    We're big fans of Hyundai's electric cars, but even we would admit that the company has been a bit hamstrung by not having a bespoke EV and fashionable styling. That's changed with the Ioniq 5.
    It's based on a brand new platform that's been built purely for EVs, so there's none of the downsides which you find with some other electric cars when it comes to space and efficiency. And then there's the styling - it's all very 80s with its sharp creases and parametric lights.
    It has a range of nearly 300 miles (some versions) and has 800V charging so it's on the money in terms of usability. But is it all form and no function? Ginny Buckley finds out

    A lot of people insert magnets into their phone cases to easily mount and dismount their phone on their dash… it’s so funny to me that every review of this car doesn’t understand the brilliance of the magnet on the dash.

      @TaylorOwen TheStraightPipes literally tried doing that and it isn't strong enough to hold a phone. It's funny to me that you think that something works theoretically without actually considering it practically

      @@TaylorOwen The heck does this have to do with experience? We're not talking about dash-mounted magnets sold as consumer products which you install yourself. We're talking about the magnet in the Ioniq 5 and whether it can hold your phone. So unless you have an Ioniq 5 I don't think you're speaking from experience. I'm saying if anyone is wondering whether the magnet in the Ioniq is strong enough to hold a phone - there's literally a youtube video showing that it cannot. Where exactly did you see the Ioniq 5 magnet support a phone?? Or are you assuming that it does?

    Is the styling really marmite on the Ioniq 5? I thought almost everyone loved it - I certainly do. One of very few cars in production that would interest me purely on styling, but the technology and engineering are hugely impressive too.
    The one thing that Hyundai's EVs haven't really nailed yet is fun driving. Hopefully the N version fixes that - or maybe it's just not a reasonable expectation for a mid-price crossover.

    And can it's sat nav show you all the charging stations in your trip planner and does it even have a trip planner?
    For their longest range version with plenty of bells and things it really needs to have these things and more or they just send customers into the arms of Tesla.

    My parking space is tiny and the driver's side door is very close to the wall, so I usually enter and exit from the passenger side, like she did here. I have an ID3 and it's pretty easy to do, although it's not completely open like the Ionic 5. At least there's no gear lever to stick up my bum.

    In my opinion, it is a big mistake that the rear window does not have a windscreen wiper - several test drives in the rain also reinforced my assessment.

    • @YannR34
      @YannR34 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I only had very few cars in my life with rear wiper and I almost never used it, but it was ugly all the time. My last 3 cars didn't have one and it was perfect like this. Plus it adds some air drag which is bad. If you are in a place where it rains all the time, try water repealant, it's just great and you will barely use the front wiper either. It's the best way to deal with windows.

      Rear wipers are so 80's. We have modern chemicals that does it without physical movement.

    • @YannR34
      @YannR34 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep I really think that we should put some wiper on every window. Including sides because it's so difficult to look at the mirrors when it's raining. Actually no, we should have only screens all around, this way no need to clean it up, no sun or rain problem. And if the view is ugly it could be enhanced.
      Waiting for that I will buy a car with a digital central panoramic rear mirror,

    Clearly aimed at the quiet and refined limo-like market. That will suit lots of people. The price of the top spec 4wd big battery with the option packs is circa £48,000 - that's about £20,000 less than an equivalent Audi Q4 e-tron Vorsprung edition, and even several thousand under a top spec VW id4 and neither of those has the super fast 800v charging system.

In southern climate or summer, I do WANT ventilated seats. Also Android Auto, and HUD. Also like reclining seats with foot rest and reclining console for arms rest, all electronic aids especially against collisions, automated parking (Executive version), blind spot cams on dashboard when turning, V2L, sun shades integrated in back doors, sunroof shade, wide space available inside with good visibility through the back window etc. Also 5 year car warranty illimited kms (Max 80 000 for Tesla... Excellent review it could even be my favourite onesy! even with the poptastic puns. 😁

    Hyundai need to relent and fit a rear wiper even As an option , that foil designedto remove water does nothing at town speeds or in traffic, or when you need a clear view to reverse in a downpour

      @@michaellim4165 a number of reasons , but the fact that the water doesn’t clear even after a 10 -15 minute drive (designated the typical travel time for 70 % of users in Europe ,) whether it be 120kph or 20 kph as what’s popping up now means that your struggling to park because you cannot see properly that a quick wipe would fix , heaven forbid it be raining when your reversing down a siding or squeeze into a tight parking spot, where sensors sure useless unlike t these reverse sensors don’t give inch feedback to a stationary object, as for the camera it’s at the bottom of the boot and unprotected so it’s easily gets covered in muck especially in winter making it useless

    Why do so many reviewers point out the used bottle interior? I don't care what it's made of as long as it wears well. A dash made of ground up spotted owl beaks, sign me up if it looks and feels good and last forty years.

    It looks great like the best Italian hatchbacks of old times - only its huge - it's a big car - if you need this space it's great. The interior is....not my taste, it looks to me that they put all design power to the outside, for the inside was nothing left.

    Wonderful looking car, but too complicated for the older generation. By this I mean old fogeys like me are put off from buying EVs that are complicated. All we want is an EV that is practical, that has brakes, indicators and a speedometer-this is what we are used to! Technology is wonderful, but if companies want to sell cars to the older folk, they should think again!
