My computer won't allow me to play the sims 2. When I tell you my heart broke...
All the creators I used to love, the CC that was breathtaking in game, the awesome quirky features of the game's base... gone. It's like a loved one has died, for me.

@@e.l.lucychiron Same for me. The game launches all right, but there is all kinds of graphical glitches and the map turns pink and all. It's very saddening cause The Sims 2 was such a good game. I still keep my CD roms though just in case. I never will sell my games. They become difficult to find.

As someone who absolutely LOVED the sims 3 and got every expansion pack for it, ts4, felt like slap in the face when it came out.. And honestly, it still does.

@@Lucky_Gurl-Luna Are you asking why I think this is a slap in the face? I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly. If that's what you want to know, here's my opinion on this:
So, first of all, I just want to say I never wanted ts4, I probably should mention that. I thought ts3 was good enough for me, and I wanted them to just continue development.. But I recognised that other people really wanted a new game, and ts3 wasn't going to be taken away from me anyway, so it was fine. I was just a bit salty that there won't be anymore content for it.
The game came out, and out of curiosity, I watched a gameplay made by someone. (I also played it once from my friend's pc for maybe an hour but I found it being very boring) The AMOUNT of features missing or being just half of that from previous games was just baffling. Only 3 traits, no toddlers, teenagers looking like adults, no open world, no cars, ugly and dull map view, tiny worlds, handful of lots, loading screen constantly, no pools, no ghosts. The emotions changing every few seconds, and traits not doing anything with the gameplay. Instead of a brand new game, expanding onto the previous ones, it recessed HEAVILY, lacking even more than what ts2 had.
Having that thing replacing ts3 for me was a slap in the face. I felt insulted, that the game I loved was being left behind for this.. thing.
Now, after initial release being 9 years ago, there's so many issues with this game. I find whatever EA is doing by now, is absolutely disrespectful and shameful, not only for the fans of the franchise, but just their player base as a whole. Controversy after controversy, throwing endless new packs at us to shut us up that have barely any substantial new features that has only a bare minimum of what other games had, upselling it for way overpriced numbers, not giving a damn about the quality of their products and realising faulty products or ones that just straight up don't work one bit. Releasing stuff that don't match whatever we were shown in the trailer, so false advertisement. I'm pretty sure you could possibly sue them for these two things. We already know the game from the beginning had a busted coding, because optimisation of the game is worse than ts3 at this point (in my opinion at least). Glitches, bugs and errors are a cherry on top... Or multiple over entire cake.
Actually, this isn't just a slap in the face anymore. It's like being raped in behind without vaseline, while being robbed simultaneously from our wallets.
It turned into a rant at this point, but, this it my take on the topic.

@@ple8379 Thanks for the breakdown. Also I agree with you on a lot of what you said I have the sims 3 on a old computer a friend gave to me and I loved that game bc I got to own properties. Also ur right about the open worlds. Also the toddlers and babies were more interactive in the sims 3 as far as needing a high chair to feed them . Also I noticed in the sims 4 that if u try to upgrade repairs you need parts ! In the sims 3 you didn’t need all of that . Now I like the graphics in sims 4 but I would admit it’s boring, I thought it was only bc I had the base game of the sims 4. But you’re like the 10th person I’ve heard say the sims 3 is better than sims 4 . Plus no pool!! That’s crazy bc I love my sims having a pool to swim in . Plus these sims 4 don’t listen to commands. In the sims 3 the teens automatically did their homework now in sims 4 you have to make them do it ! So yes 👍 you have a right to be upset ! They should’ve built on the sims 3 and improved / added the great features we actually do like on the sims 4.

@@Lucky_Gurl-Luna Yeah, some of ts4 are actually really nice and I honestly wish we had some of them in previous games. Say the infamous weddings for instance. It's a really good idea on paper, but had it been made correctly, I think it would be a success. While I still think it would be a bit overdone with so many different events, but it still was a nice idea. It would be great to have something like that in the sims 3 - but, you know, working. Possibility of planning different holidays and events is great. I can't really think of many instances right now, but there were moments where I thought "oh, this thing is great! I wish I had it!", it's happening once in a while, while for the most part it's either almost a replica of an old asset from a small part of an expansion of older games, or just watered down five times beforehand :/.

As someone who's been playing The Sims since 2000 and has played all four games for thousands of hours, I can say The Sims 3 is hands down the best one. The Sims 2 is pretty good too, but lacks the open world and story progression to make it a truly immersive experience. Personalities in The Sims 3 are by far the most complex in the series. The Sims 4 has a good CAS and Build Mode but gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. Personalities and AI are a broken mess.

Wow that is some serious play-time there! While I can’t really comment on the sims 2 as I’ve never played it, I agree with you on how in-depth the sims 3 personalities are: first I love how we have 5 slots for them, and second there are just so many more to choose from in the sims 3 which allows you to have a mix of skill based traits and personality focused ones too. I find in the sims 4 I almost always pick skill based traits rather than personality ones... meaning my sims almost always seem pretty similar to one another

    • @littlestbroccoli
      @littlestbroccoli 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

I think consequences also come into play when considering personalities. In both Sims 2 and Sims 4 the variety of personalities is limited, but while in Sims 2 this felt realistic and I can play (and have played) new Sims for countless hours despite there being only a few personality styles, in the Sims 4 I'm bored already just looking at the personally chooser. I wonder if the tangible effects of the personality aspects in Sims 2 are more pronounced, so you get people who actually do really poorly socially if you give them shy traits or whatever, vs. feeling like you can fudge almost anything in 4 and it won't really matter what you choose. Sims 3 seems to have done a much better job with focused goals, too.

This is the absolute best comment to this video - hands down (and I read them all). If you think the look of a shrub matters one bit, and if you can't grasp the importance of what an open world is (have you played any other video game ever?) then - well then I can't help you. This is not even a debatable topic. Sims 2 vs Sims 3 is a debatable topic. Chocolate vs Vanilla may be debatable. But if you have to even wonder about Sims 4 then you are missing the point of video games in general.

TS3 is the closest to perfection we have ever come in a Sims game. Especially considering all the problems you named with the game are solved with the right mods. 4 is lost in that regard. The limitations it has will always be there, making me not play it a lot. Great video by the way :)

    • @taurasg

Totally agree! All the problems you would have with The Sims 3 are easily fixable with mods even getting the ability to play few households in one save. Or even performance but most of the modern hardware is capable of running TS3 perfectly just the way is coded makes it worse with each better computer and it's all because EA is too lazy to go back and optimize the game... :(

This is a good comparison video! I greatly prefer Sims 3 over 4, but then again I'm not much of a builder, which is definitely greatly improved in 4. The Sims in 4 are also, er, prettier, than they are in 3, but that's nothing some CC and default replacements can't fix. My first ever main title Sims game (not counting mobile games) was Sims 4, and I loved it for a good while, until I got bored with it and decided to buy 3 just last year. Now it's my go-to, and 4 just seems shallow in comparison.
Both 3 and 4 *ran* on my old shitty laptop, but I honestly felt more annoyed with 4 on that one than 3. Loading screens for both games took a good while, so that meant in Sims 3 I'd only have to sit through one or two, but in 4 I'd be waiting for a good minute or more to go *anywhere.* Also simulation lag in Sims 4 was much, much worse. I haven't played it (or even installed it) on my current laptop yet, so I don't know if it's going to be any better.
That being said, 3 runs like a dream if you have a good amount of RAM and an SSD. Several-minute-long loading screens turned to maybe 30 seconds at most. But also watch out for the FPS if you play 3 on a more powerful machine-- it would jack the FPS up into the 500s or so when I first installed it and no in-game options could fix it, I had to use a third-party software. I don't think 4 would have this problem since it's made for modern machines, 3 just has no idea what to do with all this extra power modern computers have and decides to go ham with it all and melt your goddamn computer if you let it. That's one thing 4 has over 3, I'll admit.
Also the clothes. TS3 clothes are ugly as sin, not gonna lie. It's hard for me to find good CC that I like too because most of the CC I find for 3 is just. Hollister catalogue clothes made only for female Sims. Meanwhile I've found some absolutely stellar CC for 4. CC hair for 3 is pretty solid, though.
Sorry for the rant. Every time I try to shorten this comment I keep adding more. I just have a lot of Thoughts about these games in particular.

    • @YasminsCorner
      @YasminsCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Hahaha no worries for the long comment at all!! I am the exact same, which I why I made a 44 minute video on the topic lol! There really is just so much to say for this topic, and every time someone comments it just reminds me of more opinions I have that I didn't mention! Omg don't even get me started on simulation lag in 4... going back to the sims 3 I barely experienced any of it. Oh no way! Soon I am going to be upgrading to a much more powerful gaming PC so I'll definitely look into that third party software for helping sims 3 to run better! Can I ask what the software you use is called?
Also, I know what you mean about CC: in the sims 3 I struggle to find CC which doesn't look stupidly out of place...but to give it some credit, maxis match CC creators in the sims 4 are so stupidly talented

@@YasminsCorner Sims 4 modders and CC creators are doing God's work honestly, I don't think I could ever play vanilla Sims 4 and have a good time ever again.
Also it's called RivaTuner Monitor, or something along those lines, I'll double check when I get home. it has a few other settings but I only use it for the FPS cap.

I own everything sims 4 and of the sims 3 all expansions and a few store bought things. Sims 3 tops it for me. I do have a beast laptop and also use nraas mods and cc hair. I only play in big custom worlds like Alpine County or St Claire. I love the sims 3 so much better. I almost never get bored and with the sims 4 I'm so bored eventhough I own everything. Sims 3 feels so much more realistic, you can use the whole world. And eventhough it's old, it still looks more realistic and not so cartoonish like the sims 4. However, you do need a very good laptop to run everything and you also need to tweak a few things and experiment to make it run well.
I love homeless challenges and playing one right now with a teenager in St. Claire, so fun! You can make it as realistic as you want. Love it.

I totally agree - with dlc for the sims 4 I’ll play it for a few hours, get bored and most likely never play it again. What I love about dlc from the sims 3 for the most part is how seamlessly content from different dlc packs blend together. I think I mentioned it in this video, but I love the fact that half the time I loose track of what content comes from which pack in the sims 3. I also love how I still actually discover new things in sims 3 packs which I have had for years. For me that game is so much more worth investing in than the sims 4. Oh no way! I’ve never played in either of those worlds, I’ll definitely give them a look! I love the world of Anne Arbour made by My Sims Realty 🥰 I agree with you on the visual side of things too- in the sims 3 alpha hair is my favourite type of CC, but it looks AWFUL in sims 4 😂😭 it will be super interesting to see the art style which is picked for the sims 5

My personal favourite is the park with umbrella tables with a single chair instead of four chairs, WTF! I could have described several hundred of these moments. This is such a well done video and deserves way more views! I agree with so many of your points. I was SO excited for the sims 4 when it first came out, and played it for hours on end just building, exploring the gallery, creating Sims.. that being said, I hardly spent anytime actually *playing* the game. IMO, the only thing the Sims 4 does well is the graphics, CAS & the building system. The gameplay is so surface level and lackluster. The lack of lore makes the game feel more like a dollhouse.. I don’t care about any of the townies (they’re so ugly like you said lol) and I hardly leave my home. The lack of depth takes me out of the game constantly, and the emotion system is useless. I don’t even play this game anymore. I’ve gone back to playing the Sims 2 & 3, and games like ACNH and Stardew Valley!

Last night I compulsively bought the sims 3 expansion packs I used to play years ago and wondered if that was a bad idea, if I should’ve just bought TS4 expansions instead… after watching this video and reading the comments, I’m happy I did now! While I think there is some amazing aesthetics available in the sims 4, I think it doesn’t really make up for the shallowness of it all. Kind of reminds me of animal crossing new horizons vs. wild world. Game developers are giving us gen Z’ers what we want which is amazing customisation and building, but story, lore and character interaction falls flat!! Great video 👍🏼

Aw thanks so much, I'm glad you found it useful! I agree, the open world of the sims 3 is amazing. I think the sims 4 team said they did away with the open worlds because it impacted performance on lower-end machines, but I think now (compared to when sims 4 originally came out), better powered machines are somewhat more accessible, so its definitely a frustrating argument. Here's hoping they will change this in sims 5!

Thought it was brief, you somehow made an amazing point and it was exactly my own issue. TS4 Pets offered cats and dogs, and although it said there would be foxes and raccoons, they were not separate species. They were the same as cats and dogs, they were just categorized as different breeds. TS3 Pets involved horses, unicorns, cats, dogs, reptiles, rodents, and wildlife that (if you tried hard enough) you could adopt into your own home. You didn’t have to pay extra just to have small pets in your game.

I've been a fan of the Sims series since the original Sims 1 and its been a lot of fun seeing the sims franchise grow up and improve over the years!
But I've never been able to get really into Sims 4 like I have the previous games. I play it for about 20 minutes every few months, then turn off the game. And I think you do a fantastic job breaking down why that might be! This Sims 4 game play seems hollow to me and I really hate how blatantly obvious Sims 4 expansion/stuff/kit packs seem like a way for EA corporate higher ups to make as much money as they possibly can. Of course, sims 3 and the other previous game's goals were to make money too, but at least they were less obvious about it.
I appreciate the direction Sims 4 went in. But Sims 3 is my go-to sims game and that hasn't changed for the past 12 years lol

I absolutely don't understand why with TS4 they went back to TS1 with neighbourhoods ... saying that TS3 was too difficult for most hardware to handle. I mean, yeah, but then maybe only go back to TS2 and maybe polish that?
Imagine having the same neighbourhood areas as TS4 has, but you could roam freely like TS3 in those?
That would have been the right step forward, being able to visit you neighbour or the community lot without a loading screen, but whenever visiting another neighbourhood area you would get a short loading screen. That would have been fine and still managable for any hardware at that time.
EA just became way too greedy and used the "poor hardware justification" as an excuse to be lazy. :T

Sims 3 is the better game, the trait system in Sims 3 is vastly superior. Sims 4 stupidly limited traits impact the game at large because every sim feels exactly the same, and the AI in sims 4 sucks, you can't even leave a family on their own for a bit because it becomes chaos,, the dolls start crumbling if you're not actively playing them. In Sims 3 the AI was better, you could leave the sims in auto-pilot and they would maintain themselves just fine like a normal person.
There's no point discussing this further, Sims 3 is the proper simulator game while Sims 4 is more like playing with a pretty but shallow doll house. Literally all that is decent in sims 4 is build mode and CAS and that's it, picking the game over these two things means sacrificing everything else for little pay off.
EA is garbage. They did the exact same thing with Simcity 2013. They too a iconic game and deprived it of all content it previously had and gave it a cartoonish graphics look that is appealing to mainstream like candy so that we ignore everything else. Sims 4 base game has practically no content, you'll really need DLC to enjoy the game, the full game costs around 800€. Sims 3 also had ludicrous amounts of DLC, the difference is there was actually enough content in each to justify it better, and Sims 4 dlcs just like the base game lack content.

Hey, nice review! The only thing where Sims 3 doesn't shine are lags (even with Nraas tweaks). And I've seen the same lags I have in your video. TS3 worked better on my old laptop than on my actual PC. But I keep (crying) playing TS3. Because of it's character depth, story progression and freedom it offers. I played all and every of the Sims titles (even Medieval) and as soon as I opened the Sims 4's biggest town map (don't remember the name) to settle a family and realized that it has only about 20% of lots available in Roaring Heights of Sims 3 it just blew my mind. I come back to my laggy huge openworld where my kleptomaniac sim returning home from his every-day's criminal duties at night can enter some toxic neighbor's family basement to discover a secret collection of garden gnomes and steal a pile of hay (yep, a huge stock of hay in the basement, why not?). It sums up pretty much everything. Sims 3 plays like an RPG. You can go everywhere, you can do anything, you have a class(traits), quests and skills to grind. Friends, foes, castles, guilds, gangs, you choose your time sink... And with some Story progression expansion mods it becomes even more insane. Sims 3 is very close to virtual society simulacrum. Bloody lags...

There's a mod called the Smooth Patch, by LazyDuchess, that can help with the lag to some extent. There are also tutorials out there on how to limit the max fps, so they don't randomly go crazy high. Logging out of the online features also helps in general, and de-activating the interactive loading screens make them a bit faster. There's no miracle cure, but these things have made the game much nicer to play for me !

    • @needlesandsonics5819
      @needlesandsonics5819 ปีที่แล้ว +1

A good tutorial is from acottonsock iirc it’s the ultimate sims 3 fix and how to get it to run. Well done for people not technically inclined.
Basically, your graphics card is not recognized if you have a newer card. You just have to get it to be recognized, limit your fps to the refresh rate of your monitor/screen, and get it to use more ram. It’s all in the tutorial on her site. I run Sims 3 on an rtx 2070 card with no problems after getting the game to recognize it.
Obviously older games have technical limitations but fortunately Sims3 can still be fixed to run well.

I still prefer cas and build mode of the sims 3 rather then the sims 4. The sims 4 gameplay is really bad. My sim broke up with her boyfriend and was in negative with them but he still called her asking question and wanting to hang out? In the sims 3 if a sim was angry it was angry and for a while and no thing could change it but in the sims 4 a random mood like anything could make a mad sim happy again in seconds

For me when it comes to the most worthwhile content, features, creativity, replay value, well planned, innovative, revolutionary, experience, ambitious, and entertaining overall? That would be The Sims 3, its due to how it had almost all these things in it that made it the best successor to Sims 2. But we must never forget Sims 3's flaws such as lag and long loading time issues which is not friendly to average or poor performing devices which can really bog the players' experience down in bad ways. I may not have played this game for things I lacked which is cash to get it, storage space, and the specs for my current devices to get all Sims 3 official and fan community made content, but I do know that the Sims 3 base game alone got some of all the basic, essential, and fun features and items in it which I could have fun with alone at least. When I got all the requisites I need to finally get and play this amazing game despite the main problems that I mentioned and what everybody else in the Sims fan community know, I will nonetheless play this game with great joy.
About the Sims 4, I do like the amazing sim-body sculpting, the art style, multitasking, aestthetic, and better house editng in build mode but it has way too much limits especially in the almost infinite color making palette side in its Create-A-Sim which failed to succeed what Sims 3's color wheel and create-a-style had done which same goes for build and buy mode, shallow and too easily manipulative emotions system, and less personality traits slots with less impactful effects especially when it comes to the Sims 4 base game which I detest about. And with the various official Sims 4 downloadable content as of now? It would probably take up way much more storage memory if any person wants to download and use them all which may not be storage friendly for people with low memory capacity gadgets and consoles to play them in Sims 4, especially when its base game alone takes up 15 - 16 Gigabytes of storage memory on your device compared to the Sims 3's base game on its own takes up 6 Gigabyte-storage-space consumption.

I really like how calm and logical this video was, even if I disagre with bits of it in little ways as a rotational style family player. I think the smartest thing you said tho was at the top of the video, you didn't buy and don't own every pack. I think the cost of packs debate is getting a little stale since as the game gets older you litterally have less and less 'core feature' packs coming out and more 'bits and bobbles' packs coming out. And that was EVERY Sims game tbh. Early packs are often like that vs. Later one. Early Sims 1 packs like hot date added a reason for sims to go out and leave their lots and later ones like Makin' Magic were just fun little Zany add ons that felt less critical if you didn't have it.
I jump families every play session and sometimes in the middle of sessions and Sims 3 is soooo hard to do this with as it will tell you every single time you are losing lifetime wishes if you swap. The open world design assumes you just wanna play one family through said open world for an extended amount of time, that's not how I play under any circumstances. The problem with TS4 is it gives the neighborhood the illussion of open accessibility while being not-accessible. In TS4 I can walk over to my neighbor's house, right up to their door, but if I want to knock and visit it requires a loading screen. Sims 2 was lot based as well but because you litterally couldn't access anything beyond the edge of the lot, it always felt fairly normal to call a cab and meet people downtown or at community lots. You could only in play the family hosting visitors in Sims 2, you couldn't play as a visitor to someone's house...which I hated in Sims 2 but it also didn't portray the illusion of access to neighborhood homes Sims 4 gives you, then take it away with a loading screen. Which still makes me like TS2 more than TS4. Loading screens aren't bad, they were just stupidly implimented in Sims 4. For travel across town I prefer loading screens. The TS3 sims are dangerous drivers and make crazy uturns and zip around far too fast. All that pulls me out more than a loading screen. Have you seen the BUS uturn. Not to mention, the teleporting into the bloody cars!! Sims 2 actually had them opening doors and sitting in the seat. And closing the door.
I also think more traits don't equal better Sims by default. As seen with TS4, a bunch of traits that do nothing litterally don't matter. I'd rather TS4 have less traits and more impact and I actually do think this has improved. It really is about how the traits affects gameplay. And I thought TS2 actually did amazingly a lot with a little. TS2 is also my true starter game. I played Sims 1 at release but not seriously and quit playing for several years for no good reason ..life, interest in other things. Never had all the packs. TS2 was where I had my first in deep gameplay and devloped my rotational style. It made me fairly uninterested in Sime 3 at launch because it didn't fit my playstyle. When it comes to playing some rotation style with a few folks progressing in the background TS4 is actually better at this and more relaxing for me to play when I am not playing TS2. And I play TS2 the majority of the time.
Since my play style was born of TS2 tbh, I wonder if Sims 4 players for whom it was their first game will actually love things about that structure in the years to come. I think TS4 has more TS3 players who got use to how TS3 operates impacting it but when we get to the point of new games existing, I wonder what people will remeber being fond of in TS4. I personally still love TS2 over them all afterall.

    22:40 - About aspirations
The Sims 4 ones are kinda like tutorials, and they don't add personality to your sim, because every single sim has to do the same steps, making it feel like a checklist and not a personality thing.
In 4 you can also swap them, making it feel less like a personality system. At the same time, it is more realistic that people change aspirations or have more than one. A perfect scenario would be a mix of 3 and 4, where you can have more than one, and even some temporary aspirations maybe. But the way it is in 4, it barely feels like a personality mechanic.
    25:00 - Story Progression
I would say that the open world of 3 helps with the story progression a lot, since everyone is evolving around you. And NRAAS mod in Sims 3 just destroys Sims 4 with mods, since the depth is higher and it is open world.
    26:00 - Relationships
I love how 4 separates romance with friendship. However, what I like about 3 is that just like 4, you unlock new interactions as you improve the relationship and improve your skills and based on traits. However in 3 you need to get to specific moods to unlock more. So in 4, you just have so much relationship that you can ask to get married, however in 3, you need to keep doing romantic interactions, even with a maxed out relationship, to unlock the option to get married, making it more challenging to play.
    26:00 - Lots popularity
I like how it is in 4, but I also like 3. 4 is like a big world you cant see, with people around doing their thing. But in 3, it feels like a community. So in 3, you get more attached to townies because they really live around you, while in 4 it feels like you are in a big city and people around you mean nothing.
    40:00 - Mods
For sims 4, try Meaningful Stories, it makes emotions much better and harder to control.

I got bored playing TS4 though it used to be fun and now I stopped playing it though because I lost fun to it. Its a good game but everything is missing that were from previous sims games. I'm not trying to be nagative about TS4 but I just think its just not enough gameplay and features.
TS4 is a different game from the gooden age of The sims becuase just how it looks and it feels like a entire different game like I miss everything from The sims. At least they have very good build buy but Its just not enough for me to go back and play TS4. TS2 and TS3 I love and they will be my favorites of all time. They had very good personalites like every sim has its own personality and their own thing whatsoever. Thats why I love these two games so much.

Actually you CAN predetermine what a preggo sim will wear in TS3 (without mods) , if you have a sim you want to get pregnant, simply plan their outfit. make sure you select one of the maternity outfits in CAS, (outfits that sims can wear while pregnant, game guides all over google with info on which outfits you can use/pics), once youve selected outfits for your pregnant sim to wear (doesnt need to be every single outfit just make sure you have one pregnancy outfit for each category if you want choices) . Now, once your sim gets pregnant she will change into the outfit you selected for her, and all other categories (i.e. swim, formal,) will also be what you selected if they are accesible for a pregnant sim.

Also, I have played all the Sims games. I played Sims base game a lil, but it got boring and also difficult sometimes. Sims 2 - loved the cut scenes, created neighborhoods, and how real the Sims felt and acted - had the most expansions for 2; base game, university, late night, seasons, and pets. Sims 3 - was my big one and up until three years ago, I only bought the Sims 3 Limited Edition and World Adventures and I was content. I loved the Sims 3 !! My friend owns all Sims 3 expansions and let me use his to install them on my computer and I got to experience other EPs. It was amazing. I liked that the Sims were realistic looking. My longest family generation was Sims 3 where I played 3 generations in !!! Which isn't impressive in grand scheme, but that family had 10 children. The computer died so I lost all progress. But currently trying to do that again !! The personality and traits in 3 are also distinctive and matter a lot in game. Sims 4 - looks nice. I like the functionality of CAS and Build/Buy. I have City Living, Parenthood, and Seasons. I am glad I haven't poured more money into Sims 4 because it lacks in gameplay. I play families and am not much of a builder. Although I do like making Sims after tv shows and movies, I can do that in 3 with the customization that it has.

The sauna and massage table may have been left out of the EPs in TS3, but included in the store world of Sunlit Tides so they're not new (not sure about TS2 so I can't say). They're just recycled, to put it simply. Same situation of including them in the Store releases happens with the chocolate fountain; the fountain of youth; the wishing well; the rock climbing wall; the farm/gardening sets including tractor, mill, greenhouse, chicken and cows; functional bakery and functional bistro; pizza oven; archery range & violin skill; the boardwalk set; the carousel set; the Prism Art Studio (which includes massive glass-making and jewelry-making skills for the sims); the ballet studio; the surfing board and so many more (all functional and providing new gameplay, btw). In TS4 they mostly just improved on the ones they chose to recycle. I personally think these too should be included in these comparisons videos as long as people like to include Kits and Stuff Packs as comparable content for TS4. Anyway, great video! Loved it and did not feel the need to skip at all. You're really engaging and make good points :D

Ah yes, after making this video and browsing the sims 3 store I did see that the message table, sauna and a lot looking like a spa was on there. Totally get where you are coming from with the content being recycled, and maybe one day I’ll splurge on a bunch of sims 3 store content and do a comparison with the like pieces in the sims 4. I just wish that some of the more unique sims 3 store items would return, like the farm animals, the artisan skill from the prism art studio and even the carnival items. Glad you enjoyed the video 🥰❤️

@@YasminsCorner TS3 has so much extra content in the store and that makes it easy to miss. I always liked functional stuff so I've been hunting everything in there :))))) And yes, I also enjoy the amount of gardening/farming stuff sims can do in TS3. It's so cute & fun watching them ride the tractor in the field, fighting with the evil chicken, tipping the cow, playing tic-tac-hoof with the cow and even being outsmarted (lol), dancing with the sunflower, etc. One of my favorite items is the carousel, I place it in every world. They seem to like it too since once they arrive on the lot they make a beeline for it. TS4 will probably win the comparison you mentioned since what EA chose to bring back has been improved on. But that's fine, it should win in some categories too :P (Not trying to be mean, I'm actually a little envious on the wellness skill. I'd love for my sims in TS3 to have the option to do yoga). Phew, done with this long reply :D

I think a problem with the sims 4 is that they give us too much choice in some respects 😂 if you are into mods and want a bit more difficulty in the game, I know Carl’s Sim Guides just put out a mod which makes elements of the game more challenging, ie earning less money, relationships being harder to build etc. I haven’t tried it myself but if you want a more challenging time playing the game you could check that out!

They just added llama and Cow that made me a little bit disappointed ☹️, I don’t know why don’t they add more animals :”(.

Sims 3, to me, was the best. I still play even now. On my current hardware (5950x, 3090 RTX, 128gb DDR4 ram, 980 evo m.2 SSD) I don't even notice any lag when I'm building or buying. The initial load up doesn't even seem that long as it used to when I was using a HDD.
I really wasn't a fan of the Sims 4. I found the loading between lots to be a step backwards, but if I'm being honest, I've never played it past the base game. Maybe the game is more robust now.
For me, the mods in Sims 3 were awesome. Especially the NRAAS mods, I'm not really sure what the scene looks like in Sims 4. Maybe I'll check it out eventually.

sims 3 was something i played a lot longer in one "sitting" i guess
like you mentioned, with the possibility to own properties, i had a lot more to do
i remember being an astronaut, only going to work on mondays lol, grinding that to way too much money a day and trying to own every property. If Im not mistaken you could also build on those properties. So I was buying a park or smth and then madenit my own. And making tons of money in the process. Idk, really liked that haha, missing smth like that right now
all my sims kinda do the same job, the skills build so fast that you're lvl 10 cooking in a few days if you just cook your own food, etc.
and its weird, cause i really think sims 4 is a great game, love the look, the mechanics, etc. I personally dont even really care that much about the open world vs closed world of sims 4, so that doesnt bother me. It just feels like there are tons of things to do, but theres no point in doing them

    • @YasminsCorner
      @YasminsCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I know exactly what you mean!! Yes that was a super fun mechanic with the real estate system that I forgot to mention! I think that just helped even more to make it feel like your sims were making an impact on the world (for example, by renovating a park), than you as the player making the changes in a god-like fashion lol.
I get what you are saying about sims 4 too - that's another reason why I don't get much further than one generation in any family: like with a rags to riches lets play, the challenge is completed by the end of a generation (or even before my original sim hits elderhood) - they have a fat mansion, there is nothing left to do!

One thing I really disliked about The Sims 4 was their removal of the iconic burglar sim.
He was one of the most recognisable characters in the franchise, having been there since the first Sims game and was even featured prominently on the box art.
I really enjoyed the challenge and depth he brought to the gameplay, both of which are sorely lacking in The Sims 4. The Sims is supposed to be a life simulator, not a perfect life fantasy fulfillment. In real life, bad things like being burgled happen all the time and so should be represented, imo.
I would understand and even praise EA if they added an option to turn him on or off in the settings but not including him at all is an awful choice.
Thankfully, there are mods which add burglaries and other negative random events but modding shouldn't have been necessary for such an integral component of the franchise.

Like many others here, I've also played this game since I was a child and since the first Sims game came out. In The Sims 4, they did a brand change thing that was basically a reset. I'm fairly certain this change of brand will reflect even in future games. One of the Simgurus made it clear that they want to keep the game light-hearted. Because of that, I don't think TS4 should be comparable to the previous games, because it really is a reboot. While they kept characters from the old games, none of them resemble what they were actually like in previous games, especially if they had a controversial backstory [e.g. Bella Goth's disappearance, the depressed clown, starving families]. They have all become the cute version. I haven't completely delved into it, but I hope a simmer would. I'm looking at The Sims 4 like it's the start of a new era of the game, rather than a follow-up to the previous versions, which makes me very excited for the next games. I personally also had a hard time playing TS4 until this summer's packs came out [CO, DH, CotL]. They also fixed a lot of the base game features recently, so it is a LOT better than it was in early 2021. Now, I find myself playing for almost every free time I can get [and I have a lot of other game options]. I'm still very attached to the characters and lore of TS to TS3. I don't think lore is something they'll build upon, which is understandable. But I hope they continue to fix gameplay in The Sims 4 before churning out the fifth.

    • @CDavis-jt5fh
      @CDavis-jt5fh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I missed hearing the EA dev (Simgurus) stating this but it makes complete sense and explains a lot. Sims 4 was a massively radical change in tone and everything else - it just wasn't like any other SIms game that came before. Sims 3 was almost an adult game, but then SIms 4 was like a Disney cartoon. Even the look of the people went from almost photo-realistic (if you have the mods and textures and a good PC) to very unrealistic cartoon looking characters that lacked depth.

    • @torigoth7487
      @torigoth7487 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@CDavis-jt5fh Yep, they are updating lore now apparently and they might add more danger as per simmer's request. But I still don't think they're adding really depressing stuff like before or like dramatic cutscenes. EA isn't fully to blame either because the rating system in games became more strict in general. They had to go cutesy for that Teen rating.

I've been thinking of grabbing the sims 3 collection at the current steam sale at around 72usd (to play alongside sims 4). One curiosity I have is have if you see this, is have you played other sandbox games that focus on characters and there stories like Crusader Kings? I've felt there should be an overlap of players there, but it doesn't seem to be very common (maybe a complexity issue with the grand strategy genre).

@@YasminsCorner I will be picking up Sims 3 collection (and some sims 4 stuff) at the sale. The reason I bring up crusader kings in particular is whilst it visually is very different, it is largely you as a ruler of a county/kingdom etc (sounds different so far), but it follows your life then your childs life etc making decisions like who to marry, when to hold feasts, to go on a pilgrimage etc, may only guess is there is a much more random, uncontrolled aspect to it that may be hard to get into, whereas Sims (especially 4) is extremely controllable. It just always has struck me as odd how there isn't more of a crossover in the fanbases as many of the key aspects are whilst at a distance different, when you start digging down to the core appeal they hit many of the same notes. : )

This was very helpful. It looks like Sims 4 is way more shallow and, in my opinion, that makes it inferior.

Hi. I liked the video! Could I please ask some questions? :)
Can you recommend some good expansion packs? I'm a player of 3 and although I think it's my favourite, I'm considering moving over to 4 for performance reasons. I really don't fancy buying a million different expansions again though, so could you recommend three or four? My favourites from 2 were Pets, Open For Business, and Bon Voyage; and my favourites from 3 are Pets, World Adventures, Ambitions, and Seasons.
    Cheers. :)

      Hi there!
I totally get why you’d need to move over to 4 for performance reasons - as great as the old games are they don’t run the best!
Okay my top picks for sims 4 are:
Seasons: I couldn’t imagine playing sims 4 without it!
Get together: mainly for the world of Windenburg; I think it’s the best world they’ve made for sims 4 so far (and it’s the biggest!)
Get to work: while it’s a bit rough around the edges it adds some gameplay which is somewhat similar to Ambitions and maybe open for business
University: I love the CAS and build objects plus the gameplay is very fun!
As for game packs: if you like the vacation type packs perhaps try jungle adventure but I’ve never played it myself! My favourite game packs have to be parenthood and spa day!
      Hope this helped!
