  • What is attendance allowance and how do you claim it?
    If you’re over 65 and have certain care needs, there are various benefits you may be able to claim. One of those is the Attendance Allowance.
    In this video I will explain what the allowance is, who is eligible and how to claim.
    Attendance Allowance is a tax free, non-means tested benefit administered by the Department of Work and Pensions for someone over 65 who suffers from an illness or disability and has care or supervision needs.
    Application form to claim Attendance Allowance: www.gov.uk/government/publica...

    Thanks for this, my mother has dementia and was admitted to a care-home 18 months ago and had I known I would have claimed AA then if I had known, so have lost £8000 I was entitled to - DWP were very efficient in sending me a duplicate letter! stating any back-claim was invalid, but have not settled the claim yet, despite the fact that my mother as terminal AD. I will do my utmost on TH-cam to publicise to others that AA is a right!

    No carer’s allowance for those already on state pension. Tough for old ladies with ailing husbands. Work, work, work through your old age with no breaks, holidays or financial help until you are totally worn out. The Attendance Allowance is paid to the one needing care, not the carer.

    The Government Department responsible for this, put as many y obsticals in the way of actually claiming this. I have tried twiceboth time rejected, yet according to them you have to be bedridden and require a 24 hr nurse. Guidelines are totally thrown away, it boils down to the person looking at your claim and whether they had a good night out the day before. Total waste of time.

    After completing the form would you require a face to face assessment

    • @TheRetirementCafe
      @TheRetirementCafe  ปีที่แล้ว

      You’ll only need to attend an assessment to check your eligibility if it’s unclear how your illness or disability affects you.
      If you do need an assessment you’ll get a letter saying why and where you must go. During the assessment, a medical professional will need to examine you.

    Just been rejected for this.. Had 2 bulging discs and sciatica for 3 years, worked even though I was pensionable age but had to give up last year due to the pain. Sometimes can barely get upstairs and on bad days just rest in bed. Was in hospital few months ago for pain control. Cant drive when on meds so then I cant go out...😔

    MY VIDEOS complains that his/her AA has increased by only 6p. This is tripe, AA is increased at the start of the financial year by the same amounts for all claimants on lower or higher rate.
    Disregard what this person has written!

    Hopeless, him indoors has had a stroke affecting right side, had an artery in the neck cleaned as blocked. Has shaky hands not diagnosed. Unable to wash hair, shower , clean teeth personal care, unable to cook or prepare a simple meal like a sandwich, spills drinks, can’t get up and down stairs. Still said ‘no’ doesn’t fit the criteria and told although 72 mostly older people get it rarely his age. So don’t hold your breath when applying as your life can be seriously compromised and you are still told no.

    • @paulweir5031

      Your AA could not have increased by 6p per day: there are two rates, lower and higher, which since April '22 stand at £61.85 and £92.40 respectively, increased from £60 and £89.60 for the previous financial year.
      I am at a loss to know where your 6p figure was arrived at, perhaps you could look again at your benefits and see where you have miscalculated; then apologize for the misinformation.
