Without any doubt the PS3 is my favorite console of all time, even I still buy and play games on it to this days.
Aside of have a giant catalog of games very rich in "variety" in third and FIRST-party games (something that Sony abandoned complety nowdays), the console itself had so many features that no console could beat, I mean what other consoles had the functions to:
    -Create and save music playlist.
-Burn CD music and convert it to a mp3 file digitally without the need of a PC.
-Import music to a game and make your own custom soundtrack on it (very few games did that).
-Download directly to the console or a USB device music, videos and images by the console's web browser.
-Be able to use a printer on it.
-Be able to install or use other operative systems on it like Linux (but sadly this option was removed).

I blinked and the 2010's disappeared, so this console is still only ten years old for me. This is the console I spent hours curating my music, movie, and wallpaper collection as much as playing games. It was priming me for caving to buy a PC.
Wow, I haven't used that store in over ten years, but it feels like just yesterday I would wake up and immediately hop onto my PS3 to hunt for PSN deals. Sometimes I open the Steam store and I feel like something's wrong but I can't figure out what. I just now realized from this video, but it feels wrong because everything isn't in columns of three and taking five-to-nine seconds to load the thumbnails.

As a self entitled "PS3 Connoisseur" i can say one of the coolest things about jailbreaking a PS3 is PS2 Backwards Compatibility and system mods, fan/temperature control and monitoring, even full UI remaster, in game FPS/temperate, GPU overclocking, emulators, PS2 backwards compatibility is a little tricky, Sony developed a PS2 emulator to run the PS2 Classics games bought on the PS Store, with a Jailbreak you can freely get any PS2 ISO to run in this emulator, with varying results, some titles are perfectly playable while others won't boot, but compability is very high (between 80 and 83%) and some games can get fixed with config files.

If you're playing PS3 in 2024 you need to change the thermal paste, switch out the HDD for a SSD and install CFW. With CFW you can install all your game discs on the SSD. The console runs silently and load times are quicker. Another upgrade is to use a mClassic to give a sharper image with less aliasing. You can also use a mClassic daisychained with a 4K Gamer Pro to get the games looking nice on a 4K display.

I go back to games from the 1980s regularly still. ...and heck, a lot of the modern games I play look and play like they're from the 90s. I wish companies like Capcom would make throwback RE titles. I think Konami should still be making 2D Castlevania games. There's a market for it and the games cost a fraction of the time & money to put together when compared to modern titles. One failed project can put a well known developer out of business in 2024, solely because of production costs. This is also why we see very few AAA titles that stand out from the crowd. They have to stick with what has proven to work/sell.
Konami/Capcom could put a group of 10 talented ppl together & they could churn out a great RE/Castlevania game every 6 months. They'd sell great at $9.99 digitally and some of 'em would even do well at $30 for physical copies. The existence of brands like Limited Run games proves there's a market for this.

    1. Get a Slim PS3 (CECH-20xx or CECH-21xx)
    2. Upgrade the internal storage and install CFW (those above were the last models to fully support it)
    3. Install Webman mod, activate your console & install PKGi.
    4. Enjoy your PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games. Compatibility for PS2 games is around 77~81% + there are HD remasters like the Ratchet or Sly HD Trilogies, while for PSP it's roughly ~35%. PS1 compatibility using the PS1 Classics emulator is pretty much flawless, 99% of the games will be perfect.
You can also follow similar steps for an Xbox 360 and take advantage of its backwards compatibility. Owning a RGH 360 and CFW PS3 will let you play a lot of PS2/Xbox games thanks to backwards compatibility. I would say they're easily the best consoles to own right now that are super easy to setup on a modern TV and install games if you're into older games.

Don't recommend CECH-20xx slims (launch edition slims from 2009).
These things produce high amounts of heat output, weakening the console's reliability and making it susceptible to overheating and hardware failures. It's
best to avoid these when shopping for slim models.
You can also get CFW for some CECH-25xx slim models from mid
2010 to 2011. These things are great in terms of power efficiency and come with good Blu-Ray driver controllers embedded in the motherboard for greatly improved Blu-Ray reliability. GPUs and CPUs on these have great
      reliability as well.
And CECH-21xx slim models (from early 2010 to mid 2010) are pretty decent in terms of power efficiency and reliability of the Blu-Ray drive, CPU, and GPU. CECH-25xx slims are just better.

Problem with CECH-25xx is that it's too much of a gamble to buy one of those online so I'd recommend the CECH-21xx if you're chasing the best possible model without worrying about CFW support but those are actually rare, at least in Europe that's why I went with a 20xx.

I’ve loved the PS3 since day one, and still it’s my favorite system of all time. Glad to see people finally coming around to it. Also glad that I got my games back when I was getting them for under $10 each. Being that the 360 was the popular system, it was easy to find games for PS3 cheap. The xbox 360 and ps3 was the most advanced console generation for the time. When pc master race was ruled with RTS games like Dota. Starcraft.red alert, fps like counter strike, halflife and left4dead. And mmorpgs like ragnarok. M.U. and more. When graphics on the consoles was better than the pc counterpart. When powerful graphics card was not really mainstream. When pc monitors was just starting to be little flat screen while tvs were already big plasmas or early lcds And when steam was not really a marketplace for games yet. That's why consoles were king back then. But by the ps4 and xbox 1 generation . Pc master race really caught up. And consoles are lagging behind because pc parts have new releases more often than over 6 years for a console. That's why more people invest more on pc now. Since aside for being a work or school computer it can also game better now. That is also why exclusives are far more valuable now for the consoles so they could still sell the console instead of giving it away like xbox did. Sony is doing it little by little but pc users not wanting them because of PSN requirements. That's why the 360 and ps3 was very nostlagic.

I love the PS3. Still play it to this day. I do keep it stock. It's tied to my PS account I use on the PS4/5 and I don't want to risk a ban. I like to go for legit trophies occasionally. I have a true backlog a miles long, so no need to really jailbreak it yet. It's cool that people have figured it out though.

If you ask me, the PS3 was the renaissance of the hack-and-slash. God of War 3 needs no introduction, and there were a number of obligatory ports of the older games, sometimes even on a single disk. But there was also Bayonetta, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Dante's Inferno, Darksiders, DMC, Marlow Briggs, the first Space Marine game, a handful of Kingdom Hearts installments and remasters alike, and even a Splatterhouse remake if you're into tragically unpolished jank.
Beyond that, given the PS3's pedigree compared to the Xbox 360, you probably wouldn't be surprised to hear it was a real weeb's machine as well, somewhat touched upon by the aforementioned Kingdom Hearts. The amount of JRPGs that the PS3 housed was absolutely colossal, from Final Fantasy to Disgaea to Atellier...

I have a slim model still. Have it hooked up to my 1440p monitor which scales incredibly well since 720p is basically half the output resolution. RPCS3 is awesome for the games that work on it. I backed up my library and got some of them to work pretty well on my Steam Deck that way. Games like Killzone 2 still need a decent amount of power to run correctly. But RPCS3 is coming along very nicely.

I still have both my 360 (not my OG one) and my PS3. I think the reason for 360 being the one everyone had initially being the comical price the PS3 launched at, with the controller lacking rumble too... :D
Games for both these consoles in this generation were just good fun.

The console with my most happy memories. Inviting my friend over to play Skate 3 and passing the 1 controller I had to each other every time we fall off the skateboard, playing Minecraft PS3 Edition online with random guys and enchanting sticks with Knockback II to play a last-man-standing-skyblock-game we build ourselves, playing GTA V with that one friend at home that showed me how to get a lap dance in the strip club, playing Plants vs Zombies garden warfare for hours everyday with my friends online, talk to random people in the MWII lobbies, PUTTING MY SKYLANDERS ON THE PORTAL DAAAAAAAMMMNNN, I love the PS3!!! Playing Little Big Planet with my little cousins, because everyone could play that game, oh my god I could go on and on guys 😭

I really do believe that 2005-2015 was the sweet spot for gaming. Yes, there are masterpieces from the 90's but there was so much technological limitation back then. Now we have outstanding graphics and processing speeds, but terrible games. The PS3 and Xbox 360 have the masterpieces with the tech.

I’ve said it before to my friends that the PS3 was Sony’s best system. Sure I had the PS4 and currently have the PS5 but the PS3 if you had the 60GB it had backwards compatibility was good times. If the PS5 had backwards compatibility it would be an easy win that’s one of the things that’s sitting Xbox upright along with Ultimate Game Pass.

Something I just discovered playing PS3 last night... you can pop in almost any CD, select 'Import', and it will save a copy of that CD locally. I dunno how Sony got away with that legally. Also pour one out for the lack of CD support on PS5 😢

    • @TheOnlyPedroGameplays
      @TheOnlyPedroGameplays วันที่ผ่านมา +2

They got away with it by putting copy protection on the songs you copied from the CD. After putting them into your hard drive, you can’t share them.

I'm probably saying this in the wrong place but the PS3 is my least favorite console of all time as a tech enthusiast but I still love your videos as a retro collector. I myself have 7 consoles a windows xp gaming pc and a regular gaming pc plus plenty others. I had a jailbroken PS3 but I always just felt that the performance was subpar of any other way to play it but I also didn't grow up with one so I don't have a nostalgia factor. It was an amazing leap forward at the time from the PS3 and I love how the online service was free before sony started following the trend of greed in the industry.

  • @Dracorientalis

You are 100%. it was so good few countries militaries used them to as compute-sharing super computers!
I grew with NES Super Nintendo and Sega mega drive. by the time the PS3 came out I was start my IT career DevOps and had a big interest in hardware. What Sony did with the PS3 machine itself the (service were questionable. online multiplayer especially) but the actual machine was a BEAST! I was play Warcraft with linux on mine and the PC version of Crysis! I had a gaming PC too but I played warcraft and crysis on my PS3 too because I could... and cause it was well able for it! Same with the PS4 and same now again with the PS5 Sony solved a huge industry issue with bottlenecking on SSD. Plagues consoles and PCs alike. But sony have solved that problem now and they patented it lmao! So if you wondering why people say that some few games run better on a PS5 then they do on a 4090... thats why. It about the magic of their SSD read/write and how the other components talk to it!
One other thing... N64 and PS1 were the same gen and PS2 and Gamecube were the gen after that!

Been wanting one all my life, but where I am from, even to this day their prices aren't exactly great. And what's worse is I want a CFW compatible, not HEN. It's always a late slim or super slim, with fake controllers, going for 120 USD or more. I recently picked up a fat model, a rather uncommon sighting over here, but sadly it has the infamous YLOD issue, but hey it was almost free, and I got a hard drive with it, so I guess... worth it? :')
