I love how while you’re giving a profound vocal analysis, you don’t shy away from being affected by the singing. I always enjoy your reactions. And speaking of this one, kudos to the exceptional pianist who creates, with Lara, an atmosphere and to me this version is not simply an “accompanied by the piano” but rather a voice and piano duet. Sublime.
His name is Charles Barbeau from Quebec and he has been one of the preferred pianists of Lara but also Celine Dion, Ginette Reno, …
He was also the pianist of Je suis malade in the same concert and you can see him here with Lara when she sings snippets of her songs on demand receiving phone requests from fans. He knows her songs catalog perfectly.

Lara always worked with stellar musicians and her pianists were/are top-notch: Charles but also Pierre Grimard, Giora Linenberg, Manu Putois.

Crazy, I have no words. She has a rare dramaturgical power and a recognizable vocal timbre among a million singers. In my opinion she is underestimated. Thank you , I get chills.
Lara Fabian was very well trained by the best opera teachers from Belgium and Italy, but she decided to sing pop songs, she als has the knowledge to sing in operatic way, she studied from her 8 to 18 at the Belgium Conservatory of Music (there she learned Bel Canto, piano [she composes her own songs on piano)... Then since 1998 she kept having vocal lessons with her Italian teacher untill nowdays, she has two vocal teachers (From Belgium and Italy) and she keeps having vocal lessons at least 3 times per week on-line. Lara also workz as a vocal coach on The Voice Canada, she already worked as the vocal coach at the Star Academy program in France from 2004 /2008.
Here another Italian she LOVES to sing, one of her idols is the Italian singer Mina. ❤❤ Her mother used to sing Mina's song to her.

je crois que Lucio Dalla a dû pleurer le jour ou il a entendu et vu Lara chanter sa chanson car pour moi c'est la plus belle interprétation de se chef d'œuvre musical , une adaptation de Lara de très très haut niveau, rare sont les chanteurs (Homme ou femme) a pouvoir réaliser ce genre d'adaptation sans enlever l'âme de son créateur, une véritable artiste dans tout les sens du thème.

I’ve seen so many reactions to this masterpiece, some were great already, but yours is my favorite by far.
I had great expectations giving your past reactions and the fact you are italian and thus so much connected to this song. But you exceeded these!
Thanks for all details on the vocal technics but most of all thanks for explaining her artistic choices in the use of these to convey different emotions.
Many covers made of this song are showcasing vocal power but very few are rendering the sad story of a dying man speaking for the last time to his younger wife about their love and the marvelous career he had.
And for me, Lara was the best, with Lucio Dalla of course, in bringing the his background story on the front scene.
Surely because she is as Lucio first and foremost a songwriter and words are so important to her.
I will the usual comment I provide about Caruso, not to your intent, you obviously know all this and more, but for your audience.

For those discovering Caruso (obviously not yourself or your italian audience):
Caruso, is an italian song, written, composed and performed in 1986 by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to Enrico Caruso, the most famous tenor of his time (late 19th / early 20th century). He was the first global singing superstar.
The story is about the last days of Enrico Caruso, he knows he is dying, and he is remembering all his career on stage and telling his much younger wife how much he loves her.
It has very quickly become a classic of italia music and the biggest names have covered it (Julio Iglesias, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, …. and of course Luciano Pavarotti).
But for many, Lara's version is the best ever, as she was able, with her unique ability to convey the emotions of a song, to reveal the real sad story written by Lucio Dalla.
I was told that Lucio Dalla himself, after hearing this performance, said that she made it her song and this is the best version he has heard from it.
For Lara, this song is really important as this is a kind of anthem for Italy, and she is so much connected to this country. Her first native language is italian. She spent the first few years of her life there with her sicilian mother and grandma. Her husband is also sicilian. She still recurrently spends weeks in her home in Catane, and I believe she is currently there, working on a new musical project.
This is art, not just music, even when not seeing her to perform you can feel her voice. Such a rare talent
Lara Fabian is an exceptional singer. No other singer can move us just by opening her mouth. This way she has to embark us in her stories, the way she has to make us feel all the emotions of a song.

I concur with many of the commenters here. I have seen a few very good reactions to this performance, but your comprehensive review has knocked them all out of the park! Most importantly you have really helped us who love Lara Fabian, through a deep look at her artistry, to understand better why we love her so much! Apart from Perdere l'Amore, which many have recommended there are so many performances you could review. Might I suggest the short " I Guess I Loved You", accompanied only by piano, from her 2006 Un Regard Neuf concert?

I really liked what you say about the natural voice that doesn't exist and that you transform by performing. And you're right, it's the same in all the arts.
It reminds me of something: I'm not a singer, but when I was younger I worked as a magician. And there is a famous quote in magic, by Robert Houdin, which says: "A magician is a comedian who plays the role of a magician".
For me, this has always beautifully described my work.

I lived in Italy many moons ago and Lucio Dalla was one of the many artists I listened to. His version is completely "DALLA" and wonderful but Lara interprets songs and takes them to another part of heaven. I loved following along with my rusty Italian, reading the subtitles every once in awhile. You speak so clearly and your reactions were filled with musical knowledge and the soul of an artist.
