John Locke wrote about parenting (among MANY other things) and remarked that children want to be treated as rational beings. A parent's stifling behavior/attitude can breed deep resentment and drive children away. Had to read a lot of his highly influential writing in college.

It's not a lie that it takes a village to raise a child. Not wanting to have a kid until you have help comes from that. But I'm sure you know the forces at play that keep the village from forming and keeping the nuclear families separated.

I feel so validated by these chats. It’s so nice to know that there are other people in the world thinking these thoughts and pondering their existence. I appreciate your “unpopular opinions” and that you are able to be balanced and thoughtful in both you delivery and thought process. All of this to say thank you for all the masterpieces you put on the internet. Sending you positive energy!

My mom had me at 25, and in encouraging me to move to Europe for my Masters, she shared a similar sentiment about wishing she’d known herself deeper before raising a kid. She was still learning and growing up herself. There’s never going to be a perfect time, but it’s ok to take some time and enjoy the privilege of some ‘selfish’ years before becoming a parent or partner (or both). At least that was her advice.

It's a very important question whether to have a child or not. I'm 48 and I have a 17 yo son but since I've never had any maternal instinct and got pregnant just because I thought it was the right time ("you're 30, how long are you going to wait, you may not be able to have children later in life" etc.) not because I wanted to have a child. I love my son, I think/hope I didn't damage him terribly, but if I could turn back time I would NEVER make the same decision. I feel like I have aged not 17 but 27 years. Motherhood has drained me completely, reactivated all my childhood traumas, made my life, whatever was important to me non existent, so if you don't feel the instinct, don't do it to yourself. I wish I could turn back time, I want my old self back, but I'm afraid it's too late, I am not the same person, in fact, "if I met me now I wouldn't know me".

"Wow, my friend, you've become the ultimate 'Bali Guru'! Watching your video feels like embarking on a mystical journey to the land of wisdom and tranquility. I mean, you're practically a walking, talking spiritual guidebook now! 😄
But here's the thing, Bali isn't just a place on the map anymore; it's a state of mind. You've managed to capture the essence of this enchanting island and infuse it into your advice. It's like you've sprinkled Balinese magic dust on each word, making it impossible not to be captivated by your wisdom.
I can picture you sitting cross-legged on a tropical beach, surrounded by a chorus of chirping birds, as you share your life-changing insights. And I must admit, your aura is so radiant that it's reaching through the screen and transforming my day. Can you send some of that positive energy to my inbox too? 😇
Thank you for sharing your incredible journey and imparting your spiritual knowledge with the world. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to meditate and embrace my inner Bali spirit. Namaste, my friend!"

Hey Damon! I recently went to Morocco on my first solo trip and met a Canadian girl there. Funnily enough we found out that we're both big fans of your videos and everything you talk about, which lead us to philosophise about several topics concerning culture, traveling, differences between North America and Europe etc. that you also like to talk about. Thank you for always raising new questions and motivating us to think about those topics more, we could really connect through that even though we're from different cultures. I wish you the best time in Indonesia and all of your upcoming trips Damon 🤍🤍

Your view on always having to make choices and therefore sacrifices is something I think about all the time! It was presented to me in more of a Buddhist view of always “choosing your suffering”. So yeah for example you will suffer if you choose to stay in your hometown because you’ll be thinking of all the things you could be doing otherwise. And you’ll also be suffering if you leave because you’ll miss certain things. It’s never that one suffering is objectively worse than another it’s just which YOU choose. And you (almost) always have the choice!

hi! i studied pharmacy and work in pharmaceutical biology and i see often that people call synthetical drugs poisonous or dangerous or toxic compared to things that have biological origin - i always feel a bit iffy because this destroys the trust towards certain medication. most countries spend a long time to ensure synthetic drugs to be safe and vice versa, drugs derived from plants can still show a lot of side effects or be toxic when used in the wrong combination/for the wrong reason. most drugs have their place and reason if they are not used by business people to make money and i support the balance of both, plant-derived and synthetic drugs. now i know, the examples you used were actually good ones where shifts towards more natural remedies are useful and less invasive so i hope you don't read this as criticism.
i also really enjoy your videos and all the things i learn through you! x

What I appreciate ab your videos is that you offer me a perspective that nobody around me can realistically offer me. I feel that I'm not being cheated on the truth for the sake of my feelings or for the sake of what the other person believes I want to hear when I just want an honest unfiltered experience. Thanks for using this platform to re-empower people to feel justified making a decision for their own sake, and for reaffirming that in the end it's all going to be okay if a person is willing to resolve their situation and seek personal fulfillment.

I'm feeling what you've said about people nickel and diming other individuals who travel for their climate impact, when the majority of emissions from planes comes from private jets. I've done the math - flying 4 -5 times a year including 2 long haul flights is still better than owning a car for a year if ya'll wanna get into it. There are two social classes in this world - the working class and the upper class. The only change that's gonna come is from the solidarity of the working class (if you are drop shipping and making over 200k a year, you are still.working CLASS!) The upper class love to see us divided - that's how they get away with poisoning our earth and paying people a pittance to work their lives away. WORKING CLASS SOLIDARITY OR BUST!

I’m 25 with a 4 year old, I always struggled with mental health and tragedies and she gave me purpose, for the first time I actually want to figure out who I am and what I want, for example I pursue design now because painting with her reminded me what I enjoy to do and we travel in cheap traditional hotels and explore cultures together because I couldn’t afford all inclusive vacations for her but I realized that we like this way of traveling, adapting to the cultures we visit and do local stuff and my daughter always has so much fun! I do things my way, I don’t pressure myself to act older than I am while trying to be a good mother to her, I love being a mom even if it comes with complications and stress sometimes 🫶🏽
I’ve learned life doesn’t make sense, death is final and inevitable, time is most valuable and we don’t get it back, staying curious, constant change and exploring is more worth it than signing your life away for the highest income that doesn’t matter once your time on earth is up

When you talked about having less novel experiences available in your future and having less places to travel and how eventually you're going to run out of things to feel, I found that very interesting. I've been fortunate enough to have had many, many traveling opportunities and left my home country when I was six, and now, I actually find it much more fulfilling and exciting to stay put and like, let myself really ferment in an environment. I think travel through time can be just as exciting and eye-opening as travel through space, but unfortunately I can only do the latter forward at a rate of one second per second. But like, yeah, maybe one day I'll run out of things to do or places to go, but if I revisit something, the me that's revisiting that is different, so it's still novel. I'll still be me, but I'll have different thoughts and priorities and interests, and a different relationship with my body. Maybe I'll lose passion for something I used to love, or gain appreciation for something that didn't previously resonate or compel me.
I'm going to cut myself off there, because otherwise I'll be out here writing a bible-length comment about everything you had to say. But thank you for the great video and doing what you do. Very thought-provoking. By the way, I'm @flytrap.mp3 on Instagram and I sent you some cool shit going on in Singapore, if you decide to go.

Commenting for the first time because I'm so excited that you could be coming to Singapore, which is where I'm from! It's a city of dualities where you can have great fun by spending a ton of money, and also be able to do and stuff you can't find anywhere else at a pretty affordable price. Our govt loves to market the country as an expensive futuristic pseudo-utopia but its so much more than that, I promise.
But as always, loving the excellent content you always put out

for me, what helped with my fear of the future was realising that it really isn't productive. you fearing it won't change the outcome for the better, infact it will leave you stuck, which is far worse. So as Damon said take action, one present moment after the other towards the thing you want.
and if we believe that the future already exists, and we are on a determined path, then we have no control over the outcome, so now the responsibility/weight of all of it is gone, and we can just exist.

This video was so helpful for me. I just left my religion, Christianity. I loved the concepts you shared about being who you really are. I needed to hear that. Christianity dictates a lot about the kind of person you’re supposed to be and what you’re supposed to believe about yourself and others. But that didn’t match who I really am. So I’m finally starting to figure out who I truly am. And the future that I want to choose for myself. Your philosophical videos are always eye opening, reassuring, and help me believe in me. Damon you are such a big inspiration to me. In this video you said a lot of things I needed to hear yet enough things that make me feel better about my circumstances. I’m turning 25 in a little less than a week and recently I broke down crying seeing people in my life and on the internet having giant life mile stones in my age group or those I grew up with. Downplaying the 180° I made on my life the past two years (graduating college, finally getting health insurance lol, solo traveling in America, having a full time job and being promoted) bc comparison is a silent killer. I never understood ppl who saw others successes as their own LOSSES but it came to that for me that night and I hated it. Your words always motivate me and i think it affected me more so in this video bc I came to realize or maybe just only came to terms to admit that after my big changes I got comfy and stood stagnant. I purchased your book a month ago and also you inspired me to finally apply for a passport which I did right after I bought the book too. Once I have it I plan to apply for cruise ship jobs and au paire work so I can see the world while being paid to do it! I was so comfortable being alone on my US solo trips I need to get a worldly view of life. Love you lots sorry this is so mouthy. Always look forward to the next blog!!❤️❤️

One of the things that I took away from it was a monk’s perspective on purpose: the fact that ur alive, you’re already serving your purpose, whether you realize it or not, because every act you make creates a ripple outside of you that positively (Or negatively) affects everyone and everything around you.

4:43 I think it's easy to fall into this cycle though that turns into "when is the right time then"? I personally have recently decided not to have children and it's like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I don't know what the future holds but I'm excited to build a life where I'm satisfying my own needs through learning and experiencing new things and growing as a person. Let's be honest, life is getting crazier and I don't think I could juggle all that comes with being a parent even I thought I could pass on a lot to a kid...

Damon go to Singapore! It’s so unique and interesting and beautiful too! The Hawker centers that most people go to for meals are amazing and the crazy little amount of land they have for people to live there and how they remedy that is quite interesting.

It’s nice you said your family doesn’t mind you going because they know you’re at your happiest in other places, I’ve grown up in Texas and I’m planning to move out of state and I wish my family would also be that supportive. Like I know i will thrive more somewhere else and I want to experience other cities so badly.

I loved this video!! It was so interesting to get your insight on all these topics, plus you bring a smile on my face each time. I just wanted to add on the eco-friendly part, where you say that people shouldn't take it out on other people but on the industries; I somewhat agree, the industry influence us to consume a certain way. However you, as an individual, and a group made of individuals, (and I do travel and take planes, so it's not for this particular exemple but in general) have a lot of power, it's truly the "you" that forges the industry. Without us the industry would be none existent. If habits of consumption were to change, it will influence the industry. Of course the bigger the group with changed habits of consumption is, the bigger the shift will be in the industry. Keep up the good work!!

That will sound just bad, but I forgot how much you’ve inspired me in the past! After watching it I got this huge energy rush of like - girl get out of your head, grab those posibilidades 🤪 emotionally and physically kind of too I come from an environment which is super overthinking, super looking for a problem-oriented, country is hard to escape because of currency is low and ahhh, being mid 20s got me into this point of being just overwhelmed by all those things which are not reachable for me. But wait a minute, wouldn’t that be better if I switch worrying about the future, just taking full joy of a present moment? I KNOW, SUPER DEEP. But actually felt that today. Thanks Damon🙋🏻‍♀️ looking forward to grab your book someday

Yes to your kid take! I don’t think I’ve heard anyone else talk about kids that way. I know I don’t want them because I know the only reason I’d want them is for the “experience,” and I don’t think that’s fair to someone who’s going to need me for the rest of their life.

I don't feel lost because I know there are infinite possibilities and was never brought up to believe adults are set in a path or were infallible. Whereever I am is where I am and I build. Sometimes that build takes me to a new direction and I have to decide how to recalibrate but it's simply uncharted, not lost.

I don’t fully agree with consuming natural stuff first because some unregulated stuff can hurt some people. Early treatment can avoid future problems, just see a doctor. But I do agree with a healthy diet and trying to avoid processed foods 😊

This was amazing 💓 truly thank you for your perspective on these topics ! I loved your take on how we are free to make choices and it’s something we should see as a power and not as a chore which is so hard for me to perceive that way. I am a French 23 year old and I’ve never been so lost in the trajectory I want for my life right now, as you said there are a lot of choices and a free access to too many people to compare our lives with which could be both a blessing and a curse. I’ll try to see it more as a blessing from now on.

As a Singaporean, I would say Singapore is a lot more developed and has had a lot of what makes it 'unique' lost to urbanisisation/gentrification over the past few decades BUTT there are definitely still fun places! You might want to check out hawker centres (basically street food vendors but placed in buildings) and neighborhoods like Chinatown, Kampong Glam/Arab Street, or even check out the older 'residential neighborhoods' like Toa Payoh or Balestier.

i definitely approach life as if the future comes to me instead of i go to the future; right now im studying for board exam for medical school and i think people could view it like oh thats so boring or oh thats draining but for me im like oh im doing what i want to be doing this moment and thats that
