disservice as a Journey fan by not seeing that at least once.
If you don’t like it, just don’t listen to the music or Buy tickets. How can you possibly have anything against more music for people to enjoy? So many bands who were big in the 80s make great music today. I went to a bunch of Toto shows and they were fantastic! How can you be against people having the option to go?
You can tell the non Journey fans as they reference "Don't Stop Believing" as the Hit forgetting "Only The Young", "Separate Ways" & "Girl Can't Help It", at the end of the day, They are all Elderly, and Elderly people do not always get along. And what Brand? Their best days are behind them.
By your dumb logic, neither are The Rolling Stones, The Who, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Queensryche, AC/DC, Kansas, Chicago, Dokken, and countless other bands. Get over it and live in the now, Karen!

Journey is the personification of the biblical saying " to gain the world, only to lose your soul." There comes to a point when their fans Stop believing this band.
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle The constant touring can take a toll on one's voice. It happened to Steve Augeri. He had to leave the band after having throat problems.
I have always loved their music and always will. I believe they are all super stars and always have been. I think if it is as bad as it sounds like it is getting to be they all should take a minute and step back and re- evaluate what they either need to do to make changes or just not finish the tour myself I personally would like to see them work everything out and continue to tour. The fans don't deserve anything but the best that has been seen by them.
I can say this. Neil Schon is an amazing player with great phrasing in the way he plays. That being said I would say in my opinion that he is extremely eccentric to the point of being unsociable or tolerable. An ER rep I knew was going to dinner with him to discuss a possible signature line collaboration and he asked Neil what he had ordered when the food arrived pointing to Neil's plate. Apparently, Neil snapped and went on a rant about never pointing at his food....just weird lol. I mean, if that doesn't sum the guy up in a capital "NUTshell I don't know does. Pretty over the top and yeah no signature deal done. I still love his work but yeah, I don't think meeting him would be worth it in anyway. Too bad becasuse the music Steve, Neil and the rest of the band created was truly Amazing as many of their songs have transcended time and is still played today. Just wow.

All went downhill for the band when michaele enters neals life..when the most humble guy in the group have an issue with michaele..you know she is the problen.
I wish Neal Schon would retire and go wallow in his mountain of money and stop being an embarrassment. I used to ba a fan, saw them a few times. Now I wouldn't want them to play in my back yard. For free.
Survive, yeah, relevant, no. Nobody’s going to remember the current iteration of the band. All of their legendary legacy is with Perry, Rollie, Schon, Cain, Valory, Smith, Dunbar.
Yo! All these years I’ve thought Steve Perry was the problem. Steve Smith leaves again and now it seems from reports…lol. The guitarist is the douche. I’m just guessing. Might also be that you are letting outside sources get involved in “ BAND” stuff. Oh well. It’s been since the early 80s that the rocked .
It shows that fame and money destroys any individual, the legacy of any band etc... They' ve been working to be a superstarvwhen they were young then but now they were the ones also ruining what they had worked on!! oh my gosh I am so much depressed as they're my idol band!!! God bless Journey!!!
They seem to be arguing over money while all this in-fighting is costing them even more money than the original sum. I like their music but I will not go out of my way to see them because I do not want to end up fighting Ticketmaster or Live Nation for a refund when the crap hits the fan and the show is cancelled.
Bottom line, I think politics and religion are RUINING this band. BOTH of those toxic elements need to be erased completely from their business dealings. And SP needs to be back in the band!! Lol, it will NEVER be the band it was when they were with SP!
It sounds like both Schon and Cain are a mess. It can't help that they're both married to real pieces of work. Schon's FIFTH wife is the woman who infiltrated that White House party years ago despite not being invited with her husband at the time. And Cain, the guy who wrote "Faithfully" for his first wife before cheating on her, is on his third marriage to the freak who was Donald Dump's "spiritual advisor" (read: grifter) who is also on her third marriage. Add Cain's "God is on my side" BS and throw in the egos and greed of all four and we're here.
Shon’s narcissist ego has always been the reason why Journey did not make it as big as they could have, they hit the casinos well before any good band would, I stopped listening to them when Schon decided years ago to live off a few old album songs, too bad
Either quit with the drama or disband. I know one old member that’s getting a kick out of watching this crap and he’s the best member they ever had the face of journey! Hasn’t been journey since Steve Perry left!
Any major successful music group there are multiple issues because you have multiple members and like in everything how much is hype and really who cares? There music is awesome
Hey, Schon, It's not all about you! It's the whole band that creates the sound. Y'all are fortunate to have been blessed! Some of us are also good musicians, who struggle to have enough food & pay rent! So be grateful & grow up, ya whiner!
So TIRED of all this BS drama. I have been done with Journey for years and don't miss them at all. After I saw them on every show with S.Perry back in their prime and giving Steve Augeri a chance those were GREAT times. I saw them a couple times with Arnel, he's good but they started watering down. NOT interested anymore, ESPECIALLY with all the drama, SAD
At this point, a good Journey cover band seems more credible. Such a shame when tremendously talented people become obliterated and opinionated. Such as the saga of lawsuits and more BS. This is tragic, being a Journey fan since 1978. I do think the wives are a bit extreme in involving themselves in an unprofessional degree. Shame on them. I do appreciate Arnel's entrance into what seemed a very bleak future for the band, and his passion brought a new energy. How unfortunate that they are now at a point of fading respect, legal troubles, and ego battles.

So glad to have seen them on the Escape tour in 1981 before all the cuckoo for cocoa puffs nonsense between Schon and Cain and their respective spouses. Steve Perry was absolutely spot on in leaving them and gets a percentage of the Journey money without performing at all.
Lucky Duck
A lot of the problem Steve Perry had was when the rest of the band demanded that he get hip surgery and go back on tour right after surgery. To him, surgery was a personal decision not a band decision.
I saw them twice when Gregg Rolie was still in the band. That was the best lineup!
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle The kind of hip surgery that he had to have was not something a person could just bounce right back from like the band expected him to.

Did you live in Mill Valley or San Rafael? Those were the good days.... the bay area was home to some great bands in the 1970s!
Journey had soul when Rolie was singing, b4 Perry joined. Get your timeline straight!
Neal Schon is a great guitarist and has been a huge influence in my playing, but it seems over the years that he is always right in the middle of all the drama. Never a bystander. So much so they are still playing songs off Street Talk today and as for Steve getting royalty’s still today of 12%, I think that’s fair because Steve is named on so many Journey songs as a co-writer, songs that were made famous while Steve was still with Journey. Saw Journey in 2001 with Steve Augeri fronting the band. I got the vibe that Schon's ego demanded attention. Every few songs Augeri would announce "Neil Schon!" And point to his side of the stage and Neil would do a quick solo. It just seemed a bit much.
Look at me! Look at me! Thats what happens with small man complex.
Yuk!

My mistake...above comment was directed at
@Donelle Feltham... credit where credit is due! However, @Forrest, had a great point too! 💙
Has anyone noticed all this started when he married his hood digger wife that was engaged to another guy and left that guy for Neil. HELLO.
Actually, she was married and ran away from her husband who put out a missing person report. Pretty comical.
Neal got what he wanted...a pretty young wife.
Neal's ego is ruining this band.
I'm one of the new Journey fans. May God bless this band some more. Their songs are like gospel to me. The titles alone speak volumes. "FAITHFULLY," "DON'T STOP BELIEVING."
They need a camera crew following them around and recording all of these shenanigans and make a reality show about it.
THats what schons wife would like.
They’re all professionals and know how financially straining it would be if they discontinue the concerts.
Steve Perry IS Journey, period. I will NEVER watch them, live, EVER, unless Steve returns. Their front singer will never take his place. Journey is dead to me.
Steve didn’t even join the band until the 5th album.
Ok, you hold your breath for Perry to return to Journey, while I hold mine until Mark Farner is welcomed back to Grand Funk Railroad. Ready? 1, 2, 3.....
And they weren’t successful until Steve joined the band. Columbia was ready to drop them.
Little known fact:
Chicago's drummer wasn't able play, so Santana's drummer, Michael Shreve played their set brilliantly!
There’s any footage of the arguments ?

This is exactly why anyone in their right mind doesn't want to be on a major record label.
Neal Schone’s wife is Yoko Ono 2.0
I'll be alright without youuuuuuu
Sounds like Schon is tired of Cain after all these years.
Cain is hurting the band's legacy by associating with Trump. He should have more sense than to associate with such a divisive figure. This is to say nothing of his marriage to Evangelical grifter extraordinaire, Paula White. None of this is good for the band.
I was tired of Cain before he joined Journey.
Sooner or later the time comes for every band to call it a day. That time has come for Journey. When you're no longer having fun & its all about the bennies , time to pack it in and stop before it gets real ugly.

Neil Schon is an amazing player with great phrasing in the way he plays.
That being said I would say in my opinion that he is extremely eccentric to the point of being unsociable or tolerable.

It sounds like both Schon and Cain are a mess. It can't help that they're both married to real pieces of work.
