  • If you've ever looked at Octoprint but thought that it all sounds really complicated then this video is for you. Wouldn't it be good if there was a way to carry on with your day while still being able to see what your printer was up to when you're not around to watch it and also get great time lapse videos? The Beagle Print wifi camera from Mintion says that it can do all of this as well and possibly even better than Octoprint. Let's find out if that's true.

    ***I was wrong! You can now use your Beagle Camera to monitor your 3d printer from outside of your home network using the app. Now I'm really impressed!!***

      Ok now with the updates makes this a decent option, but OctoPrint is still just SO much more powerful and flexible. Open Source is where it's at for me, but this rpoduct is cool for people who don't want to learn anything past setting up an app and getting back to printing. I was just about to type that it probably has it's work cut out for it to ever compare to OctoPrint, then I read the comment before mine. As a Prusa user, I'll never own a "Beagle". 🐶

    Your review is one of the reasons I bought a Beagle Camera. I've had it for a week and no problems. Thanks for the tip about the tape on the USB pin to cut power to the printer, saves me from unplugging the Beagle before turning on the printer.

    This is exactly what I've been looking for as I looked at octoprint and thought it was way to complex. just ordered one with the code, £68.33 with free shipping to UK. Not bad at all for camera and software, basically turns my dumb printer into a smart wifi printer. I hope you get an affiliate kickback! :)

    I just got one of these.. My first Timelapse I messed it up via moving it around while doing the Timelapse as I knew halfway through I was not in the right spot and then I accidentally had it set too far to the left but still came out awesome.. Next one will be even better Need to print an arm for mine :) I will be posting my mess today (3 day print) on my channel and yes I know its stringing.. I keep fighting with this printer over that.. Sovol anyone :) I was able to download the Timelapse via cellular when not at home..

    Remote monitoring means "within running distance" to deal with any issues (particularly thermal runaway). Monitoring outside the house (re: shopping) is a bit mad. But at least you'd have video to prove to the insurance company that they don't need to pay out since the fire was started by an unattended printer.

    I have had this camera for about 2 months now since i was not about to spend $100 or more for the pi. The camera works well enough. Sometimes the camera stops sending video and i have to restart it after it finishes a print and sometimes the controls dont work from my phone so i just restart the app.

    For me, the Octoprint 4a for android is the cat's meow. We all have old phones (which in my case is more powerful that a raspberry pi 4) and setup is very simple! That said, this product will certainly be more suitable for many folk.

    Beagle cam stopt my prints randomly for about 1 second. And no, i am not talking about timelaps.
    It is happening if u try to print round objects. Like a zylinder. The cam can not handle this.

    Stuff that, at $70 they can keep it. even the discount will not help because of the shipping since it is a American product. Not a replacement for the PI which again is silly costing.

    • @bruddaozzo
      @bruddaozzo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's actually cheaper than I thought it'll be.
      Checked Pi prices and you're not gonna build one CLOSE to that price even if you can find each piece in stock. Seems to be kits in stock mostly (pi+case+power cable etc), and then you'll need to add the cost of a camera too.
      I'd say right now, for anyone that doesn't have a pi, and just wants to remotely monitor/start prints this is actually a pretty good product.
      I got a pi with octoprint on my CR6-SE. Not because i'm interested in timelapse, it's because the SD card reader on it is a joke. Constantly faults, so have to print directly from the pi. Seems to be a fairly common issue on the CR6-SE from my googles. So I guess there's another reason someone might want this (assuming it can print directly from the camera without uploading to the printers SD card).
      The ease of use is also huge imo. I looked at octolapse to test the moving the hot end for taking a timelapse. But boy is the setup daunting. Yeah I've found tutorials, but it's simply too much effort. I gotta dick around enough with 3d printing, so not worth it for me.

    • @RickyImpey
      @RickyImpey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bruddaozzo I can confirm that you can bypass the printers SD card and send g-code files directly from your computer or phone through the Beagle to your printer. I use this feature a lot as my office is upstairs in my house and my printers are out in my workshop. The times I've walked back up to the office and realise I've forgotten the SD card I need🙄

    After the first layer my printer prints in air

    • @RickyImpey
      @RickyImpey  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, z hop is just a setting that tells the nozzle to lift up a set distance when it is not extruding material. It should then drop down again when it starts extruding. I would be surprised if that was your issue. Is this happening with the Beagle camera?
