I know this is a year old video but I still wanted to say thank you for making this. Very clear and simple to follow instructions. My mom just got this printer for Christmas and we got the first example print to work and then it was an absolute mess when we tried the second. Trouble shot and changed settings for 4-5 hours with no luck. Stumbled on to your video and took my time following the instructions and got her second print working. Thank you so much!

This was honestly one of the most simple BUT MOST USEFUL leveling videos I’ve ever watched. I am relatively new to the craft and have had countless issues with my bed! This video was short but easily followed and solved almost everything! Thank you for this! 🎉

That moment you realize how nerdy you are because a video about 3d printer bed leveling has filled you with uncontainable joy.
Just a brilliant video. Thank you. With 4 Ender 3 S1 Pros (and a few Ender 5 S1s on the way, which a lot of this video should apply to) I'm no leveling slouch. But your system here is so well thought out and valid. I really appreciate it.

You Sir are a Legend! I bought the S1 Pro for my son as a Xmas present. He's 8 so daddy had to make it work. From about 9AM Xmas day still next day 4PM I struggled to print a rabbit / cat. I was considering returining it. I levelled with paper, tried the G29 line, tried and failed every time.
This video is really a life saver! This is the best I've seen because I can finally trust my good eye. The M420 line is something else.
Later I will realise how silly I sound but I'm so grateful for this video! Folks, a cat is being created right now!

I was so disappointed with my Ender 3 S1 Pro as no other video (even Creality's) resolved this bed leveling challenge. Finally, after following your instructions, a perfect Lego calibration cube came out of the bed ! One problem I faced here, though: the distance between the nozzle and the bed was greater than the Z offset limit (-5.00). To solve it, I had to reset the printer via the touch panel and start the Z offset adjustment again. After two resets, Z offset is now set to -1.75 and the nozzle is at a perfect distance from the bed. Thank you !

I cannot get this. I started with a -4.00 offset right out of the box... I have reseted the settings many times and still I am around the -4.15 offset is getting bigger with the time and every reset...

I had heard that the auto level would succeed and then be miles off, so I was prepped. But I had done it manually first and undone the screws too far to get bed higher. Then it wobbles around and I thought it was broken! Your tip re getting the springs pretensioned and only then doing the Z height adjust with the touchpad. I needed 4mm, which the springs were unable to provide before running out of tension leaving the end wobbling.
MANY THANKS you’ve saved the day for a novice printer owner.

Thank you Ricky for this video, I'm so happy with my Ender 3 S1 Pro printer. When I assembled the printer, I took time to make sure it would be flawless, first I´ve tightened every single screw, adjust all the rollers, leveled the bed, not only folowing your steps, but also making sure it was perfectly even, for that I used a caliper to make sure the base and the bed had the exact same measuring on all 4 corners, then lubricated the 2 gantry shafts with Lithium grease, tighten the 3 belts to perfection and finished doing one last bed leveling. My first print was the rabbit that came on the provided SD card and it printed flawlessly, I was amazed by the quality, no stringing, all the layers came perfect. My second print was the cable holder that you kindly provided on another of your videos, the only change I made to the printer was, changing the angle on the original screen cradle, because my printer is on a dedicated shelv, a little below my eye level (standing up), it was easy to change the inclination (45º up), you just have to grind the little slot and drill a hole next to the lower screw, and you can only use 2 screws in the end. Finaly I'm so happy with this printer, I wouldn't look for any other printer, after my experience with this one. All the videos you have submited helped me a LOT with my beguinning on 3D printing. Thank you once more for that. Cheers

Why would you need a "mesh" of a 200mm flat plate? If your printer requires this, you should return it as faulty ie. The build plate is meant to be flat!!!
Don't worry about gcode, mesh's etc. You want to be leveling the plate with the hand screws, not software.
The auto level IS a gimmick, it does the exact same thing as a simple end switch used to do..

I am amazed how well this works. I have this printer for a couple of weeks and kept having adhesion issues. It's my first 3D printer and knew that there are multiple 'workaround' for this issues. The only way my prints would stick, was by applying a generous amount of glue stick. The way more expansive version Magigoo did not even work. And it looked messy and weird in comparison to all other TH-cam examples.
But the last part in your guide about the slicer settings in Cura finally did the trick! All my prints stick perfectly without any glue at all.
    Thank you!

Glad you liked the video. Technically the g-code shouldn't be required IF Creality enabled the correct feature in the firmware. Unfortunately, Creality firmware (especially for the S1 Pro) is very hit and miss lately and I have very little faith that they have done what they say. Many have told me that adding the g-code improved things as it did with mine and it does no harm if the mesh feature is enabled correctly.

Great Guide, simple and to the point... I'm not sure if I re-learnt something with the "use saved bed mesh" or if it's that long since I swapped printers I forgot this!
However, your start code DID teach me something... that was what's wrong with Cura's code:
    G28 O ; Home all untrusted axes
The steppers have been disabled.... none of them can be trusted!!!!
    We should default to:
    G28 ; Home all axes
I didn't spot the problem until I crashed the Hot End into the Hot Bed connection as I'd moved the bed to remove a print - restarting the printer still trusted the position!
    Thanks for posting this :D

This seemed really clear and easy to follow; I'm a tech ed teacher who has been 3d printing for 15 years on 3 different printers, so I know my way around. Yet the manual from the Ender 3 S1 Pro is unusable! I found an unboxing and setup video (55 minutes) that is ok but inadequate on the bed leveling part. Your way is much better!
One thing however: I tried your M420 S1 Z10 machine line and I could not get that to work. When I removed that line, I immediately got good prints. I have 3 of these printers and all 3 are working (knock on wood)
All 3 printers have a significant dip in the center of the platter, I simply leave a 3" square of paper trapped under the center of the removable steel plate, that fixed it perfectly.

Great video! At first, I tried it without the first steps (loosening the wheels entirely) as I thought that wouldn't have much effect. But I couldn't get my first layer right. Then I just tried the whole tutorial and it's night and day. Lesson learned, thanks for your effort.

I have been struggling with my S1 pro since I got it new like 2 years ago. Always seemed like the ABL wasn't working, I just thought I was bad at leveling. Turns out it wasn't using the ABL this entire time because I didn't know the G-code tipe.
Thank you so much, I will die for you.

Finally! Finally I have print out of my Ender S1 Pro , thankyou, I'd done all previous steps but on a different video someone had recommended the G29 - common entry - but this seemed to give a few layers and then somehow just went to spaghetti, like it was knocking the print loose itself - but thanks to your tweek I've saved the bed mesh, saved loads of time with it pratting about doing the level every time it also seemed to heat up then go down again and then back up (not sure I've fully stopped this but your other tip on changing settings as it runs allows me to override this weirdness, at least sometimes) - its a very odd printer compared to my older Ender 3 which I upgraded from (and still prefer as it just banged out prints no issues!) and itss sticking to the bed like crazy now, unlike before, anyway finally got a print! thank you

I’ve been almost nonstop printing on my s1 pro since getting it 2 months ago. Used this video multiple times, it’s brilliant. After about 20-30 hours of printing the bed will unlevel itself. Could be a combination of roller wheel wear (it creates weird gray dust on the wheels), nozzle grinding (this happens unfortunately), spring tension loss, pushing down on the bed for cleaning, etc… i think a good idea for a follow up video to this one is covering maintenance and realistic expectations of occasionally needing to retram the bed, inspection of wheels, firming up mechanical wear, indicators its time to retram, and so on. I started getting a wicked 15 degree slant only 20mm apart on small pieces obviously causing 2 quick failures. Retrammed and back to perfect prints.

    Thank you for this tutorial.
I bought an Ender 3 S1 Pro and the leveling was giving me nightmares. I leveled everything, set it up with the piece of paper. Center was "bowled in". I could not get it fixed.
Bought PLA filament and after that the rabbit hole began. It would not stick and drive me crazy. All the websites always say "level your bed. if it doesn't work use Glue and hairspray!" Yikes.
You showed me how to level the bed and that Stock Cura NEEDS the extra G-Code that the printer will even use the darn mesh it created painstakingly.
I am happily printing now. Thank you SO much.

    Hello Ricky,
I've recently purchased Ender 3 S1 Pro (same as yours) and could not work out ABL. Considered fact it is faulty as many other uses saying.. until I got here and saw one of your videos.
My problem was related to the gantry. Not aligned properly and few screws were loose at the same time. Was not expecting that..
Got that sorted and now ABL works like a charm.
Thanks for your support. You doing great job.

Super helpful to get my printer working correctly.
I was already becoming desperate why my leveling efforts didn't work properly.
Especially the procedure of first setting the value on the screen for position 1 and then adjusting the screws for position 2-5.
As well as using the "M420 S1 Z10 ;" command.
    Thank you!!

Thank you very much for this clear and to the point video. I agree with other posters, it seems crazy to have to go through all of this with "auto level" It should set a mesh and be DONE. For anyone interested you want to know a printer that works like this? The CR6 SE. You run auto level and you are off and running. None of this fiddling around. I Was hoping this printer would be similar, but its not even close. With the help of this video its finally doing perfect 1st layers, but what a PITA. Thanks Ricky, this is a great video.

Ricky this video prevented me from throwing my ender 3 s1 out of the window....all this time my Cura gcode for this printer did not have the M420 or G29....so I did everything you instructed AND modified the ABL gcode in cura...NOW my ender 3 s1 is cranking out stunning prints. The first layer is very nice. Thank you thank you thank you. 🎉🎉🎉
