Hey, in South America we are all south americans, latino is just a word to describe groups of people that speak one of the roman languages and live in those latin countries. Brazilians don't have clue that they are, but it's a fact. (Sorry for my english)

From my personal perspective, I have a lot of brazilian friends who don't consider themselves latinos, the big majority to be honest, so Brazil it's divided between people who consider themselves latinos and people who doesn't so it's logical that people outside Brazil are confused, because not even brazilians get their thoughts together.

    Guys, learn the difference:
LATIN COUNTRIES: All EUROPEAN countries whose mother tongue derives from ancient Latin (Portugal, Spain, Andorra, France, Monaco, Italy, San Marino, Romania, Moldova, French-speaking parts of Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg and Italian-speaking part of Switzerland).
LATINO COUNTRIES: (The word "Latino" in English refers STRICTLY to Latin America as opposed to "Latin" which refers only to European countries). Latino countries not only include all Spanish-speaking countries, it also includes Brazil (speaks Portuguese), Haiti (speaks French) and even Canada (only the French-speaking part, though).
HISPANIC COUNTRIES: This is strictly for Spanish-speaking countries, so it naturally excludes Brazil, Haiti and French Canada. Spain, a European country, is obviously a Hispanic country since it's where the language comes from. Equatorial Guinea in Africa can also be considered a Hispanic country since it speaks Spanish.
LUSOPHONE COUNTRIES (often overshadowed by Hispanic countries but they do have an important place in the world): This is strictly for any country that speaks Portuguese, that is, Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tomé & Principe and East Timor. The ex-colony of Macau in China can also be considered a Lusophone region.
Last but not least: LATINO and HISPANIC are NOT a race! The US keeps perpetuating this mistake. Being Latino or Hispanic is merely a cultural aspect. Latinos and Hispanics come in all shapes and races.

We all speak a Latin-based language, we have common Iberian roots, we're all mixed with native peoples and Africans, we have similar cultures and cultural expressions, etc. The only issue is that Brazilians speak Portuguese so they get a little isolated. You put all on a pot on medium heat and stir until the misture is not sticking to the bottom anymore. Put on a plate and let it cool, make the ball with your hands with butter on then and put it on a place with sprinkles (but honestly we usually eat from the plate with a spoon)

As a Brazilian, I think you guys should try Ethiopian food. It's just incredible.
But yes, along with these very traditional Brazilian foods, we have some more similar to Hispanic gastronomy (e.g. pamonha/tamales, canjica/flan, churrasco/parillada, pastel/empanada, escondidinho/pastel de choclo) and some very exotic ones, mostly of African or Native American origin (e.g. acarajé, bobó, moqueca, farofa, tapioca, açaí, cocada, quindim, tacacá, tucupi, maniçoba...).
Brazilian food comes in so many shapes and spices that most Brazilians have never tasted local food from the North or from the Northeast, actually. As an example, açaí has been around in the North for centuries, usually eaten as a savory dish with meat, but only in the past decade or so did it become a "superfood" served sweet in a fruit bowl.

Brazil is a mixing pot of lots different ethnicity, for me I am part Italian which shows up a lot in my skin color. I don't look "latina", which becomes problem when I move to America. Keep in mind this when communicating with foriners, that I may look European, but I am terrible at my american accent, which confuses people often kkkkk 😂😂 Edit: I also have a friend who is fully German but has lived in Brazil her entire life and only knows portuguese. We went to New York City a few summer ago (I did not know as much english) so when we had traveled, we take my other friend who is very good at english. However, he looked the most "Brazilian" out of us, so when communicating, people often came to me and my German friend first. It is funny because I had no idea what they had said kkkkk

Actually if you are male you say obrigado, and if you are female you say obrigada. That's because obrigado literally translates to "obligated", and it originally means that if someone does something nice for you, you are not only thankful but you also feel obligated to return the favour. Since it's a verb, it changes the suffix according to gender.

Just a small thing: it's Pão de queijo, not Pau. Pão = Bread; Pau in Portuguese can mean two things: a piece of wood or a slang for penis. And yes, they taste like heaven.
