Great video. 2 yrs old and still relevant. Watched this video twice and went and looked at my AC unit. Same model number and same wiring schematics. A job that would normally take me 3-4 hours reading, tracing and testing took all of 25 minutes doing the install and wire verifications. Thank you so much.
Excellent DIY video. Most people - including a majority of TH-camrs - don't appreciate how much forethought, planning and effort are required to produce a video describing something potentially complicated in a way that is not only accurate, but also clearly presented and enjoyable to watch. You definitely have the formula dialed in. Kudos and keep up the good work!
David - because you might find it interesting let me add a little context about the video production comment. I've been watching a wide range of videos on TH-cam for a few years now and witnessed the full gamut: crappy content+lousy production, crappy content+decent production, good content+crappy production, good content+good production, and then the comparatively rare stuff like yours: especially good, relevant content, well presented, properly lit, good audio, captions or character gen if needed, restrained editing (not jumpy or too much fancy fades and wipes, etc). It takes a lot to get there. I haven't produced or published a single video on TH-cam but did do some video production back in the mid to late 80's on the old-school equipment in use just before NLE became the standard. The ENG grade cameras and all the related gear were heavy and cumbersome and a complete nuisance to get all set up. And you can probably imagine the kind of gear you needed to make moving camera shots. As far as post, the old style A-B roll editing suites were mind bogglingly complicated and tightly scheduled. I am not and was not a professional, just a hobbyist using the facilities of the local cable access channel. If I did everything myself: planning, shooting and editing, it required an average of 10 hours of my time for each minute of finished video. Hope that helps you and others that might read this to appreciate the power of these tools you have at your disposal now. Excellent! You explanation of combining the wiring diagram with the EasyStart directions is just what I needed to install the EasyStart that I bought TWO YEARS AGO!
Love your videos. I had a 14 ft custom toy hauler made for the two of us and our two large dogs. The one thing I insisted on was the Easy start being installed so we can use our a/c with our inverter, and our inverter generator. We have solar, 300ah lithium battery, and 3000 watt inverter generator. This will help keep the dogs cool on those hot and muggy days here in Ohio. Keep up the good work.
I installed a MicroAir Easy Start in the 13.5k Dometic AC on my RPod, and it works fantastically! I have a 2200W Westinghouse generator that starts and runs the AC just fine... even with the generator in Eco mode! If you want to run your camper/RV AC off of a small portable generator, the Easy Start is TOTALLY WORTH IT.
@@CharRichardson Usually no. Figure out the output of your generator in watts. Smaller ones are usually 1800 or 1600W. A 13500BTU AC unit will usually draw 1500-1700W. You won't have anything left to run much else.

just installed our easy start... only 95 degrees on the roof of the RV... but worth it ! Honda 2000 starts & runs the A/C, will run on eco mode with slightly elevated throttle... thanks again for the great instructions !!
David, thank you for your MicroAir Easy Start 364 detailed installation video! I just finished successfully installing mine by pausing your video at each step on my phone while on the roof of my travel trailer. My AC is the exact same one as yours so other than having to work around my solar panel, installation was a breeze. Watching your video was much better than trying to read the itty bitty text on the paper that came with my Micro-Air. I'm using a Champion dual-fuel 2000 watt generator on LPG and it works great with the Micro-Air 364 to start my AC or run the microwave. Love not having to carry gas around in the bed of my truck. Safe travels and thanks again!
I'm almost positive that my PhD that I do possess had to come into play to understand what he was saying. I'm give a thumbs up because he seems extremely intelligent. 👍
Thank you for making this video. Well done, instructions were easy to follow. I installed mine today, and could not believe my eyes. I went from 37 starting amps to 6.4. My Ac now starts with my little Honda 2000 generator in eco mode.
I just installed this unit on my RV today and it has the exact same setup as the one in this video. I just followed each of his steps and it works like a champ!! Thanks for the video as it was a great help!!
I feel compelled to point out that capacitors can retain a high voltage charge for hours after being disconnected from the power source. Wearing jewellery, especially gold, is incredibly dangerous when performing any type of electrical maintenance ... You are a competent DIY'er but that was a considerable oversight. Stay safe!
David is a good guy, and a wealth of knowledge. But perhaps in this instance he should have showed how to check for voltage with a meter, and mentioned how to Safely and Slowly discharge them.
In this application of the capacitor as a start and run capacitor, the charge is immediately dissipated by the compressor motor. Yes, be safe, but in this instance there will be no charge in those capacitors
I finally installed this this morning, although I've had the Easy Start for a couple of months. Your directions were exactly what I needed and your wiring schematic is exactly the same as mine! One thing to note, my Easy Start came with spade connectors already installed on the wires that need them, a logical and nice addition! I was able to make room on the back wall to mount the unit with screws but had to relocate the existing ground wire for it to fit. After the installation and starting it 5 times as outlined, I plugged my shore cord into the outlet I installed that goes to the inverter, turned on the inverter and then turned on the air conditioner. My 400Ah of LiFePo4 batteries and 2000w Renogy Pure Sine Wave inverter started and ran the Air Conditioner! It was drawing about 100amps from the batteries initially, then settled to 83amps as the solar panels started to charge the batteries simultaneously before I turned it off. I get about 30amps peak charging so I should be able to run the air about 5 hours (70A x 5 hrs = 350Ah) before being concerned about having enough amps for night time needs.
Very easy to understand instructions. Currently we use a window unit that came in our hideout and main reason was because we can use a small inverter to run it. When we switch to a new trailer this video will work perfectly. Thank you
You are like the perfect combination of a Master Electrician and Tech Writer. The solar system on your RV is so complex but you made it look so easy. If video technical documentation was a thing.....You would be a top voice in the field.
Great tutorial! Just did this install on my Dometic 15K BTU, was a bit different in appearance, but basically the same procedure. Product works exactly as described, starts and runs my AC on a 2KW Yamaha suitcase. Amazing.
Thanks for the video. Very nice. I have heard of these easy start devices yet used the opposite approach to cooling with a generator. My 26 foot cargo trailer conversion has R23 insulation and is cooled by a 5000 btu window unit cleverly hidden away. I was suprised to discover the cheap A/C I purchased has some sort of soft-start capabilty built in so I can run it with my Honda Eu1000 generator. Everyone said I was crazy over-insulating but I love the result. If you remodel...think thick insulation! It is also very quiet inside. I paid a lot for my cargo trailer yet...it is depreciating very slowly and I am happily living in it. Of couse the conversion is never finished...my work continues.
Excellent video, I am a Master Electrician by trade and your instructions were perfect. I would try to secure the Soft Start box with some sheet metal screws as the tape may not hold in the extreme weather conditions that it will experience on your RV's roof, heat, moisture. I enjoy your channel very much, keep up the good work!
You should always be careful when dealing with capacitors. The capacitor will drain naturally over time if allowed to remain de-energized but you should never rely on this. the capacitor should be shorted across the common and it's other terminal/terminals. An insulated screwdriver should be used and care should be taken not to introduce yourself into the circuit.
AlHutchings aww man, was hoping to see the "twist wires clockwise", I'm trolling comment'ry for this. Lol This product is awesome and a great installation!
I’m surprised you didn’t mention not using electrical tape instead of shrink tubing lol. Look at the white wire at about 8:40 give or take. As an electrician I teach the apprentices to always use shrink tubing if possible
I was so happy to watch this video. Prior to your introduction to the Micro-Air easy start I had no idea such a product existed. I have a 5th wheel with 2 AC units and thought the only way I could run my AC(s) while boon docking was to haul around a very noisy 50amp generator. I'll be buying a quite Honda gen set and I now have a 50amp generator for sale if anyones interested. LOL.
Nicely done video, straight to the point and very professional! I used it to install my Easy Start today. The only thing that through me for a loop was that our Coleman has a heat pump, so I contacted Micro Air to see where the black wire from the compressor should be tied into, since our black wire was not spliced together with the purple one. MicroAir said to splice our black wire from the compressor into the black wire that is going into our outdoor temp relay. Just did our 5 setup runs and it works beautifully. Thanks for putting together such an easy to follow video. Take care and safe travels!
I watched your video, purchased a unit with your code, just installed the unit and ran my Honda 2000i. It ran great. Great video of instruction and made the install simple. Thanks
You lost me at flux capacitor :). But my husband followed everything you were saying. Very well done. Your directions were very clear. And I will add that you both are much more comfortable in front of the camera than when you first started filming. Keep up the great work!
Well done!!!! You were very clear in your instructions and explanation- even a newbie like me was able to understand and follow along with what you were showing. GREAT JOB. Hugs and kisses from the Bahamas.
Again this was an outstanding video. This particular unit/wiring is on many different RV's, and David shows how easy it is to do a quick and clean install. Thanks again!!!
You sir are awesome. My two a/c’s are exactly the same as yours. With the help of your video here, I installed two Easy Starts in a matter of twenty minutes. Both work great. Thank you for this easy description of what to do.
Wow! We just bought one of these and installed it on our air conditioning unit. We are planning a winter trip to an LTVA in Arizona soon, but know that every once in a while you'll get a hot day when you least expect it . . . and I'm not a lover of heat, lol! My husband has great foresight and is very considerate of my comfort. He's a keeper!!
What size AC unit can it work on? I need to buy a 6,000 BTU portable one in my abandoned bus. And can it run it for 12 hours daily? How much gas will it use for that duration?
Great video! Just what we needed, funny how you showed this not a week after we had issues with our setup. Just ordered a unit!!!! If I have problems in the install I will have to watch this again....and most likely again.... Then I'll message you for help!! I know how to turn on light switches and that is about it when it comes to power. Thanks for making it look like something I can do!!
There is another one under a different brand for under $100 and it does the same thing.. Of course me having a strong electronics background I built mine from an arduino and some support hardware for under $30 but I dont reccomend that unless you know what you are doing because of the whole line voltage thing etc..
David, your instructions were very detailed and easy to understand..conceptually. I certainly will use your video guidance when my day comes. I hope your critters love the cool air-conditioned home as much as you & Jenni. Y'all are amazing and very inspirational for this dreamer and future full-time RV'er! Don't know where you are but I hope you were able to visit your bro. Catch up with you next week, dee
Thank you! I've watched several different videos on installing the soft-starter and yours is BY FAR the easiest to follow, understand, and see what has to be done. My unit is supposed to arrive in about a week, and I can't wait to get at it. You da man!
Third time watching this. Will definitely get this device in the future. These kinds of how to’s with your very logical displays of needed tools, etc. and very descriptive installation procedures are so helpful! Keep up the great work David!
Do you have an electronics background? You are really, really good at explaining electronics. Keep doing your thing… you’re a really valuable resource for the rest of us.
Awesome! What generator do you have? We love that our 2200 watt generator can start our Coleman A/C, we used to have to lug around a 3500 watt generator and boy that thing was LOUD! You're welcome Scott 👍
I'm with AlHutchings on the tape limitations :-) I've used 3M and other commercial brands of outdoor tape rated for 30 lbs and found that hot and cold cycling along with vibration will break the bond over time.
This looks like a great product, and you illustrated the install nicely! I was surprised they didn't include the pre -work step of 'discharging the capacitors to ground'. Even with shore power disconnected, a capacitor can sometimes be charged and 'bite' you in my experience. Glad you didn't get bit! : )
Great production value, GREAT AUDIO and most of all, great information! Thanks for producing such an informative video. I ordered my Eastystart BEFORE I saw your video, so no chance to claim the $25 discount, but this video was sure worth it.
Predator 3500-watt Super Quiet Inverter Generator for $679.99 Weights 120 total, Im 66yrs old and can lift it in and out of my pu. However I dont take it out I park by my RV and when in side you cant hear it over the AC unit. Im happy with it.
Thank much! Love your videos. I actually was watching this specifically because I have Coleman Mach A/C's on my travel trailer, and wanted to see what was going to be involved before I pulled the trigger. Looks a lot less intimidating than I thought it might be. Then realized you had a promo code too. Ordered them just after watching the video and saved $50.00. Quite awesome! Even with shipping, it still beat Amazon's price by over $80!
I just bought the Micro Air 364! I used the FATE promo code at checkout. Thank you so much. I have to replace the fan capacitor so I decided it's time to add the soft start.
I had to come back and watch this vid and probably again. I just bought my first travel trailer, Winnebago 2106DS, and am ready to start my boondocking experiences. Thanks for the informative vids.
Good Video, well done. I have no RV and no real reason to watch, but from the start you were doing a very good job, so I kept watching and learned something, nice. Like I said, well done.
You give me hope! I have a 3500 Predator that started smoking when I tried to start the air conditioner. Scared me to death. Luckily I turned it off in time so it wasn’t hurt 😢. Lol I’m going buy one! Now I need to figure how to get on the roof of my RV!
This video is being posted on other RV sites on FB. Never knew about the easy start until I watched your video. Thinking of installing even to lower the draw when plugged in at RV park.
Just installed mine today, these things are AWESOME. So today i wanted to test it and see what it could do. I am able to run all my lights (including external), my tv, amazon dot, wifi ranger, dlink security camera, my refrigerator (using electric) and the AC wide open and fan on high, using my Westinghouse 2200XLI in eco mode. for 5 HOURS (1.5 gallons), all though it was a little cooler today so did not have to cycle the AC as often, it still had the camper at 60 degrees. I guess my point is, while having more fuel would be nice if the AC has to run more on a hotter day, the generator was able to handle ALL of it with out any issues with the easy start installed
Excellent install video, very clean edits and easy for the viewer to follow. You earned another subscriber! I also own a Westinghouse iGen2500. I use it with my 10 circuit transfer switch at my home for an emergency power backup source. It is easy to start, quiet, and very fuel efficient as you mentioned.
I watched this installed several times and you did an excellent job explaining. Like always.... It sure seems like a must for any RV’er that wants to boondock and not be using larger generators. So why doesn’t the Dometic (for example) use that type on the factory a/c. It doesn’t make sense to me. Why wouldn’t they want to sell it and advertise that you could use a small inverter generator on their products. I don’t get that. No warranty issues from installing an EasyStart? It is a must have to me but seems that it should be an option at the beginning????? Thanks again for your help..
My Airstream dealership will install them on the factory Dometic's but.....it will void the warranty even if it's done by a factory service center. Very frustrating as I will probably install them myself saving down time and money. Seems very straight forward but I hate the fact that no matter who completes the install the AC warranty is voided immediately. I concur with your comment. Less amps to kick the starter and compressor to me means less wear and tear on the components yielding a longer life span on those components.
Thank you for the excellent instructional video. I was tentative about cutting into the AC wiring on my brand new RV but this step-by-step worked great!
Great video! You made it seem simple..I have an electrician brother-in-law and I alwaya tell him those schematics are a bunch of vodoo! However, your explination was so clear, I might attempt something like this myself! Thanks and happy rv-ing!
Wow....one video just answered about 20 questions! Very good thanks for saving me a TON of research. We love your videos. Also enjoyed the radio show!!!
I think there is something that can alert your phone if your a/c goes out. I heard of someone who had this. Just in case they were gone and their fur babies were in the camper.
David has come along way in rving.quickly. I can't help but be impressed. Quick study isn't he.Great idea and the quality of your video is excellent. Hd? Wow. Impressed again. Peace friends. Happy trails.
I would suggest following the manufacturers suggestion and mounting the EasyStart outside the connection space. I'm not sure if the ones shipped now with the clear cover are bigger. The ones I received did not fit in the space, but mounted easily just below the wire entry grommet. They supply plenty of wire to neatly route them. Also it would be helpful to have some butyl sealant tape handy instead of reusing the old sealant.
I would get an extra measure of support holding the easy start in place, if it falls on capacitor it can cause serious havoc. A capacitor stores electricity, therefore metal or wires crossing can be dangerous. You did great explaining install, I really enjoy your channel, hope all is well, Dave
Clear and informative as usual. Is there a reason why you don't connect it to the solar converter instead the generator to keep everything solar based?

just installed our easy start... only 95 degrees on the roof of the RV... but worth it ! Honda 2000 starts & runs the A/C, will run on eco mode with slightly elevated throttle... thanks again for the great instructions !!
@Pointhunter75 13.5... and sometimes not enuf for our puma 25tfs, but we are outside most of the time, now we can run the A/C with the Honda 2K....
Outstanding video, David and Jenni!! Many thanks for your support and for that of your viewers.
Trying to open your site but it keeps failing
If you add this, can you run the AC on automatic so that it can kick on and off?
It's all a foreign language to most people.
Thank you for making this video. Well done, instructions were easy to follow. I installed mine today, and could not believe my eyes. I went from 37 starting amps to 6.4. My Ac now starts with my little Honda 2000 generator in eco mode.
That's awesome! We love ours too, it starts our AC with our Honda eu2200i no problem 👍
Stay safe!
Yes this video made me very nervous. Every time his hand came close.
Rule number one with dealing with high voltage. SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY!
Yeah was expecting a quick shock, I'd just grab proper gloves and of course remove jewelry.
Yes, I always short out the terminals of each capacitor
Absolutely!!!
Being from the south, an AC has been my primary concern with off the grid living. This product looks like a perfect solution.
AlHutchings should the capacitor be drained before the white wire that goes to the R connection on the compressor is pulled? 6:28
@@georgeandrews2839 Should be a 15k ohm resistor not 15000 uf as UF is capacitance. I am sure you know but miss typed. Tom
Thanks
That's awesome Bob! Thanks for using out code it helps support the channel. I'm glad it works great and our information was helpful 👍
I’m envious of what a techy you are, David. Great work, brother.
Haha thanks Chris!!
Really like how you explain everything and show exact steps as you progress through your projects ! Great video
You lost me at flux capacitor :). But my husband followed everything you were saying. Very well done. Your directions were very clear. And I will add that you both are much more comfortable in front of the camera than when you first started filming. Keep up the great work!
Will this work with dilithium crystals? :-)
LOL it was easy to follow but admittedly brought thoughts of "Back to the Future" for a min😂
Hahaha yeah there's a lot of technical talk in videos like that. Thank you Kitty that's a really nice compliment!
Well done!!!! You were very clear in your instructions and explanation- even a newbie like me was able to understand and follow along with what you were showing. GREAT JOB. Hugs and kisses from the Bahamas.
Oh I know, David has extremely wonderful videos and their ALL like this, incredible!!! Very intelligent guy!!!
Wow....you are one freaky fan. Kinda odd TBH. Reply on every positive comment with your own???? Very odd indeed.
I am thinking this is a "must have" for boondocking in an RV...Very thorough video...Nice job David!!
I sure agree with you!!
Micro-Air loves these guys and how David installed on the Coleman on his rig. Very professional.
Just Put mine in Awesome !!! My Generac IQ 2000 will run my AC Easy install and a huge difference
We installed ours earlier this summer. Loving it. Little pricey but I would buy it again for our dogs... and us, who am I kidding.
Catch up with you next week,
dee
Thanks for the video. Just ordered mine using the FATE discount and the discount still works. Thank you again and keep up the good work.
Thank you! I've watched several different videos on installing the soft-starter and yours is BY FAR the easiest to follow, understand, and see what has to be done. My unit is supposed to arrive in about a week, and I can't wait to get at it. You da man!
Top Notch explanation of this soft start, I just bought this for my rv, thanks for your time!!!
Third time watching this. Will definitely get this device in the future. These kinds of how to’s with your very logical displays of needed tools, etc. and very descriptive installation procedures are so helpful! Keep up the great work David!
You guys videos keep getting better and better. Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely agree!!
Do you have an electronics background? You are really, really good at explaining electronics. Keep doing your thing… you’re a really valuable resource for the rest of us.
Thank you Ann! And no I don't, I have just learned all this over time. My background is in mechanical engineering.
Finally got mine installed. Dometic Brisk II is a different animal and rain doesn't help. Thanks again Davy for all your help.
Awesome! What generator do you have? We love that our 2200 watt generator can start our Coleman A/C, we used to have to lug around a 3500 watt generator and boy that thing was LOUD! You're welcome Scott 👍
@@FateUnbound Well, we have a Champion Dual Fuel 3500. Rolls nice and easy up and down the ramp of the Toy Hauler.
I'm with AlHutchings on the tape limitations :-) I've used 3M and other commercial brands of outdoor tape rated for 30 lbs and found that hot and cold cycling along with vibration will break the bond over time.
Well done David! You make me so proud! You may want to add the cleaning of your AC condenser while you have the cover off. Love you Guys!
Thanks Dad! That's a good point, mine was actually already super clean, probably because I rarely ever run it haha. We love you too!!
I was thinking the same thing.
Capacitors can pop you even with the power unplugged. But maybe these self-discharge.
@@bensonwills8287 I thought that also when he started tapping the top of the capacitor with his fingers.
Very well done and clearly explained. Great job! I'll be sure to recommend it when anyone asks about the EasyStart. Cheers!
Great production value, GREAT AUDIO and most of all, great information! Thanks for producing such an informative video. I ordered my Eastystart BEFORE I saw your video, so no chance to claim the $25 discount, but this video was sure worth it.
You are an excellent instructor...you made me think even I can do this ...Thanks for the help
I know, David is GREAT, isn't he?!!?
This video clearly demonstrates why I'm dragging my feet on installing an EasyStart device myself
Excellent presentation and explanation brother... I am definitely going to do this...
Learn something new everyday. Good work on the install instructions!
Additional question. When you did your 5 test/learn starts, did you use a 30 amp circuit, or a house 15amp outlet?
A great mod, David; very clear directions and demo. So pleased it's everything y'all wanted/needed; keep us informed. Be Safe!
Thanks! We love that it lets us start our air conditioner with our small generator!
Oh yes I agree completely!!
Nice couple! Equally balanced in sharing responsibilities and knowledge. Seems like you guys have a great foundation for a lasting partnership!
Thanks, you've made these instructions very easy to understand and follow.
That would not be a easy install for most people..but you def made it look easy...way to go!
Very good install video, now I need to buy one. There are a few weeks a year we need our AC in the late afternoon while boondocking.
I just bought the Micro Air 364! I used the FATE promo code at checkout. Thank you so much. I have to replace the fan capacitor so I decided it's time to add the soft start.
Awesome! We love ours so hopefully yours works just as well for you!
I had to come back and watch this vid and probably again. I just bought my first travel trailer, Winnebago 2106DS, and am ready to start my boondocking experiences. Thanks for the informative vids.
No time to watch this entire video. But I'm saving it. Great concept. Thank you for posting.
Excellent instruction, David. Micro-Air should include your video with their unit.
Thanks for the video on the install. I ordered ours today will be installing next week.
I totally agree!
@@Couplescience Thx! I think you meant to reply to NonRev :-) I hope that your issues was fixed.
Awesome Brian! Glad this was helpful 😊
I will be installing mine next week. What make and model of AC do you have?
You have some of the most helpful videos. Thanks!
Boy oh boy, you can say that again!!!
Great video! You made it seem simple..I have an electrician brother-in-law and I alwaya tell him those schematics are a bunch of vodoo! However, your explination was so clear, I might attempt something like this myself! Thanks and happy rv-ing!
Thanks! It was a very straight forward install, if you do it and have any questions feel free to ask. Happy travels to you too!
I can't believe what I just learned from you! AMAZING.
This is a great video. I used it to install mine a few weeks ago. My Honda 2000 started my 13.5 a/c and ran it in 100°
That's awesome! Glad you like it.
-David
Wow....one video just answered about 20 questions! Very good thanks for saving me a TON of research. We love your videos.
Also enjoyed the radio show!!!
I agree with you!
I think there is something that can alert your phone if your a/c goes out. I heard of someone who had this. Just in case they were gone and their fur babies were in the camper.
grateful1929 - likely an HVAC alarm that sends you text hourly.
We have been enjoying all your videos on everything and learning so much from them.
David has come along way in rving.quickly. I can't help but be impressed. Quick study isn't he.Great idea and the quality of your video is excellent. Hd? Wow. Impressed again. Peace friends. Happy trails.
Amazing, congratulations on one of the best information you've provided to us all who actually care about, Thanks a million for sharing.!!!
David, you are the Man, to figure that thing out. Good job!
Absolutely!!!!
Well done. Very well described, with easy to follow video and explanation
I would get an extra measure of support holding the easy start in place, if it falls on capacitor it can cause serious havoc. A capacitor stores electricity, therefore metal or wires crossing can be dangerous. You did great explaining install, I really enjoy your channel, hope all is well, Dave
Hi guys after 3 yrs the 364 is fantastic I m been using a new generator the Champion Inverter 2500..economic and quiet..
Very well done! Clear and concise! Thanks!
I absolutely agree with you!
Very good job David explaining how to hook it up. I think I could even do something like that with my limited knowledge. Safe travels my friend.
Absolutely!!
Clear and informative as usual. Is there a reason why you don't connect it to the solar converter instead the generator to keep everything solar based?
