    Was thinking about picking up a Dual Dark locally; this sealed the deal. That thing sounds fantastic. TVerb is amazing too, thanks for the vid!

    Gotta thank you for the vid, helped me decide to pick up a Thunderverb 50. Thing fuckin' rips. DD really does sound like a gainier TV to my ears.

    Ok, this got away from me a bit here, so bare with me lol.
    Man, I appreciate this comp very much. I've long-loved the Thunderverb 200, and to me it's just unparalleled (and criminally under-appreciated). I've had many a debate friends - my position being that the Thunderverb is the best amp for metal... or at least what I like to hear from a metal guitar personally (almost exclusively ch2 w/ LIGHT touch of Tube Screamer btw, shaped to say 7 o'clock). To most people it seems like an odd choice for "best", but the way it sits in a mix - especially when panned vs a Mesa Dual Rec - man, fucking magic happens. (IMHO)
    Now, admittedly I'm sort of an old hat at this point. So when I say "metal", I'm generally thinking "Big 4 era" and their ilk - not so much the djent, or super low-tuned stuff of today. Idk how this amp would respond for that stuff. My guess would be a little muddy, but that's purely speculation. I generally tune to D# (and even occasionally standard). But look, if you want to hear A REALLY good example of this beast of an amplifier (even paired with a Dual Rec, no less!) hop over to Spotify & check out "Deliverance" from C.O.C. If that "kind of grungy but still crisp & articulate"/"grimy-groove" sound is something you'd dig, at least for certain stuff, then you absolutely can't go better than the Thunderverb 200.
    With aaaaallll of that said lol, this comp is making me want to take a much closer look at the Dual Dark! I really liked it here when compared directly with my favorite amp, and I immediately started hearing ideas for those tones in my head. It may be just what I need to flesh out some ideas that just never sounded quite right to me. So thanks for this! Great job friend. Subbed immediately 💯

    The Dual Dark is based off the Dark Terror, which is based off the Thunderverb. We’ve come full circle. 😉

    TVerb sounds meaner. I like it more, but Oranges all sound amazing so it's just preference at this point.

    Dark A 3:00 sounds like Thunder B 5:30 to me, wonder if that's intentional..

      I have both amps. The Thunderverb has a lot more low end but a lot less gain than the DD. The Thubderverb can be used as a bass amp afterall.

    Why have the DD's been discontinued? I may have missed the boat on this one unless they bring it back.

      They didn't sell very well. They were very expensive to buy new - more so than the rockerverbs, which i think is why they didnt do so well. Interest in them has picked up a lot over the past couple of years especially since Matt Pike named it as his fav Orange head.

    What tuning are you playing? I have a DD100 aswell and thought about getting an od808 to push it

      Drop C CGCFAD. I've tried ALOT of tubescreamer variants and the OD808 is by far my favorite.

    General question
    Do your power tubes in the thunderverb glow blue ?

    • @SMArants
      @SMArants  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No - thats a sign that they're getting too strong of a bias current. Best to get it serviced or you'll wear those tubes out pretty quick.

    Do you run the Thunderverb in the 200w or 100w mode? Does the 100w mode affect the tone in compairson to the 200w mode?
    I have a Orange vintage cab with 4 Celestion G12H and todal 120w on 16 ohm. I will use it in the 100w mode for Sludge/Doom. Do you think this is the right amp for this kind of music?

    • @SMArants
      @SMArants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100w. 200w is only beneficial for bass in my opinion.
      You'd go find with a Thunderverb for those styles.

    How much would you take for the dual dark? Little more than 3k?

    • @TuneLow_DieSlow

      I got my Dual Dark 50 for about 900 Euro. Normally they are traded for about 1.200 -1.400 EUR. But the amps are worth this price. Heavy as shit, both the weight and the sound.

    • @SMArants
      @SMArants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thats way too much. I paid 1100 AUD for mine, definitely wont be selling it anytime soon though.

      @@SMArants Dude the Rockshop here in New Zealand (our equivalent of Woolies for music stores) is trying to flog off the last of their DD50's for $3,300 NZ / $3,100 AUD. We get flogged over here aye. Might have to pick one up from Melbs when the 'rona buggers off.

    • @SMArants
      @SMArants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@panic_chords mine was a used purchase. But yeah, that sounds like a steep price. Buying new in Aus/NZ tends to be a bit of a steep investment, i'd probably hold out for used one if i was you.

      I also own a Dual Dark 100, and what really opens up the tone besides boosting is running a Guptec Quebec Ped EQ through the efx loop. Which adds in the missing Depth and Presence knobs( Exactly like what the Peavey 5150/6505's have had for decades in those amps).
