Believe it or not. Many Undertale fans agree the backlash against Mark was uncalled for. Especially since the game *actively encourages playing the way you want.* He did eventually finish it but it felt like more of an obligation at that point.

@@wonderofgaming2798 yea, i've been one of the people that was in the great battle of frisk's gender, after the whole stuff calmed down a lot of people agreed to make their own headcanons about frisk so it was like: believe in what you want to believe, "think frisk is female? Great, i don't think the same so don't force it on me, think frisk is male? Great, i don't think the same so don't force it on me" and that stuff carried over to deltarune chapter 1 release where it was just known as "remember that guy who made undertale? Yea, He made a new game, that's great" most people accepted that kris was male so it stayed that way until chapter 2 came and it exploded, now no one can "misgender" their favorite fictional character, it's annoying being forced to correct something you're already used to, specially because everyone is incredibly mean towards you just because you just want to follow your headcanon, and instantly go into the conclusion that you hate a whole group of people because of it.

Not to mention the fact that there technically are alternate "multiverses" too where multiple AU characters at once are shifted, distorted, shaped, and what have you into something else. A good example of this would be something like Accidentverse or Empireverse. Furthermore, there are even fanmade locations that are treated as a part of the massive AU multiverse (Omniverse?), such as the Doodlesphere, Anti-void, and the Omega Timeline. Speaking as someone who was in the fandom and occasionally thinking about AUs again, words alone are incapable of being an asset to accurately describe the sheer complexity and history of it all. Ever since the AU Boom of 2016, this all had been sprawling and growing, constantly building upon itself, and I feel as though this will only continue further.
Who knows, maybe even at some point in time, Deltarune will have its own intricate web of AUs. It already has a good amount, but not much so far that have made a major impact in the fandom. Considering this has been done once, the chances of another are low, but not zero. I mean, we already have things such as the Salt Route. So maybe it will be something similar, but distinctly different.

The amount of different AUs or similar AUs with their own spin to make them different from others is absolutely insane and although I love Undertale, I don't think I am capable of learning all of the different AUs.
I know Underfell, Underswap, Horrortale, Dusttale, Disbelief, and Handplates, and those are the only AUs I think I can learn fairly well, all the others are a bit too overwhelming for me.
I have only read through all of Handplates though, as well as seen a finished fangame of Dusttale and the video of Disbelief Papyrus.
I have only seen the beginning (Ruins + entrance to Snowdin) of Horrortale, Underswap and Underfell from fangames, so I know nothing of what happens in the rest of the stories of those AUs.
I did find the creator of Horrortale on deviantart with the original comic of Horrortale, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but I definitely want to.
As for Fell and Swap... I don't even know if there's an "official" story anywhere like a comic to show the changes from Undertale, but the fangames I've seen Merg play look really good (especially TS!Underswap) and the best thing would be to play or watch the finished fangames. Which could take several years yet. Same for the Horrortale fangames.

I think a lot of Toby’s popularity in the KickStarter came from his previous works. He was a major part of the Homestuck music team and had fans from the fan games he worked on around the same time. That being said the game itself is still really good and I believe it really has a lot of heart put into it on its own merit regardless of Toby’s prior popularity.

As someone who played Undertale and is/was a big fan of it, it pains me how so many people hurt others because of it. Especially since the game's message was to show mercy/sympathy towards others and not judge.
I read the post of the one who got the cookie. It was because the artist shipped Frisk and Sans together, so the one who wanted to seriously hurt that person (and actually could have ended the person's life) did that because of two fictional characters!
But then, this happens to a lot of very popular media. It escalades, outside people hate the og media because of "fans" that take it too serious.
Honestly, Steven Universe is an equally good example as Undertale, too. My first encounter with it was someone getting death threats because they drew the hair of a gemstone person fluffy.

I had mostly no knowledge, other than "don't kill" for the "good ending" and so did restart once after accidentally killing Toriel. I think in some small part, that is why all the AUs and fancontent spawned so heavily. People are trying to re-create the feeling of experiencing it for the first time, but it can't be done.

31:46 pointing out that Fresh Sans developed from a meme into being almost an ever present interdimensional being. In some comics, he's friends with Ink Sans and Error Sans, two almost godlike beings who create and destroy universes respectively. There's one comic I've seen where Fresh-Characters are actually parasites who have taken over the body of Undertale characters.

    • @skullzans
      @skullzans ปีที่แล้ว +8

Actually uh, IIRC the original creator DID make them as a parasite from early on, if not from the beginning. Its meant to be an inbetween of "What the fuck" and "Funny 90s haha". Also, this video that pat reacted to missed a HUGE thing.
There is 3 sides of the undertale fandom, with very little crossover(of media, not of fans) current days. Those who want to uncover and figure out the main story along with the whole thing about the GASTER and Skelebros stuff, The Standard "Vanilla" AUs like Underfell Underswap or even more advanced ones like Inverted Fate, and the third side which isx what I dub "The Undertale Multiverse". The second layer often crosses over with having information from the first, and the third layer rarely interacts with the first, but uses the second layer as most of the field which they play.
The Undertale Multiverse is its own entire genre and group, and has many classics that go severely underrated. Fresh is one of those, ERROR and Ink is a classic staple of it, CORE, Dream, and Nightmare are deeper into the multiverse-layer of the fandom, but the absolutely amazing things are the mass crossovers like X-Tale and HELP_tale.

The Undertale Multiverse is the best thing the fandom created, and I haven't seen any other fandom do anything similar since. Sure, AU's exist in every fandom. But not to the extend that they do in Undertale! You can think of it, and we probably alredy have it! Swap AU's, apocaliptic au's, MULTIVERSE APOCALIPTIC AU's, horror au's, human au's, god au's, au's that in their own canon only have one character, and spin off au's o those au's, and so on and so on! And it's absolutely glorious!
Sure, there are negative things that happened, but that's sadly just what happens in a fandom this massiv. I personaly prevere focusing on the pure creativity and how amazing it is that we managed to creat a multiverse big enough that some AU's are basically public domain now becouse they got reimagined so often and we all just really liked the idea of pairing them up xD
Just take Error and Ink Sans for example! In every other fandom those would have been written off as cringy OC's, or mokked like Patterz did, asuming they where from someone who want's to spoil other peoples fun. But those two are some of the most popular multiverse characters instead! A beeing that actively tries to destroy AU's, and one that directly works against him? From TWO DIFFERENT CREATORS no less? The fandom took those ideas and ate them up! You can think of it, and the multiverse will make it work in some way shape or form! I absolutely love it!

Speaking of Undertale 2, that's also a thing. A surreal RPGMaker game where Marisa Kirisame of Touhou Project fame gets extremely obsessed with Undertale but can't play it because she lost both her arms. She goes off the deep end and roboticizes friends, bystanders and herself; hires actors to roleplay as characters; and systematically abducts villagers and brainwashes them to think they're Frisk in order to create an Undertale sequel in real life. Despite the absurdist humour, it's a surprisingly fun time... except the Ignoramus route, which basically amounts to testing your patience for how badly you want to annoy "Flowey" when they tell you it really is kill or be killed and later call you out on sparing "Tutariel" after you had fought so many monsters.

I joined the fandom pretty late, only 3 years ago and after hearing all of the toxic history of the fandom I'm glad I waited! I really do think that the community has been tamed down massively, especially since its fanbase has grown up after 7 years of its existance. The Deltarune community is proof of that, it's been mostly chill! After being here for years I can safely say this is also just one of the most artistically creative fandoms out there and I LOVE IT! Fanart, animaitons, fan music, fanfics, fangames, etc, everything! Every piece just seems to inspire another piece and it just multiplies so freaking fast- you rarely get bored here lol. I will say the AUs have kind of become their own separate fandom (UTMV: Undertale Multiverse) that I rarely interact with, but that's another mega-creative circle that is worth at least peeking at. Especially Jakei's "Underverse," it's really good!! :D
Undertale's big detriment was becoming too big for its own good, and its a fear I have for Deltarune too, especially since it's looking to also be a pretty amazing story, maybe even surpasing its predecessor. The community seems to have a good handle on it for now, but once the next few chapters come out, its probably gonna be pure chaos :/ I'm just hoping that people actually take the hint that we're not the same community as before, and hope that they're willing to keep this community's name clean and not repeat the same damn mistakes from the past. Other than that, if you reaaaally want to avoid all drama, just stick to a small circle of fans and creators you trust. That's really the only way to keep a really good and clean fandom experience.

If you want to see the real overpowered stuff, check out universes like AlphaTale, with almost no power ceiling and characters like Error404 calling themselves the god of the multiverse and forcing characters like Ink and Error to be their servants. I remember that my first introduction to the Undertale Au's was thanks to Underverse(The animated series that was mentioned).I didn't have any idea who any of them were and...Well, it got me interested enough to investigate and get inmersed in the enormous world that that is.
After been for a while in that fandom and falling in love(Like, really liking them, not in a romantic way) with several Sanses, I decided to make a story of my own.I'll probably not do anything with it, it was just for the fun, but I wanted to write it well, so I made a lot of research for each one of them. That led me to realize how much the fandom has altered a lot of Au's, like DreamTale or UnderSwap and have turned the Sanses or even the storyline in something completly different.
I don't know if you're still reading this, but my point is, that after reading a lot about most of the Au's that appear in Underverse, I have realized that the characters are REALLY well portraid, at least from my point of view.I would really recomend watching it even if you don't really know much about anything. The animation starts being great but it just gets better and better every episode(A new one has been released not long ago and OMG), and the plot is...really interesting, to say the least.
If you end up giving it a watch, I would be pleased to give you a little summary of each of the Au's that appear (I don't think it's actually that many, maybe 10, and some of them are simple to understand)

honestly, undertale was the first time ever where AU's were created that were not only not looked down upon by both outsiders AND the community, it ended up being encouraged, all because the narrative undertale went for AND the meta elements worked in AU's favor.
the funniest part being, that undertale is technically an AU itself, since deltarune was originally what toby wanted to make, but deciding it was too ambitious decided to make undertale using certain characters he planned for deltarune...and THAT is what resulted in W.D. gasters "removal" and why it was so fascinating, because he was more then just an element removed from a game...his removal was CANON to the series.

People get this mixed a lot.
A lot of ideas from Undertale where cut, which ended up being used on Deltarune.
Deltarune is basically Toby's way of using all of those ideas (he said as much when he released the strange "SURVEY_PROGRAM"). But it wasn't a game before Undertale
It's also hinted that Noelle's father is canon to Undertale (altho he died way before the events of the game. Perhaps before Asgore even married Toriel.) As mentioned in the unreleased alarm clock app that has post pacifist lore.
Susie is also mentioned in the Switch version of Undertale as a secret.
And ofc, there's also the delta rune itself. Whose origins where "lost to time" according to Gerson

    • @Shythalia
      @Shythalia 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@rompevuevitos222 I wasn't saying he made Deltarune first. I meant that Deltarune was what he wanted to create first but had trouble programming & coding it, so he worked on making Undertale instead. Since Undertale became a success, he could finally work on Deltarune and here we are today.
Maybe Deltarune wasn't even originally the name of that first game he wanted to make and only changed it to Deltarune after Undertale was done.
Some of the character designs in Deltarune were inspired by card drawings made by an artist years before Undertale. Those drawings were what made Toby want to create Deltarune but again, had trouble so he did Undertale. He probably originally even wanted to put those inspired character designs into Undertale, including those concept arts of Susie. So basically, Undertale wouldn't exist if it weren't for him wanting to create Deltarune.
Toby also mentioned this profound dream he had years before Undertale also and that's what really led him to want to make Deltarune in the first place. He said something about the ending of Deltarune is what was in his dream.
The residents of the town weren't even originally supposed to be our beloved Monsters from Undertale. They were originally going to be humans. I can't remember exactly why he changed it. Maybe it was just convenient? And like you said, he also decided to use those cut Undertale content into Deltarune.
I already know about the delta rune symbol from Undertale, which is where we all first heard of the "delta rune", and I know Susi was mentioned by Clam Girl.

I literally only learned of Undertale through the fan content- not even animations or so but literally Gacha Life videos of characters reacting to undertale and the AUs (yes i was a weird kid dont judge) but its insane how far of a reach undertale and the whole community has into every crevice of the internet.

Look at flowerfell, great story, but the creator was hated for how it was perceived as a frans story when it was purely platonic, or people wanting it to be a frans story and threatening the creator to change it.

TS Underswap papyrus, not to be confused with underswap papyrus, is a different thing, sort of.
TS Stands for team switch, as the name suggests, it swaps the motives. so sans is kinda lazy as always, while papyrus still being, well uh, papyrus.. though they still remain the swapped judge and.. papyrus roles.

I had trouble getting into Undertale, and quit and refunded the game even. On a later date i wanted to retry and bought the game on a sale and forced myself to play, and in the end it became one of my favorite games. But it can be hard to get into it.
One thing i find funny is that some people thought it was an horror game at first, before it was out, because when you know nothing about it the screenshots made it look like a horror for some reason in my brain, but i heard this a lot at the time. But things like creepy Sans art did also not help with people who did not know the game yet

    "Gamers love grinding"
A fellow shiny hunter said that.
    So true.
Currently hunting in Dark Cave for either a Shiny Teddiursa or Duncsparce.
Good luck on your runs of Undertale, Deltarune, and shiny hunts

Undertale is my hyperfixation and the amount if media I can find is very impressive.
I love Undertale with all my heart, I love most of the fan base too even if there's a small portion that completely warped the characters.
I know more about Undertale lore than anyone else on this earth and you can try to prove me wrong, I will be waiting for the day our battle will begin.
Anyway I hope you all stay hydrated and have an amazing day

about toby's position on undertale, iirc, i think you're kinda right. kinda the same way with scott cawthon and fnaf. they're the internet's games now, and they're okay with that. i believe toby tried to make it very apparent that deltarune was separate from undertale for that very reason.

He stated that it wouldn't be the same experience (because replicating the feeling that Undertale caused would be impossible), but a lot of content that's new to Deltarune is also canon to Undertale.
Like Rudy (Noelle's father) and the mention of Susie in the Nintendo Switch port.

The only time a developer really tell poeple not to do lets plays is copyright or striking the video because of music or content. It is a major hit to video makers.

Yes in uncharted you play as Nathan Drake the man that if he touches anything it will immediately collapse because karma has it out for him. Or he's really fat despite appearances. Or the land is incredibly brittle
