If watching the Garfield video was like realizing that what seemed to be just another property was actually an infinitely large horror of pure malice, Undertale is similar, but instead of being a malicious being, it is a cold, apathetic, infinite void that has become so big that it terrifies it's own creator. Undertale is the "do you think god stays in heaven because he too fears what he has created," joke
Toby Fox was a big name in the Homestuck fandom (he was part of the official music team), and the seed of the Undertale fandom was the Homestuck fandom. For anyone who's old enough to remember the days when Homestuck was a relevant name on the internet, that should help explain a few things about why the Undertale fandom is the way it is.

That makes so much sense! I never read Homestuck, but I am aware of a Homestuck version of Megalovania. I always assumed that came later, since it seemed likely that Toby Fox would like Homestuck if he had made something like Undertale. But was that actually released before Undertale was?
@@sterlingmuse5808 Megalovania predates Undertale with its appearance in Homestack, and it predates its appearance in Homestuck when Toby "Radiation" Fox wrote it for his Earthbound Halloween Hack back in 2008. It's kind of ancient by internet standards. He composed Megalovania when he was still a kid in high school and started doing covers and composing for Homestuck from the first year it released in 2009.
Homestuck is definitely the large majority of the initial fanbase, but it's actually interesting just how many weird fandoms Toby's connected to. He's made several Touhou remixes even before Undertale (and just off the Bad Apple trend alone you can probably already gauge the kookiness of the Touhou fandom) and I'd imagine some of them probably carried over, however little, into the initial Undertale fandom. There's also the fact he worked on a ton of Earthbound fan games and I think even some ROM hacks? So there's also a chance of some Earthbound fans being part of the initial fandom as well, and Earthbound is pretty much a dimension of weird that speaks for itself. Hell, Toby even made a Brodylovania remix at one point so it's also possible some lemon demon fans got interest in Undertale solely because of that somehow, I don't think I need to explain Lemon Demon's weirdness at all. Toby's just a melting pot of weirdness, and his games, and consequently his fandom reflects that very, very well.

If Garfield is an eternal omnipresent being that has brought their own creator to their knees. Then the Undertale Fandoms (yes plural) are an ever expanding abyss that have caved in on themselves only to expand even further threatening to even eclipse the universe itself with their ever expanding vastness. The best way I have heard to describe the Undertale Fandoms is this: "There is a Fandom for the Fandom of the Undertale Fandom" and let me tell you, what you have seen is merely a taste of the beginning.
Wait... would the first fanfiction in history technically be cave paintings, where the early human lives exaggerated illustrations of their daily gathering tasks and hunting wild creatures?
Technically no? Because that removes the *fan* in fanfiction, and it's just fiction. Fanfiction is a creation that stems from someone else's work, using elements from their creation into one's own creation that goes past the term "inspiration".

@@jacobsmith4428Why I consider The Iliad one of the first fanfics. Why did this plot thread happen and have a ton of focus without any real connection to the story... well at the time it was a popular tale of the region, so add that in for some fanservice.
Just a small clarification here, the "No Mercy" and "Genocide" runs are actually different. "No Mercy" is just the worst outcome of the Neutral run, where you kill everyone you encounter. "Genocide" is like he described, actively farming every area until you run out of encounters, killing literally everyone.

I think you would like TheLoadingCrew's "What D&D Alignment is ..." A series looking at character's through whatever medium they're in (show, movie, video game etc.) and counting their actions and shifting them on the alignment chart accordingly. They even have an episode on Undertale, looking at all the major characters.

Unfortunately, our buddy Wolf is a bit wrong here. Dreemurr Reborn has never made it as a fan game. The development has not finished due to reasons unknown, and we were stuck with a plenty of comics about this scenario made beforehand.

It was videos like this that made me regret not playing Undertrale 1st had, especially as it was probably one of the very few games I could have actually played on a machine that instead of a GPU, had 512mb of *videoRAM.*
Once I saw it was good I should have stopped watching and looking ... but then I did exactly the same with Inscryption.
Undertale, Is one of those games, that gives you the experience of something new and interesting but will always be one step ahead of you every time until your run it dry to the bone and feast on it's flesh.
I as well as I assume many of your viewers would love to see you finish the video. It's probably one of the most well made videos on the subject out there.
Seeing a fresh perspective of Undertale is so interesting to me as a person who's childhood was so deeply influenced by it.
2:02 yes, its the same toby fox on top of the project, although he found it easier and better for the project to leave the chunk of coding to people that actually know how to code.
We know that Toby fox, Temmie Chang and 3 Main devs are working on Deltarune at all times, with ocassional outside help from time to time.

25:51 i don't have a playlist but after ifinish waching the video i'll go find some of the best animations and coment the links to them on another coment(even though you probably don't need them anymore)
I had a neutral route ending my first playthrough where I killed a few of the main characters like Toriel and Undyne and never visited papyrus or anyone after so it hit hard when Papyrus immediately said I should meet Undyne or when sans said if it weren't for Toriel Sans would have killed me right away (Which given I killed Toriel I was very intimidated) and it hit hard at the end but I spared flowery to try and redeem myself. My 2nd playthrough I did full pacifist and when I reached the ending I was satisfied and just left without doing genocide or anything and haven't looked back (Also my last save had all 5 on the time which I screenshot so it was just satisfying.) Never opened that door in the snow area.
If You want to check some interesting videos and animations. For example my favorites Undertale animations are GlitchTale and Underverse (But that one is kind messed up for someone who barely knew the Undertale or Fanmades and Fangames)
For maximun context I reccomend watching one of the playthroughs of Undertale. JackSepticEye's is in particular a good one.

Fun fact: sans canonically can't actually see multiple timelines or resets, he just knows there are many of them and relies on context clues and subtle shifts in reality similar to his shortcuts to know if a save/load has occured. In his Judgement hall during a pacifist=neutral run doing it five times in a row in the same save file will actually lend you his 'secret password' which is unknown to us but one he told to Frisk specifically, and on the last load Frisk tells it to him, confirming his suspicions about them and unlocking a secret found behind his and Papyrus' house
Also, compared to just one Genocide and Pacifist ending each, there are several Neutral endings depending on the order of enemies you kill, who you spared and which area you did a no mercy on will affect the underground after you leave without breaking the barrier
Fun fact: Undyne's boss theme in Genocide route is titled "Battle Against a TRUE HERO"

The Genocide route is ironically the closest we get to a "true" canonical ending bcs of how it recontextualizes Frisk's ability and willingness to reset the timeline and bcs once you've done a genocide run your future pacifist/neutral runs are permanently altered in both obvious and subtle ways with horrific implications

Just like in other games, when you do something in Undertale, a flag is set. The difference with Undertale is that when you start a new game, the flag data from your previous save is backed up in a separate file. During interactions with characters like Sans and Flower, those who display the self-awareness that a lot of people seem to overstate with regards to the game, the game can reference this backed up flag data. The initial meeting with Sans isn't even the first instance of it. After the battle with Toriel, Flowey takes the opportunity to mock you if you choose to spare her. if you killed her by accident when trying to figure out how to spare her, then reload the save and succeed later, Flowey specifically references this.

As someone who played this game on a nintendo switch and an xbox 1 controller i can say. Undyne and sans are absolutely horrible. But after days of mental pain tears and many broken controllers. I beat them and i resetted back to the save point just to beat em again my muscle memory was so good in those fight i managed to beat the game 2 full times without saving or taking damage. At least not in game damage but sure as hell was mental damage

When you get to the second half of the video, you'll see there's a reason why I refuse to interact with the fandom of most things I like, and, even then, usually only about the main [thing].
I personally have only played UNDERTALE after having played deltarune chapter 1 and 2 and been in the fandom just as long. You can still see some scars from the bad shit of the fandom but for the most part it’s pretty tame now. Most of the negative posts and comments I see are from before I came into the fandom. The only big thing that is still going on is Camilla Cuevas (the creator of the popular very well animated fan series with multiple seasons „GLITCHTALE“) apparently being friends with a pedophile. But that’s the only thing I can think of that is going on nowadays. Or maybe I’ve just been living under a rock. Okay. Another thing is shipping content. Because it’s still being made and always will be.

its called "Yakuza is Stupid and Beautiful and I Love it!". If you arent familiar to the yakuza games, this can help you get up to speed on getting interested in the franchise itself. I personally am a Fan of the Yakuza franchise and goddammit, its stories make me cry at times. its really emotional. the drama and the cinemtography is just next level. the kind of Cinema-Gaming Mixture is well made.

Yeah when you get the time, you really should take a look at Undertale Shots: Chara vs Mettaton Neo and Undertale Shots: Flowey's Transformations by the very talented animator NCHProductions. The guy's creations are insane and very underrated.

I've enjoyed playing games like Deus Ex Human Revolution and Dishonored and playing non-lethal runs all the way through.
It might be hard to send you the actual source for several of the works mentioned as the users that originated Underfell (which is actually a play on the username underfeller) and Underswap deleted their accounts and some of the more popular animations are *seasons* long so it'd be hard to actually catch up to the video beforehand, though it doesn't give spoilers.
I can give you the next best thing for the AUs and animated versions, though.
RynoGG made a series of mockups of an Underfell videogame that, will a bit awkward at the beginning, is looks very convincing and I find it really charming. Ryno is also making a Deltarune (which may be becoming its own rabbit hole thanks to the suspense of what will happen in the future chapters inspiring a lot of fanon) fangame called Deltatraveler whose Chapter 3 is meant to take place in their version of Underfell.
Man On The Internet has made Undertale The Musical. It's slightly altered to account for the fact that, as a musical, it's not being played yet it still manages to be a really fun viewing experience.
I'm probably not the first nor the last person to say this, but you should play Undertale. Just this video seems to really make you love Undertale, so you should experience it.

You can beat the game in 6 hours, but a full playthrough takes about 3 runs through the game to get the three major endings.
And then add in the fact neutral has 24 unique variations, all of which are great.
I would still highly recommend playing the original game despite the spoilers that you already took. It probably won’t be the best experience because of the spoilers but I think you will still have fun. The game only costs 15 bucks so it’s not very expensive. You will have more context from having played the game. The base game besides the no mercy route isn’t particularly hard so don’t worry about that. Toby Fox added some features to the game to help people play the pacifist route. Though it may not be obvious what such feature is. You can also spam your inventory with good healing items using money gained from repeatedly farming encounters and sparing them. (You get money from sparing enemies.)
Also UNDERTALE was made programmed, written and composed for by 1 person. „Toby Fox“. He was helped with the sprite work by Temmie Chang and some minor character designs (like Muffet) were from his Kickstarter supporters. deltarune is a game with a lot of the same as UNDERTALE but in an alternate universe to tell a different story is being worked on by a team of people while still being controlled by Toby Fox to make development faster on this larger game. Toby has created no other games than UNDERTALE and deltarune.
As for fan content I am more interested in unique writing even though there are a lot of cool animations out there.
A less known fan work but imo the best UNDERTALE fan project when it comes to writing is INVERTED FATE. It takes the scenario where you fight Asriel in the pacifist route and changes it up so he wins the battle and accidentally creates a new world with „new content“ to explore with the human (and everyone else besides Flowey and another character) remembering nothing about the previous timeline. Though, it is a sprite webcomic (for the most part) that takes (I think) over 2 days to binge if you do nothing but eat, sleep and go to the toilet. And it’s not even finished. For the final arc they have moved to video format and new episodes are still WIP. So I don’t think that’s something you’ll make a reaction out of if you check it out unless you wanna make it a very long series. (I kinda still hope that someone will blind react to the entire comic at some point because I would love to see that. The same goes for covers of the INVERTED FATE OST.) The comic can be found on it’s own website wich can be easily searched for on your browser.
And I would also recommend you check out the UnderEvent TH-cam channel wich is a channel that holds yearly presentations in the style of a Nintendo Direct to show off new fan content focusing on series like fan games, animation series, comics and more. There have been 2 of these presentations so far. One in 2021 and one in 2022. I would recommend watching them if you wanna see more longer fan content of UNDERTALE and deltarune.
In general I think that the fandoms strong suits are music and animation/artworks. It’s weak suits are creativity and writing wich is lacking a lot. GLITCHTALE, probably „the“ most popular fan series is a C tier in writing imo. + it’s creator is friends with a pedophile who isn’t willing to become a better person.
