Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly".
This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonate, concerto or symphony that is using that specific pace.
The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and give his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself.
The classic music piece is globally famous and there were many different translations into different songs, with different music composition and different lyrics (Daniele Licari, Sarah Brightman and Sissel Kyrkjebo for instance).
But the most famous version, by far, is Lara’s version: it was translated into a pop song for her, she wrote lyrics in english and italian for it and is the original performer of this new version.
She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration.
This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash (Lara is his absolute idol and he covered several of her songs), Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, Il Divo, Rimar, Vitas, Anastasia Luna, …
They made great covers but none of these match the amazing storytelling performance of Lara, or her ability to use vocal subtleties to be in sync with the music, exposed in her live from the concert From Lara with Love.

Do you know Lara’s first native language is italian? While born im Belgium, she spent the first years of her life in her mother family in Catane, Sicilia.
Then she moved back to Belgium but still feels really italian. Her husband is sicilian as well and she spends a lot of time in Sicilia.
As you said, her italian version of Adagio is beautiful as well, and even for a french like me sonds better in fact.

Non ti scrivo da un po', bello ritrovarti...adoro Lara Fabian, è davvero spettacolare...in molti ti hanno suggerito di ascoltarla in Je suis malade, che davvero esegue perfettamente...una vecchia canzone cantata da Dalida...ascolta pure la sua versione di Comme ils disent, che invece cantava Charles Aznavour, pezzo magnifico anche per il significato, quasi un mini film...e poi, sempre in francese, Je t' aime, dove fa ancora sfoggio delle sue doti vocali, che ritrovi pure in I will love again...il vocalizzo finale è pazzesco....ah, giusto per, in quella parte le parole non sono " I'm not afraid " ma " before I run out of faith " 😉 sempre un piacere ascoltare le tue spiegazioni tecniche, ed adoro la faccia ammirata che fai quando ascolti il talento....Lara merita davvero, le sue esecuzioni dal vivo sono eccellenti...un abbraccio😉🤗👋👋

Se entiende porque Dimash la admira tanto...desde pequeño soño cantar con ella algún dia, y lo logró, a trío con Aída Garifúllina (prima dona de la opera de Viena) cantando "Ti amo Cosi" en el cumpleaños de Igor Krutoy ...ella y Dimash son lo más

ciao Giacomo io ho avuto il piacere di ascoltarla live in un concerto e devo dire che ti lascia senza fiato(a differenza sua che ne ha molto!!;))) è fantastica..che dire, canzoni bellissime ce ne son molte,je suis malade,perdere l'amore(se vogliamo stare sull'italiano)io personalmente ho adorato la colonna sonora di A.I. for always....tra l'altro lei arrivò 3 all'eurovision l'anno che vinse Celine Dion,peccato che in Italia quando partecipò a Sanremo con "voce" venne snobbata!!!

Ciao GIACOMO, bellissima analisi tecnica, finalmente qualcuno che reagise a LARA capendo tecnicamente chi ha veramente davanti......non so' se sei consapevole del meraviglioso diamante che hai appena scoperto....tecnica, voce,intelligenza, bellezza e umanità (scrive anche la maggior parte delle canzoni che canta) lei è un pacchetto completo difficilmente raggiungibile dalla maggior parte di altri artisti. Se continuerai a reagire a lara ne avrai per mesi e qualunque canzone e in qualunque lingua deciderai di ascoltarla non rimmarai mai deluso. Un consiglio, cerca in giro ci sono video magistralmente restaurati nell'immagine e nel suono ma sono sicuro che ERIC ti abbia fornito già l'elenco giusto. Ciao 🖐

La versione in italiano è, a mio avviso, un pelino migliore. Conosciuta grazie a Dimash, devo ammettere che cantata da lei questa canzone raggiunge non solo la perfezione, ma diventa addirittura un capolavoro. La Lara ha una morbidezza nella voce che manca a Dimash, che comunque è un meraviglioso artista, uno dei più grandi nel palcoscenico mondiale dei nostri tempi.

you should also listen to Floor Jansen's adagio (Nightwish - sung in covid time). Also very beautiful and yet different. With Lara you feel her as a victim, but with Floor it is less than not accepting what is happening to 🎶🎶🤟🏻🤟🏻
