tbh he prob just kept hidden for the 10 years, then right before he sent it off with Lucius, he just popped in, and explained the situation to his 16yo self. lol. no matter what age he was, riddle was generally able to get up to speed pretty quickly, especially when he doesn't have to weedle info out of people subtley, and his older self can just give him the entire plan haha

Can we please appreciate what Sirius Black has gone through in this version events. So, his best friend and his wife were tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange, his best friend was killed and Lily was driven to agonising insanity, which is worse than death, and Sirius had to raise Harry and take him to visit her which must have been worse than grieving her death. All of this was caused by his other friend, Pettigrew. And then, after raising Harry for 10 years and being undoubtedly closer to him than he was in the main story, he dies too, aged 11. I honestly think Sirius, given the choice, would have happily crashed in Azkaban for 12 years and allowed the entire world to think he was a murderer if it saved Lily a lifetime of suffering and saved Harry's life in the long term, even if it meant he'd have had to endure the Dursleys and Voldemort for 16 years first. Sirius must be overcome with grief at his failure to protect his best friend's son which he will undoubtedly blame himself for because he's Sirius.

One thing I miss here is an explanation of how, and for what crime, Barty Crouch Junior was caught. In the main story, he helped torture the Longbottoms after Voldemort's downfall; but if Voldemort didn't fall, I would assume he'd actually see the value of keeping Crouch Junior's Death Eater position a secret: as the son of Crouch Senior, he'd actually be much more valuable as a spy within the Ministry than in any activity that would jeopardize his position as heir-to-the-future-Minister. However, if Junior was never sent to torture the Potters (the equivalent of his crime in the main story), and was never exposed as a Death Eater -- why did Fudge become Minister at all? He wasn't the obvious pick for that post; Crouch Senior was. And with no scandals attached to his name, he *would* have become Minister, and (as long as he didn't suspect his son) would support and encourage his son's career within the Ministry. I was actually disappointed that we didn't get to see Crouch Senior as a wizened, suspicious Minister for Magic, looking for signs of Voldemort's return, while his own son, rising to a senior position within the Ministry, was covertly spying for Voldemort the whole time... Maybe do a separate what-if scenario on that?
Fun option for such a scenario: at some point, Crouch Junior becomes DADA teacher under his true name -- *not* by impersonating Mad-Eye (the latter, for his part, remains an active auror much longer than he did in the main story: he would have done much better under the ever-suspicious Crouch than under the everything's-OK-nothing-dark-here Fudge. Maybe he even becomes Head of the Auror Office!)
I mean this might still come back as the stor isnt over yet. also just because he was the obvious choice doesnt mean that he was a shoe in.

All to be in a good position in the ministry of magic for his dark master use!
Yes Junior would also faked his mother's death by some random disease too or she is on imperius, but i would not be surprised if he did such thing, so fanatical he was.
I think, since Fudge IS Minister, Barty Crouch Jr was still somehow apprehended as a Death Eater. Maybe caught in a lost battle before Voldemort's disappearance.
One thing that’s bugged me since I first read Chamber of Secrets is how in the name of Merlin did Madam Pomfrey administer the mandrake draught to Nearly Headless Mick?
I just watched the 2nd movie with my kids tonight and was thinking the same thing!
I believe It's explained that as a ghost he didn't need the mandrake draught, he returned to normal after a period of time.
Awesome narrative aside, the "Unedited footage of kids feeling safe at Hogwarts," and "Unedited footage of Harry being safe at the Dursley's," killed me. XD

Have another idea for alternative history. What if James and Lily survived but Harry was still the chosen one. How would James and Lily be as parents, how would Harry turn out to be and a bunch of other interesting plotlines that could be explored.
That has the potential to be another 7 episode series like "what if harry was in Slytherin

@@Ollie.H-2301 technically the prophecy never says the chosen one's parents have to die or even be harmed only that they are born in a certain time frame and that their parents have fought voldemort 3 times before.
@@donb7519 Technically, you have selective memories, because the most important part to it was "And the Dark Lord shall mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not." This means that Voldemort will unsuccessfully attack one of them. It's only unsuccessful when a parent sacrifices themself to save their child, casting sacrificial love. This is exactly what happened to Harry which is why he was protected from Voldemort until he was 17.

Really loved this What If. It's very intriguing to see how different things would be. Sad Harry is gone but i think it's awesome he did the same thing his mom did in the OG timeline. I hope you guys continue this series but i understand that this is soooo different that it's hard to figure out what would happen next.
I really like this What If series so I got some for you guys.
• What if Fudge believed Harry about Voldemort returning. What would change?
• What If Dumbledore adopted Tom Riddle and raised him. I know it's way out their but it could be interesting.
• What If Snape was in Gryffindor. Would the Marauders still bully him, would Snape and Lilly get together, etc. So much potential with this one.
• What If Draco was sorted into Gryffindor. This could easily be a 7 part series. How would Lucius react? Would his views start to change sooner?

Didn't Harry get the twin wand because there was a part of Voldemort's soul in him? If Neville wasn't attacked as a baby, that wouldn't have happened, so why would he get that wand? I do think he'd get the same owl though, if Hagrid is taking him to Diagon Alley. But why would Harry get a toad? Edit: Having watched the whole story now: I think it would have been better if Neville got a regular wand his first year, broke it during the Chamber of Secrets fiasco, and then got the twin wand the summer before his second year.
I dont think Tom would come back "fully" if the older Voldemort was still alive.
I'm also curious if Neville still became a Horcrux in this version, since there would be major troubles later on if he didn't. Would this mean that the Horcrux in the diary split itself and part of it attaches to Neville? Self conscious Horcruxes that are able to make other Horcruxes sounds like an interesting yet (for the sake of keeping at least close to the original story) absolutely nightmarish topic to explore.

Can we get a Super Carlin Brothers version of what happened in the 10 years before Lily and James were killed. I realized recently that Lily and James would have just started Hogwarts when He Who Must Not Be Named started his rise to power. I would love to hear what you think was going on in the Wizarding Community during this time.
I may be one odd out, but all I can think about is Harry, Sirius and Snape meeting each other from time to time at St Mungu's. Snape would defenently visit her and feeling guilty of what happened to her. That would also explain the interesting dynamic between Snape and Harry at school.
I would love to write a chapter of one of the interactions in the past at St Mungu's, perhaps in different memories chared by Sirius and/or Snape.
They would be funny, sad but still memories that can show how Harry was.
I would personally think that Snape would atleast tolerate Sirius and Harry around Lily - even if she may not be able to understand what's happening around her. He would care that much.

What do you mean Snape would tolerate Harry and Sirius? Harry is her literal son and Sirius is one of her closest friends and Godfather of said son. They definitely are more important to her than Some boy she was friends with as a kid (And was a death eater, on the side of those who actually did that to her). The question is rather, would Harry and Sirius tolerate Snape around Lily

In this version, my thinking, I really wanted to have Snape not be the villan. People can do bad things, but they can also change - if they really want to. Maybe there will always be tension but if both side was just okay with eachother, specially with a person all three care about.

I really want to see a What If video on what the series would have been like if Lily and James did use Dumbledore as their secret keeper. What the whole series would have been like if Harry was still the chosen one, but his parents survived. Similar to how Neville’s parents would have stayed hidden if they used Dumbledore. I’m curious how that could have changed things… what kind of person Harry would have been, and what the war would look like with most of the marauders alive and in their prime.
It will never make sense to me that they didn't use James or Lily themselves as Secret Keepers.

I could barely sleep after watching this, I was so stirred up about how amazing Neville and Harry’s friendship was and I was devastated by the ending! I wanted to work through it with Neville in the story, and didn’t realize it was going to end there! I think this hits so much harder because we have the alternate reality full amazing story of Harry as the chosen one already! So good!!

I so badly want a “what if the Dementer haven’t kissed Barty Crouch at the end of goblet of fire” you guys have said before that he’s such an underutilized villain, and I think it would be so cool to see how the rest of the story would’ve played out. Like they were going to send him to askaban however, we know that all the death eaters break out of askaban in a year anyways.

You should do a what if Merope Gaunt and Tom Riddle Sr were actually in love and no love potion was used. This is the what if that would probably make the most changes. There might even be no Voldemort!
Or maybe contray to popular believe, love potions don't cause children to be incapable of love. He was just born like that.
Great 'what if' as always. Just one little thing. The diary being brought in by Draco but somehow loosing it, to then end up with Harry is little unbelievable(if you think about Draco's personality. ) I think in this case his dropping the diary could be seen as a little revenge for the first flying lesson and then also the midnight duel.
I began crying after you killed of Harry, but also great Neville finds real courage but the consequences may be horrifying 😢 💔 Sirius heartbroken yet again loosing someone important, and what about Remus? And how is Neville really feeling? His best friend just died for him, still protecting him even in death like James and Lily do in Canon.
How will the rest of the schools reaction be? Are they still going to be talking badly about Harry while praising Neville behind his back? What about the Weasley's? Ron got petrified and while it was not Harry that attacked him, Ron still should have the memories of Harry controlling the Basilisk.

I like to think that this version of Harry is caused by the lovingness of Sirius and his shy, quieter, nature from the canon story was from the lack of any love from the dursleys.

Harry's murder was indeed unexpected and I am truly saddened by it, because Harry raised by Sirius was absolutely epic and I was really looking froward to seeing more of him.

I was fine with this alternate timeline thing, UNTIL YOU HAD HARRY DIE!!!!! What would be far better is that Snape had been watching Quirrel still and managed to follow the 3 of them into the Chamber. Also in the intervening 10 years he had experimented with Potions to try and cure Lily, in the process he had stumbled into a unique Potion that can if given within 24 hours can bring back those hit with Avada Kadavra. Perhaps requiring 1 of the ingredients being Phoenix Tears and another being Tears of Love (as well as other ingredients of course). So the sacrifice part still marks Neville, but Snape could still save Harry out of his love for Lily!

What If Marcus Flint (or any other 17 yo Slytherin) had been a Hogwarts Champion in the GOF?
What if Harry and him develop a similar Cedric-Harry relationship of mutual respect?
What would happen after Voldemort kills the Slytherin Champion? Would Draco still be as happy (at the beginning) to serve Voldy after he killed his Quidditch cap?
Yeah, no. Harry wouldn’t respect Flint in the slightest, and Flint’s character was your typical Slytherin, where as Cedric was not only kind, he wanted things to be fair, as in when he was willing to play the Quidditch match again after Harry fell off his broom thanks to the Dementors. Also, Flint wouldn’t be in the graveyard in the first place, as Harry would leave Flint to be taken by the obstacles. So the only long-term difference is that Cedric is alive, and maybe Harry would be harassed by the Slytherins more often than ever.

I loved this whole series! But I would love to see what would happen for the rest of Neville's time at Hogwarts.
I mean nothing would happen in Yr 2 or Yr 3 until the end of the year. Perhaps Lockhart is still hired to show Neville how horrible he is. And Neville could meet Lupin, who would've also undoubtedly have known Harry pre death. But I can't think of ways Voldemort could pull the strings apart from like, personally PolyJuicing into Lockhart or Lupin and fighting Dumbledore at the end of the Yr. In yr4 B. Crouch Jr. Could become DADA proffesor as a spy for Voldemort, Snape would inform Dumbledore BCJr can't be trusted and be keeping an eye on him during the Triwizard tournament. Only to have Crouch send Neville to the graveyard to fight against Voldemort and the death eaters but the the matching cores thing and Neville escaping and BCJr getting caught. So Fudge kinda has to admit Voldy being back but would probably still weasel his way into lying ab it. Next book would probs be most the same except Voldy can't lure Neville to DoM so the prophecy isn't destroyed and Malfoy isn't forced to kill Dumbledore. Half-blood prince is probs ab the same(I'm assuming after Harry's death Ron and Hermione become mates with Neville) except malfoy doesn't try to kill Dumbledore but he still curses himself with the Gaunt wrong and Snape has to kill him. Deathly Hallows would be incredibly different but I'm gonna let you try that one out for yourself 😉

These What If deep dives are amazing and I love them.
I have an issue with this story. I doubt Neville would have been that secluded. Dumbledore being the secret-keeper doesn't mean that he would be the only person who visits them. I'm sure his gran and a few friends would have been told by Dumbledore so they could visit. They can't give the secret away, but that doesn't mean Dumbledore couldn't tell them safely.
Perfect time to remind you guys of a 'What if' scenario inspired by this one: What if Voldemort knew the whole prophecy?
He should know now the prophecy literally means nothing unless he marks someone as his equal. In this version, where he decides Neville is the one, he still wants to actively hunt down and personally kill the Choose One, hence disappearing for a long time, but what if he couldn't just kill the Chosen One, he could prevent him?
Some thoughts I had that might work in this scenario: Crouch is in power, Scrimgour rapidly rising to be his second in command. This means government reprisals against Death Eaters are heavy-handed and often brutal, but also competent and effective. Fudge meanwhile would be waiting in the wings for a quieter time, understanding he isn't the right guy for the job at this point. However, he might handle Ministry PR, perhaps even suggesting loudly proclaiming arrests and, if the arrested people are innocent, freeing them quietly, to not take up prison capacity without taking away from the reassuring thought the government is on the case and working hard. (If Fudge is good at anything, it's PR.) Alastor Moody may be dead, given he had already been injured several times and presumably slowed somewhat. Though you can make an argument for his experience and skill seeing him through. However, Voldemort would have his own problems. Over a decade of war, the government, even in HP, would get its act together, countering the Death Eaters more and more effectively, probably openly allying with the Order of the Phoenix. The Ministry and the Order would be better able to recruit new soldiers than Voldemort. A war of attrition between the terrorist group and the government tends to favour the latter. However, Voldemort's personal prowess would be terrible and still gain him enough servants, willing and unwilling, to keep in the fight.
I really hope you continue this, and look forward to seeing what happens next. (if it does continue) If it doesn't though it was a great series, and can't wait to see what's next.

I have a question that I would like you to answer: In the first book, at the beginning, hagrid tells Dumbledore that he had used Sirius's motorcycle to move baby Harry and that he would give it back to Sirius. At that moment Dumbledore thought that Sirius had betrayed the Potter, so why didn't he tell Hagrid that Sirius was dangerous and that he did not have to go to Sirius location?
eh things were a little chaotic at that point they may not of realized that was how they died yet. Thats an in universe explanation the more likely thing is that not all the details were thought out yet so the secret keeper thing wasnt written yet

I am really enjoying this, although if Harry was raised by serious and his mum was alive, I think Harry would hold more anger towards Voldemort. He would have grown up to actually see the pain that Voldemort did to his family. Also Lupin definitely would of coparented Harry, at least for the first couple of years. Serious most likely would of tried to find Voldemort until there was no clues left. Lupin would of had to tell him to stop and if he didn’t stop looking for Voldemort, Harry will loose him too. Serious would stop, focus only on Harry trying to turn him in his parent, especially James. Every he did was just like James or just like Lilly. While Harry as the chosen one, appreciated this but this Harry would have grown up in his parents shadow (like Neville did). UnlikeNeville who became insecure, Harry would be growing resentment that would be focused on Voldemort. Harry would lack identity, growing up seeking to prove he is just Harry not his parents.
I also think Hermione would have still ended up friends with Harry as they both seek answers. Not sure about Ron being best friends with Harry, as Harry won’t need Ron’s guidance and friendship. I think they would be friends but not best friends. We all know Ron doesn’t stick around if he doesn’t feel needed.
We need the rest of the story.

I know this has probably been asked a thousand times but why didn’t the Potter’s just let Dumbledore be their secret keeper? I’d bet there’d be a line the length of Diagon Alley full of people who would literally kill for that kind of protection.
The fanon explanation is rhat james and lily simply trusted Sirius more. But in reality it probably has to do with the idea of putting a bigger target in dimbledores back when they couldn’t afford to lose him.

If Neville's parents are alive and well, why wouldn't they teach their son about the 4 houses of Hogwarts? Sure he has no social interactions but his parents would teach him about the Wizarding world. I also think he could have lived among muggles under an alias, so some social interaction.
I agree, Neville would not have been as ignorant of the Wizarding world as Harry was; certainly having been raised by his Auror parents for 11 years, and they having nothing better to do, would have both encouraged any magical ability and explained all about Hogwarts and what he could look forward to upon his 11th birthday🤓 I also think that having had a kinder upbringing than he did in the actual story, he might have been better adjusted to performing magic and therefore have a lot more self-confidence than the Neville who was raised by his grandmother and bullied by his relatives for not showing more natural magical abilities 🤔
@HopeUnquenchable that's basically all that I was getting at, it's the one thing that didn't make sense about this theory. J and Ben are assuming it's the exact same Neville we see throughout the series, but he's very unlikely to have any of the traits we've seen before. And most especially he shouldn't be ignorant of the Wizarding world like Harry was.
Just imagine Sirius getting a letter from Harry - I was almost expelled in the very first week but instead I am chosen for Seeker now 🤩🤩 Sirius would burst with happiness and go tell james' painting - I have done parenting best suited to a marauder mate !!

I really appreciate this hypothetical storyline. But I daubt that Harry would be able to understand or speak Parseltongue. His ability to understand it, came, as far as I know, from the part of Voldemort, someone from Slytherin's bloodline, inside him.
Now, where he was not marked by him, he never obtain a part of his soul, therefore he isn't able to speak or understand Parseltongue, is he?
Ginny doesn't speak Parseltongue, but she was able to open the Chamber when Tom controlled her.
It was from the diary, being possessed by Voldemort gives his powers to whoever gets mind controlled. That's how Ginny did it.

I disagree with some of this. Honestly i accept you coming up with a way for Neville to survive, because he would most likely die as a baby, cause you would think the protections on both of them would be the same as before, and if Bellatrix could find the longbottoms, so could voldemort. So that's reasonable. But you must be smoking something if you think sirius would allow Harry to go to hogwarts with a toad. Its much more likely that sirius get harry an exotic bird, like the one he sent a letter with while in hiding. But even if he didnt bring a bird/owl, i believe you guys had also theorized that crookshanks originally belonged to the potters, ao it would make much more sense if you had said harry brought crookshanks. I just cant agree with sirius allowing harry to bring a toad to hogwarts
Thank you for doing this. I know this is a hard What If to imagine, with information probably becoming more scant as you go deeper into the series. It makes me appreciate how, when we go through the what ifs in our own lives, we almost always prefer the way things ended up working out anyway. That's been true for me at least. The circumstances that took place ended up being the best possible option and the most instructive experience. This gives me some peace when I feel anxious about the future. I really believe in the saying, "It's not over until everything is okay."
