Me too, it was by far my favorite genre of games. I remember being a little kid and watching my Dad playing the first Resident Evil. It scared me, but I couldn't look away, lol.
Capcom's bulshit definitely aged pretty well here in 2021... Resident Evil 8 has now sold 4.5m copies. It's like when EA sayed that singleplayer games is not profitable.
Looking back at the stupid shit Capcom said is hilarious, only company that hasn't changed is Konami & Activision they still prefer to stick their heads up their asses unfortunately.
You hit on so many good points. Part of creating tension in the classics is having to make those agonizing decisions of whether you'll have enough ammo, (then having to make every shot count because you couldn't afford to screw up), limited med kits, (I'm on caution, but I *think* I'll be okay), etc. Tension, confusion, and tough decisions are what make the games great, not knowing you have near infinite ammo and health.
Survival horror is huge. Honestly, Capcom needs to get a grip and express THEMSELVES, not try to copy another companies genre and try to make it better. Instead of copying someone else, how about you make a game based on YOUR OWN and MOST POPULAR genre that's just as kickass as you're trying to make COD out to be
Dude, you're the best, this rage video was not only funny but so so honest i loved it. I also feel your pain, i literally have dreams in where capcom hires me for some weird reason and i make a new SH resident evil that sells 8 million copies and that encourages dead space to not die, silent hill to come back, and other new SH games to appear. Good times, even when its in my head lol.
I'm so glad I've found this guy. He not only makes me laugh and angry at Capcom at the same time but also makes me feel better anytime watch his videos.
I love it when people say Leon's campaign went back to the series' roots. I really can't remember in the originals when the cover system was so broken your character ends up stuck against a wall and you can't even shoot. I don't remember level designs where you'd go from a cemetary to a church to an unerground lab to a European catacomb to a giant cave to an underwater river all in one stage. I don't remember coop or drop kicking zombies. I fon't remember having the controls constantly taken away from me or endless QTEs. I don't remember fighting a t rex that then turns into a giant fly. Fuck RE6 including Leon's campaign.
Totally agreed, I want more Silent Hill 2 style games. In survival horror games, storyline, scare effect, limited ammo, and eerie environments should all come before action.
This is a lot of the reason why I'm a big fan of Nintendo games, they're always doing things their own way and though it might not appeal to everyone, like most people in the last gen been torn and probably will still be in this one, about the Wii and Wii U and how different they are to other consoles. It still gives them their own name and unique brands which I usually find to be quite fun and yes sometimes even challenging. Keep up the awesome work!
i agree with every breath you used in this video, dude resident evil has an AMAZING storyline also but its missing that survival horror theme that totally brought up games like Dead Space and Ammesia
I don't know if you've done one yet, but I would like to see a video displaying all of your metal shirts like your epic wall of games. I'm so jealous of your shirt collection!
My brother and I were just discussing how this and he pointed out part of the reason they removed the limited ammo issues is because of the online functionality leading to issues with one person hogging the ammo. I think I have a compromise. Two game modes, Single Player Survival Horror in the classic "solo struggle to survive against hordes" style, and then a Online Multiplayer Mode where you play as an Extraction or Clean-up crew with no ammo or survival worries.
I know Resident Evil 6 was definitely not as good as we would have liked it to be. Most people saw a Gears 'a War clone, That stripped everything that made the original Resident Evil great, and butchered it. But I think Capcom was just trying to appease as many different audiences at once. Ingenious idea. Everyone knew going in that Chris Redfield's campaign was going to harken to that of a third person action game, just like in Resident Evil 5. Whereas Leon Kennedy's campaign seemed to go back to its true survival-horror roots, providing a different flavor for different gamers. I don't really remember Jake Mueller's campaign well enough to make an analysis of it. But the fact of the matter is, there were times in the game when I actually appreciated the diversity between everyone's story-arch. Then those "Aha!" moments when you first see Leon and Chris stand off, after just playing the alternating story arch. It was pretty well implemented. Overall, I really enjoyed the gameplay of all campaigns. I played Leon's campaign when I wanted to have a more atmospheric play style, and Chris Redfield's for when I wanted to just go Hulk Smash on some undead...who can shoot assault rifles...whatever it was still cool, ok? lol
6 would've benefited from doing away with the hokey love plot, reintroducing forgone characters of series past, and adding cohesion between plots to give us a more satisfying conclusion. As it stands, I feel no resolution between Jake and Chris, Carla's entire plot felt half-assed, and they set up the endings in such a way that the story could continue. To where, I'd like to know, considering all the major villains were killed off. The series needs either a reboot, or a swift death.
I played it at my friend's place originally like last summer, we haven't so recently. Terrifying at first, but once you get the hang of it the first few times... it no longer becomes scary.
I used to love call of duty. Now I got fed up and traded in all my games. And bought many games the opposite of it. Because it was unique and stuck to there stories, themes, characters and overall idea of the games.
This is in EVERYTHING, music, movies, games, etc. If something shows to be successful, expect everyone to be jumping on board making something like it.
RE:Revelations was creepy and atmospheric even had some scary parts that were kinda a throw back to the first. Gives hope that the series will still be good in one form.
Slender started out as this Urban Legend now it starts as a gaming franchise with Slender: The 8 Pages. It is a very scary, popular, and free to download computer game. If you are into horror then Slender:The Eight Pages is for you. This game will give you a taste of whats coming in Slender: Arrival not yet released yet.
Shinji Mikami (creator of Resident Evil) is currently directing a game known right now as "Project Zwei" which will come out later this year. He says: “I’ve found my focus and once again I’m striving for pure survival horror.”
So true, the best parts that made the games scary was the fact you had to watch your ammo and make shure you didn't waste it, now capcom is more like drakes uncharted or yeah call of duty in action wise, but still good games.
I really miss when Call of Duty and Medal of Honor were about WWII. Back then they actually told a story, they were good. To this day my favorite PS2 game is CoD 2 Big Red One.
Man, I agree with everything that AlphaOmegaSin said in this video about Survival horror and Capcom. They seriously need to make another good RE game that is actually an RE game. I may not be as die hard of an RE fan as AlphaOmegeSin, but they really need to make RE a SURVIVAL HORROR title again.
Thing about survival horror, they still have yet to make a full zombie game. No not get from a-b etc. I mean an actual zombie horror survival. Like at day you adventure to find supplies and food, at night you have to hunker down and defence against the ifnected. It takes place in a land at least the size of fallout games. there is no real goal, just trying to survive as long as possible. Multiplayer is optional. Also throw in some quest for kick ass weapons. of course they won't be really easy.
...not *Profitable* with the *way* Capcom's been doing Survival Horror -- I can maybe agree with that. Actually, Capcom doesn't do Survival Horror anymore; its more like Michael Bay *action* horror, at times *trying* to be more like Western games (sadly, Konami did the same thing with Silent Hill). The closest Capcom has come to Survival Horror lately is maybe with RE: Revelations 2. Sorta/Kinda. Barry and the "sandwich" quote making a return brought a smile to my face, at least.
Hey AOS. If you want good games, look at some indie. All the "big" games are becoming interactive movies while indie games are taking a different branch. Future of entertainment: movies and games merge, indie games become big innovative companies that eventually bring us more innovation on the interactive side of things while the movie games become a replacement for regular movies. Eventually movie games invent surround graphics, and video games follow.
Dude, I keep trying to drill it into people's heads... "If you're trying to be like someone else, you're not being you." Same thing for companies, video games, etc.
You made a good point, Capcoms more concerned with money than games these days...similar to the Final Fantasy games, they used to be about giving the fans what they loved, but now these bastards are concerned with how much money they make.
Capcom: Survival horror is no longer profitable. Me: Oh really? Well The Last of Us would like to have a word with you. It's a mere PS3 exclusive, yet it was very successful.
Really I see why Capcom says this, cause almost every major shooters makes a crap load of money while other smaller genres don't fare as well unless they are some major one.
Well said!! I love Survival Horror! Capcom need to understand the gaming world needs more different type of games, not every type of game can sell like Modern Warfare but it will still be very profitable.
Capcom needs a reality check BIG TIME! Survival Horror always has been the bad ass genre for video games since the very original Alone in the Dark came out back in the day. Everyone needs a good scare once in a while in video games and that's the best thing about that genre.
Me too, it was by far my favorite genre of games. I remember being a little kid and watching my Dad playing the first Resident Evil. It scared me, but I couldn't look away, lol.
Damn man, all the luck to you! We really need more fixed camera survivors horrors!
Companies need to realize that if I want to play cod I will play cod.
i aggree with you the cris and jake campaign felt like ghost recon
Decisions like this are probably why Capcom are going bankrupt
Capcom are just business and they don't realize they losing money because us fans started liking them because of old games they have.
2:21 you mentioned the Leon parts of re6. Finally someone else said it!!!
Clock tower fuck yes! That game was awesome man.
Yes, because CoD players wouldn't be bothered to come out of their comfort zone just a little bit and play a GOOD game.
Barry Burton said "Oh my COD!".
And then Resident Evil HD was Capcom's best-selling digital distribution title.

Nice Mallrats shoutout at the end Alpha!

Sick shirt!
R.I.P. Chuck

I love your shirt alpha.
That's the messed up thing, 600 people didn't think that the game was a bad idea.
Wow you just blew my mind and changed the way I feel about everything! Thank you
RIP Megaman. :(
BTW, Dead Space 3 also was geared towards The Modern Warfare Generation, losing everything that was great about the previous two games.
Totally agreed, I want more Silent Hill 2 style games. In survival horror games, storyline, scare effect, limited ammo, and eerie environments should all come before action.
love the shirt and great mallrats reference
Wow, dude. You're really smart. The way you worded this is just so much better than anyone else I've heard.
This is a lot of the reason why I'm a big fan of Nintendo games, they're always doing things their own way and though it might not appeal to everyone, like most people in the last gen been torn and probably will still be in this one, about the Wii and Wii U and how different they are to other consoles. Deaths my FAVORITE BAND!!!!
Death is fuckin' awesome!
Fuck yeah! \m/
Death shirt FTW! And a Mallrats reference, I love this guy!
1:21 solid solid solid solid snake
Resident Evil R.I.P. 1996-2012
cap-com you know what's not profitable your business model
I don't know if you've done one yet, but I would like to see a video displaying all of your metal shirts like your epic wall of games.
I'm so jealous of your shirt collection!
This makes me happy, FINALLY, someone making sense!
My brother and I were just discussing how this and he pointed out part of the reason they removed the limited ammo issues is because of the online functionality leading to issues with one person hogging the ammo. True Capcom is dying thought and not giving fans what we want so in the end they just business.
6 would've benefited from doing away with the hokey love plot, reintroducing forgone characters of series past, and adding cohesion between plots to give us a more satisfying conclusion. 100% agree with you so sad to say but R.I.P RESIDENT EVIL
I played it at my friend's place originally like last summer, we haven't so recently. Terrifying at first, but once you get the hang of it the first few times... it no longer becomes scary.
Capcom says lots of things, recently they said this:
"There's no difference between DLC and on-disc locked content".
THANK YOU for voicing what so many of us feel about Resident Evil!!!!!!!!!!
I used to love call of duty. Now I got fed up and traded in all my games. And bought many games the opposite of it. Because it was unique and stuck to there stories, themes, characters and overall idea of the games.
Also love your shirts.
DEATH! Love the shirt man, saw your Symbolic shirt in another episode as well, awesome.
This is in EVERYTHING, music, movies, games, etc. If something shows to be successful, expect everyone to be jumping on board making something like it.
I really like the short angry birds rant at 3:00 xD
Nice Mallrats reference.
I love survival horror as well but I just came here to admire the DEATH shirt. R.I.P Chuck Schuldiner 1967-2001
dead space, resident evil, alien vs predator and even limbo were all really successful and critically acclaimed.
RE:Revelations was creepy and atmospheric even had some scary parts that were kinda a throw back to the first. Gives hope that the series will still be good in one form.

True. Played RE5 yesterday, survival horror is profit however action is required with survival horror so people are interested.
Shinji Mikami (creator of Resident Evil) is currently directing a game known right now as "Project Zwei" which will come out later this year.
He says: “I’ve found my focus and once again I’m striving for pure survival horror.”
I chuckled a bit at your angry birds remark.
I agree, but I feel a little too well equipped for it not to be action horror
"Angry Zombies" actually sounds like a cute idea, y'know, for a mini-game or something.
I grew up playing surival horror. Mostly residents evil games. I still love them.
Fashionable male is from the mallrats movie by Kevin smith, great movie
So true, the best parts that made the games scary was the fact you had to watch your ammo and make shure you didn't waste it, now capcom is more like drakes uncharted or yeah call of duty in action wise, but still good games.
Nice Death shirt dude!
Think*
Fashionable male is the name of a store in Mallrats, Ben Affleck played the role of Shannon Hamilton the store owner.
I really miss when Call of Duty and Medal of Honor were about WWII. Back then they actually told a story, they were good. To this day my favorite PS2 game is CoD 2 Big Red One.
You're totally right pal.
please do a rant on the resident evil 6 ! i can't wait to hear ur opinion on that one haha!
I redact my previous statement. I just remembered A.) Tomb Raider and B.) they CAN make things scary again when they try.
badass shirt dude!
Yup, same here. I was glad they released Rebirth, but since then, there was pretty much nothing.
Thing about survival horror, they still have yet to make a full zombie game.
No not get from a-b etc. I mean an actual zombie horror survival. Like at day you adventure to find supplies and food, at night you have to hunker down and defence against the ifnected. Death is my Favorite Band!!!
I miss the feeling of RE1, being trapped in a gigantic house with narrow corridors and shit making noise all around you.
I loved the Leon campaign on the demo so far it gave me some hope and I'm getting the anthology edition.
Dude, I keep trying to drill it into people's heads... "If you're trying to be like someone else, you're not being you." Same thing for companies, video games, etc.
That could work, and it would be very interesting to see.
Talking about Chris breaking monsters over his knees... now I want Duke Nukem in Silent Hill.
COD must be destroyed! It is a sick evil cancer on the gaming world!
And 5 years later they released RE7....
Which is still shit, tbh.
@@CryingZombie666 Pffffhahahahahaha yeah whatever you Boomer or whatever you are
Yeah bro your Death shirt is awesome!!!
People hated Ashley yet at least she didn't waste ammo.
You made a good point, Capcoms more concerned with money than games these days...similar to the Final Fantasy games, they used to be about giving the fans what they loved, but now these bastards are concerned with how much money they make.
man... you said everything i think about resident evil and capcom
Never heard of this guy before, but he's wearing a DEATH shirt so I love him.
Capcom: Survival horror is no longer profitable.
Me: Oh really? Well The Last of Us would like to have a word with you. It's a mere PS3 exclusive, yet it was very successful.
The very sad thing is; Capcom is all about money not about fan satisfaction.
Really I see why Capcom says this, cause almost every major shooters makes a crap load of money while other smaller genres don't fare as well unless they are some major one.
I liked Mallrats! Weird how every critic say its Kevin Smith's big fail...
Well said!! I love Survival Horror! Capcom need to understand the gaming world needs more different type of games, not every type of game can sell like Modern Warfare but it will still be very profitable.
So we went from Survival horror to killing floor type zombie slaughter.
Not following what is popular and continuing to be oneself to stand out sounds more like a life lesson.
Death rules, we lost Chuck Schuldiner way too soon! But at least we have the remasters!
Those clickers still have me on my toes
Capcom needs a reality check BIG TIME! Survival Horror always has been the bad ass genre for video games since the very original Alone in the Dark came out back in the day. Everyone needs a good scare once in a while in video games and that's the best thing about that genre.
I'm digging the angry birds meets zombies mix
Resident Evil 0,1,2,3 and CVX were legendary. Capcom, please take Resident Evil back to its survivor horror roots.
i love this guy subbed and all
