  • China's Chengdu J-20 Mighty Dragon was the world's first stealth aircraft to enter service that was designed outside of the United States. Here's a quick rundown on what we know.

also you realise that the J-20's purpose is to fire and dip, not dog fight in any situation. If it were to be like that then China would actually put effort to make it dog fight capable.

The problem is the US has been grossly over estimating its near peer opponents since WW2 and it has cost trillions of dollars that could have been spent far more productively. The US grossly over estimated the Soviet Union during the Cold War. When the Soviet Union fell we found out the US military complex had been lying to us, all along and the Soviet Union was nothing but a paper tiger. Then they said Russia is a threat they have cleaned up the corruption and mismanagement and now they really are a threat. Low and behold the US military complex was lying again and Russia is even incapable of beating a nation with a third of the population, one eighth the GDP, and less than one tenth the military spending.
So no I don’t believe a word that is put out by either China or the US military industrial complex.

In fact, trying to appear that you have capabilities or things that you don't, especially if you didn't have to spend a lot of money to get them, and getting your opponents to waste lots of money, materials, and Manpower on countering them is one of the oldest tricks in the book.

Because it was not a clean sheet design.
Chengdu company already designed a 4th gen fighter which looked like russian mig 1.44.
When the requirement for stealth plane was put forth by chinese government the company tried to make a stealthy version of their already designed fighter.
The f35'sh/f22'sh shape is the best to get good stealth and good manurability at the same time, that's also the reason why newer designs like turkey's tfx, korean boarme, and indian amca all look like f 22/f35.
While seeing the digital art of sixth gen fighters it seems they focus more on stealth and less on manurability, those sixth gen fighters will be more closer to b2 spirit bomber than actual fighter jets.

Everything I've heard about this jet suggests its relative lack of stealthiness does not hurt its intended usage. Its goal is to fly in with its relatively stealthy front towards the enemy, release missiles, and then bug out at high speed before the enemy can scramble anything to intercept it. In that regard, it doesn't matter if you see it, because by the time you do, it has already launched missiles and is on its way out of the combat zone.
I do not know how much of that is true or even plausible, but it sounds reasonable to my untrained ear.

Without RAM coatings, they compared all 3 F-35, J-20, and Su-57 low observable LO characteristics through their shapes/geometry alone. End results are "Even though, J-20 RCS is higher than F-35A RCS through the frequency range (approximately 3.5 times in X-band, 1.5 times in VHF band), it still has much better RCS characteristic when compared to Su-57."
Given their LO data, this could either mean it is more expensive to maintain J-20 much more Su-57 as they would need to apply more RAM coatings just to be on par in terms of stealth with the F-35. Or they would just apply less for economical reasons which translates to a less stealthy aircraft. So it is a possible scenario that India’s Su-30MKI radars were able to detect J-20 at long range. And very likely J-20 or Su-57 will be detected first than the F-35 in an aerial combat. Their is also J-20’s use of moving canards especially the all-moving vertical stabilizers while in-flight which can greatly impact its stealth properties.

And if they were they would not be moving at the speed of a jet fighter.
So if I'm mending the radar and the Sam Unit.

The F-35 and the AIM-260 would eat those J-20 alive. They are going to detect the J-20 much earlier and be able to fire the AIM-120 long before the J-20 knows what is going on. They can direct the AIM-260 to go out to the side and come in where the J-20 has a MUCH larger radar and IR signature. The missile can then hunt for a lock using Passive radar like the HARM missile does if the J-20 is actively scanning for enemies and as it gets closer get a lock with IR like the AIM-9x does and use both to score a hit. If the J-20 detects the AIM-260 and deploys flares and turns off its radar (both will likely not work anyways) the AIM-260 can switch on active radar like the AIM-120 has. With the range of 200km and speed of Mach 5 it is highly unlikely the J-20 will survive. Meanwhile the F-35 has moved out of the area to find another target and the J-20 never knew it was there until likely when the AIM-260 strikes.

honestly the J-20 doesn't seem to fill the same role as the f-35 or similar jets. It seems more like it's meant to be a stealthy f-15 ex. because china has one thing it's better at, long range aa missiles. So it's possible they are banking the J-20 to serve more as a stealthy missile craft supported b ground radar and awacs. Well our f-35's are meant to get that sport as well but strike a wider range of targets which means they are expected to get closer. And currently don't have the long range aa, but have vastly better ewar tech.

its just huge.. its too big to be As maneuverable as an F22 or SU57??
    even With those cunards!?
AND its lack of sensors compared to an F22 is almost comical!?

What sort of CIA Kool aid have you been swallowing. Even a J16 has better sensors than a F22 let alone a J20.
