    Hey everyone! I ended up splitting this video in two parts or it would have been an hour long. In the next part, I'll cover careers, CAS, and build/buy mode in the base games.
    I also want to clarify that this is a broad overview and I wasn't able to cover every detail in a 30 minute video. However, I plan to make more in-depth comparisons covering a single aspect of the game in the future. If I didn't cover something here, I will get to it! Thank you for watching!

      I’ve actually been building my own save In Sims 4, and I’ve been cheating relationships to make them match the stories in the description. That and experimenting with some mods to try and add some more to the personality of the sims. It’s a bit of a shame that I find myself doing it, but at least I’m putting my own stamp on it I guess.
      Once I’m happy, I’m probably just going to reload that save as my default instead of a fresh save, and enjoy seeing some chaos hopefully unfold a little bit more sims 2 style.
      Here’s hoping it works. There was some real potential for good storytelling if they’d developed the in game sims and the relationship mechanics some more.

    Fun Fact: The Sims 3 has a hidden memory system. I'm not referring to the scrapbook feature introduced in The Sims 3 Generations. There's a class in the game's code called "Life Event Manager" that registers the date and time of every event in our Sims' lives (as well as the actor and target of said event). Then that data is saved in our Sim's information (this is called Sim's description in the code of the game). The game knows the exact date our Sims started working at a particular job and they use that information for the work anniversary pop-up; it knows our Sims' wedding anniversary and it uses it for the anniversary moodlet. The game also takes note every single time the relationship status towards someone changes and it uses it in various ways. Our Sims remember books they read, recipes they cooked, etc. I wish we could visualize this memory system in the game though.

    • @PleasantSims
      @PleasantSims  4 ปีที่แล้ว +393

      That's so interesting! It would be great if we could have some kind of visual record in the game, I agree.

      It also has hidden skills and traits that connect with the lore. One vampire in Bridgeport has a trait that makes him imune to fire for example. It’s fantastic!

    • @Vickpiure
      @Vickpiure 4 ปีที่แล้ว +210

      Sims 4 has a hidden delete everything button in the code that is programmed to press itself every 2 seconds so it doesn’t register anything about a specific sim so you can’t enjoy the gameplay. In a specifc class, called “Fuck you”, there is a method, “Ignore”, that is further implemented in a derivated class called “Fuck you Simmers we do what we want take this star wars pack”. That method has the role of ignoring every wish and suggestion expressed by the community. Isn’t that amazing?

    • @gothboithick
      @gothboithick 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Carolina Rosa what skill gives fire immunity?

    • @Carolina-rd3gh
      @Carolina-rd3gh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      lithiumkid In Beau Merrick’s case is a trait not really a skill. He has the Pyromaniac hidden trait. His looks are supposed to resemble a devilish nature along with his evil trait and are inspired in the Deacon Frost character from Marvel. His household is filled with girls that you can play with to fulfil his serial romantic aspiration. You can drink all their blood and then create a fire and you will notice that if his love interest don’t leave he will be the only one not dying surrounded by flames since he can create fire himself and combat it.
      You can do really messed up gameplays with this kind of depth like moving in 4 love interests at once to romance, drink from and burn and replace with new sims to fulfil his lifetime aspiration. Some ghosts when brough back in Bridgeport have premade relationships that reveal the friction between the vampire clans like the ghost buried in the Plasma lounge.
      The Sims 3 is a league of their own in terms of lore: it goes beyond just families and invades the actual world and setting.

      I am sadden to say this but
      Build mode: Sim 4 FTW!
      Despite the lake of a color wheel, it is by far the easiest to build with. The optimization of it has made me clock a ton of hour building all sorts of stuff far faster than I could in the other games. The whole system is such a blast to use that I sometimes wonder why they didn't just make a MySims styled building game instead of mainline sims title.
      By the MySims style gameplay I am referring to making houses and stuff for the community not the questing aspect, so essentially I'm pitching a spin off of a spin off. Of course it would have had the classic MySims style and be for a young audience but I don't mind with a building system that nice.
      Bonus
      Actually a children's game franchise: MySims
      Is not meant to be a children's game franchise: The Sims (mainline series)

    Another thing about the sims 4 that just makes me so mad is the traits. When I got get famous I wanted to make a rich celebrity sim and the traits I gave her was self absorbed, mean and materialistic. Somehow those traits didn’t mean anything at all during the gameplay. My sims celebrity reputation was good which didn’t make sense considering her traits. The only thing the traits did was have a moodlet show up every once in a while. Which doesn’t mean anything since the emotion system in the game is completely broken. Like if your gonna make traits and an a emotion system have them mean something.

    • @waitwhat6906

      I'm always blown away (and not in a good way) by how easy it is to play a mean / evil / jealous / hothead / unflirty sim who just gets along with everyone and has basically no problems socially, even down to how easy it is to make an unflirty sim fall in love and become flirty. Recently I had a mean sim get a whim to volunteer with his family, but afterwards got upset about it. I'm sorry, how does that make any sense? Why the heck did he want to do a thing that he knew would upset him? I could understand if it came from another trait like Family Oriented or Outgoing, but no, it came from "being near a family member". Unless "Dog Lover" makes a sim more charitable (or "Paranoid", don't see how that would work), he has nothing in his traits which would make this whim make sense. I really do miss the personality traits, wants and fears of Sims 2 and the traits of Sims 3.
      Compare the insane (or erratic) trait from Sims 3 and Sims 4 for a great example of how lackluster traits are in 4. In 3, erratic sims would actively freak out other sims without even trying, whereas in 4 your erratic sim can talk to themselves in their underwear in the middle of a city festival and no one bats an eyelash at it. Absolutely no meaning or immersion to the traits now, it's sad to see.

      @@MrMarinus18 I know this is old but I saw your comment and I have to agree. I started playing Sims 4 first because I never could afford the setup or the games in the past. I recently tried Sims 3 and finally it clicked what everyone was saying about the Sims in 4 being like robots that had no autonomy as far as their thoughts or reactions to things. Its so easy to develop relationships in Sims 4 in any direction compared to Sims 3. What's the point in that, if it's all the same pretty much and you have to make up stuff in your head to make a narrative for your family as you go to make it an enjoyable experience . All the Sims in 4 to me feel like the same person.

Like how they open the car doors to get in them, opening cabinets and drawers when they cook, remove an actual slice of pizza from the box and the pie will have that slice missing from when they removed it, couch cushions sink down when they sit, etc. And their reactions to their family members, like the little kids would greet their parents when they come home from work or cry when their parents argue, when elder sims hug their adult children they wave them over like to say “get over here and give me a hug”. Some of the kid interactions (esp. the report card one) would not work in the Sims 3, where kids can return home and be the only ones there while everyone else is at work. In the Sims 2, the kid would be taken by the Social Worker if this situation happened. I guess that is a reflection of the times: the Sims 3 is a chronological prequel to the Sims 2, taking place in a time when things were safer, evident by how kids had a longer curfew in the Sims 3 (10 PM vs 6 PM)

    The Sims 4 is really pushing a “YOU make the story” thing. That’s why they would say there’s basically no built-in lore, and they can wave away concerns about boring/personality-less Sims as you not being creative enough. The whole Sims Spark’d was framed around the idea of Sims players being storytellers. The problem is that Sims has always had lore-based AND completely original story possibilities. You could easily ignore lore-based Sims in previous games, if you wanted, but you also were given many interesting places to start in the lore, if that’s what you preferred. In the Sims 3 and especially the Sims 2, you can make whatever story you want and are given the options to make it happen as you want it. Then, in the Sims 4, they tell us to “make our own stories,” but then never give us the tools that would make that really happen like personality traits that matter, neighborhood customization, a memory system in Sims, wants and fears, story progression/meaningful activities for all ages, and more.

    When the sims 4 was just released, it seemed to be boring and empty. Now we have a lot of packs, but it's still boring. Sims lack personality. And why we have aspirations instead of lifelong wishes? You can literally fulfill all aspirations for one sim.

      I actually liked that in the beginning. Shorter lasting aspirations felt more realistic, like it was room for the sims to change and grow, and not to be bound by ONE major life goal, which is unrealistic. But I also feel like it’s very poorly executed, aspirations are basically tutorials, and they dom’t affect their personalities, wants and fears etc. So I think it had potential to create another layer of depth, but of course they failed spectacularly in the execution.

    • @PoseurGoth
      @PoseurGoth 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I prefer the aspirations. But to be honest, I'd kind of prefer a return to the way things were in the Sims 2 base game, where we just got rid of lifetime wishes altogether, and just had aspiration themes instead, although possibly numerous ones in multiple categories (for example, different money/career based aspirations, like getting a lot of money and career advancement, buying expensive stuff, or even a slacker one which would reward you for vacationing and taking time off. And for friendship you could have some based on having a ton of acquaintances, a smaller set of really close friends, or even a long distance option that would reward hermits).

    • @kiarimiako8399
      @kiarimiako8399 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@corelli_cat1453 Ye, having several aspirations is more realistic. But fulfilling them really doesn't impact your sim's life. Corelli_Cat they should have life wishes for every age group if you know what I mean. They are basically watered down young adults)

    I honestly really like rabbitholes in sims 3. First of all, imagine the performance issues we would have if they made open stores, restaurants, etc. aswell. It would be horrible.
    But the biggest reason why i actually like rabbitholes is the "stress" you might have when playing all your sims in an open world at once. Ambitions gave us interactive "no-rabbithole" jobs and i rarely play that pack because its just "too much" for me when i have 4 other sims that do other stuff in the world at the same time. It maybe works in small households when the other sims are at work/school so you only control your one sims ambitions-job. But i like big families and i like the fact they can be all around the town, everyone doing something else.
    Rabbitholes support me so i dont have too much to do at once. I like it when my sims go on a date to a restaurant and i will just play my other sims during that. The small "options" you get in most rabbitholes (like working hard or be lazy instead at work/school) are enough for me.
    For Sims 5 i hope they give us the option to either play the job/date/whatever interactively ourselves OR let the sims go to that place alone as a rabbithole. Similar to Sims 3 Ambitions Doctors where you occasionally have interactive jobs (that you can ignore) or in sims 4 where you can send a pregnant sim to the hospital alone or go with them.

Then fade into the lot I was visiting and having things to do. They really only needed to fix the community lot time travel issue so you could swap between family members in different locations and so time actually passed and you didn’t return home the same time you left. The ONLY minor changes I would make.
      I also wish there were sections of open neighborhood where you could freely walk to you neighbors, but I don’t need the whole map open all at once. Just little sections you could freely walk around without a loading screen.

I never really got into Sims 3 but I can easily admit it's a well-made game that improves certain aspects of Sims 2 in a way a sequel game naturally would, while also adding its own spin so it's not just more of the same. ...And then there's Sims 4, doing neither of those things.

      It's really interesting that many things from before 2012 aren't nostalgia and actually are better in many regards. At least when it comes to games. I show my nephew games from my childhood and he gets impressed and even plays them on his own. The old industry used to be filled with many passionate developers doing the most they couldwith what they had, trying to make a new or unique experience. Nowdays its all about meeting industry standards. An over focus on graphics and performance rather than gameplay and story experience. Most of the Sims 4 expansions should have and probably could have been in the base game but were left out as a planned expansion rather than "wow our game came out great, lets add to it."

      This is something that the Sims 4 kind of does well, because certain lot types tend to attract certain ages (although later expansions have kind of changed this partially). For example, in the base game the nightclubs would primarily attract young adults, bars tended to get adults, parks have a stronger appeal to teenagers, etc. That was one of the things the game got right. And I haven't felt like there was a ton of conflict between different packs.

      this. i get so frustrated with my sims wanting to do everything at once when i only want them to eat their sandwich and hurry to work... i also don't like how unnatural the multitasking system is, especially when it's conversing with other sims-- tho that might sound weird. i prefer ts2 style where they'll converse with sims while eating as long as they're in a certain radius from them. sorta wish it was like that for radios and tvs too, and then shorten the amount of time they spend eating while multitasking. i don't know how many times i've gotten mad because they'd take forever to prepare a meal, and then forever to eat because they wanted to talk to someone and watch tv... and just not eat... then they have to go to work... like bruh. did no one test this?

      I think it’s a shame because I remember how ea back in the day sold multitasking as a super revolutionary feature to the sims but at the end I think is one of the many reasons I ratter play sims 2 or 3 instead of sims 4.

    The sims 3 world with the most lore is probably Twinbrook, there's like a thousand mysteries there. Other worlds have their things like Isla Paradiso with its cheating scandals and little mermaid spoofs but Twinbrook is just unmatched.

      I like Sunset Valley (Bunch, Crumplebottom, Langerak and Wolff are my favourite families) and Twinbrook the best in terms of lore. Bridgeport is decent; but I find it less diverse in terms of personalities and occupations. Too little sims in some careers and like 5 female journalists that have somewhat the same vibe in terms of personality. Isla Paradiso has weaker storylines but it’s one of the most stunning worlds and an incredible and criminally underrated pack simply because people have crappy computers and are butt hurt that fantastic gameplay demands a decent laptop.

      @Carolina-rd3gh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      André Alcântara I don’t have any problems with Island Paradise actually so I never experienced those difficulties. The problem with performance has more to do with your computer than the actual game. I think a Windows update made modern computers unable to recognise the graphics card for certain games. This is a Windows issue.

    • @s181miri6
      @s181miri6 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      While it's true there are some potential issues with running TS3 on a modern build (fixable ones), the game is definitely a bit of a mess to be fair. In Isla Paradiso there are a lot of routing problems, bugged collectables, a corrupted household apparently (Scott family) and so on. I remember years ago when the sims team had some serious lag during the livestream to promote the expansion (with SimGuru Graham). Very disruptive and I think they only had BG+Island Paradise installed. This is why NRaas performance mods and world fixes exist.

    As a person who started playing The Sims at 2003, The Sims 2 was a big leap forward, the graphics at the time (2004) were top notch and by looking how they’re rendered on a modern day computer like yours just tells the story: the game is a masterpiece, and unbelievably relevant even today 16 years later. I was a devoted player of the franchise, I purchased every expansion and stuff pack and I genuinely enjoyed my time playing it.
    That was until The Sims 4 came, I was surprised by myself but my excitement for the game sharply dropped after two months. The game was very dull and boring, and never felt more worthy after The Sims 2 and 3 had such extensive gameplays. Six years later and The Sims 4 is still in production, feels out of touch, lacking and still seems like a big disappointment. The fact that they ended production for The Sims 2 after four years, but The Sims 4 with all the negativities is still being developed after six years (to no avail imo) feels super unjustified. I would recommend EA to carry on for The Sims 5 and to listen for the devoted players that play for two decades and have an idea what worked in the past that will obviously work now, but greed has taken over and it’d be better for them to keep out of another sequel that might make things worse.
    The Sims 2 is a diamond and The Sims 3 is also great imo, at least we earned them.

    I'm not a big fan of rotational play. We've been doing that since Sims 1. After a while, I need my sims to sims surroundings to change. Micro-manging gets boring to me after a while. It's a major reason why I love Sims 3. I have more time to flesh out my own storyline without having to stop.
    I just got back into Sims 2 after kind of quitting Sims 4. Sims 2 makes up for it with details and lore drama, but I end up missing the things I had in Sims 3. The open-world, rabbit-holes, transportation variety, and overall experience. I prefer rabbit-holes cause it minimizes gameplay noise TS2 has. I went to a University Library lot to do a term paper and got distracted by a witch, a weirdo magician, the secret society, and the mascot. I dunno about y'all but... I just want my sim to do their paper without getting robbed, turned into a witch, and kidnapped.

      The Sims 3 allows you to play rotational style pretty well unlike what she says if you use settings. I usually play in that micromanaging approach for the first 25 weeks of gameplay to set up my families (I have a save file for each world to cut that time frame short) and then I activate story progression and ageing and let them do their thing. I then keep jumping from family to family every few weeks but without being maniac and controlling everything. I play in every style pretty much. I love that the Sims 3 allows me to so.

      @waitwhat6906 4 ปีที่แล้ว +96

      THANK YOU. I rarely see people talking about this, for all the talk of representation they've actively _removed_ a lot of the representation that we already had. The Calientes are of course the biggest example of this, having had their entire family history and cultural background erased for some weird four-way relationship plot (which doesn't actually exist) between Don and their (fake) mother, but the Goths (particularly Cassandra) are also a blatant example of how little they _actually_ care about representation, Cassandra looks like a completely different sim, even with her "iconic" pigtails.
      I also see both the Calientes and Goths as examples of interesting premade familiars that became boring beyond measure in TS4. I mean, both families have prominent ties to aliens in their history which go completely unaddressed in 4 (with the Calientes even having alien ancestors, though of course newer players get no indication of that). The Goths just aren't the same without the famous Goth mansion graveyard, and as Marticore points out in this very comment section, where the heck is Michael Bachelor? Did they just not know how to integrate him into the plot this time around, or simply not care to? Don't even get me started on how little effort they put into bringing back Dirk Dreamer and Dustin Broke, or the Pleasant Twins, or how they seem utterly incapable of deciding on and sticking to a personality for Malcolm Landgraab. I mean, he literally went from Good in 3, to Evil in 4, where's the logic??? The lack of lore in TS4, given how much there was in previous games, is just sad.

    • @s181miri6

      Agree. Also I don't get how they get away with marketing the game as inclusive and that you'd be able to create yourself in the game. I wish they'd not do that, because many ofc can't. You'd pretty much have to be a certain age, height, body type (no hip dips a.s.o.), color (skin, eyes, hair), abled bodied, hair texture, no body hair, identify as female or male and not have much of a personality. Plus more. Also, want to add your partner? If you're not married you can't in CAS. Imo they should't pretend TS4 to be inclusive, because it's not true and might make some vulnerable ppl/kids feel bad about themselves.

Love the frozen lakes you can scate on. Love the festivals. Nothing in sims 4 compares to this. Dont remember everything about sims 2, but do remember when you walk up to a car, open doors and get it. So much better than just magically appearing in car like sims 3. Sims 2 also had best looking fire in the fireplace. When u switch the lights off at night, the flames actually reflect and flicker in the room. No other sims edition had that in. Super realistic.

    It’s honestly so sad that the lore was changed in the sims 4 because I can’t imagine HOW they could fix the lore in the sims 5 (if EA actually cares to fix it). When / if the sims 5 happens I will be really curious where they take the lore. Will they try to return back to the OG ts2 and ts3 lore? Or will they continue ts4 lore? I think the “alternate universe” excuse is just that, an excuse. I have a feeling EA just made that up when ppl complained abt the lack of and mistakes in the lore. It makes me so sad that the lore was just DROPPED after ts3. I want Will Wright to come back and drop a new simulation game so he can pick up where EA left off with our sims. My question for TS4 is: Where's Michael freakin' Bachelor?!
    When it comes to relationships in this part, they're basically what they would be if you just created those families yourself. Like the Pancakes family - the description says that they have marriage problems, when their relationship is just the default straight from CAS. Same for the BFF family - if you make 3 Sims that are just roommates, they will have exactly those relationships.
    Whims who? I turned them off ages ago, totally useless XD
    And I can never really say that multitasking is an advantage, since most simulation glitches and canceling actions comes from that feature alone. I kind of have a love-hate relationship with this one.
    And unfortunately, TS3's in-game story progression stopped working completely after some patches, so now nothing happens in other families if you don't have the NRaas mod. Everyone will eventually die and be replaced with Sims that all have the same face. But the town is still very lively, with all the Sims hanging around, going to work etc.

    Okay, I really feel like I'm the only person in the world who thinks Sims 4 is an ugly game xD idk, I don't like how bland and "clean" everything in it looks, including the world and the sims themselves. Also, I think the sims often have really weird proportions, like very wide hips with matchstick-thin legs. The only thing I didn't like about how the sims in Sims 3 looked was the notorious pancake face (i. e. every automatically generated sim had the same round face).
    Speaking of looks and general atmosphere, I think Sims 2 excelled here, too - because the game dared to be ugly. It never really tried to make people say "ohh, this is pretty" - instead, it rather focused on making people laugh. Extreme contortions in CAS, idle animations of farting, the way interactions were animated, nasty stink clouds and fly swarms, and so on ... it never tried to be a dollhouse, and it had the best sense of humour of all of the three games because of it.
    Sims 3 sims aside, the worlds itself were just beautiful and so realistic. I remember gasping in awe when I let my first sim travel to Egypt and zoomed into the neighborhood view. and the best part was that I could go just everywhere, even inside the tombs.
    and then we were given that weird comic style of sims 4. which is neither very funny, nor very realistic. it's made to run on weak systems and does that perfectly, but that's it.

    I grew up with TS3, but played a lot of TS4 because my laptops handled it better, and saying I was bored of TS4 is an understatement. I sure enjoy my fast-loading, dynamic CAS when my old TS3 setup used to take ages, but if that's the only fun part of the game, then it's worthless. There's no use being able to easily create a shell if it remains empty due to lack of customization and depth!
    TS2 probably is the best game objectively, but since I lack the experience (and nostalgia) for it, I firmly remain in Team TS3. At least, having a legacy there and plopping my own Sims in the world was fun there. This video just shows exactly why TS2 and 3 are in another league compared to TS4.

The Sims 3 simply cannot compare to any of these because it surpasses their scope entirely and gives you a fuller, more amino, expansive and immersive gameplay that is unlike any of the others.
      I have played all 3 and have nostalgia for the Sims 2 and I have no doubt the Sims 3 is objectively the best game. There is no comparison. The Sims 3 is a beast with a solid base game and the most incredible and valuable DLC out of all of them.

      @@Carolina-rd3gh Honestly it depends on personal playing style. I couldn't get into Sims 3 because I genuinely don't like the story progression and open world. Sims 2 fits me much better, so it's my favourite and I'm still playing it to this day, but I have no problem acknowledging that Sims 3 is a well-made game as well and I will occasionally play it for variety. Sims 4 just doesn't have the strengths of either.

You can have a sims that is totally in love with someone who just sees them as a friend.

I know that for many it may be just a game, but for me it's the best way to escape my suffocating reality. I've been playing since I was I child and it helped me develop who I am today, so seeing the state of the game nowadays just breaks my heart.
    I really started loving the lore and premades thanks to you and I really wish I could repricate your gaming style because it's the best in my opinion. Sadly this isn't possible in the Sims 4, even with several different mods, the core of the game is gone. Also I still think that they could have said that it took place some time before Bella's disappearance, so people could actually have come up with some teories, but instead they just threw in the stupid alternative universe idea (also showing how lazy that was).
    I'm just overall really disapponted as this is something that means the world to me.

    I do love the sims 2 but I do feel that the sims’ personality was more interesting in the sims 3. The wants and fears in the sims 2 were great but they were always limited to whichever aspiration they had, and the personalities were a combination of points for 5 binary scales. I miss the memories and fears in the sims 3, but I personally prefer the personalities in the sims 3. Also the fact that clothes were so customisable.
    But I 100% agree that the sims 4 craps on the lore. What they did to Dina and Nina I can’t forgive, but they also completely change Malcom Landgraab (son of Nancy). In the sims 3 he was a Good sim who imo was the hope for his family as he seemed more interested in being a doctor and helping people. But in the sims 4 they made him an Evil sim. Which is utterly stupid

    • @Carolina-rd3gh
      @Carolina-rd3gh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Sims 3 have the best personality out of all the games. The Sims 4 personalities are bland are a slave to emotions. The Sims 2 is super limited because there are not really traits but rather a point based system that stops you from creating a sim because you run out of points and puts you automatically in a zodiac sign based on the personality you choose and you cannot change it. Also, the interests of the sims 2 are cool but are totally randomised and only customisable if you spend precious days of a life stage reading magazines to increase it. For personality the Sims 3 has absolutely no competition.

      Carolina Rosa 100% agree. I’d have to resort to cheats on the sims 2 to customise the personality and interests the way I wanted. Even then they’re not as good as the sims 3. There weren’t specialised interactions like in the sims 3 (eg Insane sims could talk to themselves). They also weren’t as nuanced because they were based on the binaries. Eg in the sims 3 you can make someone that is Evil but also Friendly (so you could make a manipulative person),m

    Honestly, I wish the Sims 4 actually did something with its lore and pre-made households like previous games.
    Like, the Landgraabs in Oasis Springs are said to have secrets which could tear them apart and cause drama! Plus, they disowned Johnny Zest, meaning things could be tense between them. But since the Sims 4 doesn't really have lasting consequences (sometimes sims will keep doing friendly interactions after yelling at each other) and Johnny Zest isn't even in the Landgraab family tree, nothing comes from that.

    The Sims 3 is my favourite, personally - there aren't as many of those little lifelike details like those in the Sims 2, but the sims themselves have a lot of depth. I spent a while playing TS4 before going back to TS3 and was super surprised by how much the traits actually affect sims and even intersect. Brave sims will fight the burglar (remember burglars??) but not if they're also good. I have a sim who's a loner and brooding, and if she loses a friend her social meter absolutely bottoms out. Those things that don't just influence autonomy or give you a moodlet at random times really give the game a lot of depth and give each individual sim a unique playstyle.
    It's just such a shame that there's no fears, and no 64-bit client. I feel like a 64-bit client would eliminate most of the crashes. :/

    • @Carolina-rd3gh

      Bella Unfortunately it is also random again to cheat and change them. You basically have to randomise again and again until you get the one you want....
      To me the interests being randomised doesn’t make unique sims whatsoever. In fact, I’ve notice that there are very few randomised combinations of interests, maybe only like 12 or so, so it can feel like I’m creating the same character over and over again. I remember very well all the years playing sims 1, 2 and 3 in my childhood. And sims 4 may be beautiful on designs and on CAS/BUILD mode. But my personal favorite part of playing The Sims is the GAMEPLAY, drama and lore behind the families. And The Sims 4 is the worst for sure on these three aspects. I started playing the Sims at Sims 4. Looking back, Sims 2 and 3 look like our wildest dreams for the Sims 4. I guess corporate greed took over. I realized that EA did the same thing with Madden. As the years went on and their fanbase got larger, EA removed and watered down features from the previous games, but increased the graphics. To my knowledge, EA no longer makes the Madden games over the outcry from the players. (Sorry if I am wrong). I just never thought the same thing would happen to the Sims. I had so much hope for the Sims 4. But that Star Wars pack was just it for me, like a lot of other Simmers. The Sims 4 is good for building, and the CAS is good, but the skin tones are really bad. The darker ones have red splotches all over them and you actually can see the pixels. Luckily, mods exist. Anyway, I think I might have to invest in the Sims 2 and 3. I saw someone say this once in a forum discussion about these three games: Players are literally gods in The Sims 2. Yes, the game is old and is starting to show in some aspects (no multitasking, no color wheel, no advanced AI that prevent some stupid behaviors, no complex tools like the ones to build, etc) but it has the most god-like feeling when you are playing with it. You can literally do anything! Wanna play with families you didn't create and interpret their stories as you like? You can do that! Prefer to completely create your own families and worlds? Or even a mix of the two? Yes, and yes! Maybe you like to let your Sims decide by themselves? Well, just follow their Wants and Fears! But if you don't like that, you can just do whatever you want with their lifes! The game is not too difficult like TS1 and isn't too easy like TS4. And maybe there's no color wheel, but you can create your own CC with Bodyshop and Homecrafter, it's easy (oh boy, how many ugly Sailor Moon tshirts I've created...). The game is so simple to "learn" but so complex at it's core. YOU decide how you wanna play. You aren't limited by the game in any way. You. Are. A. God. And THAT'S what's terribly missing from TS4.

But it takes a lot of my own work to get it there, and I have to use my imagination to ad lib more where as in the previous games the sims did more of the ground work with the stories.

    I've played all the games plus Sims 1, Sims Medieval, the Life Stories and even Sim Town from the 90's. IMHO the only game with staying power is the Sims 2. The Sims 3 has too many technical issues that make any length of play near impossible. The Sims 4 is a disaster that us Sims lovers try to prop up. The Sims 2 rules!

      I agree Mary! The Sims 2 is still good 16 years later!

    I love that when you load a premade family in the sims 2, things are already happening. Like you load in the Curious Brothers, Pascal is pregnant. And Vidcund just got abducted. Good luck! You just loaded the Pleasants? Your side piece is coming over now. Goths? Cassandra’s getting married to Don.
