    This shows that the Koreans have between the EV6 and the Iconiq5 pretty much killed it. The GMP platform seems to have so much more than the other platforms including that from Tesla and I suspect they will have a relatively cheap price in comparison to it peers in the CUV EV market.
    I kind of think that tesla has met it match. What I think we need is essentially for the EV to come of age is cheaper cars with the same range but less glamour and more importantly the sort of hot hatch which is a superb driving dynamics. I was hoping that would be the Renault Sport ?alpine Zoe or Megane sized vehicle but simply put I doubt I see any other manufacturer match this in terms of style and economy.

      @@huss1205 It is at the moment for equivalent car; for example the pre-government allowance price for the lowest spec Ionic 5 is 35K pounds while the UK price for the standard range is currently quoted at 39K. Not much in it , about 20% across the range and in the 50K price people will generally buy on design and heart.
      I have a Tesla, and I certainly take a look at this, it is innovative in the same way Tesla are.

    • @adrianguggisberg3656
      @adrianguggisberg3656 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@huss1205 The base Model Y starts at 60k€ according to Tesla Germany Website. The base Model IONIQ 5 LR AWD (with almost identical specs in terms of performance) starts at 50k€ according to the Hyundai Germany Website configurator. You can also get an very similarly speced AWD version with the small battery (which requires about one hour of total charging time for the 1000km/600mi trip) for about 45k€ and an RWD version with the small battery for 41k€. In terms of Price, the Ioniq 5 definitely has a clear edge. Another thing in favour of the Hyundai are the rear seats. They are great. The rear seats of the Model Y are, in my opinion, intolerable for such a large car at a 60k opening bid. There are of course advantages to the Model Y as well, such as longer range, more cargo space, etc.

However, overall, it is a brilliant car and definitely a worthy contender to the Tesla. The appeal for the average person though will be limited by budget, and this is in the Premium sector for me. Toyota has made an EV model recently, it's bad...

    • @jillthompson6110
      @jillthompson6110 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Toyota concentrated on Hybrid cars. They didn't believe in EV's. The head of Toyota even complained bitterly to the Japanese government about being forced to make EV's. Japan is a country that hates any kind of change. That's why their companies and banks still rely on floppy drives, faxes/stamps, and most Japanese workers get their first training on computers when they get hired on by the companies because over half of the Japanese don't even own computers. Everyone wrongly thinks that Japan is some kind of future tech oriented country, when that's furthest from the truth.

    A very important safety feature that Hyundai has left out is a rear wiper.... especially when driving on a motorway with heavy rain you can't see out the back window.... this is very poor mistake by Hyundai standards....

    Sacrificing a rear wiper in favour of 'sleekness' sounds a bit daft to me, especially in the rainy UK.

    A cool and sleek design, if you are going to complain about the materials used check what you are wearing first, then mention that recycled materials are used together with plant based paints.

    I believe the interior materials had a focus on recycled materials, right? That'd be why the steering wheel vinyl and other plastic qualities are bad.

    Really great looking car this. Just kinda wish the Hyundai badge wasn't so large on the bonnet. Maybe should have been on the black strip between. Or maybe break ioniq into its own sub brand with a new logo to avoid any brand snobbery

    Been watching about 5 or 6 reviews on the Iconic 5 now, they are all very positive. Hyundai and Kia really are showing the rest how's it's done, this is a great all round package with pretty amazing tech specs available too! For the money other brands should be worried. I think the newer CUV market is going to be the next vehicle boom, such as the SUV has been in recent years. Something tells me we may find Hyundai and Kia leading the pack Wen it comes to cars that are all round packages rather than cars that are superior in one particular field.
