  • Comparison video of the classic fighting game Street Fighter II: The World Warrior / ストリートファイターⅡ (Capcom 1991) that features gameplay of the following versions:
    (0:05) Arcade
    (0:52) Commodore 64 / C64
    (1:56) ZX Spectrum
    (3:29) Atari ST
    (4:58) Amiga
    (6:12) Super Nintendo / SNES / Super Famicom
    (7:07) PC DOS
    (8:07) Sega Saturn
    (8:52) Sony PlayStation / PS1
    NOTE: PS2 and Xbox versions are an emulation based on PlayStation version. Also, Wii and Wii U versions are based on the Super Nintendo version, so they have been purposely discluded in this video.
    Please also note that this video only covers the first Street Fighter 2 / SF2 and not its variants or updated versions such as Street Fighter II '/ Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting, etc. Possibly, we will make a video of all of them later.
    Which port did you play? Which one do you think is the best?

    And this right here is a great example of why the SNES won not only the 16-bit console war but also basically the entire home gaming war completely at that time (and this includes all the PC systems too)--it just had the games, including the big-name ones like this, and it done them extremely well for the time for the most part. I mean, Christ, Genesis isn't even on this video because Street Fighter II didn't come to the system until the next iteration, by which point the SNES was also getting Turbo, which is, imo, the best home console version of any of the Street Fighter II games in the series bar none.

      On the Dreamcast it actually WAS the prototype for the Xbox. I had it on good authority, sega was paid to shelve the dreamcast and provide their expertise to the Xbox. If you look at the Joypad it is near identical to the Dreamcast's.
      I miss Sega but the shady deal I outlined is one of the reasons I think they deserved their fate. Also useless unsupported addons like the sega CD and 32X didnt help. Also Sega Europe was run by a guy called Cecillion, who ran disastrous Sega Europe Dreamcast advertising campaign. He blew over half the Dreamcast marketing budget on sponsoring a team called Arsenal. Then wasted the rest on weird out there ads that didnt show any in game footage?? Sadly the previous head of sega europe who was great was killed in a freak accident where is swallowed a wasp whilst having a drink and died!!
      When I look at Nintendos survival and continued success who knows what might have been. In fact Nintendo said they never gave up on hardware precisely because they saw what happened to Sega. No one cares about Yu Suzuki, Yuji Naka and the AM teams anymore, they were responsible for some amazing games..
      Even Capcom, Konami and Namco suffered a bit with the demise of Sega.

      @napalmhardcore 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JamesMartin-bc8xq I had an Amiga (it was my main gaming platform from the mid-late '80s until the early-mid '90s). While it's true some of the games designed with it in mind and even the occasional port were good/great, it had A LOT of awful games on it, whether it be botched ports of high profile titles (i.e. the games most kids wanted to play, myself included) or European developed games with awful gameplay and a homebrew vibe about them.
      It was also hamstrung by the fact that the vast majority of games only supported a single fire button despite the fact it supported at least two (I read somewhere that it could actually support three). Most of it's games would have played so much better with more than one fire button, but as was often the case with the Amiga, mediocrity was settled for.
      While I enjoyed my time with it, in retrospect I think it's massively overrated as are some of the games for it that earned "classic" status. Only on Amiga could Super Frog be considered a great game. The sad thing is that in terms of hardware it was an absolute beast, but relatively few games made good use of it.
      When I look at the Amiga's library, I can't help but think what could have been. I wonder how certain games would have turned out if they were handled in-house by arcade developers like with the X68000, or even if better relationships were formed so developers had source code and better resources to make conversions. Alternatively, it would have been interesting to see Britain/Europe more directly compete with Japanese developers in terms of production values.

    I don't know what they were thinking when they designed the Atari ST. That system cannot scroll backgrounds horizontally (only vertically)...it has to be emulated in software and is horribly slow and choppy. Basically it was designed for games to be on one screen. The Amiga did not have that problem (look at Shadow of the Beast on the Amiga vs the Atari ST). You do realise the ST began being developed in the very early 80s yes?
      Most versions of games were badly done ports. There are a few exceptions where the ST can move just as well as if not better than the Amiga.
      Vroom, Microprose F1, and Thunderhawk and No Second Prize are all better to play on the ST.
      This is coming from someone who had an STFM, STE and A600 in the house.
      Also, if you wanted a machine for music sequencing, you used the ST.
      I think the final point is how much cheaper the ST was at launch though of course the Amiga had a lot more additional hardware thanks to more years of development.

    • @StormsparkPegasus
      @StormsparkPegasus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@skylined5534 The hardware on the ST series is garbage compared to the Amiga though. There's no competition. If Amiga versions of games are bad, it's because the developers were bad. With competent developers, Amiga versions of games will always be better than ST versions. But not all developers are competent, and some just wanted to churn out a cheap port to make a quick buck.
