- If there’s one thing we know for sure, people hate change. They view it as a disruption to their lives and it scares them even if it represents progress. And that’s where we are with electric cars. Now I get it - because it’s part of my job I’ve been driving EVs for a decade - I’ve had time to get comfortable with them and I hope you’ve been watching my electric car reviews where I explain how they work, the pros the cons etc. But like only our country can, EVs have become a political issue. There’s even a braindead, hillbilly politician down south trying to remove public car chargers unless gas and diesel equivalents are installed next to them. Welcome to the USA, 2022. So, my goal is to help you understand why electrics like this awesome Kia EV6 are nothing to be feared. It may not be the right car for you at the moment but for many an EV makes total sense right now.

Ditto . My wife and I both drive EV’s and love them. With our 220V charging outlet at home, we wake up each morning with fully-charged vehicles. It works for us.

Enjoyed the review. I wish someone would talk about how range if affected in extreme heat and not just the cold since I live in Phoenix and our summer temps almost always top 100+ degrees. Also, Ive been watching electric car videos for about three years and I don't think I've ever seen an EV GO or Electrify America charger live up to its stated potential. it doesn't matter what the auto maker claims for charge time if the charger can't perform as advertised. Maybe in a couple of years.
Dear Bill, drive an EV6 AWD 77,7 kWh and with clima set to 21° and outside 38-40° Centigrades last trip we did with 14,8 to 16,8 kWh and got 517 km. Highway here is limited to 120 km/h and we have mountain roads and benefit from perfect recuperation. We mostly charge slowly with 11 kW on 400 Volts. Therefore we plan overnight stops at hotels with infrastructure. However under best condition with fast charger we reached 240 kW. This is definitely due to the unique 800 Volts architecture unique in Porsche Taycan, Audi eTron GT, Hyundai, Genesis and of course Kia EV6. This is just another class and has only Tesla as serious competition. EV6 in a German long range rating got an index of 1,03 (never before any EV got that rating). EQS got only 0,92 and Porsche Taycan and Polestar 2 got 0,90! So here in Europe this car is the measure stick for the legacy brands and with its exclusive dampers and fine tuning by former BMW M Sports boss for 30 years, Albert Biermann, all is said about cornering and drivability. 0-100 km/h (we measure from absolute stop) in 5,2 Seconds and less is also competitive towards Teslas in the same price range.😎🤓😜

I've had the same experience, Bill. Every vid I watched reveals these charge stations never deliver what they advertise. That's disappointing but I think it will change.
It seems like the times you’re quoting for charging are significantly longer than Kia claims (and significantly longer than Car and Driver verifies on their review of the 2023 EV6 Wind). Have these numbers improved from 22 to 23? Also, I’m struggling to figure out which trim levels have a sun/moon roof. Do you happen to know? Thanks for the content!

KIA owner here x3 (our kids have our old 2011 Sportage & 2016 Soul+) - looking for a full EV soon. Husband has the Ford Fusion hybrid; it doesn’t compare to the EV6 or EV9 lineup. Pls do a 4-hr driving vacation tour to give us an idea - we visit in-laws often, expect this EV to be a pleasant surprise. 🍀

There are still millions of people who park their cars outdoors without an outlet or charger nearby. I don't know how apartment complexes are going to adapt in the future to handle this.
Or the power grids. Are we going to be building coal power plants to powers the electric cars?? That has a certain level of irony to it. But seriously we'd need probably 50 nuclear power plants to cover everyone going to electric.
Well the government will pay for putting a charger in everyones garage of course. Just like its paying to put solor panels on houses for free. Of course everybody knows its not free. The tax payer citizens are paying for everything the government "gives" you. And did you know that 58% of the citizens of the USA do not pay ANY federial income tax. So 48% of the citizens are paying for everybody's "free" stuff. But please, please do not take my word for what I just said. Resurch the information for yourself. If you do you might learn something.

After much research on my first EV, this exact configuration of EV6 was for me. Everything won me over. But then I got inside and tried to lower the ‘Tilt' steering wheel and in its lowest setting it was still angled high like a bus! Why doesn’t it tilt down lower? It would bother me every minute I drove it if I purchased it. Why doesn’t Kia make it tilt down more? I had to pass.
My wife's just bought an EV6, & when I first drove it, the angle of the steering wheel bugged me a bit. But after a few miles I forgot about it. So you denied yourself what in our opinion is about the best EV around because of this?

I like the interior of the EV6, and the exterior of the Ioniq5. That would be my ideal combo! Great to see HMG having success with these vehicles, I've seen quite a few in Sydney too.

I was turned on to the EV6 GT about a week ago when looking around at what is out there for EVs now. I'd love to get one, but it's still a bit outside of my comfort zone on the cost, the non GT model spec'd out with a handful of niceties was like $20k more than my slightly used (6-8month old) infiniti q50 hybrid sport. I paid that off early, but I look at the monthly cost of financing one of these and I am afraid that any financial hiccup and I'd be screwed.
To be clear, bought the q50 when it was about 6-8 months old, it was a dealer buyback when the original owner didn't know how to work with the aggressive regen braking.
The EV6 cannot charge at 350kw I see this mistake being made all the time and I blame Hyundai/Kia for this as they say quite correctly that their 800v cars can use 350kw chargers but do not mention the max charge rate for the vehicle is around 240kw there is a caveat though and that is charge rate is dependent on battery temperature so it is important to utilise the preconditioning function now incorporated within the navigation app.

Do the brake lights engage on electric cars with "one pedal drive" mode? To me it's a bad habit to use that if it doesn't trigger brake lights.
In Canada they do. It's a government mandate. I'd expect the US is the same.

It will vary widely but as a rule of thumb think of it as adding about $50 a month, if that.

How much is the fast charger you can install at home? That is critical information. 68 h charging time is unacceptable.
Just put in a ChargePoint home charger. $749 for the charger, $1020 for installation before tax incentives and rebates.
Good video but if you compared this car to something like a chevy cruze it wouldn't be any cheaper for electric to gas and your electric bill would be way higher every month it who wants to travel and wait an hour to charge at a gas station
That's actually false. The annual fuel cost for a 2019 Chevy Cruze is $1,650 while the 2022 Kia EV6 is $600. It costs $2.73 to drive the Cruze 25 miles and only $1.02 to drive the EV6 the same distance. Also, the vast majority of EV owners charge at home so there's never any waiting to charge in public while the Cruze owner has to waste time going to a gas station.
@stevehammes i had a cruze it cost 32 dollars to fill and just watched a guy charge an EV6 for 33.50 and what happens when i travel farther than 250 miles then I'm waiting an hour to charge and why aren't EV's really big in Alaska because cold weather looked what happened in Virginia snowstorm last year the EV died in the cold
Kia doesn’t provide free charging from electrify America. I think you’re talking about VW ID4.
The EV6 comes with 1,000 kWh of charging credits on the Electrify America network, which is equivalent to about 3,000 - 3,500 miles of free driving range.
The EV6 GT is a great one to pick up, until my Tesla Roadster 2.0 is ready for launch🚀

Amazingly, the dashboard layout and controls of the KIA and Hyundai cars are light years ahead of anything from Tesla. The "One control panel to rule them all" concept in most Teslas is HORRENDOUS. No one wants to be flipping back and forth between different controls on one central panel. Whoever came up with that idea should be shot.

When gas goes back to normal, it won’t be x3 the amount to fill up. It cost me about 70 bucks to fill up at Costco using 93 octane in my hellcat.
Great point, it'll only be twice as much. As a hellcat and EV driver the cat only goes out on fun weekend drives and that's not likely to change. All the fun gas-powered rides are becoming more and more of a luxury toy while the EV becomes more of the daily workhorse.
Beyond the price of gasoline itself think of all of the other savings: Oil changes, belts, filters, etc. I have leased an electric car for over a year now and have never spent a dime on service.
@@YODAddyLIVE sweet man! Glad to meet another cat owner who is cool with EV`s as well. I was looking at the EV6 GT prior to ordering the cat, but they dealership lost the sale because they wanted me to buy into their interior/exterior protection package. I test drove the reg EV6 and loved it, but they said it was mandatory, so I bought the cat at 2k under sticker in March when it came in. I’d love to snag a primary EV, but I don’t think the wifey will go for it haha.

@@stevehammes This lack of maintenance has never made sense to me. Unless you're driving German, most cars are really reliable and take very little maintenance.
What's the maintenance cost on an EV going to be 10 years from now? The real answer is we don't know.
Future EV buyers - "What's a tax credit?"
All-electric and plug-in hybrid cars purchased new in or after 2010 may be eligible for a federal income tax credit of up to $7,500. The credit amount will vary based on the capacity of the battery used to power the vehicle. State and/or local incentives may also apply.
@@stevehammes but I'm hearing that is about to change. No foreign made EVs sold in the US will qualify for the $7,500 credit due to the battery materials requirements - based on new legislation. I think even Tesla makes batteries overseas (I'm not sure).

Sorry but this car does NOT qualify for the EV tax credit as its final assembly is not in the US, which is one of te many requirements an EV must have. Hopefully in the future kia will produce this car in the US.
At the time this video was produced, it did. Hyundai-Kia is working with the U.S. government on a solution.

the not mentioned elephant in the room - tesla model 3/y.... much faster, lighter with better handling, and 25% more efficient on top of that.
no need to read up on Electrify America chargers on your phone before every trip - tesla superchargers, their speed and current capacity - are built into a car navigation, one other thing to add is that Electrify America "super" chargers are most of the time very slow, sometimes they are not working and you won't know that until you drive up, and they are always next to a Walmart parking lot :)
You forgot one little tidbit: a comparably equipped Model Y Long Range costs $11,735 more. The EV6 GT-Line AWD is also quicker to 60 mph, has a longer warranty, comes with 3 years of free fast charging and is supported by 777 Kia dealership service centers.
And not to mention the EV6 is much quieter, has a far better ride, while still offering good body control (NVH and ride quality being far more important than handling in a midsize family vehicle that will never see a smooth racetrack). Then there are all the features and tech the Tesla lacks when "comparably equipped" to the EV6, like ventilated seats, HUD, V2L, 360 camera, physical controls for primary functions, Carplay and Android, a shaded roof, etc.
The Tesla has its strengths for sure (though most of those strengths are overblown by the fanboys), and is arguably a better "tech product", but the EV6 is a better car.
and it has V2L ,, you can cook while you camping
Much better looking than a Tesla Y in my opinion.
Telling potential new ev buyers that charging on a regular outlet would take 68 hrs is misleading given that people don't need to fully charge the car in order to actually drive it...unless you commute more than 50 miles in 1 day to work or school, one overnight charge is enough to get you through the next day or 2 for the average person... This is also the reasoning that new ev buyers think they HAVE to have a level 2 charger installed or they'll be stranded....
In general, i think people that review EV's should give a better idea of charging by classifying how many miles you get on an 8 hr charge, with level 1 (standard outlet) and level 2 (240v installed charger) given that if you're at work for 8 hrs or at home for 8 hrs (overnight) it would make for a better measuring stick.
I appreciate your feedback but I stand by my statements and I think I described the entire process very succinctly and accurately.
@@stevehammes i didn't say you were wrong but the number 1 reason that i hear people that don't want to convert to EV is "it takes too long to charge." "I don't want to be stranded" ...they are obviously under the assumption that in order for the car to move the battery needs to be fully charged. This isn't your fault but the message across the board for all EV's in terms of charging still hasn't been delivered as well as it could be....
It's like people measuring the speed of cars as "0-60 in..." That's the standard formula used, so too should EV's carry a formula for the average user such as "0 -50% in 8 hrs" or better yet, "8 hrs gives you x miles". Maybe things will change once every car on the road is an ev and people won't have much of a choice but to buy EV's.
Don't buy the KIA EV6 the mile range is a joke.
I've had the 2023 EV6 GT-Line for 2 monts. I have been getting 222 mile range at 100% charge, I've done this twice which I do once a month at full charge. I only got the 282 mile range when I left the lot and after that I never saw it again.
I actually called KIA and they said the EV6 uses your last driving data to give you the maximum mile range. WTF! My sister has a Tesla and she gets 400 to a full charge and never changes. KIA needs to fix this. It's disappointing to see a 100% charge only at 222 which should be 282., 90% charge is only 186 mile range. Imagine what the 80% charge KIA suggest to charge to. This EV6 GT-Line is not effin cheap. I drive the EV6 GT-Line at 70 mph snell slow and I drive in eco mode. I might end up selling this EV6 GT-Line due to the range not being accurate which really sucks.

My Kia EV6 GT-Line eAWD was brought brand new. When buying EV's you are not buying to save on gas or charge. It's more changing from gas to electric. After driving it these past few months I have realized that it is more of a sport crossover not a crossover vehicle. I am starting to get use to the range of the EV6. I am yet to try a very long trip. My wife and I are planning on doing a 8 hour trip from San Francisco to LA. We'll see how this goes.
One thing I hate about the EV6 is that it uses your last driving to give you how much charge you will get. I guess from others this also happens to other EV like Tesla and other manufacturers.
Just recently I got 250 miles on 100% charge driving at 70 mph, this is due to the warmer weather. I recently drove the EV6 at 75 to 85 and charged at 90% at 222miles. Like a gas vehicle the faster you go the more you will discharge the vehicle.

If they’re seeking a car with a certain mileage it’s only fair that it doesn’t let us down by decreasing it in only few months like that. Are u leasing or financing? I really would like to just lease to see how it feels but I’m kinda leaning towards the sportage plug-in hybrid to have that gasoline to back me up for long trips. It gives me a little anxiety to be thinking of where could I charge. Also it says to try to keep the car between 20%-90% that sounds like an Ev not ready to hold its promises no?
Is it really a problem to do below 20%? Here in Florida we don’t have good fast chargers in good and convenient places. They’re pretty hard to find.

It does not take $90 to fill up an AWD kia Stinger...... plus u went from 30pct, to 80pct.... that's basically a half a tank....
.that wold be about $22 compared to the $17 you spent. But u had to wait over an half hour to charge ur car..... it would take less than two min to fill up half a tank...

Main reason why I don't want an EV is because I don't want to spend hours waiting for hours to charge the car on long freeway trips. The charging network sucks.
Agree. Takes too long to charge and need to charge frequently. Expensive vehicle, timely charging; I'll wait until both improve.
Most people have two cars. Use one for the city and one for long distances. Although, the long distance issue will probably be resolved relatively soon
@@AutoMotivate -- Having two cars kind of defeats the economy of having an electric car. I'm a single guy; don't need to ball-out with two vehicles, two insurance payments, and all the maintenance of an ICE vehicle still -- if I'm gong to also own a pure EV.
Nah....not as bad as you portray it...definately slower than gas but we do the trip to Florida from Ontario a couple times a year and have had no issues.
You do have to plan your trip better...no question but not the inconvenience that some people try to portray.

It's not the electric propulsion that's the problem for me. It's the unsafe doorhandles, and the unsafe touchscreen ergonomics that make EVs inferior and dangerous products. And apparently EVs never have a flat tire as they always leave out the spare to cut costs. It will take many years for EVs to become cost competitive without subsidies.
Millions can not afford any EV, there are much more pressing issues in the USA these days..
Also was told EV owners are required to pay a $500.00 road use tax yearly........

thank you Steven for the informative video. and an apology. for my long thoughts on this matter. I have nothing against electric Vehicles. in fact everything about it is awesome. so many annoying parts and concerns that come with the ICE engine will go away. such as Engine oil. where engine oil leaks accrue. with expensive repairs. and the same goes for the transmission. and the worst. most stupid of them all. and that is the Catalytic Converter. imagine when you get rid of all that annoying emission-expensive parts and future ownership expenses go away. that is awesome. but I'm personally not convinced that. the electric technology on cars is good for the environment. this claim. is a false claim. I like Technology. I don't like or believe the reason behind it. plus the transition from ICE to electric. is not being implemented correctly. we should move to hybrid slowly and then from Hybrid to fully electric. as of right now. with the few charging stations that existed. they don't give that confidence. your charging experience is NOT. going to be smooth. who knows if they are working or not? you probably going to experience a system glitch. who wants to add E mail address and Vehicle configuration. while about to charge my vehicle?!! who has the time to deal with that nonsense ?! we are supposed to have our stupid phones with a stupid app. in order for us to begin charging !! really ?! nowadays we are aware of that. this is one of the most annoying chapters in Ev. the range anxiety and charging time. instead of making it user-friendly fast, they made it user enemy nightmare slow! The bottom line. the only way to encourage consumers. first economic recovery. and building a reliable with a top cover from the elements charging station all around.
I hear you but from my research the OEMs are working hard to build these EVs as environmentally-friendly as posssible. Advancements are being made in mining the metals (BMW's motor uses very few to begin with), powering the factories with wind and solar, and recycling the batteries. Plus, many public chargers are powered by green. I agree - the charging experience NEEDS to improve and fast.
Personally i dont want a go fast EV. I actually nothing have good against any that least goes to 60 under 7 seconds. Dont get why they all gotta be fast.
It’s simply in its DNA due to the way the motors deliver torque…you certainly don’t have to drive it that way and there’s no disadvantage to having the potential…only decreased range of you use it in that manner.
look into chevy volt, nissan ariya, leaf, etc. not all EVs are fast. Ev6, ioniq are catered for those who wants a balanced range and performance. There are so many new evs to choose from.

Electric cars may have progressed but the electrical grid needs to progress first. Electric vehicles also need to progress further if they are going to be combustion engine replacements for rural America. I get almost 500miles of range with my Crosstrek and it’s takes less than 3mins to fill it up. When you have to drive 55 miles to a department store, or to work, or to a hospital, (often in the same day) the current ranges of todays electric cars don’t cut it. Here in Michigan we have already been warned of black outs occurring this summer due to air conditioner use. Imagine how things would look if the majority of people had EVs. A blackout would cause an economy to be shut down. There has been progress made yes, a viable solution for city life even, but not enough for it to be a replacement of the combustion engine for the rest of ritual America. We need to go farther and make sure we are getting the cart before the horse.
Welp... They're coming. So it might be a good idea to start on infrastructure now instead of continuing to let the country fall behind. However it appears that new battery tech is just over the horizon if not going into production (need to read up on Samsung) that will increase range and charge speed. There's also Porche's work on synthetic fuel that may come into play in the edge cases like what you describe where an EV doesn't fit. I imagine that when the battery tech comes around the EV will still start to take over ICE in those scenarios for the decreased drivetrain complexity and reduced maintenance and wear and tear concerns. Interesting time to be alive and see a major shift in transportation like the horse to the car.

I'm done with electric cars, I went back to gasoline because of all hassle associated with electric cars and trucks ! No more for me , I've learned my lesson and my " ELECTRIC CAR ANXIETY SYNDROME IS GONE " ... Happy days are here again !!

Enjoy your gas car. Gas prices will Hoover around $3.50-$4.00 fro a while. On a budget? Your better off with electric unless you live in an apartment with no way to charge. Electric cars are the future. Sorry.

I think it’s pretty condescending to categorize those of us who would rather drive something with an internal combustion engine as uninformed: read ignorant! If given a choice, I would choose internal combustion every time. When the current administration announces it wants to “accelerate the transition” from fossil fuels to electricity, that says to me they want to eliminate my choice and force me into an electric vehicle. Politicians are making it a political issue; the free market should dictate if we (the free market) want electric vehicles or not. This video smacks of the liberal elite garbage us “hillbillies” in the South despise.
Never said that. But what is ignorant is obstructing progress. Google the article about the idiot in North Carolina who wants to use taxpayer dollars to remove public charging stations. ICE cars will be around long after we're gone so you needn't worry about the government stealing your freedom to choose. Other than the negative environmental impacts of continuing to burn fossil fuels I really couldn't care less what you drive. It's pathetic, though not at all surprising, that people are turning EVs a political issue.

There was all this uproar in the early 1970s when pollution controls and unleaded gasoline took over. Only difference then is we did not have politicians ignorant to the topic wasting effort and resources to undermine things and pandering to people who think the devil has just arrived.
Personally I think the initial focus should have been widespread implementation of hybrids/plug in hybrid power trains. That way there is no range anxiety but still a significant reduction in pollution and much better mpg. It will take years for the infrastructure to catch up to make full electric viable for many. It would actually probably work for me personally 95% of the time but I'm usually a wait and see type and I still need consider the 5% of my needs.
Pollution controls work whether some don't like it or do not want to believe it. Some people make fun of California but their pollution has been cut by 78% since 1970 per the EPA.

Right so any criticism or genuine concerns over the meteoric rise of EV cars just makes me some stereotypical dumb hillbilly. For all the smug liberal Progressives who worship EV, how about coming off as a little less condescending and self important when talking about this technology. Have the integrity to bring up legit issues and not look at EV as our Lord and Savior to climate change. And I'm a big supporter of EV, my next car in a few years will most likely be an EV. But the monopoly of lithium production to mainly 4 countries (including authoritarian and genocidal China), the insane price hike of lithium, the unknown environmental explosion of used batteries in the coming decades, the chronically unreliable charging station Infrastructure, the environmental time bomb in greenhouse emissions with mining and the electric grid, these aren't trivial concerns. The pretentiousness of a lot of EV worshippers is just so off putting and ugly.

He said the governor who wants to slow electric charging stations is a hillbilly. It's OK to have concerns about a changing world, they did when we moved from horse and buggy to ice vehicles too. We adapt, just like thry did and we make the infrastructure to match. There will always be a subset of people who hates change though.

@@stevehammes I heard maybe in 2024.....a few years is a long time. They should offer MSRP discounts like everyone did before covid. It was normal to have 5-15% discounts off MSRP on pretty much all manufacturers. Now they are all being greedy
