Witcher 3 Removed Content - Tedd Deireadh, The Final Age Extended[Emhyr Arrests Lodge]

- This video demonstrates 20 minutes of additional restored scenes and gameplay from the game's penultimate quest Tedd Deireadh, The Final Age. In the final game Yennefer come out of nowhere and portals Geralt away after he defeats Eredin. In this cut version he is instead knocked out and wakes up in a hospital starting off the new section of gameplay.
Notes and Breakdown:
General
While I was able to find the cutscenes, dialog, lipsync, text, and character models, all the actual map placement data for these scenes are missing. As result all the location for these scene were my best guess based on context. There are also no objectives present for this extended section however it is rather easy to infer what they are.
See here for more details

I just wanted to clear up some misinformation.
1. Cerys is not dead. The Nilfgaardian soldier is speaking about a random female Skellige warrior. Cerys shows up at the funeral if Hjalmar is King while Hjalmar shows up if Cerys is queen(this was CDPRs intention). Donar an Hindar shows up if Svanrige is King.
2. Yen always saves Triss. Doesn't matter who you romance. However your romance choice does change up the dialog a bit.
3. The animation data for the actual arrest part and the Triss escape is missing. The brooch that Yen gives Triss at the funeral is supposed to be what helps her escape. That's why she is all sus about it.
4. I personally think CDPR cut this for 3 reasons. The first is pacing as mentioned by many (I personally would've kept it since I still think the final ending is rushed). The second is that I think they really tried to hide the fact that final battle is really Skellige and Nilfgaard fighting with the Wild Hunt somewhere in the midst of it. The final game gives off the impression that Skellige and Nilfgaard are teaming up to fight the Wild Hunt. The last reason is I think then really toned down the Yen doing evil shit to save Ciri stuff. This is honestly not even close to the worst thing that CDPR originally had her doing in the game. I'll leave the last part for the fans to debate as with everything.
I'm working on getting out some kind of video with xLetalis to showcase all the options and variations of this sequence so hopefully that should clear some misconceptions.
I like the fact that Emhyr is breaking his agreement with the Lodge because he thinks strategically as getting rid of a dangerous enemy. Very fitting. I also like how far Yen would go. I imagine that the brooch for Triss was also maybe a way for Triss to save the Lodge. I would not ignore this option imho
"This is honestly not even close to the worst thing that CDPR originally had her doing in the game."
Well, can you give some details about that?
@@kaloryfer99999yeah what was the worse thing that was cut
I have a really hard time buying that Yen would serve up Margarita like that. It also isn't super clear that the lodge is Nilfgaard's enemy, on net. They cause problems for the North more than anything.
@@macgarnicle Exactly.
I don't think Yen would hesitate to sacrifice Philippa if she felt like it's the only way to save Ciri, but Margarita is one of her closest friends, and she kinda owes Fringilla one for helping her escape from the Lodge in the books. I don't think she would let either of them get killed.
And I agree with your second point as well. I guess Fringilla could reasonably be considered traitor to the Empire, as she is Nilfgaardian citizen, and we know that all Nilfgaardian mages must put Empire above all else. Joining a secret organization meant to put interests of magic and mages above anything else can easily count as treason. But you can't betray your oath to Empire if you have never sworn it, as is the case for the Norther mages.
Getting Margarita and Philippa to serve the Empire (which is basically their only option if Radovid is still in power) makes much more sense than having them executed for what amounts to 'having made plans that were tangentially contrary to imperial interests, that didn't get realized anyway'
Also, this cut content had me thinking back on the many times I played the game and realize that:
Geralt never mentioned to the An Craites that he is working with Nilfgaard to look for Ciri. Now I see the shock in Hjalmars' statement and feeling of betrayal that Geralt, considered a friend- and maybe family- of Skellige is working with the enemy.
When Geralt asked Emhyr in the ship, about the Lodge, "Truly willing to forgive them? Amnesty in exchange for their help?" And Emhyr gives a vague response "I'm prepared to abide by the agreement I made with Yennefer". Geralt follows it up with "Didn't answer my question". And Emhyr quipped, "Nor must I". Meaning, no amnesty was included in that agreement, so Yennefer lied about it to the Lodge's face to get them to help her.
That is deep!
Perfection. I didn't think about that
Right. He'll treat the lodge as he treated Letho (if he's alive), disposable tools.
I know this was cut probably for pacing reasons but god the game really needed more of this type of thing, especially in the third act which is rushed as hell
They made the pacing worse by cutting this
Especially when you just pop in at empty Kaer Morhen after killing Eredin.
At least there's Blood and Wine though.
17:13 Yooo this line was something else !
Ever since I finished reading the books I always wanted to be able to say that to Emhyr
Well, it's an endgame Geralt after all!🤣
When Yen said "Welcome to the Chicken Test" i really felt that. Bravo CDPR!
I wish they had kept this for several reasons.
1. Gives closure to the Lodge characters. You can see some of remaining dialogue from this cut content in the final game.
BEFORE THE CUT SEQUENCE
When Geralt confronts Emhyr asking him if he is ready to forgive the Lodge he says he is ready to abide by the agreement he made with Yennefer. If this piece of content is cut, we never really find out what that agreement was.
AFTER THE CUT SEQUENCE
If you choose to romance Triss at the end of the game Geralt tells Emhyr that somebody is waiting for him. Emhyr replies by saying 'Triss Merigold? Don't worry I don't intend to pursue her." Which is a strange thing to say since with this content being cut, there is no mention of Emhyr ever wanting to punish Triss (because she escaped) or the other sorceresses.
2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this cut content contains the ONLY conversation between Yen and Triss in the ENTIRE GAME (besides that 3some scene if you romance them both of course). This alone for me is the reason it should have stayed in.
YENEFFER AND TRISS LITERALLY DONT HAVE A SINGLE SCENE TOGETHER IN THE ENTIRE GAME BESIDES THIS ONE AND IT GOT CUT! WHAT THE HELL CDPR?!
3. The ending always felt so rushed.
They have a conversation post Kaer Morhen battle and a couple of ambient convos on the ship. But yeah, there's not much interaction between Yen and Triss
@@moonknightish True they have a small interaction there. Although that is part of a larger group conversation. This cut content seems to have the only actual Triss and Yen scene. Even after their storylines merge there's simply no real interaction between the characters.
This scene right here was so well written. They should have kept it.
Not gonna lie. Always liked how Witcher 3 portrayed Nilfgaard, and that was some really good content,, seeing how they paid their respects, etc.
Yeah, i feel like despite the Games are set from a Northern perspective, CDPR did a good job at showing that every side has its good and bad, and at the end of the day every side is bad for its own reasons.
So it makes me wonder, since most of the Nilfgaardian content was cut from the game, whether it would've been the same, or if the whole Arc was supposed to really show Nilfgaardians are mean and evil, while the North plays victim but jump at every chance they get to commit genocides.
I think Emhyr was criminally underused in the Game. Witcher 1 and 2 really build the character as that ruthless overarching antagonist, they got the most perfect Actor to voice him, his character design is fantastic, and you only see him a few times.
God, TW3 is one of my favourite games and seeing it's secrets is marvelous to me. It was OFFICIAL content and real part of the game, not mods.
Please, community... Use Your modding magic and add it back to the game. Than find more quests to restore. And not just quests, but items or monsters too! The more the better!
Edit: I am curious can mysterious original final boss can be restored. The battle with it would add more action between defeating Eredin and real ending.
Original final boss? What do you mean?
@@master_malpa From what I've heard, after killing Eredin, Geralt was meant to fight true final boss - some kind of frost owl-like monster emarging from the portal opened by Avallac'h inside the tower on Undvik.
@@tydeuskero7295 Interesting. I haven't heard of this before however imo, the game called Witcher 3: Wild Hunt should have a main boss/es in the form of the title Wild Hunt.
@@master_malpa i mean yes eredin is the wild hunt
the betrayal part is actually something yen would do. out of desperation of course but still.
Yes, feels quite fitting all things considered.
@@troo_6656 In my opinion, no, in general, Yennefer did much worse things in the plot, because the script writer didn't like her, only later a lot of things were changed
@@Diego-rt2ot Can you give some examples of those "worse things"?
@@kaloryfer99999 Basically instead of Skjall, Astrid's brother was a mentally disabled albino boy named Hvitr. Yennefer suspects that he may be a source kinda like Alvin was in W1. Astrid is in a coma so only Hvitr saw what happened to Ciri in the Wild Hunt attack. Yennefer wants to do some ritual on him to extract the info and Geralt and Mousesack are vehemently opposed to it(idk if it was a player choice). In order to get Geralt out of the way she imprisons on him on an island with some tribe of undead people that paint themselves white called the Thralls. There was this whole entire quest were you have to get off the island and all that. Geralt come back only to find the ritual is complete. Hvitr says that Astrid is actually alive and in a coma. Then you can go to Freyas garden to try and heal her. She wakes up and then shares what happened to Ciri and the flashback in Lofoten plays out. However since there is no Skjall you instead get to do the Ice Skating tutorial with Ciri(a mechanic I restored in one of my mods) and then the Wild Hunt attacks.
This stuff was removed in the 2014 rewrite so that Yen would be more likable to new players who hadn't read the books. That same rewrite also replaced False Ciri with Cerys and downgraded the whole Skellige Ruler quest line to a sidequest as it was part of the main quest before among many other things.
She was also doing some strange medical experiments on herself(maybe to have a child?) with the Nilfgaardians in Vizima but I'm still piecing that one together.
@@Diego-rt2ot Super interesting stuff. Do you post your progress somewhere? I'd love to stay in touch.
- did you found Ciri?
- we got her Yen

AVALACH IS A TRAITOR, I REPEAT, AVALACH IS A TRAITOR
One of the things I love about Doug Cockle's performance is Geralt's ever increasing frustration. He makes it feel like Geralt's trapped in an idiocracy asking simple questions but everyone he talks to is a simpleton, so Geralt's frustration is forever growing. This content must have been cut fairly early though. the animation is ropey in places and it is in definite need of polishing.
We have full english dialogue, it can't be an early cut
It was actually a pretty late cut around late 2014 early 2015. The early stuff had Cockle using a different voice or only had Polish dialogue. What you see here is actually pretty close to finished by game development standards. Also keep in mind that there is additional animation data I could not find but definitely existed at some point.
On one hand, I think adding a sequence like this between the Eredin fight and the Avallach confrontation would have been pretty good, but on the other hand, I am glad this did not make the final cut. It's so... crude? I don't know how to call it. But the dialogue lines are not very good, and the whole sequence just feels off.
I don't doubt that Yen would sacrifice a lot to save Ciri, but Margarita? She's her close friend, probably closer than Triss. If Ciri and Rita both had knives to their throats and Yen had to choose who lives, she would choose Ciri for sure, but in any less extreme situation she would definitely try to save them both.
The dialogue lines the sorceresses have in the arrest scene are also not that good. Fringilla begs for mercy? Margarita has nothing to say about Yen betraying her? Philippa's lines are okay at least, but that's not enough.
Emhyr's problem with the Lodge is also a bit weird. In the books the Lodge and Nilfgaard had conflicting interests, but they never got into any direct confrontation, and in the games Emhyr played the Lodge like a fiddle. They never did anything that would warrant interrogation, tortures and executions (with exception for Fringilla, who - as an Imperial subject - committed treason when she gave her allegiance to the Lodge). Sure, he might want to have them assassinated just to remove some potentially powerful political players, but the game frames it like they all committed treason against the Empire, for which Emhyr previously promised them amnesty, and now wants to punish them.
Geralt's exit with "kiss my ass, Emhyr" is also beyond unbelievable. Emhyr would absolutely have him punished for this, not because he'd take it personally, but because you won't be an Emperor for much longer if you ever show your subjects that a random guy can just insult you and walk away scot-free. Geralt is risking getting imprisoned or killed, when he knows he absolutely needs to go and find Ciri as fast as possible. The logical consequence of such dialogue line should be "You died. Load last save?" screen.
Hard agree on the latter part. Every single interaction Geralt and Emhyr have up until then is tense, and Geralt is clearly abusing the fact that he's needed to be as impertinent as he can, but within reason.
This is just crossing the line, and there's dozens of soldiers all around, the Sorceresses have just been removed, Geralt can't take them all and there's just no time.
I'm a bit sad that they removed the possibility to die in dialogues like in The Witcher 2. This would've absolutely warranted a "You Died" screen.
I think you might be forgetting that the Empire has an extremely negative view of magic and magic users. There are not a lot of details available in the books, but definitely enough to see that magic users in the Empire don't have even the 10th of the freedoms sorceresses have enjoyed in the Northern kingdoms before the events of the games (with Kovir and Poviss being the current exception). Secondly, the Lodge of Sorceress has conspired to prevent Nilfgaard from taking over the North, and while I'm not sure if Emhyr is fully aware of the extent of their manipulations, I think he knows at least that basic fact that they have opposed him and his conquering. I mean, a lot of sorceresses have fought in The Battle of Sodden Hill - a direct confrontation with Nilfgaard, albeit not exactly from the Lodge, but it showed that the magical society stood with the people of the North at that time.
@@AliveIsAll_I_am I think nobody outside the Lodge is fully aware of how far the Lodge has conspired to manipulate the Events unfolding on the Continent, but by the time of The Witcher 3, i figure it's practically common knowledge that they're responsible for manipulating several Kingdoms to further their own agendas and being responsible for the "unfortunate demise" of a few problematic Rulers. And after having orchestrated the King slayings in The Witcher 2, i don't think Emhyr is the kind of man who would give anyone the opportunity to pull a Reverse Uno on him. Once the Lodge has served its purpose, the Sorceresses become lose ends in the very best of cases, like Letho and the Vipers.
Not to mention, it would be both in-character and fairly understandable for Emhyr to despise Mages, if just because some assisted the Usurper in overthrowing and torturing his Father to death and afflicting him with a Curse that took over a decade to break.
@@Tomcat_Centauri Absolutely agree with you on everything, and you have brought up great points that I didn't even think of
@@AliveIsAll_I_am @Tomcat_Centauri My point is not that Emhyr has no reason to kill them, I agree that Emhyr would want the Lodge dead. I just find it weird how it is framed as them getting punished for a crime. Like when Rita says they were promised amnesty - not asylum or residence or anything, specifically amnesty. Which is granted by the government to it's subjects, who are accused of crimes.
Filippa, Triss and Margarita are not imperial subjects. It does not constitute a crime for them to have fought at Sodden, Nilfgaard hardly has the authority or reason to formally prosecute them for killing Demawend and Foltest, and they can't commit treason against the Empire if they were never supposed to be loyal to it in the first place.
Again, that doesn't mean that they can't be killed by Emhyr, it just means that he's reasoning should be something like 'it's just reason of state' not 'no amnesty for you - answer for your crimes'
Best part of this cut content "Kiss my ass Emhyr"
Thanks for this, looking forward to your video with Letalis!
Thank you SO MUCH for this.
The Crach funeral was cool, but honestly I'm glad they cut this. The tension from the final battle going into the search for Ciri would've been completely ruined if everything was suddenly slowed down like this. Some general ideas I'm fine with, but the placement doesn't work and idk where else you would put this.
I think the placement is good, but the pacing is bad. 1) Cut out all the unnecessary dialogues with the soldiers asking where Ciri is. 2) Keep in the funeral bit and the lodge scene, maybe even the Triss-Yen moment before the tower scene and you have a really nice 'calm before the storm' moment. 3) If they boosted up the dialogues and got a little bit more urgency in the scenes direction wise.. 4) And just as a joke maybe put in a 'Why don't we settle this in a round of Gwent?' dialogue option with Emhyr. I think this is very good content for character closures.
@@uselessmug755 The dialogues with the soldiers are optional, I think.
@@moonknightish Oh! You're right. But still I guess it is a bad idea to give the option to the player if we are talking about pacing. I mean I am the kind of player that want to discover all the optional stuff aswell to see what is it about. It seems kinda stupid to ask random soldiers where is Ciri when you are surrounded by main characters.
@@uselessmug755 I don't mind, when it comes to open world games, the pacing management of the story is up to the player. In these side conversations there are also interesting moments, like a reference to Cintra (the first in the whole trilogy), or how Nilgaardians react to shield maidens, or the incredule reaction to the Wild Hunt appearance by the common soldier, to the point that they rationalize it as an hallucination
@@moonknightish Okay, I actually agree with that. Good point.
I breaks my heart to learn we only are capable of scratching the surface, of what cdpr could have given us. And yet its all beautiful to know more

Crach's funeral should have been kept in but after the true end as a secundary quest or part of the main quest before going to White Orchard.
I like the slow-down of the ending this has. Also approve of Nilfgaard aligning more with Radovid in terms of the Lodge.
>Radovid is alive

The good ending, you mean
nooo, witches are for kissing not burning
That's assuming that this Ending wasn't supposed to play out with a different version of "Reasons of State". We know that Quest was supposed to play out very differently as well, but it was changed, cut and rushed. In this Ending it doesn't sound like they tried to assassinate Radovid yet...

Hopefully! Any new original content is good. If it turns out to be bad, you can always uninstall it :D
It's possible to put the end in other video maybe, to see what happened ?
I think the final ending feels rushed because alot of things are left open especially with skellige and the lodge, but im glad at least the parts with yen geralt and ciri were the ones that were not cut in the end product because they are what's most important. Also i think it would have been way too much if they kept this in terms of yen's character which is most likely why they took it out even though it's made clear she is desperate
My gods that's dark. Brilliantly done, but dark. Why was it cut?
Maaan I missed the option to hand over Philippa in this game. I'd prefer to just hand her over to Radovid, but hey at least there was an option to punish her for the whole intrigue in witcher 2. I hate it that in the end she was just free and happy, like bruh you were one of the main witcher 2's antagonist, why would I ever side with you? And she wasn't like Letho, she was just selfish and brought every misery to herself.
I'd even respect Emhyr for that move. It's more in character for him to betray the lodge, and it's soo satisfying to see Philippa arrested.
And Crach's proper burial is a neat touch. Real nice to see Hjalmar/Cerys again right before the end.
Honestly I would've prefered if that whole thing was left in the game. I guess they cut it in order to have more dramatic ending without any breaks, but this would've worked as well. After defeating the wild hunt we have a moment of peace just before the "second conjunction". This would also imply that it took Avalach and Ciri longer to open the tower, which is also more realistic than how quickly they manage to bring the conjunction in the finale.
Damn Yen sold them out
In the books, Nilfgaard has female soldiers. So, a woman fighting in a battle wouldn't be that uncommon of a sight for those soldiers.
Exactly. And while the regular Northern army doesn’t seem to include women, a bunch of female mercenaries have also fought against Nilfgaard. They really shouldn’t be surprised.
@Perdita25 Facts. The Witcher 3 is a good game, but it contradicts so much lore.
Where in the books? I don't remember female nilfgaardian soldiers?
@moonknightish "In normal gaols the inmates were still traditionally separated according to sex. In military citadels it was different. Emperor Fergus var Emreis-confirming women’s equality in the imperial army by special decree-had already ruled that if it was to be emancipation, then let it be emancipation. Equality ought to be complete and outright, without any exceptions or special privileges for either sex. Since then, inmates had been serving time in mixed cells in the strongholds and citadels."

So, this content starts after you kill Eredin. I think they cut it mainly because a lot of content before of it is missing and they did what ended up being end game we know because it was faster. Here Geralt seems to be injured, assumed killed by those Nilfgaardians in final fight with Eredin. Also, no, there is no indication that actually Nilfgaard was fighting the clans at the same time, that is kind of stupid idea in context of setting a trap for the Naglfar. So, who knows what final fight that precedes this video was supposed to be, so that this is its outcome. I like it but as I said for this to work in context of story we know, a lot of other content need to be before this in the game.
Actually, if you don't help Cerys and Hjhalmar and Svanrige becomes King, there's a cutscene where they kill some nilfgaardian ambassardors and then move to war with Nilfgaard. The idea of a naval battle between Skellige and Nilfgaard was there since the game's announcement (it was one of the first concept arts they published) but the final game makes a very poor attempt in explaining it.
@@moonknightish How it ends up in game it would be stupid to have that naval fight at the same place and time where you try to lure Naglfar if it's not explained and given proper context. Because as it is clearly Nilfgaard and Skelige are working together. If not, just a couple of cutscenes would do, like there is a naval fight then Naglfar appears and all of a sudden, they have to team up. But then again, it couldn't be an ambush rather they are trying to ambush Geralt&Ciri or some other explanation why they decided to say hi in a middle of a sea battle.
Actually, now thinking about it, it could easily be put in line with what we know just with a little bit of changes- after you kill Eredin, Yen doesn't save you, the Naglfar just crashes, and you have a scene of Geralt drowning under its weight. Then you have a big cutscene of Emhyr betraying Skeligens, and his ships sneak attack them while fight with Wild Hunt is taking place. Then everything continues same as in this video.
i wonder does anything here change if you never do the quest of arresting philipa under radovids orders like i never did in my playthrough
Is there more informations about brooch that Triss got from Yen? And how it could had help Triss with escape?
In the books Yen is forced to attend a meeting of the Lodge where they plan what to do with Ciri. She very much wants to get away, and make sure she finds Ciri before them, but Philippa has some teleportation-preventing barriers around they meeting place.
During a lunch break at that meeting Fringilla points out that the oysters served there are from someplace far away and there is a very risky form of teleportation that uses an object from distant place as a beacon, that would not be stopped by the barrier.
So Yen escapes, and almost drowns since she teleported into open sea somewhere near Skellige.
Here the trinket is mentioned to be something made in Kovir, so this is presumably a very similar situation- she can escape to Kovir using this trinket as a beacon.
@@Perdita25 I remember that meeting of Lodge. And fact that Yen was forced to take a part in it despite the fact she didn’t want to. But she ran away. I remember that from books but I didn’t connection it with the way Triss ran away after fight against Wild Hunt.
@@Perdita25 But Yen didn't know about it until Fringilla told her (probably some Nilfgardian magic, because Francesca or Philippa would have predicted it). How would Triss know about it?
@@mrlucky9157 Fringilla says: "As you well know, teleportation with improvised beacon is incredibly risky".
So the Northern sorceresses probably already knew about it, but didn't take it into account since it was considered an extremely stupid thing to attempt. Yen only tried because she was desperate to find Ciri.
And Triss actually witnessed Yen doing it then, so she knew it can sometimes succeed.
Arresting the lodge makes sense for Emhyr. Still, in the books there's a few scenes set in the future where the lodge are revered figures at a magic academy so them being executed might not align with the books.
Nearly all of them were executed during the witch hunts in the book, Philippa's death is even described in a short segment in the final book. The Lodge members all became martyr saints postmortem which is why they were revered at the magic academy in the future.
Could someone please explain to me how can I restore this content in my own game? Please ❤️

No, the author of the video restored it from the game files using redkit.
Im glad they cut the part with Yennifer selling out the lodge. That was dumb as hell
Not dumb at all, it's suit her. Yennefer know the Lodge will manipulate Ciri when she become queen of Nilfgaard. Just like they did to all rulers of Northern Realm, specialy a true snake like Philippa Eilhart, her ambition is very obvious iIn "The Sun stones" quest

@@fire4ev Just because you like it doesn't mean it happened xD
But this ending of the story really reveals the idea that it is better not to choose at all from two evils. I am truly sorry for Margarita, but Philippa and Fringilia got their way. I don't quite understand the point of arresting Triss Merigold. What does she have to do with it? Well, she was in the lodge, but 5% did not know what Philippa and Sheala were doing there. Yes, at least let him try to touch my redhead, emgyr will die faster than radovid.

Can you kill these soldiers at 9:02 or nothing happens when you pull your sword?
But Philippa is dead right ? How it's possible for her to be here ?
Why would she be dead ? Dong remember
Seala is dead. She was also brunette.
I think I would prefer an ending similar to something like this. The original one was very abrupt and didn't feel fulfilling at all.
It's interesting but it feels wrong and I'm glad it's not in the final game.
Geralt saying "Kiss my ass" to Emhyr just like that without punishment is ridiculous. Also it would've been even more frustrating to have Yen do this kind of sh*t without the option to have her killed in battle or something (yes, I don't like her).
