    Y'know what I love about the Caribbean? Our cultures overlap in such a way that it allows us to have the same or similar dishes but they are still really different.

    • @amyahs.6479
      @amyahs.6479 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      oh k
      1. You should rethink how you stated that, it comes across as very confrontational and it's almost like you're insinuating my ancestors asked Europeans to enslave and practically kill off an entire civilisation then sardine pack us on to a ship and enslave us for many, many years.
      2. Not where i'm from, but i wish we did because i know quite a few people with some Amerindian blood who know nothing about their ancestors besides what we learn from history books and i don't know any full blooded or even half or quarter Amerindians. The most we do is call the countries by their original names but we don't do it often. I wish i could do something about that, maybe i will, but for now i'm just a teenage girl behind a computer screen.
      3. Why'd you assume i'm black, i mean i am, but still, the Caribbean is a melting pot remember?

    The best and most unique way to enjoy a Presidente beer is how Dominicans describe it, vestida de novia, while dressed in a white wedding gown. What that means It should be consumed close to or just before freezing point, straight out of an ice frosted bottle in the middle of a hot humid summer day. Dominicans are the only ones who have refined the art of drinking the real Ice Cold Beer. No one else has been able to match it.

    why do they keep calling plantains a banana. they're not the same thing! lol god damn\
    even tho im not dominican (im panamanian) i assume my exposure to a lot of dominican food helped me know what these things were but at the same time, i feel they're in panamanian culture too lol. it just kinda blew my mind that there are other latinos who don't know what plantains are or queso blanco or sancocho is xD like ***boom*** mind blown. i thought these ingredients were universal within the community just dressed up in different ways. the more u know **rainbow***

      Plantain in spanish is plátano and banana in spanish is also plátano, I'm mexican and all my life in my family "plátano" was used for banana :)
      But you're right, they're different but not a lot, Plátano (banana) is the sweet fruit, and Plátano (plantain) is not that sweet, I've tried them both, like argentine asado isn't the same thing like the mexican asado, the problem's not everyone is caribbean :S

      In Puerto Rico banana is called "guineo"(the fruit),and the other is platano

    • @kayleesalmeron9783
      @kayleesalmeron9783 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, both bananas and plantains can be equally sweet, as it just depends on how ripe they are. I'm Spanish and everyone I know calls bananas, bananas and plantains, platanos.

      @Jessicaisrealawesome 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah bro what do you call a regular banana in Panama? Because in a lot of Hispanic countries, plátano just means all curvy fruit. Green or yellow. Then it's divided into types. i.e in Mexico- Plátano Chiapas = regular banana. Plátano macho= plantains. If you say "plátano", the default meaning is regular cavendish banana before you specify type.

      the main thing is that we all (Caribbeans) get our background from Africa(most dominicans have ancestry in the congo and tribes int south africa.) and taino/caribe tribes so its way more similar than other Hispanic countries ethnically but we still each have our own unique culture. fyi platano actually comes from africa and was brought in the slave trade. and yuca is a taino staple thoroughly embedded in the culture and religion of the tribe

      dee nunyofukinbidness im sorry but everyone knows pr dr and cuba align with latin america than rest of carribean. Rest of carribean is meaningless and even dominicans know this thats why they align more with latin america. Better profits. Ooo we have same background?? Excuse me not everyone is black. Again please its obvious ur raised in usa with ur afro centric bullshit. End of the day dr pr and cuba are align with latin america its rest of carribean and blk american who are begging to get accepted by us and worship latinos like gods

    We have milk and orange juice in the U.S. I had it as a kid and we called it a creamsicle. I know there's a popsicle called creamsicle too, but I mean the drink made by mixing milk and orange juice. Tastes like a creamsicle, so that's why we call it that. I grew up in a French-Canadian family. I love that the Dominicans drink it too. That's so cool.
