I really liked the "dreary" atmosphere of the Sims 3. It was nice to see a lot of places look kind of grungy, like a swamp world that had sunken buildings and vehicles, old, rusty, abandoned trains, condemned buildings, etc...
Gosh, your comment is spot on! I never thought this, but Sims 3 actually had a way somber (and sober) vibe that made things way more realistic. Like you said: the rust, the grittyness, the abandoned stuff, the mist... Plus the sound effects and everything... It was so real it was surreal at times, and Sims 4 will never replicate this feeling. Sims 4 is ok, Sims 1 is kinda dated, Sims 2 is good... But Sims 3 will always be THE BEST, and to me it is timeless.
the sims 4 gameplay has never been fun enough to get me hooked. i always bet bored within like 20 minutes, but the sims 3 gameplay is so good. if i could combine sims 3 game play, sim personally & open world with sims 4 build/buy & art style, it’d be the PERFECT game

I'm so late but this is so true. I prefer the Sims 3, because it's way more gameplay-driven. Like, in the _Sims 3: Pets,_ we got cats, dogs, critters (squirrels and shit), and horses. You can race with the horses and even find UNICORNS. Like, that's awesome. What do we get in the Sims 4? Cats and dogs. And that's it. (Unless you wanna blow even more money to get some more items and a hamster or something.) Anyways, my point is that I agree with you 100%. I can't play a household for more than an hour at most before I get bored and just go back into CAS.

@@shanenanigans27 Yeah but the moodlets are really well done and give you an overview of a spectrum of a sim's feelings. I almost never look at moodlets in TS4. They're put too much in the corner and rather useless. Same with wants. Wants are an integral gamepaly feature in TS3, well-developed and meaningful. "Whims" in TS4 are useless. Not to mention that they stopped adding them after one of the expansion packs, so they're not really a thing anymore. The much advertised "emotion system" in TS4 is fundamentally flawed. Your sim can experience something really bad, but they'll still be happy and so on. That's what I like about TS3, it doesn't tell you an "emotion", it gives you an overview of the moodlets, all the things that the Sim feels at the moment, and focuses on them, your sim doesn't need any label for their emotional state, because it's too complicated. Besides, because of the emotion system, there's too many gameplay features that reward you in "changing the current emotion", which is just dull and useless.
I ALWAYS used the asphalt texture on my sims' dresses and changed them to be, like, hot pink or golden or something. It looked like sequins or glitter dresses!
I’m not gonna lie… I’ve been going back to the sims 3 more.. the whole open world was amazing and I miss it and it was the first sims game I ever played
The open world did have some issues with the scripting (which causes a lot of lag), but there's a mod that fixes it. With that fix, the game becomes absolutely amazing. The gameplay is so great.. like the one world you can literally have houseboats and drive them around the open world. Something I miss about the open world too is the fact you didnt' just keep hopping worlds like you do on Sims 4.. On Sims 4 you live in like Willow Creek and just keep popping over to New Crest, Oasis Springs, etc as it suits you.. on Sims 3 you were actually just part of whatever world you chose at the start. The rest you could travel to through a vacation and such. It was so much more immersive that way.
The sims 3 is my absolut favourite. I loved Seasons, the weather was so realistic, gloomy, cozy... Another favourite of mine was Generations, I loved it so much, the gameplay was amazing. Unfortunately most of the time I wasn't even able to play the game because it was crushing all the time 😭
i remember the sheer joy generations brought me but world adventures. was the fucking goat. like i was just talking abt champs le sims with my sister the other day and she was like “you mean champs elysee” AND I LITERALLY BLANEKD OUT AND SHE WAS LIKE “SIMS 3”
i remember playing the sims 3 for 12 hours when i was younger. with my friends, alone it didn't matter. i used to build the same thing over and over but it was always different you know? anyway.... i miss it
The thing I think I miss most from this game is the "jam sessions" you could do. Idk if that came with a pack or something, but it was really cool to have my sims all play music *together*
It came with late night! Along with Bridgeport, apartments, vampires, and celebrities. The bands were the coolest gameplay, like playing at dive bars and lounges.
@@Roseyfinchartworks I think that's something I liked about Sims 3 too.. the packs really added A LOT. Sims 4 packs just add like one theme and that's it.
IIRC, you had to actually go to all the different bars and have the drinks to learn how to make them all. And each bar only had a couple different ones, so you really had to bar hop to learn them all. I really liked that. And going down into the subway tunnels to play instruments and make money. Man, TS3 just had so much more life than TS4.
@@Roseyfinchartworks as someone who was very young and only had the sims 3 pets and is honestly only used to the sims 4, all of that came in one pack?? To me, that’s absolutely crazy.
Every time I watch sims 3 videos I remember that I spent months creating a victorian English countryside based on images I found in country living magazine.... I'm honestly still proud of it.
You should be proud - that sounds lovely (and like a fun thing to do)! My personal fun is recreating historic grist mill buildings I find online and turning them into houses, although I am rather proud of the Elizabethan manor home sitting in the ruins of a castle that I did recently. I really do have the most fun building in Sims 3!
I will still champion Sims 2 because I'm a gameplayer who likes gameplay. The Wants and Fears system, memories...incredible. I'm not a builder. I know in previous videos and streams, Kayla has tried the Sims 2 and hated the building system. I wish she would play a premade family like Don Lothario and follow the storylines without paying attention to building. To my knowledge, she hasn't really tried the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection that much.
2 was on another level. I played the crap out of it and I'm so sad I missed the Ultimate Collection coming out. I really loved 3 as well. But 2, on all platforms was just good.
I still play the sims 2 regularly, I can't even get myself to enjoy sims 4 anymore because the gameplay is sooo shallow in comparison. The chemistry system too is incredible in sims 2!
Kayla is a builder, I'm pretty sure she doesn't actually want to do anything else, which is totally fine. I'm a gameplay person and I also prefer sims 3
I remember playing the sims 3 and thinking why on earth anyone would need cc or mods cause it was so perfect to me. Gosh I miss the sims 3. I’m gonna go download the cracked version and play it now.
ts3 is my favorite. i wish i was able to still play it but my laptop can barely handle ts4. i had a lot of packs and it was great. when ts4 came out i was SO disappointed that i actually requested a refund and "returned" my digital copy of it and continued to play ts3 for a while afterwards. i actually didn't start using mods until ts4 bc i honestly loved ts3 as it was
Yesss I have no mods for ts3 and never needed them. I had to download them right away for ts4 when I started playing even though I have like a dozen packs on top of base game
The absolute best part about Create a Style is for wood, I remember when I first played the Sims 4 I hated it since every piece of furniture clashed horribly as you couldn’t easily choose matching styles, whereas in the Sims 3 I was able to make all of my furniture the same style of wood, and specially the texture and colour of wood *I* wanted, which is amazing. The Sims 3 really gave you so much choice and leet you be creative in ways the Sims 4 doesn’t.
i have a little tip that always works for me when create-a-style starts being extremely laggy- try exiting build/buy mode for a second or two. this should fix the lag or at least make it a little bit more bearable
Yeah she mentioned it at one point. Most of the lag in the game comes from scripting errors in the core of the game, which there's mods to fix. There's also a CC patch for the game that drastically reduces lag especially in the build/buy and create-a-style. There's also a few tweaks you can do to the configs as well to speed up the game. I think they even released a 64bit version of the game which speeds things up a lot too.
ahhh the nostalgia. i literally remember exactly where i was when ts3 came out. I was in 6th grade, playing outside during recess in elementary school. Same goes for when I found out ts2 existed, back in like 2006. those days
There’s definitely some features from the sims 3 that I wish got carried over to the sims 4. Like the item customization and open world concept and some other small features would make the sims 4 just so much better
Some? Most of the features from 3 were great. Nobody would even be playing 4, if we had the build and cas improvements, as well as updated graphics and lighting in 3. The gameplay, customization, freedom and AI is just on a whole other level. Heck the whole game itself. Would anyone really prefer 4 if they looked the same? 😅
My friend just recently purchased the entirety of the sims 3 for my birthday. I’m so excited to play it, I only had the city pack and the pets pack. Loved this game
I just recently got a better laptop so i can finally play the sims 3 again! i've been playing it nonstop for weeks, just remembering everything that younger me loved to do... i love ts3. so much.
I recently tried passing all of my old sims 3 files from my 2010 computer (had to use a 10 year old backup, manually transfer all the files and download several no CD mods), put it in my macbook pro WORK COMPUTER, and newrly DESTROYED IT 😭😭😭
I truly love Sims 4, it looks great I love the content..but Sims 3..just..has something. I often go back to play it myself, I absolutely just love the content, it's such a great game.
@@kiwipops I know that, I'm not stupid. Realistically I'd want just the color wheel, not the patterns. The patterns and textures slow it down significantly. The sims 4's more simple and stylized art style would also be more lag friendly and the sims 3 was made over a decade ago. I'm sure that the code could be more optimized than it currently is. My point was that just taking the sims 3 + sims 4 style and build mode wouldn't solve the lag problem if it were actually made.
@@kiwipops The main lag on Sims 3 was actually from a scripting error you can fix with a mod. If I remember correctly, there were pathing issues with Sims within the open world and this applied to vehicles, sims themselves, the wild animals, etc. It'd start to cause more and more lag as you keep the game open. With the mod to fix it, the game became nearly lag free even in the create a style.
Tip, for whoever needs it: when create-a-style is lagging tf out loading in a million patterns and preventing you from leaving/saving a style/switch to another item, click the icon of your currently selected pattern channel, and the action buttons will un-grey and become clickable.
I have played since the first sims and was in love! Sims 3 is my favorite. So when I saw what they were doing with 4 ... I couldn't get myself to buy it, I hated how much they back tracked more than added to the experience.
I just started playing sims 3 again cuz the desire system in this game was absolutely perfect and the story of a sim writes itself. I didn't play much with buy and build mode yet, but this video makes me want to!
That's what I liked about older sims games.. 1, 2, and 3 all had story that would write itself. Sims 4 is far too much of a sandbox for me. Like to make anything happen you have to do it yourself which just gets boring.. The whims on Sims 4 tried to fix that but they were so optional and so tiny on the UI you'd forget about them a lot. The wants, fears, desires, etc on Sims 3 though really kept pushing you to do little goals and typically really fit your sim too. So you didn't always feel like you're the only thing creating their story.
recently i play a ton of sims 2 and 3 and LOVE it. The sims feel so alive and the storylines feel amazing. Love the drama and gameplay of these games. Sims 4 could never for me.
Omg my 13 year old heart is soaring watching you play the Sims 3! It wasn't the first Sims I played but it was definitely the MOST played for me. Such nostalgia!
I loved sims 3! I didn’t have the luxury of playing with expansion packs back then so I only played with the base game which I admit it still more fun than sims 4. I recently bought an expansion pack bundle of generations and world and adventures at Walmart both for only $20! (They cost $20 each on origin) I have been having a blast playing sims 3 again! It’s so much fun! I will say I do miss the gallery in sims 4 though because I hate building lol
I love playing Polly Maloney in Bridgeport. She lives in the basement of Maloney Towers. She's great for a rags-to-riches story. I sold off most of the decor (such as it was) in her apartment and used the money to buy sleeping bags. Then I got 7 roommates who all slept in the sleeping bags and used that income to live on while Polly developed her career as an interior designer. She has her own mansion now.
hi kayla. i have been watching you for three years, and i’ve just always wanted to say that you have become my comfort. no matter how bad my mental health is, my relationships, my day at work, anything; i can come home and play your most recent video and my day gets better. i look forward to it every day, because it almost feels like home; it makes me feel so comfortable and safe. in a weird way. i know you will likely never see this, but i just hope you know your importance beyond the sims community. you bring people happiness and comfort, and your videos have helped me through some of my darkest times. thank you for everything you do. thank you for everything you’ve done for me without knowing. thank you.
OMG I totally agree! I guess besides building and customizing, I actually liked TS3 gameplay better. Career progress, life goals and stuff. Guess I'll have to reinstall it now :)
sims 2 and 3, and even some of sims 1, had complete sets of furniture. I wish they wpuld use those new kits to convert those items to Sims 4, there was so many cool furnitures and nostalgic objetcs...
God I wish Sims 3 ran on my computer, I spent hours and hours playing it as a kid. I didn't know you had to read video games when I played so I didn't really know what was going on but I loved it.
@@Taevas___ I see there are a million NRAAS plugins, but most of them don't have to do with crashing/lag. I have Overwatch and Errortrap, are there others for stability and performance?
I think I started playing the Sims 3 when I was 10 years old. I have over 500 hours into the game according to Steam, and I loved it! Nowadays, I haven't been playing it, like, at all, but I still look at it as a fond memory. Thank you for making this video Kayla and feeding my nostalgia!
I feel like I could have really enjoyed the sims 3 more if it weren’t for the melting faces and running at two frames per minute. Great for gameplay, though. It’s neck and neck with sims 2 for gameplay for me.
not sure if you've seen this already but basically you can get mods that REALLY change the game in terms of appareance. New sliders to make them attractive, beautiful skin blend/hair/clothes etc. On top of that you can follow few tutorials in order to tweak your game for it to be way faster + install a CC patch that speed the game tremendously. Obviously it's a handful and it might take a day or two but the result is soooo satsifying !
@@eloeden2056 There's also the mod that fixes the scripting errors in the game which speed it up drastically in nearly all aspects. Again, modders to the rescue, but nearly all of the bigger issues with Sims 3 that people have are actually fixed or at least DRASTICALLY reduced with mods.
It takes like 12 hours for me to do simple 1-2 bedroom house in Sims 4. Because of create a style, same build took like three times longer. I dont remember much but I always loved the cow and zebra print. I used them all the time for my sofas and armchairs. I also remember using cheapest items and build objects and used swatch I liked.
@3:30 - Sometimes it seems like I'm the only person in the world who turns Shop Mode off in the options so that I don't have to look at all the unowned Store items or the advertisements for them. :P
I'm -insert age before sims 3- and I used to be OBSESSED with sims 3 Island living. I wish i could deal with the old graphics, i would love to see people play on houseboats again, it was my absolute favorite thing to see a mermaid legacy back then.
I miss sims 2. I made my own town. And the families I played was 100 percent under my control. I preferred that. They’d not do anything at all if I didn’t play them or interact with them myself.
I’ve never played ts3 much because it was too much for my pc, but when I did I always used the cheapest floors, furnitures and the other stuff and then paint it my favorite color/wood swatch with create a style. It was like cheating but without actually cheating
I absolutely hated how the sims looked in ts3, but loooved the open world concept and the color wheel optios for the hair, where you could even set highlights or colored streaks. Still, it was not enough to make me play it too much, so i basically continued with ts2 until the 4 was released.
I started with the original sims game and it sometimes surprises me that some people have only ever played sims 4. Sims 2 and 3 are still some of my favorite games of all time.
I used to think: "Oh but i play ts3 so my builds will never be as pretty as Lilsimsie/Plumbellas s4 builds :))))" but seeing this really holds a mirror up to my lazy, bad-at-decorating, non-builder face... And i'd like to thank you for that.
I talk about this a lot with my friends! I've been playing the sims since the sims 2 (albeit I was super little but still), and while I love CAS with mods in the sims 4... nothing will ever top the overall experience of the sims 3. The Sims 3 was the first time I ever bought, and often pre-ordered, EVERY SINGLE PACK for any game ever! While the graphics of the sims 4 might top the sims 3, simply because of how dated the sims 3 graphics are, the experience is so lacking in comparison. ts3 was a game I rushed my dad at 8pm to take me to target to buy when it first came out. ts4 is a game I can only play for maybe 2 hours if I'm lucky before I'm bored.
I tried Sims4, but this game is heavily boring to me. Stayed with Sims2 and 3 and LOVE them so much. The details and gameplay, the sims and their emotions are just amazing. For me the best sims games of the franchise.
id love to see more sims 3 building videos from you- although it could be frustrating to record sometimes i think its very nostalgic and theres just so much potential !! :)
I love the sims 3 it’s my favorite game actually and it’s first game that got me addicted. But sims 4 just has a lot of good things w forget about? The multitasking alone just amazes me
12:25 funny that you mention it cuz where I live it's practically default to have a standalone shower, but if you have a bathtub or a combo, you would probably be seen as wealthy and fancy
There's also the thing about expansion packs, when you install all the sims 4 ones, it feels like it changed somewhere, but not a lot, whereas in sims 3 it feels like a completely different game. I remember playing sims 3 with almost all the expansion packs and stuff packs and there was so much stuff going on, that sometimes I didn't understand, what's going on, but it was a lot of fun, even though the game was very laggy because of all of this. I felt like I could find any clothes or furniture I want(it was a long ago, but if I remember correctly, there was a search bar in sims 3 to search through furniture) and there were a lot of events in life mode.
Hey, Kayla!! I was looking for mod updates after this week's game update, and on Patreon, Arnie (the dev of Farmland, Brookheights, and others) mentioned something about turning Color Wheel and Create-A-Style into a TS4 mod!
its so interesting that shower/bathtub combos are more popular for u bc i literally dont know anyone who has one. where i live showers and baths are almost always seperate.
I started playing the sims after sims4 came out, but actively still chose to start out with sims3 because i saw Mollys jelsa letsplay(result of a rabbithole) and saw all the weird glitches and fell in love
It was so fun to watch lmaooo i just recently started playing sims 3 after solving all the optimization problems and im enjoying, lag in sims 4 cannot be solved no mather how hard I try but sims 3 just running smooth as butter.
And freaking hoverboards (ACTUAL hoverboards, not the stupid non-hovering things that are called that for some reason in real life) and JETPACKS. :) And horses! And it was the first Sims game to have bicycles.
I totally agree with you! I played Sims 1 and 2 since my childhood, I even play Sims 2 occasionally now because it's amazing, Sims 4 is fine to some extent (especially buyilding mode). But Sims 3, excpet for the technical requirements of your cmputer, it is the BESTTTT
As someone who plays only the sims 3 I kinda get it yeah Moveobjects is perfect for just misolaneous decorations like if you wanna put a pair of shoes under a table I really like messing around with the supernatural mod pack it has most of the furnature that I regurally use There's also working bunkbeds
Sims 3 was absolutely the best game version. I hate, HATE not having an open world anymore. I loved CaSt sooo much. There was a lag while it loaded, but mine was never that bad, and it never crashed my game, so a small wait to get to do literally anything I wanted was worth it. It is funny you mention how dreary it looks. When I first played 4 I hated how bright it was. I thought it looked ridiculous, and 3 just looked more realistic, but now, I am like why is it so dark and depressing looking, lol. I guess I got used to 4 coloring, and learned to like it.
People praise the Sims 3 for so many things, but forget that Create-A-Style and just the game in general was so laggy and would crash so often that it was almost unplayable Don't get me wrong, I loved The Sims 3, but she ain't perfect lol
It depended on the computer you were using, and there were mods to help with lagginess. It wasn't too bad if you had an OK computer. I played it a ton on my laptop with lots of packs and while the loading screen took forever, the game itself ran fine.
Literally the only reason I moved onto Sims 4. Sims 3 was getting so big and so laggy it got annoying to play and I didn't want to get a monster PC just for a Sims game 🙃
@@CylindricalWhistle I have a 32 Gigabyte RAM computer and the Sims 3 is EXTREMELY laggy, like, when I’m just moving around things will freeze. It’s probably because it’s a 32-bit game, but it is REALLY bad… it’s why I prefer the Sims 4 now even though I have all the packs for the Sims 3.

I used to do that as well. Looked so good in the game.
Im gonna try that, thats some out of the box thinking!
Yes! Or the argyle Texture to make fishnets or the Metall texture in blue to create a jeans look. This game was everything to me
y’all are genius lol i’m stealing this idea now
I’m not gonna lie… I’ve been going back to the sims 3 more.. the whole open world was amazing and I miss it and it was the first sims game I ever played
i’ve literally been playing it the last week i miss it.
Literally same
Guys quick question in the sims 3 can you visit the other apartments in your building like the sims 2?
But lagggggggg

Unfortunately most of the time I wasn't even able to play the game because it was crushing all the time 😭

I think about this same thing every day of my sad little life ToT
Sims 2 is and was the all time best.. sims 4 is also not to bad..
I love Sims 2 and 3, but 2 definitely has the best storylines. That makes going back and playing it so special
I’m gonna go download the cracked version and play it now.
omg where you do u get the cracked version from?? i need to know !!
ts3 is my favorite. i wish i was able to still play it but my laptop can barely handle ts4. i had a lot of packs and it was great. when ts4 came out i was SO disappointed that i actually requested a refund and "returned" my digital copy of it and continued to play ts3 for a while afterwards. i actually didn't start using mods until ts4 bc i honestly loved ts3 as it was
Sameeeee 😭💔
Sims 3 will forever be my favorite, I grew up playing it sadly the sims 4 never lived up to my expectations even though I love the game
Yes, it is.
But no only for the color wheel... All the details, the love, the opportunities... The sims 3 will rock for ever!♥
Create-A-Style was one of the best things TS3 had to offer :) also the traits and how they actually meant something.
ahhh the nostalgia. i literally remember exactly where i was when ts3 came out. I was in 6th grade, playing outside during recess in elementary school. Same goes for when I found out ts2 existed, back in like 2006. those days
I love the sims 3 so much, I miss open world, going to the middle of nowhere to get a seed honestly fantastic
@KenyaGirly I actually agree with you. A lot of things are the best in TS2! :)
My friend just recently purchased the entirety of the sims 3 for my birthday. I’m so excited to play it, I only had the city pack and the pets pack. Loved this game

100% agree, just take out the sims 3 lag and were set
@@kill4karma The reason the Sims 3 lagged was because of all those features though, like colour wheel, open world, etc.
With the mod to fix it, the game became nearly lag free even in the create a style.
i hope that for the sims 5

Same here. Sims 3 was my favorite, especially the whole tomb exploration thing.

The key to Sims 3 building is embracing the weird sense of style of it. Also to only use create a style to *slightly* tweak things

People praise the Sims 3 for so many things, but forget that Create-A-Style and just the game in general was so laggy and would crash so often that it was almost unplayable
