    Unchained Melody was written for a prison movie titled 'Unchained' (1955). It was first sung in the movie by African American opera singer, film and Théâtre actor Todd Duncan. The song was composed by Alex North with lyrics by Hy Zaret. Since 1955 this song has been sung by major recording artist from around the world. Making it one of the most recorded songs in history.
    In a live television performance on the 'Andy Williams Show' 1965. Bobby Hatfield of the 'Righteous Brothers' gave an epic performance that was one for the ages. His rendition has become the version every recording artist has used and uses today. Making it the quintessential version of them all. The rest as they say is history.

    • @richardzinno4909
      @richardzinno4909 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Todd Duncan did steal the show, in the movie “Unchained”, with his rendition of the movie’s theme song. He sings the song in its entirety during a live action scene, which depicts the tortured souls of the prison inmates. Duncan’s version was, necessarily, more restrained than Hatfield’s version, because of the intimate setting, of prisoners gathered, listening in sorrow.
      Todd Duncan would’ve been a much more famous singer (perhaps adding “recording star”, on top of his successful career in opera and stage); if the movie “Unchained” made it past the Drive-In Theater circuit.

Those high notes at the end are not part of the studio version, yet he apparently was confident enough to hit them on live television. As I am not very good amateur musician, I ran and grabbed my guitar (Sears Catalog - 1978) and discovered that the last high note he hit is the highest E on my guitar. As you explained, the fact that he looked so relaxed is amazing.
