Born in Poland, lived in the UK, Austria, on top of that constantly going back and forth to the US since my bf is American.... AND it's been getting really frustrating to not be sure where's my place on this planet. But I guess it's just less complicated not to put any label on myself and be a GLOBAL CITIZEN

This has really motivated me to call Geico and get the $200 they owe me from when my car got broken into on my first day living in Portland, OR where some thieves stole my passport! And the thieves at Geico never gave me any money for that incident, but I'm calling them this week and getting that $200 to get a new passport so I can fly to Costa Rica and visit my very own father!

    Honestly, I haven't ordered this book and probably won't.
    I'm def a supporter of Damon D, but I think a cosmopolitan "We all belong to the ~earth~" / mindset tends to ignore the violent reality of living in a time and place where borders exist. Like congrats, you have the material resources and power of a US passport behind you to transcend *Nationality as a Construct.* The truth is not everyone has the privilege of being a "global citizen" and very much have to face the harsh consequences borders have on family, identity, and like... being alive. Maybe Damon addresses this, but I have an eerie feeling the book probably slips into some tone-deaf territory.

    I completely understand you by wanting to have been able to write definitively or in your stance, however, I do see why the publishers wanted otherwise. Simply put, an overwhelming majority of people are sheep/followers who lack discernment on when or the skill on how to critically think.

    23:03 but why does passport privilege turn people off? It’s the truth! If you were born in a country like Iran! By no fault of your own your passport value drops to the bottom of the chart!
    now me who like you wants to travel the world and see the world have to sacrifice my dream or work 100x harder to be just in your shoes!

    I know how frustrating it can be for authors to have an editor make a load of changes and not be on the same page as you. Personally, I struggled working in publishing because my superiors always wanted books to be so generic and please the biggest number of potential readers, all for sales purposes. Unfortunately, it is an industry about making money just like any other, and authors can't write exactly what they want. But your book sounds really original and can't wait to read it :)

      They would say something along the lines of that version is too "niche" and doesn't appeal to a wide enough audience for them to print enough copies to make it worthwhile for all parties involved, etc. I'm sure they're correct in some aspect, but it's really just an angle from which books can sell the most copies and not which books deserve to be published (which is a shame!).

    We enjoy how you think and have opinions on everything, and we were wondering about what you think about how the USA considers themselves as the only ”Americans” when in reality America is a continent, right? Like if French people would have decided to call themselves as European all the time and not French and get all offended when some other country says, dude “you cannot be just European” , you have to choose-your own name for your country , and not mocking and bulling everyone else in that continent. Yes Colombus was arrived in what they called America ( most likely somewhere in the Caribbean not the mainland) So WHY do you assume everyone knows were you are from , when you call yourself American? People from Argentina or Columbia for example have their own country name (smart people) why cannot your country not get their act together and Get A Name rather than bully a continent? We are NOT the only people that cringe when you say you are American and assume we know what country you are from!!!!

    • @mjohnson9563
      @mjohnson9563 ปีที่แล้ว

      People from Great Britian are called British. People from the United States of America are called American. The continent of Africa existed long before the nation of South Africa. When the 13 British colonies in the new world chose to unite and declare their independence from Great Britian, they did not have a name yet for their new country. However, by the time the new country had defeated the British in 1776 the name on the new country had been settled upon. The United States was a reflection of each colony being their own nation as well as being nationalized at the same time. There is disagreement on where America came from but since at the time everyone living in this new nation was British, the word America was derived by former British citizens. Eventually after the birth of the USA and after many explorations of the new world, new maps had been drawn depicting two new continents that eventually were named North America and South America. I will agree that every country in North America and South America is guilty of bullying the native citizens of these two continents who had lived here for ten thousand years. History if fascinating.

    • @jimm8682
      @jimm8682 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @M Johnson The Panama Canal is an artificial (man made) divide of the continent of America, South Africa ( the country) is the most South country in Africa therefore it fits, just follow how " selective" the people of the US chooses to identify themselves as "American" even though they say that name is legit as theirs, for example the PanAmerican games (sports where all the countries in the American continent participate) in that case all of a sudden they are from the US, it surprises us how many people do not know world geography . To have 2 names for a country is not the problem ( British, ) expropriation of a continent is the problem here.

    People like to read just for the entertaining purpose of getting to know the thoughts of the author. Maybe a second book called the global immigrant. Third book could be global racism. My relatives in France complaining about the Algerians and my relatives in Germany complaining about the Turkish. Trust me, every country has racism as it is a natural psychological aspect of the purpose of being. I am a better person because they are not. Yet America and Canada would not be what they are without immigration. As the Statue of Liberty beckons, give me your sick, your poor, your tired. This book is through the eyes of a white American because that is how you were raised. Don't forget to publish on Audio Books and in Braile for those of us who have challenges in reading. Hope you had a great time with your ex.

    28:50 "Your Honor" has to do NOT with "respect" but authority and jurisdiction. If you call the COLOR OF LAW JUDGE "Your Honor" then they do not need to honor YOU. You are the person being honored. "ACTING HONORABLY" has to do with not breaching the laws, but JUDGES are only breaking the laws due to how the system is constructed. Really. By saying "Your Honor" you are admitting to being brainwashed by attorneys and that "they have you." it's for them to know that you are brainwashed and "legally incompetent"... an "idiot" as defined by law.

    I wonder how much you consider why there are these rules, laws, and customs beyond your personal ideas of how they pertain to you alone? Why did the police stop and question you in NY Central Park? Could it be that many who wander there late at night are not there to enjoy communing with 'nature,' but are interested in more nefarious pursuits... And perhaps paying taxes pays for the upkeep of the park, or providing for public schools, and the countless needs that are necessary to maintain a government for the people? Certainly far from perfect, but still extremely necessary. Your youth might explain you considering only yourself and not looking at the larger picture? Or is it pure just pure 'me' that interests you?

For example, I went to stay in the most beautiful hostel I’ve ever seen in Paris in my early 20s only to return back to Spain where I was based covered in bed bite welts eyelids to ass. Had to go to the mall to see a doctor that gave me some cream and called it a day. I’m currently sitting at home in the US with the worst stomach bug I have ever experienced and it did make me wonder how I would handle it were I in a foreign country.. always love your perspective. ❤❤❤

    your slaying love u just bought the book but - Theresa may was the prime minister for the UK, albeit the devolved countries have their own first minister so i get the point but politically inaccurate.

    I just started thinking and realized that I never dated or had anything with anyone from my country 😂 Every person was from somewhere else somehow, that's my pattern xD

    It's interesting what you say about not wanting to say 'some people', etc. in that way that kinda waters down your opinion. I haven't read your book yet, but I wonder if radically take on a style of "I-statements" would allow your words to be taken as purely your opinion or perspective, but in a way that didn't feel like it thins out your conviction. Maybe that style would even encourage you to go into richer detail about how you personally experience something, and then that richness itself would simultaneously style it as being from your personal perspective. Just a thought, hope it makes sense.

    Okay just gonna leave this here in case someone has answers cause I'm lost: how to Keep friends while travelling? What I mean by this is is that it is "easy" (as someone with social anxiety not really but still) to have a nice time with someone during a trip, but what is hard is finding friends that aren't just there for one trip. When you are in school it's relatively easy to surround yourself with a few people that you become close to. How do make those kind of connections with people you aren't around that long? Have I just not met my best friends yet or is there something else I should try?

    It sounds to me that your publisher is in only for their own profit. You could’ve worked privately with an editor and then self publish on Amazon, have the book in ebook version and printed, and keep all profits to yourself. After this first book experience you should feel real confident to take care of your next yourself.

    Ciao Daman. So its a bit impossible to find the book in Pakistan. so I was thinking about stealing it online, but then I thought no! you have given me so much that I really wanna give some thing back! ( I know my $14 won't save ur life hahaha), so I asked my local book store to import it for me and they agreed and they will bring me ur book. (Although in a month and they will charge me $55 for it). Totally worth it!!!! Thank you and love u.
