This helps a lot, thank you Robert. There is surprisingly little content on GR vs GT86 on YT and the little there is really isn't half nearly as detailed as your vid. Better stability control system on the new one is really tempting.
Different between GR86 and GT86 is night and day. New GR is overall next level. It's more comfortable, no more torque dip, more powerful, better new interior, lot stiffer, better on track, better on country roads, better in city driving. And it looks lot better and adult, not like hot wheels car for kid's... That's a reality, only 1 thing is better in GT86, and that is steering feel
Just picking up on your comment about the 86 not having gas struts for the bonnet. The stay seems to work OK, is there any advantage in having gas struts (that will eventually fail) beyond convienience? I'm a fan of 'simple that works'.
I suppose not as the struts would be heavier too. But I like them as cars like that have their bonnet opened more frequently, so the convience helps a little.
I've always favoured Subaru over the Toyota. The new BRZ is available too, any chance you can have a test run with the BRZ to see if there are any differences besides the badge Robert?
Unlikely - from what I've seen there are more differences than in the previous gen, but I don't imagine they'd play out in massively significant ways driving. I'd go the BRZ on price and availability!
Hi thanks for this test, very useful can you advise on the following: I plan to buy old model GT86 for mainly trackday use Should something be changed or is stock OK ? I am reading about oil cooling issues ? Would buy the second gen. Rgs
Change the pads to track/street and the fluid to high performance. Get a second set of wheels and fit track street tyres such as A052s see my review on them. Then have fun!

Robert, still not clear to me if the old GT86 needs an oil cooler for track day use ? Does your GT86 have one ? Reading the Internet, most say it does need an oil cooler & other engine oil pls advise

Getting an aftermarket exhaust definitely gives the pops & burbles! Also great comparison!
Thanks!
I subbed that was entertaining!
Love the gt86
Especially when it rains 😈

Bravo!! My friend!! BRAVO!!!
Idk if its the accent, but i think this guy knows what he's talking about
First time ever anyone has complimented my accent!
Fun, but I get tired in the city traffic and speed bumps 😅
Other reviewers have said the 1st gen has better steering.
I don't agree
Driven both, I agree that the 1st Gen has better steering feel. It does have a more raw driving feel, although it is slower.
Do I understand correctly that you are comparing a 2012 model with brand new model?
You understand correctly.
That Toyota logo in the steering wheel is a little bit too much for me. I love the 86 badge on my catfish.

I prefer the gt86
Good video mate
Thanks 👍

Stock GT86 is fine. Never had any problem with it on track days. Rest the engine and brakes every 20 min.
@@jbalgo
thx
how much time you rest the car after 20min tracktime ?
and how many repetitions a day ?
so no extra oil cooler needed?

I don't find the stock brakes can handle that duty cycle!
how about the cabin noise?. Is the GR86 has improve the cabin noise over gt86?
Yes
Unfortunately, they still use watercolor for paint as most Japanese makers do.
Robert,
still not clear to me if the old GT86 needs an oil cooler for track day use ?

I never needed one in my car. Just regular changes. However I kept my car stock.
@@L2SFBC
and you drive on track?
how often?
Yes I did a lot of Track days with the 86 maybe 70 over ten years.

and this with standard car and no issues ?
great news
The gt86 is a 2 the gr86 is a 7 and if you supercharge it its a 9 out of 10. So more fun then virtually anything
The gt86 is a “2”? That’s a major exaggeration…
Are u dumb
If you are thinking the GR86 needs supercharger, you absolutely don't understand that car... If you want power and grip, buy Porsche
They are NOT Prius tires for the flock's sake!!!! These were HP tires.
Comparing a Mustang to a sports car? Really?
People do compare the two and if you just want a cruise car you may choose either. But as I said...it' won't have the dynamics.
