I don't know whether it's just me, There is a slight sad voice break in the Alan Rickman's delivery of Avada Kedevra to kill Dumbledore and I loved that subtle detail
Harry high on Felix Felicis is my favorite part of the whole series. Daniel Radcliffe’s mannerisms and acting choices are hilarious during that scene 😂
I love pointing out that Snape's Killing Curse wasn't Green, but Dark Blue/Green. Meaning his heart wasn't in it, but he and Dumbledore knew the force of the blast would knock him out of the tower. Its why Dumbledore choose the Astronomy Tower to do this in the first place
I just realized that Snapes very early dismissal of Harrys interest in Potions may be why he never bothers to learn more about it. The one time he showed interest, he was shut down and embarrassed to the class. And since our early years really influence our behaviors, Harry probably stopped bothering in Potions class out of spite.
Also doesn’t help that to Harry, Potions is like that one school subject that you just dread the most bcuz either the teacher is not that chill or you just never understand the subject and majorly fall behind on. But in Harry’s case, all Snape does in every Potions class is just say anything to get under his skin and use any excuse to deduct Gryffindor house marks.
Yeah it’s a fact in the book. When Harry is doing his practical Potions OWL exam, he says he feels a lot better and more confident without Snape being there. And Snape has literally sabotaged Harry in Potions at times, like when he dropped his sample Potion on purpose to give Harry a zero. Harry gets the second highest grade on his Potions OWL, so he is good at Potions.
Fun fact: This movie reunites Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) and Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley) as they all were in The Borrowers (1997) together. I always enjoyed watching that movie when I was a kid and it was nice seeing them all in the same movie again.
43:48 - The late Robert Knox, who died too young after getting stabbed protecting his brother during a pub fight during the making of the movie. Rest in peace, Robert.
The 5th book 100% says Regulas Black's name. I vividly remember finishing reading the 6th book and then having a great conversation with my dad and sister speculating about what would happen in book 7, and we were looking through the older books for clues, and we saw the reference to Regulas' name at Grimold Place, and we guessed that he was RAB.
In my opinion I think they need to actually hire actors and actresses that look like the characters from the book. I’m not trying to dismiss an actor from playing a role that they can probably do I just think it will be better to have them look as they do in the book
I like your theory on Dumbledore asking about Hermione and Harry’s relationship and its future effect on Ron. Also Dumbledore knows he’s about to die so he may be curious who Harry could end up with in his future? 😢
Harry amd hagrid used agumenti, furthering the theory that dumbledore repaired hagrids wand with the elder wand and transfigured it into an umbrella for him. Really hope that gets explored in the series
1:06:13 It's been a few years since I've read the books but if I remember correctly, Draco disarming Dumbledore was not something Dumbledore planned. He wanted the curse/power of the Elder Wand to die with him as its last owner which would have happened had Snape killed him before he was disarmed by Draco.
The confundus charm can also be used on inanimate objects. Fake Moody said it had been used to put Potter's name in the Goblet of Fire. Maybe in the film The confundus was used on the Broom?
54:15 most of that improv and the way of acting during the Felix felicis scenes was due to Dan being drunk on set. He’s opened up a lot over the years about his mental and physical health at the time, including the drinking problem he had. From what I recall, he also doesn’t remember a lot of this film because of how bad it got.
27:48 I had to stop what I was doing to point out how absolutely crazy it is to interpret the person to have successfully brewed the potion to be anyone other than Snape, the half blood prince who's notes harry proceeds to follow to become the second person to brew the potion in this same scene
@@dionringgold they even mentioned that Snape had to correct the textbook, further solidifying the fact that nobody else would have done it correctly as they'd all be following the given instructions, which are apparently wrong
minute 58:50 erick said "voldermont had unknowingly formed his sixth horcrux harry potter in 1991 when he killed lily evans potter"...contradicts with minute 59:02 when he said "technically from harry destroying the diary in 1992"......harry was age 12 on the film/book chamber of secrets when he destroyed tom riddle's diary...with that logic harry becoming the 6th horcrux would have been if voldermont killing lily happened in 1981 when harry was around 1yr old.
15:04 "Bellatrix forces Snape to make the Unbreakable Vow." I immediately broke into a laugh remembering Ron explain that to Harry “An Unbreakable Vow?” said Ron, looking stunned. “Nah, he can’t have. … Are you sure?” “Yes, I’m sure,” said Harry. “Why, what does it mean?” “Well, you can’t break an Unbreakable Vow. …” “I’d worked that much out for myself, funnily enough. What happens if you break it, then?”
This movie did a very poor job of explaining why Snape is called the Half-Blood Prince. It should've been his movie but instead was all about needless teenage drama.
The result of cutting so much backstory during the literal "backstory" book turned movie. 😂 In an age where 2 part movies are more common than ever these books really did deserve that treatment always earlier
Suprised you did not mention that during the liquid luck scene with harry acting funny, Dan was actually intoxicated fom drinking as that is a significant factor into how he acted. Obviously alcoholism is not something that should be utilized, however, I think we can all agree and the way in which it effected Dan's portrayal of being on liquid luck was brilliant
53:30 This is the same mirrored walls as when Harry is training Dumbledore's Army in the previous film. 1:07:06 There are definitely people like that. I'm one. It's the best way to do it. You can get all the visuals for your mental pictures when reading the book for more details without being disappointed by what was left out.
The only thing that makes no sense is that in half blood prince dumbledore reacts like he is hearing about the horcruxes for the first time but in the second deathly hallows we see a flash back of snape and him taking about the horcruxes from the time of prisoner of azkaban . So please can anyone explain 😅??
This was my favorite book, the plot twists, Voldemort's story, all the reveals, Dumbledore in action after the taste we had in OotP, and how everything started to fall into place. But then the movie came out, and it was a gloomy, dark, teenage romance drama
I have been waiting for this since you started this series. It's my favorite of the series and you guys do a good job of grasping some BTS perspectives
One thing has made me wonder: how does anyone know that because Tom asks the professor about splitting his soul 7 times, that in the end, that’s the exact number of horcruxes there are? It’s not possible to have changed his mind or done it fewer or more times? How can they know? Their determination seems to be based solely on that conversation in the memory.
They're using the evidence they have. Tom Riddle has a propensity for the number 7, and there was nothing available to say he had, or would, change his mind - why would they not search for 7?
I think it's also implied that there is a limit to the amount of times someone can split their soul before they lose themselves completely. Perhaps Dumbledore understood 7 is the extent Voldemort would take it to still be able to function as a powerful wizard.
I think they should keep the lilly transforming into the fish story. That's one thing I liked better in this movie than in the book. I would also like to see all of Trelawney's scenes, Draco and Moaning Myrtle, Madam Rosmerta, Harry threatening to blow down Hagrid's door to talk with him, the students attempting to do non-verbal spells, Harry refilling the wine, Dumbledore delivering Harry's to the Weasleys.
I think since Harry literally used Snape‘s 6th grade book and instructions to brew a perfect potion it was most likely Snape who did it perfectly once. Who knows if the price was the same back then and what Snape did with it.
Something cool about Dumbledore was a time when Dumbledore had all three Deathly Hallows. We know that Dumbledore was the one who brought Harry the cloak and he brought him the Snitch that had the Sorcerer's Stone inside and as we know he has the Elder Wand so in order for him to be able to bring Harry all the things Dumbledore had to have had all three at some point.
It always seemed kind of weird to me that the stone of the Gaunt ring was the resurrection stone, but the ring was a horcrux. Seems awfully convenient that it was just the ring part lol
