This is an era where musicians were judged by their voices (without autotune being even a thought), not the slick marketing image they projected. I don't think a single modern pop singer would make it back then.

There are some who do not use it. Celine Dion, Adele, Pink among them. Kelly Clarkson used it in her early days, from what I understand, but regrets it.
I served during Vietnam. I did not ever serve in country so I don't want to take away from those who did. But this song was something I think of those who served there and took this love song to heart. Especially the thought of being forgotten. Even though I didn't serve in country, this song meant a lot to me as my girl friend at the time is now my wife of 46 years. Time can do so much, are you still mine! Those are the words that have impact.
This song was actually about a man waiting to get out of prison to return to his love. Sorry. Thank you for your service.
I was 23 then, it seems that the singers back then had more class, in general, than we find now. We actually went to hear them sing, not to jump around, get drunk, and get our eardrums blasted... :-)

@@danieldickson8591 Hate to tell you but that was done by Bill Medley. Specter didn't produce it & he only put his name on the 2nd pressing of the song. The arrangement for that album was Bill & Bobby.

@@susanniesen9721 Both Bill & Bobby sang the song before they got together. When they first started recording both of them wanted to put that song on a track. They flipped a coin to see who sang the song. Bobby recorded & Bill produced the album when Specter was busy with other artist. When the song became a hit & they had to repress Specter was listed as producer.

They didn't have the technology to do looping and all that prerecorded nonsense that they do now in concerts. It was straight up pure vocal talent. No autotune. Excellent reaction :)
RIP Bobby. This song was recorded live on the Andy Williams show back in 1965, I was 3 years when this song came out. Truly RIGHTEOUS!

I knew the song (before Ghost) but seeing and hearing Bobby Hatfield perform this song live was the most stunning miracle of a human being exercising his God-given voice that I have ever seen. this was live in 1965 just a man , a mic and a raw talent ... nobody has come close to matching the brilliance of Bobby with this song ( many have tried) sadly he left us in 2003 but we are all blessed that we can watch channels on here and remember these amazingly gifted artists from our past

Bobby Hatfield, singer here was very nervous because his mother was in the audience during his singing. He and his singing partner, Bill Medley were on a variety TV show called Andy Williams Show.

"You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" is the actual title. Written by Barry Mann and sung by the Righteous Brothers.
Don't forget "Soul and Inspiration". That literally is in the top ten songs that will bring two people together perfectly.

I'M an international prisoner advocate for 38 years. I deal with every level of the system from my juveys TO my people on Death Row. For some reason people just think I'm making this up. I saw them in Las Vegas in the early 2000’s, just months before Bobby died. I loved it. They very very popular when I was a teenager, so darn many years ago.
That most assuredly was LIVE. Raw talent. No one can compare to this today. Music was pure music in the 50's , 60's and 70's. More so in the 60's. Just such talent back then. Today you can't understand one thing that comes out of the SO CALLED singers mouths. Lol

That is by far my favorite version of the song. He sings it so beautifully and so effortlessly. No theatrics to emphasize the notes, just a confident face-- sure and true. True blue. Blue, as in blue-eyed soul. He describes that genre... defines it... embodies it. So good to see young people (esp. those who grew up listening to mom and pop's old soul music), discovering this, and reacting with surprised amazement. I was a Beatles and Stones fan back in the day, but dearly loved soul and its progression over time (child of the '60s). But of the "blue-eyed" guys: Bobby Hatfield always ruled.

I am 81 and have heard several artists before Bobby’s version and several after. No one comes close to this, Bobby owns it. This version came out as I was headed for Viet Nam. You can feel the loneliness in the words and the way we felt as we were away from our families for one long year. Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of their albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do “Unchained”, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we know. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages

Its cool that the younger people now are rediscovering these amazing artists from when I was young. Its really hard to find the kind of natural talent in today's artist's that so many performer's during that time period possessed. The Righteous Brothers grew up with The Blues and Jazz. I hope that explains them singing with Soul. You see, music is food for the Soul. It's what cleanses our minds and bodies from the everyday stresses and rigors of everyday life and nothing does it better than some good old Blues, Jazz or plain old Soul Music.
A true artist. Expresses the emotion. Makes the audience, listeners, feel the emotion.
I remember them vividly....while Sitting on my Dad's knee at the Elmwood Casino....a Live performance!. Everytime I hear the Brothers on the Radio....I think of my Dad and their beautiful Songs.

1st. There are two Righteous Bros but at times they would do solos also. This is Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Bros singing live on the Andy Williams show there were no do overs just his amazing voice and a small microphone. Many artists before and after him have done this song but no one will ever compare to his performance. It was effortless, smooth and sheer perfection. Many fell in love to this song and with him he was the whole package. Bobby was the tenor voice and Bill Melody was the baritone voice they shouldn't have blended together but they did and it was pure magic They were considered the best Duo in music theybstarted in 1963 together.
I watched it live in my parents' living room. It was on the Andy Williams Show on NBC. All-time favorite male duo.

Barry Gibb, the handsome hairy hunk in the middle, wrote that for his wife, Linda. They met when The Bee Gees was in London, recording Top of the Pops in 1970. They’re still married and madly in love with one another.
I have a Bee Gees song you should check out. It’s called “Fanny Be Tender With My Love”. Fanny was the name of Robin Gibb’s housemaid. They didn’t have a thing going on, The Bee Gees just thought the name fit the song, being a once common English woman’s name.
No falsetto, 5 octave range is what you heard; no auto tune bs, Bobby sang for his mother in the audience and her first time hearing and seeing him live !! The lead-in from this same video on the Andy Williams Show (where this live video was made) is worth watching for a taste of the brothers interacting.
