Most meaningless death, Cari had a good life and this relationship wasn’t even too serious. I think Cari was just everything that killer dreamt for but never had, beautiful, attractive and intelligent
Dave was actually falling for Cari only because Cari wasn't bluffing about only wanting casual with him like the other woman who'd reluctantly agreed to casual. Why do so many men have to make all the women in their lives feel bad with the "casual" bullshit?
If she hadn't decided to target a second woman seems she would have got away with all of it and she never thought Amy might have an iron clad alibi for the time she decided to shoot herself?
Cari’s son is one smart cookie. I feel so bad for her family, especially since that monster made her look like a psycho and tarnished her. Makes you wonder if Cari having mental health issues didn’t make it easier for people to believe that she would do those things. The stigma on mental health is horrible and needs to end.
Dave was very anti-commitment. But he was open about it. He hurt no one intentionally. Casual dating. Casual sex. Consensual. If you run into men or women like that, MOVE ON. If you want commitment, don’t force or guilt someone into it. Liz literally did all this just to ensnare him by guilt. It was pathetic. And an innocent person died. He looks so different now. I guess all this got to him. He seems like a chill guy and I hope he is at least happy now.
He KNEW Liz was jealous and obsessed with him. She told him she was only seeing him. Any guy who keeps sleeping with a girl in that state and then just says… oh, IM non committal btw… and then just goes on his marry way, IS A FOOL.
That’s where she fucked up. Got over confident. Eventually, homeboy or investigators would figured it out, imo. Liz would eventually find a new target, prob dude’s next girlfriend. Which would happen as soon as he met someone he was serious about. He was never serious with Liz
I never got the logic of that like... it's kiiiiiiiiiiiiiinda understandable the idea of other people trying to "steal" your loved one but their own children? What are going to do???
@@DD-d6d3 don't assume a step mother won't harm her step child just because statistics say otherwise doesn't mean the statistics is accurate... mostly males but plenty of females do it too...
With all these text and emails not one police officer traced the IP address? For 3 years. And what kind of psycho burns ur house and kills ur kids dogs??
@Lassi Kinnunen 81 I could not entirely follow this story, but the one pretending to be the other one, I think she was a computer programmer. Could she have done something to prevent the cops finding the IP address or the other thing you said? Mike is good, but I really could not keep this on straight. Lol
I read an article that said it would have taken her at least 20 to 30 hours a week to do all the emails and texts. It's almost unbelievable that a person can become so obsessed with another person they would do all that was done to the point of shooting themselves and killing their pets in a fire. Millions of people use dating apps with no problem and every now and then there's a person who loses touch with reality.
It's too much work when Liz wasn't considered a suspect at the time. Not only do they have to extract the data, they have to go through everything that was extracted manually since there's no way to automate a process like that. It would only make sense to do it after they became suspicious of her involvement.
I wonder if Dave can look back and clearly remember Cari the last time he saw her, and know that's the person she really was. Dave's got to feel stupid and feel a lot of remorse about that. Shanna murdered her physically and then proceeded to murder her reputation, her spiritual connection to the world for two years after.
It seems like Cari's son didn't buy the bull, and knew his mother very well. The one positive I took out of this was her son knew his mother would never leave him willingly like that. Shanna tried to destroy everyone that got in her way, and I'm assuming her kids are on that list, as well. What a psychopath.
They did say she had issues with Bipolar so maybe he just thought she was more off wack than he realized and went off the deep end. Liz was essentially gaslighting the shit out of everyone so they were confused as hell. Finally the son wised up and aent a security question, but Dave was the main target of the gaslighting.

I feel sorry for all these people who have watched so many that they have this utterly unrealistic, hopelessly cynical concept of society and their own safety within it. We are wallowing in the cesspool of an extremely small percentage of the absolute worst of humanity, and we need to remember that.
Gallows humour is a good way to cope with death. A lot of people find in disrespectful but a lot of the time it's just a different way that person copes.
I definitely think she would have without a shadow of a doubt and I dread to think what may have happened to his kids too because she wanted him all to herself

One thing you left out, Shanna was also creeping around Amy Flora's neighborhood during the times she was trying to frame Amy. It was suspected that Shanna was plotting to kidnap and kill Amy if given the opportunity. And that is why the police told Dave to move in with Amy to help protect her.
The fact that they claimed they did a thorough search of Cari’s car yet didn’t even remove the seat covers that hid her blood and then sold the car, and never tested the finger print to the people involved.😒 it almost made the case impossible to listen to.

They played her so bad telling her they needed to find some incriminating emails that Cari may have sent. I just imagine her sitting in front of that detective and her thinking ‘they bought it’ LOL
My same thought. You would think the case took place in the 70s with how long it took for them to connect her to everything. Should not have been that crazy to put 2 and 2 together.
I can not BELIEVE the cops didn’t immediately realize that Cari was dead. The minute you said Cari abruptly broke up with Dave I knew she wasn’t the one doing all this. They should have been working with that theory immediately. Like. Are you kidding me.
Police officers sometimes go with the flow, other times they go with theories. The problem is that building a cass on a mere theory is difficult, so investigators can't always go that route.
This was 8 years ago, as far back as 35 years ago police knew to investigate people who claimed to be stalked. Granted, being active on social media wasn’t a thing back then, but it wouldn’t have taken much effort to establish whether or not it was Cari sending threats. If I were Cari’s family, I’d be chewing some police ass for eternity.
To be fair, with an average of only 4% of the crimes that police are involved with per year being felony crimes, they don't have the experience or training to even know the indicators of a serious crime. Not to mention most of them take the job to pad their pockets and/or to engage in pathological behavior with impunity.
I know girls like that, you just need to be a psycho to escalate it this much.. but creating fake conversations and victimizing themselves I have seen before.
My friend had to move because his ex kept terrorizing him she tried to get him fired from his job, slashed his tires, poisoned his dog, All I can say is, I'm so glad I'm single...
Like, lighting her own house on fire and killing like 4 or 5 beloved pets, sad. I hate my step father with actual passion, but if I was gonna light his house on fire, I'd at least grab the animals first no doubt.
@Mr. Moon No, but i do think it's more likely for a childless person to do something like that than a mother risking to lose her children but aparently that didn't stopp her in this case. Besides that, i don't like the idea that she was completely fine with killing the girlfriend even tho she also was a mom and she knew the son had to grow up without his mom around/without knowing where she is and if she is still alive/ thinking she just left him behind. As a mom myself, i can't Imagine myself to ever act like that on a man.
It's difficult to imagine what Cari's family went through during the four-year charade orchestrated by Golyar. Because of the continued "correspondence", all of those involved believed that Cari was alive. 😔😢
@Mandi Benson She was obsessed. She confused love with ownership. Also, she had to try to cover her tracks for the murder while winning the guy's sympathy/empathy - thus, the prolonged impersonation. Finally, when none of that was working to keep him with her... she had to get his first partner out of competition for his attention. Why not use the previous tactic - i.e., blame the woman for every questionable thing that had happened while using her to keep her own tracks covered? She was clever, but not THAT clever - by complicating the story excessively she drew too much attention to herself, and she wasn't as smart at understanding how to conceal your use of tech as she thought she was... the elaborately constructed house of cards had to come down eventually. I think, in the end, maybe she got so caught up in the weaving of the fictions that she might have almost had "getting the guy" become of secondary importance to her. Yet she had invested all this time and effort on him - she couldn't shift her focus to another man. I think she loved all the shit she thought she was getting away with and the sympathy from others she seemingly could recruit. I understand it - but I constitutionally am incapable of "getting" it. My ex and I were victims of a similar kind of woman - mercifully not as clever as this one, but she still fooled a surprising number of people into believing her bs. I'm also glad that woman was never was in a position to know the details of this case (the trouble with her pre-dated this timeline), or she would no doubt have got ideas from it. To sum up - there are some utterly irredeemable people in the world. I had the misfortune to spend several years being hurt by someone approaching being that bad - but the woman in this case was the full-blown deal...
@Mandi Benson oh, totally. I mean, it might take a bit longer than that one week to get over... but the very nature of your response shows that you're capable of reasonable thinking... and not a psycho. What the woman in this video did would be too much work for most people. Who has the time - let alone the inclination?
I agree it’s horrifying knowing what she did, but isn’t this another typical ménage à trois. Some women are crazy-jealous of other women (just like men). This was just at the far end of the crazy-jealous spectrum. Yes, the fact she killed her own pets is reprehensible and she should have also been charged with killing them (except the snake).
@@ljruss42 Both are evil. I think her point is more that Liz obviously hated Dave’s new girlfriend, but she should have no hatred for those animals. They are completely innocent sentient beings. Anyone who can harm animals has deep mental issues.
I knew a girl in my dorm that acted like my friend and nearly a year later would have her friends prank call me and tell me about my routines around campus . I thought I was being stalked until I put two and two together. The last straw was when it was my brothers wedding day and they called and my mother yelled at them on the phone threatening to file a police report. They never called again. If someone knows every move you make, it is a person close to you in some cases pretending to be a friend. Truly terrifying.
My God, I can't even imagine how stressful. this must have been for your entire family. Your Brothers Wedding and this uneducated child did her best to destroy any happiness for you. What stood out for me is she must have been jealous of you and your strong family bond. Yay Mom. ;) I'm sorry you had to deal with a vindictive child. Glad you rose above the garage 😊 Be safe and have a peaceful Christmas. ;)
No, they would have started the investigation sooner, and she(Liz) would immediately have become a person off interest. They were just tunnel visioned on Carey being the suspect instead of victim.🤔
@sleepydoctor I agree but damn that's so crazy its scary. She kept up with filing police reports for years than began to create a new suspect for police to look at. Did she watch some f'd up movie or book to come up with all the twist and turns... If not she should have used all that energy to write her own horror movies, she is scarier than any of the Stephen King books/movies I've seen.
This is what Liz sent to "Amy" about what happened to cari: Detectives also discovered that Golyar wrote and sent an email from a fake account posing as someone else and detailing the murder, KETV reported during the trial. Golyar described in those emails how Farver had been stabbed in the chest and stomach, her body was burned and thrown into garbage bags in a dumpster, according to Omaha World-Herald. "" but these are words from a heartless killer so take it with a grain of salt but I think this is what happened and why they couldnt find her.
@@CHASE420stars Yeah and the dead foot may not have been attached to the body in that photo. Who knows? Liz was clearly a psychopath so anything's possible.

Oakleaf700 🤣🤣🤣 very true. Although, I think Meghan Markle is beautiful. I have to apologize, when I first read your comment, for some reason, I was thinking bout Megan McCann. Lol
I agree. It was bad enough hearing how psychotic she really was but those animals done nothing to deserve her killing them. Of course Cari didn’t either. I don’t understand how these people feel inside. I don’t get what makes them tick.
Well, killing someone to be able to impersonate the dead person to be able to manipulate your ex boyfriend to get back with you is a bit on the psychopathic side. The amount of utilitarian thinking vs the lack of empathy and overall humanity is striking. She didn't probably give two shits about the animals.
she also murdered a woman and pretended to be her harassing her family for over 3 years...that's what makes her colder then ice and a real monster. Killing the pets (you left out the cat and snake she killed btw nice one) was terrible too but the main thing is the murdering of a fellow human being...
Wow. This might be the craziest cluterf^ck of a criminal story I've ever heard. Liz certainly take the term "batshit crazy" to a whole new level. However, I must admit, Dave must not be the sharpest tool in the shed if he wasn't able to catch on to the fact that Liz was behind this entire thing after over 4 years of this nonsense.
He eventually knew Cari didn't write all those Facebook messages. He send "Cari" a message with personal questions that didn't get answered. But I definitely agree. Its weird how he could not have eventually started to suspect Liz. But if you think about it like this.Liz was super manipulative, she played on his emotions. She had her house burned. she was shot, her pets died etc. What is he gonna do? Say to her: No this stalker that has been bothering us is actually you. You shot yourself, you burned down your own house. Maybe those thoughts even entered his mind. But then he probably tought. No that can't be true. Nobody could go so far to do that. I do agree with you though. He should've know. (maybe deep down he did)
Ah it was his son I misunderstood. The story is confusing enough. She manipulated him completely anyway. So it's hard to say that he should've know for sure. He might've been suspicious. But who in their right mind could suspect a person doing all those things to themselves. It's just a completely crazy story.
As soon as the crazy emails/texts started I knew who it really was and what she did. Which worries me, I watch too many of these things and I'm afraid I will start assuming everyone around me is a crazy psychopath lol. Great work as always, Mike!
The first red flag was the text that asked Dave to move in with Cari & the subsequent overreaction, after she had made it clear all along that things weren’t serious between them. If Dave had anything about him he would’ve been suspicious from that point, let alone once the stalking & harassing began.

Great job telling this story. I saw a documentary on this a few years back, she was an evil lady. How cruel to communicate with her family giving them hope, and she killed animals in the fire. Prison is too good for her

@TunaSaladSammich The sad thing is that she probably enjoyed that part the most. Awful.
The death of her pets was the most meaningless

Dave was very anti-commitment. But he was open about it. He hurt no one intentionally. Casual dating. Casual sex. Consensual. If you run into men or women like that, MOVE ON. I guess all this got to him. He seems like a chill guy and I hope he is at least happy now.
Dave is a dolt.
He KNEW Liz was jealous and obsessed with him. She told him she was only seeing him. Any guy who keeps sleeping with a girl in that state and then just says… oh, IM non committal btw… and then just goes on his marry way, IS A FOOL.
If she had never tried blaming Amy, she probably would have gotten away with it.
Actually though unless they found a body or more physical evidence she may have gotten away with it
Yep. Cari could have just stopped emailing and disappeared
That’s where she fucked up. Got over confident.
Eventually, homeboy or investigators would figured it out, imo. Liz would eventually find a new target, prob dude’s next girlfriend. Which would happen as soon as he met someone he was serious about. He was never serious with Liz
After years of getting away with it I can see how you could get cocky
Liz was determined to get rid of every woman close to Dave including the mother of his children!

It's too much work when Liz wasn't considered a suspect at the time.

Police officers sometimes go with the flow, other times they go with theories. The problem is that building a cass on a mere theory is difficult, so investigators can't always go that route.
This was 8 years ago, as far back as 35 years ago police knew to investigate people who claimed to be stalked.
@Mandi Benson 👌
@Mandi Benson oh, totally. I mean, it might take a bit longer than that one week to get over... but the very nature of your response shows that you're capable of reasonable thinking... and not a psycho.

@@xaviermillar9375 what kind of bs are you learning about women?? we aren’t jealous of each other, stop perpetuating such weird lies
@@foxsisters6257 Yeah, I should have used “some” instead of “most”.

I love this style of crime content. You make it so entertaining and somehow even light at times, despite the nature of the heavy topics. Love it!
shanna killed her own animals, thats how u know true evil
Not to mention killing another person, but the pets that’s just Manson level evil there 🙄
@@ljruss42 Both are evil. I think her point is more that Liz obviously hated Dave’s new girlfriend, but she should have no hatred for those animals. They are completely innocent sentient beings. Anyone who can harm animals has deep mental issues.
Bing Frikkin GO. 😡😡😡
You probably typed that while eating a hamburger
Let's not put animals lives above a humans.
It’s almost always someone close to a person.
Glad you rose above the garage 😊
Be safe and have a peaceful Christmas. ;)
She prolly would’ve gotten away with it if she hadn’t tried to pretend to be Cari
And then blaming Amy..
No not at all, that delayed them looking for Cari. She might have gotten away with it if she hadn’t moved on to Amy.
I feel so sorry for the little boy must have been so confusing and traumatizing to him. I hope he's allright today.
So they’ve never actually found cari’s body?! Her family was tormented for way too long. This was a really sad story.
Poor Cari and my heart just goes out to her family. So awful.
You can see, too, from the foot photo that she cut her fucking toes off! Would not be surprised if she was dismembered.

She did it.
I wanna know how! How did she always get what she wanted. IMO she’s not very pretty so...what’s her secret? I guess doing things to men that most women will not?? Possibly?
@@JulieRoberts-mt2zy Look at Meghan Markle! She always gets what she wants, too.

Oakleaf700 🤣🤣🤣 very true. Although, I think Meghan Markle is beautiful. I have to apologize, when I first read your comment, for some reason, I was thinking bout Megan McCann. Lol
First time I've laughed out loud in 3 days. Thanks
Meghan Markle is gorgeous and a generally good person so I’m confused
she set the house on fire knowing these poor dogs would burn alive? they did nothing wrong! she is colder than ice, she is a REAL monster!!!
@@debodatta7398 for me every sentient being is worth the same....

@John Smith - 🤣
She can’t help that like some people can’t help prematurely balding.
She could bite a wall.
(maybe deep down he did)
I don't think he's dumb so much as that he is naive.
@-JRH- Yes. I think it was Cari's son asking the questions.
Ah it was his son I misunderstood. The story is confusing enough. She manipulated him completely anyway. So it's hard to say that he should've know for sure. He might've been suspicious. But who in their right mind could suspect a person doing all those things to themselves. It's just a completely crazy story.
@-JRH- Yes, is was Cari's son Max asking the personal questions that only his Mother would know. So sad. What a shitstorm.
As soon as the crazy emails/texts started I knew who it really was and what she did. Which worries me, I watch too many of these things and I'm afraid I will start assuming everyone around me is a crazy psychopath lol. Great work as always, Mike!
Assuming makes an ass out of u and me BUT it makes us safer LoL 🤭
Best to be safe and aware...i feel the same way...I'm a true crime junkie
Same. And they are! 😜
Always ask the person you are going on a date with if they have any crazy / clingy exes . If they do , avoid them .
The first red flag was the text that asked Dave to move in with Cari & the subsequent overreaction, after she had made it clear all along that things weren’t serious between them.
If Dave had anything about him he would’ve been suspicious from that point, let alone once the stalking & harassing began.

Mike's a family man 🔧
I heard this story from the opposite perspective, meaning Max and Cari's mom told the story and how It unfolded for them. It was heart wrenching.
That had to have been torture on them. I’m sure it still is. God bless them and I will definitely say a prayer for the family. Horrific story.
I feel so sorry for Cari's family. Losing Cari had to have been hurtful and inexplicable. Im glad her son thought to ask those questions on Facebook. For them, at least, it must have proven it wasn't Cari.
There is a great documentary out where the setting and narrative are from the perspective of those searching for Cari...I believe it was over an hour long and was full if information not found anywhere else. You really get to understand what it was like for the Mother and everyone else involved direct or indeirect...

How was she able to pay Cari's cell phone bill without leaving a trail?
Probably paid by direct debit from Cari's back account. As the body was never found, and she wasn't declared dead, the account remained open.
I’m guessing her family kept it paid in the hopes that it may actually be her…they probably didn’t want to give up that last shred of hope. I know I wouldn’t. Even more curious though, is how was she able to access Amy’s email to send herself those incriminating emails?
I know I have so many questions..
@@TammyD123 think this is easy to answer she had acces to her body so fingerprint or eyes to open phone automatic login for email and facebook from phone would also explain all these typo's Thanks you :D
@@sandoklap88 She had access to Cari’s body but Amy was still alive. Amy was the ex-wife who she was trying to frame for Cari’s murder by sending herself incriminating emails that were supposedly from Amy.

Seems like the kid/son was the only one clever enough to know that the syntax in Cari's texts was off ... Smart post asking questions only she could answer 👍
I agree, he was very smart to do that. The silence after he texted that sure nuff said it loud and clear, Cari could not answer it back because she was not alive to do so.
So sad, Cari, and her family, how devastating to have this go on for years... it is insane it lasted for years...
Great job telling this story. I saw a documentary on this a few years back, she was an evil lady. How cruel to communicate with her family giving them hope, and she killed animals in the fire. Prison is too good for her
Agreed
Mike and That Chapter are the way I get through my week. Without them, I am nothing...oh and coffee! Thanks, Mike.
The "and now she gets to live with him?!" Kind of gave it all away.
it was probably the most emotion she showed throughout the entire case💀
As happy I as I am that she got an arson charge, shouldn’t she have gotten an animal cruelty charge also? Those poor fur babies 😭
my exact thought 🌟🙏🧡
I thought the same thing. While I would do a lot of things for my David 😃, my pets are family.
Too often they only pursue the highest few charges they have grounds to prosecute on, & end up letting a lot of others (even if they're just as deserving of inclusion) fall by the wayside. It's definitely part of our legal system that I dislike.
people like her make my stomach hurt... lately its been really bumming me out how dark and how sick humans are. those pets of hers loved her and trusted her and were loyal friends... to be burnt alive is really fucking horrible...i can't stand how vile and cruel humans are... no wonder humans are so hard to love at least for me.....too many flaws too much darkness.
