  • One Veterans view on the subject as to whether or not we feel disrespected or think civilians shouldn’t train or wear the same type of gear as the military does.
While everything we do is based on warfare, our country’s history is reason to never let your guard slip. Train as much as you can and get the best gear available that’s within your price range. In fact, I think more civilians have better equipment that we do. We’re governed by instructions and publications while the civilian sector is governed by their bank accounts. I know that there are state and local laws, but none of them are too much on gear like vests, helmets and night vision.

Civilian readiness programs depend on content put out by guys like you. I have personally met a few guys who have a condescending attitude toward regular joes kitting up and training with nods. Its unfortunate because we depend on eache other, but depend heavily on real warriors with real experience to share thier knowlege with us. Thank you for youre service.

I think it's good and actually helps the military by allowing for new ideas and innovation that starts in the civilian market. Then the military quickly finds interest in these things and often it spreads it's way into the special forces communities that gives operators a tactical advantage. The AR15 platform is evidence of that. Just compare the basic M16/M4 rifles from the early 2000's to newer AR's and how it has drastically improved.

Exactly. Competition shooters are the ones who train the majority of special operations troops to help us shoot better.

Unfortunately our government could care less if all vets are homeless. Our government has got to do better with taking care of our vets.

I agree. I’m getting the run around right now with VA stuff. Once I retired, they seemed not to care very much about me at all.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. I don't like civilians or former military wearing pieces of uniforms. I might wear an ACU jacket to cut my grass. This is rare, like I might have done it once or twice. In public at a store no. As for training, it's ok. As long as they understand that they are not actual military members.

Not even former members? Thats a bit of a stretch for me. I still have mine and authorized to wear it under certain circumstances as a retiree. Maybe if they’re not discrediting the uniform or performing stolen valor. The training part is where I really don’t mind. Most civilians have more Gucci gear than I was issued. Maybe not all of what I haven’t but the majority of what’s sold on the market.

@@PhDarien You can wear your dress uniform on certain occasions. What I was referring to was the duty uniform. BDU ACU desert uniforms.

My pet peeve as a former Army grunt is all the "operator" mentality that's gassing people up. And as a sidenote, a lot of these types who took it to the next level as war tourists going to Ukraine either realized they bit off more than they can chew, return home maimed or toe-tagged all for war clout.

I see your points. War sells. I thinks it’s a phase to younger men to seek out some glory somehow. Thanks for your service
