Also, yes, we know “lightning has struck” is a reference to Harry’s scar. We assumed that much was obvious, and we liked the additional connection to Trelawney’s tarot card. But we should have known that if an obvious detail isn’t spoken aloud, a HP fan will always assume you don’t know it and make sure to tell you!
In my opinion one requirement is to get a clip of Fred and George Weasley in the final battle fighting one last time together because out of the entire series not once did we see the twins fight side by side.
i always took "lightning has struck" to be a reference to Harry's return/scar. didnt consider it to be about the tower as I didnt see why that would be the code for Harry's return.
FR, that’s what I always assumed too. It makes sense to be speaking in code to let people know that Harry was there. Didn’t even consider it to mean anything else
The Tower in tarot is an image of a tower being struck by lightning. It's also clearly a signal for Harry himself with his scar. So many children left behind...
@anthonyvillanueva5226 they still budged before WB and Universal I believe. When Iger went into negotiations he said that the demands sounded reasonable. From my understanding the choice to use cgi was from dinklege's criticism.
The thing you have to remember with the VFX in this movie is that it was the absolute peak of “3D” movies and some of the shots were clearly just service to people who paid extra to see it with glasses on. The shots of Bellatrix, Nagini, and Voldemort dying were more just made to look cool in 3D than having any deep symbolism or in-universe logic to them.
this is a good shout! it also gave me a ptsd flashback to being back in the theatre for that midnight release with the 3d glasses in the shape of round harry potter spectacles
Another requirement would be the final stand off being in the Great Hall with everyone circling around Harry and Voldemort with Harry calling Voldemort "Tom". Also the second half of the Battle of Hogwarts had Harry give all of his friends and loved ones the same protection his mom gave him since he sacrificed himself for them.
Also losing the constant crossing of streams between them (and everybody else, really) would be nice. And spells being different from each other and actually doing what they're supposed to.
19:15 neville‘s father wore a similarly patterned sweater in the original order of the Phoenix photo, the sweater they put him in for the battle of Hogwarts is probably a nod to his father rather than Lupin
i have ADORED this rewatch series!! what a way to revisit such a strong, prominent and defining part of my childhood! and what a way to end 2024! Bravo for the extensive research and work for these videos!
Same feeling for me. At 37, it's been a few years for me between my formative years of reading HP and all the contemporary shenanigans involving JKR and the FB movies. I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude for my own past with HP and a sense of revisionist acceptance that things change, shit will happen in the future that won't go your way, but you got to embrace the good, reject the bad and move on. Thank you so much - to the NR Team. This was the cherry on top of this year for me.
I saw a post somewhere once where someone noticed that each time a horcrux was destroyed Voldemort's cloak becomes more faded. It shows that with each piece of Voldy's soul dying his life essence fades, as well.
24:34 i gotta say, this part in the book really shows Snape's dueling ability, which is also sad bc he got that good from being so angry at his bullies. But 4 teachers at once is one of the most impressive fighting feats in the series
I always liked that Snape was a more complex character than he first seemed. He's not all bad, but not all good, either. He can be petty, and selfish, and cruel to children at times, but not to the point of putting them in danger. He still protects kids at his own risk.
It was said in an earlier book that making horcruxes out of living things is dangerous because they are living things that can still be killed, so the sword wasn't necessary to kill Nagini. I think Neville gets the sword to prove how brave he is, not because it was needed to kill Nagini, writing wise.
@@aussiedude3121 actually if I remember right, in the books at this point the snake was no longer in the bubble because Voldemort had thought he killed Harry already. Harry didn’t reveal himself at the point he did in the movie, he actually slipped his invisibility cloak on.
Nothing against Bonnie Wright of course, but Ginny was the most disappointing character they barely included, that was so important and badass in the books.
Thank you so much for breaking these down. These movies and books have had such an incredible impact on my life and it means a lot that you guys took the time to break them down. You have reignited a lost flame.
It always made me angry how everyone's spells connected in the movies. In the books, it's like a really rare thing that Harry and Voldies wands connect.
I'm pretty sure they block Killing Curses after Harry sacrifices himself. He bestows the same protection his mother gave him on the people fighting the Deatheaters and it lets them block it with a protection charm. I don't remember if it protected Harry himself from it though at that point.
ok, teddy's blood should be (in combo with the potion that Lupin takes) a cure for the lycanthropy. He is son of werewolf and metamorph - he could be in theory able to control his physical transformation.
@@NewRockstars yeah It doesn’t even come from the books! I believe Professor McG took their wands in the books. I did read that they meant for Snape to take their wands in the movie. There are frames when the wand isn’t there and then there are frames where they happen to reappear, possibly a continuity error which has caused confusion.
Why would shamus be safe, he's a half-blood too...he literally says so in first movie...."me dad's a juggle, me mom's a witch, bit of a nasty shock when he found out"
I've never seen the Potter movies until ya'll decided to do this rewatch. So this was a 1st watch for me. I liked these movies alot more than I thought I would. Good job guys.
25:10 this is movie specific too but snape picks up the wands off the carrows as he takes off you can seem him bounce over both bodies before smashing through the window
@@stezzaplays3979 this is highly debated! After Snape is gone you can clearly see a wand in one of their hands. I think they meant for Snape to take their wands but they screwed up. Most likely a continuity error.
The dragon on Gringotts in Universal is seriously so cool. I was so thoroughly impressed. The ride itself is pretty fun too, but the ride queue is amazing. I was dealing with some health issues at the time and couldn't handle stairs, so we ended up getting to use the elevator and even that was gorgeous and themed.
Yup! In the books Voldemort doesn’t slice his throat or whatever. He put the bubble around the snake around Snape so the snake can kill him. He thought Snape was the owner and thought the wand wouldn’t allow him to kill Snape himself. Good catch!
@NewRockstar at 42:45, I think Voldemort used Nagini to end Snape because he feared that the Avada Kedavra curse he casts using the Elder Wand might bounce back being he is not its true master, and he will be attacking the wand's master based on his wrong perception.
Loved these re-watches. The only change to HP7/2 I'd like to include is the epic reveal of Harry in the dining hall for his confrontation with Voldy. That was an intensely written battle, with the Bellatrix 1 v3 duel before Molly steps in, and Harry protecting everyone from Voldemort with a massive protego. I think a two hour final episode will capture the last chapters perfectly.
This series was phenomenal! I'm a lifelong Potter head and have never lost a HP quiz, but there is so much in these films that I never spotted so this must have taken an insane amount of work. Well done! 🎉
I think we all can agree that the one thing the series absolutely must have is a constant reminder that the Longbottoms were tortured with the Cruciatus Curse to the point of insanity.
I loved how Ralph yawned yelled the killing curse and I remember watching this movie with my friends in senior year of high school and saying Gandolf when Dumbledore showed up. Also I think you mentioned hagrid holding Harry in his arms when he believed him to be dead was symbolic to him when he left him with the Dursley’s
1:00:08 "The initial volley on the stairs is a sequence of green Killing Curses that Harry shouldn't have been able to block with Protego but you know it's now kind of like just a video game." Does help when your opponent is using a sentient weapon that has sworn its loyalty to you, no?
I’m so happy that you mentioned the way Helena acted made it look like Emma Watson in cosplay! It totally did and it’s messed with me for years lol 😅 first time I watched it I was so mad thinking that they just had Emma Watson dress up lol! Voldemort has Nagini kill Snape because he believes Snape is master of elder wand and therefore the wand won’t kill him.
Exactly he needed a wand-less way to kill Snape
