Yep that’s pretty much what Splatoon is. Surprisingly deep and dark lore for a game about shooting ink at each other. Part of the reason why I love the series so much.

The details about Octavio brainwashing his own troops have been called into question by people who noticed that the glasses the octolings have don't quite look the same as the ones Callie has and also because Marina, despite leaving of her own free will, still has stickers that reference Octavio. It implies she still respects him and was allowed to resign.
i don’t think she resigned considering official reports say she disappeared or something. still pretty nice of them to just let her walk out without pursuit though.

There is no octo brainwashing. Only anti inkling propaganda. The only person that got brainwashed is Callie. The sunglasses on the octoling soldiers is just to have a hud to look at
Yeah apparently the Octoling's obedience is caused by indoctrination not mind control. But the Calamari Inkantation showed them that maybe the Inklings are cool too in the end.
Agent 8 also respects him, as his Mem Cake shows that 8 feels sorry for leaving him.
By the way, the reason why Octavio became an octopus permanently is to preserve his ink production powers. As you get older it gets harder to produce ink. For example captain cuttlefish can’t produce it anymore and as such cant turn back into squid form

Hmm, the mind control shades are more of a theory than fact thought. Yes, calli is indeed wearing hypno shades, but as far as we know that's the only pair that actually exists. It is speculated by fans the shades octoling wear might have mind control abilities as well, but seeing how much octolings seem to respect Octavio and don't seem to hold any animosity towards him, it's somewhat unlikely all of them were mindcontrolled.
One thing that wasn't mentioned is how Marina was a genius in Octavio's army who left his army after hearing the Squid Sister's performance and met up with Pearl

Fun fact: Respawn platforms are an actual thing that exist in the Splatoon universe to explain why the Inklings and Octolings die but not really because kids game I think.

Cuttlefish nearly dies from dehydration in Splatoon 3, I’m assuming from having his bodily fluids taken by Grizz. There’s also a mummified squid attached to one of the Sunken Scrolls. So idk.
@@captainblue5096 Pretty sure its either by old age or you're in an area that doesn't have a respawn platform or point considering the final events of Octo Expansion. Old age seems likely, but that last part is basically confirmed... considering everyone's surprising amount of concern when you do get splatted in that area.
@@BudderCobi My personal headcannon is that your ink tank can be "connected" to a respawn point, and you will respawn there whenever you get splatted. Because Agent 8 left to the HQ in a hurry and didn't have their gear on them, and the HQ is a restricted area, they weren't able to "connect" to any spawn point, so if they get splatted there they actually die.
The age 17 for squid sisters comes from a translation for one of the songs they perform (splatoon music lore goes hard, don't look into it). In one post about the specific song (can't remember the name, but it's the credit song for splatoon 1), they say that it's best performed in the transition between childhood and adulthood.
Why shouldn’t I look into Splatoon music lore? Could it be the fact that every creature but inklings are pretty much considered second or third class?

second comment: the way octavio broke out and callie subsequently got hypnoshaded is that he actually *convinced her that letting a known war criminal out of prison was a good idea*. she did it for the octarians out of pity, and then he almost immediately put the hypnoshades on her and didn’t let her leave.
for your question about octaio and cuttlefish living for so long, your theory seems to be correct in regards to octavio(he is probably unable to change into octoling form due to old age), and as for cuttlefish, he uses a technique called "sun drying" or something like that to stay alive longer(he's 130 years old), though it means a lot of the ink in his body dried up so he can't become a squid anymore.
something that wasn't mentioned: octarians trade their weapons and technology with salmonids in exchange for their power eggs, which are pretty good power sources. though the salmonids are unwilling to trade their golden eggs because they're valuable to them, which is why you take them by force in salmon run.
there's plenty more lore tidbits the og video missed or got slightly wrong, but that's pretty much all you need to know.

Based on the design of the golden eggs as well, along with how fiercely the Salmonids defend them, it's highly likely that the golden eggs are the Salmonid's fertilized eggs. Which has even _more_ unsettling implications, as if the Splatoon series didn't already have enough of those, lol.
This was a pretty good explanation of Splatoon lore. As a Splatoon fan, there's some stuff I want to talk about that is just neat.
Time in the Splatoon world flows the same as in our world. Splatoon 1 came out in 2015, and Inklings in that game were said to be about 14, making Agent 3 in Splatoon 3 21 years old canonically. Callie and Marie are at least 2 years older than Agent 3, mostly due to them just looking older in the first game. They're in their early 20's now. Marina was 18 in Splatoon 2, and Pearl was canonically 21. Yep, the shortest idol is the oldest. (And you can safely look up R34 without feeling immoral about it)
The Salmonids (not Salmonoids, idk where the dude got the extra letter from) are actually eaten by Inklings and Octolings. They're 100% fine with this though, and see it as an honorable way to go. They even carry around things like frying pans and use food imagery (like giant forks in the background of stages) to make them seem more appetizing. Yep, the sentient salmon species likes being eaten. This isn't Splatoon lore, it's Splatoon... vore...?
There are a number of different bands in Splatoon, and they all exist in universe. The music we hear during battle is also diegetic because of this. Some of the more notable bands are the Squid Sisters, Off the Hook, and Deep Cut, but there are also others like Squid Squad and Chirpy Chips, the latter using old technology like game systems to make chiptune-esque music. Chirpy Chips is actually really notable because the lead singer, Harmony, now runs one of the shops in Splatoon 3, Hotlantis. She's also the best character in the series and nobody can convince me otherwise.
Splatoon has had some interesting collabs, most notably with CoroCoro magazine and the Squid Girl (Ika Musume) anime. Splatoon 1 included Squid Girl's outfit, and there's official crossover art of her with the Inkling Girl.
There are weapons in the game that are replicas of the Nintendo Zapper light gun from the NES. Yep, the same gun people used to shoot ducks in Duck Hunt is now used to paint floors with bodily fluids. LORE!
According to I believe a Japanese art book, there was a huge rave held in which many people went missing. I don't know if this is intended to be canon, but it's interesting to think about.

I'm sure it was probably a rassicas video. The info originally though most likely came from either a Japan exclusive interview or an art book. Just look for "rassicas Salmon Run" and you might find it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, it was a good while ago that I learned this.
And Nintendo as a company somehow still exists in Inkling society, and makes the Zapper weapons as well as like Bomb Launchers or something. And the Mario game series also still exists and is fairly popular apparently.

There’s actually some inaccuracies or pieces of information that aren’t covered in the video. The first is the fact that Turf Wars weren’t a thing before the Great Turf War, as Cuttlefish freaks out when Marina and Pearl mention them in Octo Expansion, the single player mode with all the stuff with 8. DJ Octavio’s Shades also seem to have no influence on Octolings aside from the Shades that Callie wears. Octavio instead only uses music like the Squid Sisters do with Calamari Inkantation. The other has to do with the Salmonoids. Yes, we don’t know the true intentions of Mr Grizz, but the Salmonoids actually don’t fear death, and instead embrace it. Even more, they want to be eaten, as they see it as an honorable way to go out. That’s why they attack with pans and other food related items. But aside from that and other minor points that don’t mean much in the long run, this video is actually very accurate and includes a bunch of stuff that aren’t in the games like the nuking of the Polar Ice Caps or how Marina and Pearl meet up.

So one thing about salmoniods I should mention is that in many stages such as mako mart there are shelves of frozen salmon. The reason being is that salmoniods are very barbaric warriors (kinda) who if they get eaten they see that as a worthy way of going out, one of their machines that they use being the griller (yes a giant grill) they are actually cooking themselves alive so they can be eaten.
The salmonids aren't actually barbaric I know about a channel that is great for splatoon lore that you can fine by looking for is pretty easily they have a great video on them

Just a small rant but why do some people always look at the name Marie and immediately think Mary? They are completely different names with completely different ways of saying them. Calling Marie by the name Mary also ruins the Calamari joke between the two.
I generally pronounce Marie as "muh-ree" (like Mareep without the p); saying "mah-ree" isn't very intuitive unless you know the joke.

Agreed. I've NEVER heard anyone pronounce the name Marie as Mary until Splatoon. It should be pronounced like Marie Antoinette. I get the joke is "Calamari," but Mari and Marie are different names, and Callie isn't something weird like Cala.
It's just a set of pun names, and yet I can't help but get upset when people call her Mary.

the salmonids are typically very bloodthirsty, they even showed footage of a once a month event where they attack the city and you fight them off (with the side mode pve) we are still wondering what is with our salmonid friendo, but... probably a small outlier of the species, still wanting to know more, can't wait

Dunno if anyone said it yet but the reason why Agent 8 was called, well, that is not because that Octopus has 8 limbs but because the phone gave A8 the "visitor" number 10008 and Captain Cuttlefish was like "LMAO let's call you Agent 8 because the end of the serial number has 8 to make it short instead of Agent 10008 lol"

I recommend reacting to or at least watching all Splatoon Bosses next, that might give you more of a idea of how this Series works so far.
I wouldn't really recommend it. The bosses aren't really important in the grand scheme of things, and also looking them up, ESPECIALLY on stream, has a high chance of spoiling the story mode for Splatoon 3, especially since the game isn't even out yet.

There's actually a few misconceptions in this video based on theories alone. Very incorrect theories. The hypno shades were only used on callie. Either caitlin coi or rasscias covered it in a recent video. If it is Caitlin coi then it was her Splatoon music iceberg video.
The octolings don't actually need the hypno shades because of the severly high amount of propoganda that they experience. It also never mentioned who the agressor was between agent 3 and agent 8. It only mentions that they fought.
Just want to add on, the statue with the giant laser is actually the Statue of Liberty, I’m not sure why he doesn’t mention that at all

Yeah that's the coolest thing I've ever seen in a game. The Final Splatoon 2 splatfest pitted players against eachother for either Chaos or Control to decide the fate of the future, aka, Splatoon 3. Which is also why Splatoon 3's ranked mode is called Anarchy battles

I do want to clarify that the whole Octolings being brainwashed thing is actually not explicitly stated at all. In fact, it’s actually shown that Octolings willingly fight for Octavio (Marina has a DJ Octavio sticker on her computer, if she was brainwashed, why would she keep that? Also, the DJ Octavio memcake confirms that Agent 8 still respects Octavio. The last bit of evidence is official art of Agent 3 taking an Octoling’s goggles and the Octoling is kind of annoyed and gesturing for 3 to give them back). What the Calamari Inkantation actually does is motivate and give determination. It gives the Octarians the determination to leave their oppressive lives
Some details were explained a little badly or inaccurately, some inaccurate because of new splatoon 3 information that wasn't available at that time, but for the most part the video does get a lot of things correct.

Bonus Splatoon 2 facts: Whichever team wins the Splatfest, is officially declared superior by law.
Not long after Agent 8 escaped the Deep Sea Metro, a Splatfest was held. Its theme? Inkling vs Octoling. Marina noted that it could be dangerous. And Inkling won.
Racism is completely legal in Inkling society. But fortunately for Octolings, modern Inklings are too dumb to tell them apart, and too hedonistic and uncaring about history, making them literally incapable of sustaining racism as a species. Must be nice. When Octolings began ignoring the results of the Great Turf War and began blending back into Inkling society, the Inklings just welcomed them back with open arms, and treated them as equals.
This is likely a result of the Calamari Inkantation. The version we hear in game is actually a Squid Sisters remix of an old folk song, its melody burnt into the DNA of all sea life since time immemorial. The song itself has powers that aren't fully understood. When Marina heard it, witnesses recall her saying "This changes everything" before she'd vanish from Octo Canyon, succesfully blending back into Inkling society and facing zero backlash even after her identity as an Octoling was outed.
