I think you have the best ASOIAF vids because you discuss the more abstract and thematic elements of the story and present them in an understandable context, despite the interpretative nature of all literary analysis and criticism. It's a great channel, if for nothing else than people seem to care about one or two things, usually somebody's fuckin' parents or some stupid character's dress but not the really cool shit like the three-eyed crow's interference with fire, like Melisandre seeing the eyes in the flames and knowing he is watching her. Or the glass candles looking across space ... those are amazing literary inventions, unique to Martin (I think) and I'm glad there's a channel that isn't just about superficial shit. Oh, was going to ask you: favorite character(s)? Historical or current. Mine's probably Brynden Rivers (being a bastard myself, adopted by a noble family though not "legitimized" as Rivers was)... You really get a lot of great backstory from the Dunk and Egg stories, which I always recommend. Do you believe his greensight was developed after he lost the eye to Bittersteel? Great channel! :)
i love these types of videos rather than : - R + L = J and D ? - Is jaime the valonqar ? -Is there a grand northern conspiracy - what is jon snows real name ? - why daenerys will marry jon - why jon is azor ahai - why dany is azor ahai - jon is the song of ice and fire - jon is ice dany is fire types of videos
He's brilliant at presenting mythological, occult, and mysterious topics! I also loved his Celtic mythology connections video. Hopefully he does a video on the ifequevron. He should get a spot on Coast to Coast AM doing such analyses of mythology from real world cultures.
I can fully agree to you, these Targaeryan/Azor Ahai videos are annoying as fk. Lets think about essos and the mystery and backstory about westeros and essos alike.
If waking giants from the Earth can be interpreted as summoning Earthquakes, isn't it then reasonable to assert that Azor Ahai will summon volcanic lava to destroy the land of always winter, by "waking dragons from stone"?
+Madeleine Carpenter ... Perhaps forging the sword, "light bringer" into his wife's heart (working against the others) means that Azor Ahai has to kill his true wife? The North. Hear me out... Marriage has been defined by older cultures as "a man leaving his parents to become one flesh with his new bride". The first men crossed the arm of dorne, then it was broken, stranding them on Westeros. Married to the land, perhaps Azor Ahai sacrificed his wife(the north) which have hot springs below the ground, volcanic magma below the north, destroying the landscape to demolish the others and their whites?
***** oh i love preston, so much that i forget to look at the comments on his page, was not aware that people were "angry" at his presentations... (wierdos!) :P
Right? He even has a separate series, there Serious Q&A. If people don't like him having a bit of fun at the show's expense, they can just skip to the more serious commentary. Pretty simple, I don't get why it gets under peoples skin so much. This channel is right up there with Preston Jacobs for me. I would very much enjoy a collaborative effort some time.
While I don't think the Children of the Forest are evil, per se, I have heard it said that GRRM is not writing a story with any absolute Good and Evil, and the Children are yet another example of that. They tried to do what they saw as good - protecting the earth - with what methods they could, and those methods could be gruesome, and ended up backfiring on them, forcing them to [likely reluctantly] ally with Men to try fix their mistakes. They come off to me now as no better or worse than Men, and just as faulty.
Could you make a video where you speculate whether or not the children of the forest and the giants are going to go extinct in the books and where others of them might be?
Actually when the children were staving the night king with the dragon glass dagger in the show I thought they were fusing this dude to the tree itself or something like that. The fact of the children sacrificing either their young or someone else in order to give these trees their power has a lot of sense.
Always something to think about. You've got a talent for analyzing and finding insights in the books, putting together your thoughts well, then delivering those thoughts in a dramatic style. I'm really glad you take the time to do these videos.
Yet another amazing video with great content. You just keep doing you and write your own ticket in life! I had a conversation with my son about how you handled that nasty troll in your live chat the other day. It was wonderful to be able to share such a good example of how to respond to people like that. Q&A: On another note, I would love to hear your thoughts on the TOJ scene. I think there is more to the story than what we were given in the show. Who were the other people in the room? What about Ned's loss of time and memory? Does it have to do with Bran? Why would he tear down the tower? So many questions!!!
you have a talent for reading out loud! I love listening to your videos. the way you use your voice keeps me constantly on edge... and I mean that in the best way possible :D
grate, just grate! 😃 quality of narration and music is almost perfect to me. your Ashai video is my favourite on hole this channel becouse quality of insight mixed with your voice tone, music and art. this is very similar with its awesomness 🔱
AWESOME!!!! Lots of correlations between the Native Americans and what happened to them. Like the Mayans too. I got a chance to really explore Chichen Itza, the Mayan city where their calendar was found. Got to climb to the top of the pyramid and see the place where sacrifices were performed. It was incredible. They don't give people that kind of access anymore. I love your artwork. Thanks!!!!!
I would really love to see the COTF again before the show is over. I really hope they weren't killed off in the show in season 6. The COTF forrest supposedly broke the arm of Dorne and created the swamplands in the Neck and built the Wall. I really want the show to display the power that the COTF possess. So I am hoping the COTF have one more trick up their sleeve and gives the audience a literal earth moving event. I don't know what that would that could be but I want to see something. I want to see what the COTF are capable of when their backs are against the wall. Maybe creating a storm that swallows a bunch of the wrights and some White Walkers or maybe the COTF can wait for the WWs and wrights to cross the Wall only to have it purposely brought down on them. Someone else probably could think of something better. But I want to see something. I would accept seeing a flashback I guess.
I love this theory, then it suggests that they(Children of the Forest) have to work with the enemy that they hated so much (Mankind) in order to destroy an evil that they created (White Walkers). Just brilliant.
"Giants awoke in the Earth" could be both literal and figurative here. As you say, it could be referring poetically to earthquakes. But it could also be that the children are singing to the spirits of dead giants through the weirwood trees, awakening them, feeding them with blood sacrifices and allowing those spirits to channel the power from those sacrifices into creating earthquakes.
A+ video here. You should make a video recapping the events of Dance of dragons before winds of winter comes out. That would be super helpful and awesome.
amazing. I love the way you think about this series. when spoke about the possibility of the children of the forest sacrificing their young made me think of valyria, the fact there are no children. great video can't wait for the next
Dude you're brilliant at presenting mythological, occult, and mysterious topics! I also loved your Celtic mythology connections video. Can you do a video on the ifequevron? You should get a spot on Coast to Coast AM doing such analyses of mythology from real world cultures.
Can you also do a video on possible allegories behind GRRM's storyline elements? I.e. Others as backlash of environment against abuse by humans, climate change etc.
your videos are great! love how you focus on the past, would love more lovecraft comparisons! yog-sothoth reminds me so much of bran and bloodraven, shub-niggurath is like rhllor and nyarlathotep reminds me of the faceless god! and ofcourse lovecraft elder things remind me of the others. go more in depth with lovecraft and asoiaf! ofcourse as you said asoiaf alludes to lovecraft, not directly in that universe. but yo it has so many lovecraft comparisons and you should be the one to show us! love your channel fam i check for new vids everyday!
Love your content man, keep it coming and I'll keep watching! Maybe you should consider a discussion type video with some of the other Game of Thrones youtubers, might help you get some more viewers too.
So maybe the first time was their babies, and the second was humans since they had no more children with the earthquake magic. On the other hand the connection of weirdwood trees could have been weakened the second time to cause the eathquake big enough because man has cut too many of them. Regarding Melisandre, are you suggesting that the red priests are not just old, but rather completly burnt and that's why they are suing the maigc charm of illusion?
There is a "how the fix the seasons of Planeteos" theory out there that you might want to explore for future content. It draws parallels from AA story, the meteor in GOT, dragons from the second moon lysene story
Could you make video about wargs? Did first men always have some wargs among them or did they develop that after coming to Westeros? If so does that imply some sort of breeding with the children?
Who is the unknown female in the Tower of Joy, not talking about Wylla. She looks high born. Her gown is tailored. I'd guess there is more to the Tower of Joy to learn. The unknown female is either Ashara or maybe a red priestess. But more leaning toward Ashara. She looks like she could be holding something. Ned also says "lies" plural. When speak of the Tower of Joy. I just think there is more to the Tower of Joy story. To much mystery and missing, unknown information.
The game of thrones is a parallel story based upon ‘The Romance of the Three Kingdoms’ about the warring states period in China. Much like Avatar being Dances with Wolves in space. Same story
@IdeasOfIceAndFire i was thinking.... in the books Arya's is around 9 or 10ish yrs old, right? it might help show watchers to picture the lil bear mormont with all her presence and strength of character as a realer representation of Arya on the show. I for one was like daaaaaamn, how heavy would it be if a real 9year old actress was playing her (someone like the lil she bear) what's your thoughts on this idea? Peace. btw big fan.
+Drop Bear Haha! actually...that wouldn't be terrible for her to have some sort of physical boost through magic...I can see why they didn't give her warg powers in the show. kinda takes away from Brans specialness when all the stark children could do it.
I basically read the theory as the red meteor gives off magical radiation (like kryptonite) and that its passing "activated" the magic on Planeteos. Also there is further explination that it also "awoke" the lands of always winter... just a possibility for future content
What's up with the Isle of Faces and Harrenhal? Harren Hoare build the biggest castle there (and was killed by Dragons right after he did it). Baelish wants that castle and he wants the granddaughter of a Whent woman, who might be descendant of the same Harren. Littlefinger seems to smart to want just a random castle.
I know that the Lords and Ladies of Harrenhal were accused of things like bathing in blood, eating humans, and having giant bats. It's possible they actually used blood magic, or tried to. Maybe ASOIAF has a vampire equivalent when magic is in full force. A lot of Westerosi houses have a connection to some type of magic. The Starks and other northern houses have warging/green sight , Harrenhal had the potential blood magic, there is a minor house that Davos visits where some members have webbing in between a few fingers, the Targaryens obviously have the Valyrian connection of fire and blood magic and Dany giving birth to a dead Reptilian like baby wasn't unique to her, it's happened without any interference to other Targ women...
After looking into the hidden Lovecraft woven into ASIOAF... could the Giants that wake from the earth be GRRMs version of the various Lovecraftian gods/Cthulu dwelling beneath the deep? Rising to break the arm of Dorne , the Neck, potentially tear down the Wall? If the children, humans, others, etc are merely pieces of a much larger game... could this "prayer" be a way to contact/ seek interference from the "true" players?
The Breaking of the World? Here is the answer! Wheel of Time. The Breaking of the World, also known as the Time of Madness, was a period when male Aes Sedai destroyed much of the world, ending the Age of Legends, and heralding the beginning of the Third Age.
Q&A When did attempt breaking of North from rest of Westores happen? (The Neck) During the 2000 years war with the First Men or the when the Andals took over south of Westores? and did Children help the North able stop the invasion of the North?.
magic. it's all pointing to magic. the show is called "game of thrones" and it seems to be grounded on politics and war. but the books, a song of ice and fire, seems to me to be grounded on magic. grrm said that the ice is represented by the north, and the dragons are the fire aspect.
This makes think about a particular game I played...I can't remeber the name. But there was a Evil God, a Good God and a God of Balance. The song of Earth could refer to the balance, the peace that exists between the creatures and the earth. And the Song of Ice and fire could refer to the eternal struggle between good and bad. Ice and Fire are kind of contrasting while Earth isn't.
SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED SEASON SIX. I believe that the song is a defense against the White Walkers. If the Song of Ice and Fire is Jon Snow (half Stark half Targaryan) then he will be the one to lead the defense against the White Walkers. It'll be a pretty interesting concept if the White Walkers start to outnumber them and push Jon's forces back, because you'd have a situation in which humans are finally going through the same conflict as the Children of the Forest did. It would be situational irony which seems to be pretty popular with GoT. Plus, maybe they find the horn of winter, and when the White Walkers are swarming around and about to get over, they'll use it as a desperate attempt to destroy as many of them as possible. All good stuff, I'm excited to see what really happens.
What if that's the reason the second attempt to call upon the hammer of the waters failed, because they didn't have enough young of their own to pay the necessary price for it, therefore it did enough damage equal to the sacrifices they had made but not enough to split the continent again
I have Theory that Maybe the Blood Trees, The Old Gods, The Children of the Forest, Green seers and The Three Eyed Raven are really a Third Party in the Great Game that plays both the lord of Fire and The Great other against each other. They both Helped and fought each side at one point or another. This third God would be a sort of Gaia-like entity, that represents earth and nature. And the two other Gods fight take or court the third. while the third wants neither of them.
I Also believe that Humans in the other hand, were created by the Lord of Fire, just like Dragons, for these reasons: -Humans are supposed to be originated in the in Essos, possibly far east, maybe in the Shadow lands, where the lord of Fire supposedly inhabits. -The Lord of Fire has clearly more dominion over Humans than any other entity. -Unlike the Children of the Forest, and Every other creature, Humans are Not in tune with Nature, instead they spread, consume and destroy everything they touch... just like how fire does.
Continuing with my string of comments, if only death can pay for life, then would the deaths of Drogo, Rhaego and the witch herself the price for the 3 dragons' life?
It was claimed, by house Gardener themselves, that Garth Greenhand was the First King. House Dustin makes a similar claim and also say that the First Kings grave is in the barrowlands. Both seem pretty unlikely to me.
i lol'd too hard at 'grizzly sacrifice'- it should have been grizzly... but thats ok, when i first read GOT i read Baratheon as bear-a-thon while i described the plot to my friend... some things can never be unenvisioned.
I think it was the Men not the others because we know men cut weir woods its evidenced on the Eyries throne it was cut from a weirwood, the hows of black whites door (on the white side) was made from Weirwood, Harrenhals rafters where made from weirwood and the night forts gate are all made of weirwood. But it would make sense as the Whites might have a hate for weirwood because on the show we saw that the first other was made on a weirwood also its the children god sigil.
I think you have the best ASOIAF vids because you discuss the more abstract and thematic elements of the story and present them in an understandable context, despite the interpretative nature of all literary analysis and criticism. Dragonstone, being a volcanic island, could also have woken dragons from stone. Davos saved them all.
The hot springs under Winterfell definitely comes to mind!

You have a very good reading and speaking voice love your videos!
Could you make a video where you speculate whether or not the children of the forest and the giants are going to go extinct in the books and where others of them might be?
I would love a video about this
There has to be other Children on the God's Eye island, with the Green Men.
Didnt Mance had like a dozend of giants riding mamooths on the "siege" of the wall?
Actually when the children were staving the night king with the dragon glass dagger in the show I thought they were fusing this dude to the tree itself or something like that. Perhaps this is how the Others came to using Craster's infant sons. Assuming they are a back-fired result ofv the children in the books as well.

Q&A When did attempt breaking of North from rest of Westores happen? (The Neck) During the 2000 years war with the First Men or the when the Andals took over south of Westores? and did Children help the North able stop the invasion of the North?.
So. The song of ice and fire. If songs are this form of defense, what does that make THAT song?
magic. it's all pointing to magic.
the show is called "game of thrones" and it seems to be grounded on politics and war.
but the books, a song of ice and fire, seems to me to be grounded on magic. grrm said that the ice is represented by the north, and the dragons are the fire aspect.
+Freek De Jonghe That sounds like the gods in Runescape.
Kevin Cee Goddamit your right
SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED SEASON SIX.
Can you do a theory on Eldritch Apocalypse please? :/
Damn this is amazing content.
Excellent video
What if that's the reason the second attempt to call upon the hammer of the waters failed, because they didn't have enough young of their own to pay the necessary price for it, therefore it did enough damage equal to the sacrifices they had made but not enough to split the continent again
I just want to say I like your videos. They are interesting and thoughtful. However, I disagree with your opinion that r+l does not equal j.
Fave Game of Thrones TH-camr btw
I wonder what power jon will awaken when hes resurrected, powers of both the valyrians and the old men/children of the forrest
Here's a question, Jon has paid the ultimate sacrifice, self sacrificing himself for all of mankind. What would be his power now that he is dead?
I have Theory that Maybe the Blood Trees, The Old Gods, The Children of the Forest, Green seers and The Three Eyed Raven are really a Third Party in the Great Game that plays both the lord of Fire and The Great other against each other. They both Helped and fought each side at one point or another. This third God would be a sort of Gaia-like entity, that represents earth and nature. And the two other Gods fight take or court the third. while the third wants neither of them.
I Also believe that Humans in the other hand, were created by the Lord of Fire, just like Dragons, for these reasons:
-Humans are supposed to be originated in the in Essos, possibly far east, maybe in the Shadow lands, where the lord of Fire supposedly inhabits.
-The Lord of Fire has clearly more dominion over Humans than any other entity.
-Unlike the Children of the Forest, and Every other creature, Humans are Not in tune with Nature, instead they spread, consume and destroy everything they touch... just like how fire does.
SHOULD I READ THE BOOKS??
Yes.
Continuing with my string of comments, if only death can pay for life, then would the deaths of Drogo, Rhaego and the witch herself the price for the 3 dragons' life?
So were giants wreaking havok or were men?
how does the song of earth relate to the song of ice and fire?
U R so badass. Subscribed
Issat music from Elder Scrolls?
Good one!
Grizzly is a kind of bear. Grisly is bloody.
But which was meant? :o
It was the First King, not Garth Greenhand was it not? Or am I getting it wrong?
It was claimed, by house Gardener themselves, that Garth Greenhand was the First King. House Dustin makes a similar claim and also say that the First Kings grave is in the barrowlands. Both seem pretty unlikely to me.
3:19 White Orchard!
cheers Qman!
i lol'd too hard at 'grizzly sacrifice'- it should have been grizzly... but thats ok, when i first read GOT i read Baratheon as bear-a-thon while i described the plot to my friend... some things can never be unenvisioned.
*grisly... god now theyve got me doing it!
So so good.
Sir is your own idea that Others are the kids of race of Children?
That was dope.
Nice vid
Holy shite this was amazing
So what are the chances of Jon stealing Drogon away from Emilia Clarke that some point between now and the end of the show, this needs to happen.
Make a official video podcast!
For some reason the children on the forest are very similar to the Native Americans of the American continents except with magic
Do you think the WW cut down the weirwood trees?
very good video!
Thanks!
