- Carer’s Allowance is the main welfare benefit available for carers in the UK. It is a benefit that pays money to someone to help them look after a person in need of care.
But like so many benefits available, there is a set of criteria that needs to be met to qualify for this benefit.
So, who is eligible, and how do you go about claiming it?

£67.60 a week and you have to care for someone for 35 hours. That's less than £2 an hour, how is this even legal? I was left some money when my dad passed away and as a result they took away the income support top up. Now I have to pay for my prescriptions, eye tests and dental treatment. Could you imagine the outrage if this happened in the workplace? Your savings are a certain amount and your boss takes away 20% of your wages for doing the exact same amount of work. But it's ok to do it to us, the people saving the country billions.

Years ago I got 52p an hour carer's allowance for my daughter and when my Mother was taken shopping I was sent a bill for £12 per hour.

@@ycul21 that is just so unfair. I know I was really annoyed when I saw a job advertising for a live-in carer getting around £500 a week.

In the job center they tell you to claim cares after you do if you are on universal credit they take the 69 70 of your money and you find your no better of its like Peter robbing Paul
Iam a carer and receive carer allowance, I will be getting my state pension in October at the age of 66yrs. My carer allowance then stops....so the person I care for is going to suddenly not require any further care assistance.

Can the person who needs care claim carers but as several different people carering 4 her a friend who dose 3 days and a 16 year old family member but they don't work or claim any benefit
Hello Justin, I suffer with disabilities and my wife is my career. We applied for cares allowance because .I reserve p.i.ps we reserve a latter saying we were going to get cares allowance. We were thinking this would have help us a lot. But the we reserve our U.C and it had a note on my account saying they had taken off the cares allowance. So we are no better off.i maked a point of saying. Well surly it counties as work and we are allowed so much money before you take it off us,she said no it doesn't work that way. We would be grateful if you could look in to it for us.thank COLIN
If cares allowance goes up to 239 as its stands its 69 70 a week if this does go up a lot of people will lose there unversal credit I get it for my son who sufers from epilepsy asthma and other ailments

Carers allowance is a lot more complicated than this - there are all kind of hacks such as legitimate work expenses that can be deducted from your pay - such as a car on PCP you need for your job or a mileage or meals allowance, half your pension contributions, any tax and NI etc - and also, dont forget that the earnings threshold means just that - it only counts earned income - not unearned income from, e.g., a workplace pension or income from premium bonds or investments.
If your income rises, it is usually better to top up your pension contributions - most schemes allow this.

I was caring for my husband for over 40 years, my daughter 50+ and counting. Please tell people that you are not allowed to claim for 2 people and if you get to 60 that's it, yet it is harder when you get older to continue.

No point to it whatsoever. I claimed and was given the allowance. My benefits were reduced slightly. No word at all that it would be deducted from the other person, now months later she has to pay it all.

So if you're in full time or part time work but earn more than £128 or whatever it's been updated you can't get anything?...time is time how is this justified when we are saving the state huge amounts of money each year.

I’ve received my first payment from carer allowance 1 month ago but I had a job interview the other day and I was successful and I am going to be starting that job. All I want to know is that the person I care for lives with me and would I still be entitled to get carers allowance if I am working for legoland ?

Why cant my son claim carers allowence, when he looks after me,i get pip enhanced for mobility? Am partially sighted. Have hypertension.asthma.and now been told my other eye has worsened.?
If he's working it could depend on how much he is earning or if he's getting universal credit they only take it of him its a no win situation

Carer assessment allowance is obtain from charging the person whom carer is caring whereas Carer Allowance is normal weekly allowance not charged from that person whom carer is looking after?

Why does it take 12 weeks for the claim to go through?
That's just the timelines they commit to currently to process a claim.

Hi paulie carer allowance will be deducted from your universal credit whole months carers allowance you get they will take that of your universal credit in a way its fucking bullshit its wrong but thats how it is

Carers allowance will be deducted from the person needed care. If the carer is a spouse then there is no benefit whatsoever from claiming Carer's Allowance.

@@Liya12334 Usually a few weeks, but it gets backdated to the day it was received. If you're waiting for a reply, call them and make sure it's in the system.

what is the difference between carer assessment form and carer allowance form?
Hi there - Anyone can claim carer's allowance of £6760 a week currently if they care for someone at least 35 hours a week and that person gets certain benefits. A carer assessment is different - you can ask for one from your local authority and they will assess what impact being a carer has on you, your health etc. You may then get extra help like respite.

I am in receipt of UC benefit and lower capacity to work and work related activities. Just been awarded PIP standard rate. My husband is not a British citizen but cares for me 35 hours or more per week. Can he get carers element and carer allowance? If so does my UC or PIP amount received get affected?
