But there are many things that companies have taken away from us for no good reasons. It comes down to companies changing things to be more profitable. Companies such as LG who tried to be different and give something good to their customers just couldn't compete with some of the bigger players, so sadly LG has departed from the smartphone market. LG Mobile, you will be remembered 🥲 At the end of the day thats just how business works, but that isn't to say it's entirely good or bad. my last few phones have had a multicolor led charge indicator on the top edge of the screen/frame that is only used during phone-off charging. this is something i loved in blackberry days to identify who or what service a message was coming from without having any interaction with the screen. i would love to customize this to 'tethered connection with transcoding' status link and perhaps some sort of message notifications. i remember when the moto razr v3 seem editor tool leaked and you could customize EVERY aspect of the device- logos, sounds, splash screens, carrier locks, volume limits and more. im not asking granular access on an android device, but if the feature is there (and i swear it was part of the worldwide product launch) i want to customize it.
I've rarely ever found myself needing expandable storage since most phones these days carry a pretty good amount of internal storage. Never needed a headphone jack because Bluetooth earbuds are easier to use and sound just fine. Phones have fast charging now so you can top up in only 30 or so minutes, or the battery life is so good that you don't even really need to recharge. We live in a time now where there really isn't such a thing as a bad phone, even budget models are good. I don't miss the older phones, not at all.

I wouldn't say that older phones were overall better than phones nowadays, but: 1. Some of their features were better - like the removable battery. 2. The best smartphone in 2009 cost a few hundreds dollars. The best smartphone today costs way 1,200 dollars or more. Smartphones have gotten better in large part because they've gotten more expensive - not so much because the technology improved.

Valid points. It's a shame we had to part with removable batteries, micro SD cards and 3.5mm jacks, but this also lead to having more room for larger batteries, waterproof designs and better cameras (even if we don't count software improvements, hardware ones are great to have). @@jordanrayo2425 bruh, I'm not saying Sony is perfect. In fact, if anything, it's a love/hate relationship (almost like some irl cases). However, it's the full set that makes it special: like you said, top of the line CPU/GPU along with all the specs possible: 4k screen, headphone jack, sd card slot, big battery, manual camera controls, and the list goes on while having a solid stock Android ROM. It is indeed very expensive, and they're so stubborn for not shipping the big sensors that they make, and they support the devices for 2/3 years (although updates are monthly and right on schedule). But there aren't any real flaws or lack of features, the cons you have on other devices are usually from personal preference like pic/video processing, fav skin, AI features, etc. So, I'd rather rock Sony all day, no bs or services attached to them, and you actually feel like the owner of a product.

Wow I was just looking at my HTC One M7 the other day. It's so aesthetically pleasing. The front facing speakers were giant, loud, high quality, and exactly symmetrical. The bezels were large but also served a purpose. When the M8 came out and shrunk the top speaker, I knew where things were headed... Now every phone claims "stereo" speakers but they are horribly unbalanced and use software to try and fix it, but it's not the same. This isn't to say that phones haven't gotten better we have better ui, better software support, more apps, better batteries, better cameras, better screens, and many cool new features. But there are many things that companies have taken away from us for no good reasons. It comes down to companies changing things to be more profitable.
Companies such as LG who tried to be different and give something good to their customers just couldn't compete with some of the bigger players, so sadly LG has departed from the smartphone market. LG Mobile, you will be remembered 🥲
At the end of the day thats just how business works, but that isn't to say it's entirely good or bad. It's up to the companies, and us to change things for the better.
💯
About better UI I disagree. I don't really like the minimalistic UI we have... literally everywhere. I prefer the more detailed and stylish UI of, say HTC or even old Iphones with skeumorphism. But hey. It's all subjective and if you like the simplistic UI that's totally fine.

I agree with you on the apps, but the old phones themselves were crap. Constant crashing, freezing, lagging, no tolerance for an accidental water drop, and they lasted just 1/2 as long as the modern ones
Tbh this has just made me realise how we went from using phones for communication to now basically doing everything on them and to the point of addiction in some cases, I just think unless you use your phone for work, you’re probably wasting a lot of time on it!
I had the HTC M7 and M8 and the only thing that held them back was the chip and software if they were to be released today it would be a bestseller
That wasn't a problem at all, they simply cost too much and cameras were controversial and not marketed well. People saw 4MP and thought that they sell antiquated crap instead of actually bringing a genuine improvement.

Why have whole world has forgotten that handling phones with one hand is actually convenient, especially when you are not sitting ? Can't blame the manufacturers for this as the whole world seems to be going after bigger phones, the one we used to call phablets back in the day seems to be smaller than most phones of today!

That said I used to have that HTC phone, it was pretty cool, the speakers were great and it even had an IR blaster, meaning that I could control tvs with it.
my last few phones have had a multicolor led charge indicator on the top edge of the screen/frame that is only used during phone-off charging. this is something i loved in blackberry days to identify who or what service a message was coming from without having any interaction with the screen. i would love to customize this to 'tethered connection with transcoding' status link and perhaps some sort of message notifications. i remember when the moto razr v3 seem editor tool leaked and you could customize EVERY aspect of the device- logos, sounds, splash screens, carrier locks, volume limits and more. im not asking granular access on an android device, but if the feature is there (and i swear it was part of the worldwide product launch) i want to customize it.

I wouldn't say that older phones were overall better than phones nowadays, but:
1. Some of their features were better - like the removable battery.
2. The difference between a Galaxy S2 and a Galaxy S5 was probably way, way bigger than the difference between a Galaxy S21 and a Galaxy S24 (ultra or not).
3. The best smartphone in 2009 cost a few hundreds dollars. The best smartphone today costs way 1,200 dollars or more. Smartphones have gotten better in large part because they've gotten more expensive - not so much because the technology improved.
