Anyone that says that the one system is 100% superior to the other needs to open their eyes and think outside of the box. Mega Drive/Genesis has horrible sound to me here, but I prefer the colours, and (I actually owned both versions of the game), while the Super Nintendo is a great port, I always felt that the Mega Drive/Genesis felt more like the arcade version.

According to their power differences, the result on the sega machine is absolutely wonderful. There are even more detail on some stages, like the rope hanging the fish in Blanka's stage... Mega Drive had the best port when compared to the SNES and PC Engine ports. Capcom still dropped the ball not having the game in 320 mode in actual gameplay and not having finished up and polished all the speeches like for instance Guile's Sonic Boom in the Mega Drive version sounds good.

I played most of the game you compare on your channel in my youth and still love the classics. I think as an adult i can appreciate the games more the game play, artwork and story. I believe the first ever version of Street Fighter 2 i played was the original on Super Nintendo in the early 90's. The SNES has better sound samples for this game and most of the games that were ported to both systems back in the day. To me the 90's was a golden decade for video games, music and culture.

  • @DTM-Books

Both versions are excellent, take advantage of each system’s abilities, and remains as playable as ever. SNES has a much wider color palette which can be easily seen (Guile stage is a good example). The sound effect and music are also top notch, if different from the arcade. Super NES always had that 1970s mellotron thing going.
Genesis version is closer to the arcade. The intro is obvious, but careful players will notice the actual sound effects from the coin-op being used. Pity the scratchy sampling, however. I wish some hackers would fix that. Another detail many have missed: Genesis SF2 has more moves than SNES; the Nintendo version simply copies a lot of moves that fewer players use. You really had to be obsessive to notice that.
Both versions have outstanding graphics and easily fall within the broad tag “arcade perfect”. Both versions have been surpassed by the arcade-perfect reissues seen on the many compilation discs on later systems (I really like the Saturn Capcom Generations version).

The Genesis version is the better port when compared to the SNES and PC Engine ports but Capcom did not take advantage of the Mega Drive's system's abilities. First off the game should have been in 320 mode in actual gameplay like most Mega Drive games and even though not all the speeches are bad (Guile's sonic boom and Sagat's speeches sound good and some other characters speeches sound good) I feel like they didn't finish or polish up some other characters speeches like RYU's and KEN's (which should have been cleaned up being that they are the most used two characters by most). Now the Music is a Masterpiece on the Mega Drive and like I said some of the speeches are good. Still even with Capcom dropping the ball on it not being 320 and some of the speeches not finished and polished like Guile's sonic boom. The Mega Drive version is still the best port, looks the best in RGB and also has the best gameplay. Overall I would say it has the best sound when it comes to the music and I do like some of the speeches better than the tunnel sound of the SNES speeches and music. The PC Engine music is not good at all but it does have the best speeches out of the two. I also hate how Nintendo didn't like to use 320 mode as much as the Mega Drive or even the PC Engine in some instances like the character select and when you see the versus are both in 320 in the Mega Drive and PC Engine ports but its 256 on the SNES.

@@Atariatari-ky9te Truly and utterly delusional. Let me guess, you think Trump beat Biden in the election too, right? Does the Genesis version have Jewish Space Lasers too? The Genesis version looks like utter garbage and sounds even worse. Some of us have actually played both versions of the game side by side on the same TV. In fact, I've played the Turbo Grafx 16 version on the same TV back in the 90's and that version looks and sounds superior to the Genesis version.

    • @Atariatari-ky9te
      @Atariatari-ky9te 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@davidaitken8503 In RGB the Genesis version looks the best. The Genesis version always had the better gameplay with the faster processing but looked worst in Composite. I just played all three versions on Champion Edition mode today. SF2 Turbo for the SNES plays slower and has the worst presentation in RGB and I own a 1 chip SNES and originial SNES. The PC Engine version plays faster and looks better in RGB (not as good as the Genesis version in RGB but better than the SNES version). This is just the truth the Genesis version plays the fastest and has the most fluid gameplay and it looks the best in RGB. Now if your playing all 3 in composite video than obviously yes the Genesis version doesn't look the best with its weak composite video image (still plays better though). SNES might win for best image in Composite being that it has a better composite video image than the PC Engine as well. Even though the PC Engine composite image is good too but like I said when playing in RGB the Mega Drive version looks the best (it already played the best compared to the PC Engine and SNES versions). For me gameplay is 1st but it doesnt hurt that Street Fighter 2 looks better also on the Genesis when comparing in RGB.

The Genesis sound chip and soundtrack in general for this game was closer to the arcade than the SNES, the only problem with the Genesis version was it's inferior sound channel capability, which resulted in that muffled noisy sound you refer to as needing a cough drop.
The SNES music was cleaner, but the problem for me was that the music was its own weird version of the arcade using totally different instruments and sound effects. It sounded like some classic theatre mix of the arcade, which didn't really work for me at the time, but you accepted it purely because you just wanted SF2 in your house and couldn't be bothered to wait for the Genesis version.

MD one plays a little smoother. I had MD when I was a kid, but looking at this I would have been happy with either version. Both camps got a great version of SFII. Both version are so close ... only on sound where Snes have a little advantage, it's sound more polish but the raw aspect of MD in sound give a more aggressive touch so isn't bad or better, just a little different in this aspect ... Personally I prefer to play it on MD but I prefer SSF2 on Snes because the MD version is clearly weak (and it's like Capcom have don't progress on MD between SF2' and SSF2 ... is some many point, SF2' is better than SSF2 on MD). Both console was great and so complementary !

I'm normally an SNES fanboy big league but I'm gonna be objective here.
    Graphics: SNES
    Music: Genesis
    Speech arcade-faithfulness: Genesis
Speech clarity and technical quality: SNES
    Other sounds (quality): Tie
    Overall arcade faithfulness: Genesis
    Gameplay: Tie
You couldn't really go wrong with either one in the early-mid 90s. The Genesis version was a bit more arcade faithful if you cared about that. Both had their respective flaws but were the best/only real way to play SF2 at home back then. Of course now you're better off finding the arcade version on MAME, Xbox Live, or one of the 89345905843 compilations it has shown up on over the years.

This video both amazes and irritates me at the same time. It amazes me how close Capcom was able to get these ports to the arcade on 16-bit hardware. Both games include all the characters, moves, levels, turbo, and gameplay from the arcade without a gigantic hit in quality. Such a feat during the previous generation would have been completely impossible.
The reason it irritates me is the shoddy state in which the Genesis port was shipped. There was absolutely no reason for the Genesis version to lose the background sprites it did and the voice work should have been crystal clear. We know it was rushed and after seeing the SF2SC fix we know how good it could have been on bone stock hardware. Unfortunately, for years it caused many to believe the Genesis's sound chip couldn't do voices properly even though it was doing clear voice samples since the very first day it released. It was the same with Mortal Kombat 1 and 2. It's almost as if they wanted us to believe the Genesis could say "Come here!" but not "Scorpion wins." Ridiculous.

The funny thing is, the reason the voices in the Megadrive port sounds so bad is because Capcom utilised a buggy Z80 driver for its PCM sound, and everyone just assumed it was a limitation in the hardware (SNES bla bla bla), well Stephane Dallongeville developed a patched driver which brings it up to snuff with the other ports.
Obviously I'm going to say the MD port, due to the fact that I love FM music, take that and add the modded Z80 driver and Pyron's colour patch, stick it on a flash cart (or burn it to an EEPROM if you're hardcore), and you've got arguably the best forth-generation port (well, except for the Sharp x68000 port, but that was a microcomputer).

I have been playing Street Fighter 2 for the Mega Drive, SNES & PC Engine all last weekend and this week. I have changed my mind lol Here's my final take the Mega Drive port is the best and I do like the SNES version now better than the PC Engine version.
The Mega Drive version has the clearest RGB image and has a bit more fluid gameplay than the SNES and PC Engine version.
As a whole Music wise the Mega Drive is the best. Speech wise the PC Engine is the best.
    As far as stages
Dhalsim - Mega Drive looks better and has a more arcade presence.
RYU - Mega Drive has the moon and is more detailed.
Ehonda - SNES looks better and has both of the Orange objects hanging on both sides.
1st special - Mega Drive more detailed.
Blanka - Mega Drive the music is better and it has more of an arcade presence. Snes is 2nd though with the cloud moving in the background and the music is good.
Brick special - A tie for the Mega Drive and SNES. (its not in the PC Engine version)
Guile - Mega Drive has more people and its more detailed. The music is good too. SNES no.2 it has better music than the PC Engine and looks better than the PC Engine.
Ken - Even though the PC Engine version has nothing going on in the background as far as the boat and flag. It still looks the best. SNES no. 2 as it looks good not as good as the PC Engine but better than the Mega Drive.
Chun Li - A tie. The Snes and PC Engine version looks better than the Mega Drive but you have to be impressed with all that is going on on the Mega Drive version with the people on the bikes coming out more and the MD version looks good too just not as good as the other 2.
Zangief - The Mega Drive looks the best. Its more detailed and has the signs on the fence. SNES no2 as it does have the fence (doesn't look as good as MD). PC Engine no3 (no fence at all).
Balrog - SNES looks the best.
Vega - All versions looks good but the SNES has the words moving. So SNES no1.
Sagat - SNES looks the best and the music is better on this stage than the MD and PC Engine.
M.Bison - PC Engine looks good and I like the music on the PC Engine version here than the MD and SNES versions.
    Im a SF2 nut lol
NO.1 - Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition Plus (Special Champion Edition) - Mega Drive
    NO.2 - Street Fighter 2 Turbo - Super Famicom
NO.3 - Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition - PC Engine (used to be my favorite)

I have my Sega Genesis Model 1 VA 2 hooked up to a stereo system. Not sure how many have played Street Fighter 2 Special Champion Edition on a Sega Genesis Model 1 VA2 but its sounds really good (not just the music but the sound effects/speech as well. It sounds better than the muffled Model 1 VA3-VA6 and Model 2s sound. The Model 1 VA2's have clearer sound than the Model 1 VA3-VA6 and Model 2s which have a more muffled sound. Also all the Capcom games sound amazing on Model 1 VA2s. The Model 1 VA2s are harder to come by and also there are a few games where a sound effect sounds distorted when listening on headphones for example on Mrs Pacman there is a little distortion when Mrs Pacman eats the ghost but you can only notice it IMO when listening with actual headphones but when listening with the sound coming out of the speackers/via headphone jack IMO you cant hear the distortion.

Snes speech was always to quick, it would always say you win Perfec missing out the T, background elements missing and wrong on some stages, elephant sounds silent through out the fight on dhalsims stage, which are present in the arcade and md versions, the SNES also missing animation on the faces during the continue screen, which again arcade had and so did md, also the 2 guys fighting at the start are missing in the SNES on both versions too why? The megadrive is capable of doing CLEANER higher quality voice samples than the snes but i think most all developers used the mastersystem pcm audio sample channel for voices as it was easier, the megadrive has 10 sound channels - snes has 8
Its a shame .. but street fighter on megadrive in many ways is a rush job especially in the audio department,it doesnt even use the higher resolution mode of the megadrive and also remember the megadrive didnt even use special enhancement game cart chips like most snes games NEEDED to even compete... if sega had copied nintendo and started adding extra special chips tp their games the price would have went up from 40 to 60 for a game just like the price of snes games but sega wanted to keep their console and games affordable and in their eyes, the megadrive was capable enough in the right hands
Not to mention capcom dobt habe the best history of quality programming - that accolade goes to konami so if you want to see more of what the megadrive was really capable of,look at konami and treasure yet using STOCK hardware and small rom sizes
The megadrive was better than the snes but the lack of mode7 really held it back, but these days i just look at it as mode7 allowing developers to do something different and explore with different game ideas on snes, sometimes worked and sometimes didnt so we all got more instead of less or identical games on both systems so its all good

There's less background characters in Guiles' level on SNES.

Super Famicom/Snes não! Apenas Snes! Versão de Super Famicom tem alguns detalhes diferentes, tipo o cara "brincando com a mão" no navio do cenário do Ken.
E para os que falam que o som do Mega é melhor... o que é aquilo aos 13:20?!? Uma galinha?!?

I own both, and the gameplay is smoother and so is the sound on the SNES. I still love the Genesis version though.

Just the sound fx, the music is better on Genesis that sounds much faithful to the Arcade

@@benjaminzuniga5750 I totally agree with that for sure! If I play Street Fighter, it is usually the Champion Edition on Genesis, because of the 6 button controller. It is perfect. I wasn't knocking the Genesis. I love the Genesis. I just think it sounds better on SNES.

@@jeff97ish SNES definitely sounds better, I guess it's meant to be a remix and not close to arcade, the Genesis in the other is a lor closer to the arcade and the music is still awesome.

I grew up with this game arcade to snes and genesis, other than the extra game modes offered in special championships edition, Turbo is by far the superior game, argue all you want every person who grow up with this will say the same thing

Sin Sony y su chip de sonido, los cartuchos de snes de Nintendo, hubiese sonado casi igual del Sega genesis.
